The two of them stood atop a sand dune a thousand meters away. Cheng Cao was holding an AWP sniper rifle and he aimed at a dead tree trunk a kilometer away.
"There's a full-speed southeast wind, wind force level 3, wind velocity at 6.5 meters per second, minute of angle is 7."
Beside Cheng Cao, Chen Chen reminded him. "After firing, don't look to see if you've made your shot. Turn your back and hide behind the sand dune at once. Got it?"
"Alright."
Although he did not quite understand Chen Chen's intentions, Cheng Cao still nodded without any comment.
Chen Chen put on a pair of sunglasses and only his head popped up from behind the sand dune. He prepared to duck. "Okay, you may fire!"
Chen Chen's behavior alarmed Cheng Cao a little. He knelt on top of the sand dune and aimed steadily at the pedant a thousand meters away.
"Bang!"
After the gunshot, Cheng Cao did not even look. He immediately turned around and jumped off the sand dune. Copying Chen Chen, he got down and put his hands over his head.
Both of them stared at each other without blinking and waited for ten seconds.
Erm…
Nothing happened.
Cheng Cao gave a sheepish grin. Then he returned to the sand dune and made another shot.
"Bang!"
There was another gunshot.
To prevent himself from being blinded, Cheng Cao turned away and glanced at the target out of the corner of his eyes. Seeing that the shot did not land, he continued firing another round…
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
…
In this manner, Cheng Cao kept at it for five minutes. He had used up three magazines' worth of bullets. Just when he was feeling somewhat numb, a white light flashed before his eyes.
Instantly, Cheng Cao understood something. In pure instinct, he turned his head and leaped off the sand dune!
Behind the sand dune, Chen Chen also sensed a flash before his eyes. The sky suddenly became much brighter. Three seconds later, there was a deafening sound!
"Boom!"
Along with this deafening explosion, Chen Chen could feel a shockwave that was dying out. The gigantic impact flung the sand off the top of the dune!
That was a shockwave formed after a powerful explosive was triggered!
All at once, both of them were showered and nearly buried in yellow sand.
The shockwave came and went quickly. After a few seconds, Chen Chen raised his hand from the sand, took off his glasses, and shook his head vigorously. After that, he cleared out his ears while forcing a yawn.
The thunderous sound had caused both of them to experience tinnitus.
Not only that but when Chen Chen looked up to the sky, he also noticed that there was a neat circular pattern above them. Wisps of clouds were gathered into a large circle with an empty center. It was truly eye-catching.
This power…
Chen Chen felt quite disturbed. This item should not be used as an energy storage device, but as a bomb. He had hung this bomb around his neck for half a year.
After clambering over the sand dune, Chen Chen saw that the dead tree upon which the "Galaxy" had hung was gone. Not only had the tree disappeared, but even the ground had also vanished.
There was only a huge crater with a depth of dozens of meters and a radius of a hundred meters on the land.
"Is it just about a hundred meters?"
Upon seeing this, Chen Chen could not help but frown.
The width of the crater was only one-fifth of the expected range. In that case, a sniper bullet would only trigger the "Galaxy pendant" to release energy akin to 4 to 5 tons of TNT.
This was about one-fifth of the energy it contained.
The AWP used a 12.7×99mm rifle bullet. The known mass of the warhead was 46.01 grams, the initial velocity was 850m per second, and the final velocity was 0. The impact time of the warhead hitting the "Galaxy" was about 0.01 seconds. According to the momentum theorem, one should be able to work out that (N-mg)t = 0-(-mv), N = mg+mv/t.
In other words, when the bullet hit the "Galaxy pendant", the force acting on it was about 4000N. If one divided that by the contact area, one could easily calculate the pressure.
This was the force and pressure that triggered the power akin to four tons of TNT explosive within the galaxy pendant.
Hmm, what an empirical display.
Having thought of this, Chen Chen walked toward the crater and finally located the undamaged Galaxy pendant there.
Even if the energy was released, it remained unharmed. Although Chen Chen did not know how the aliens in the movie had activated the energy within, it was clear that impact excitation was also a method of activation.
Now that he had figured this out, Chen Chen knew what he had to do next.
He just had to find someone who could make an electrical device that could charge the Galaxy pendant so he could charge it 24 hours a day. If he ever had to go off and take the USB drive with him, he could replace the USB drive with the Galaxy pendant so that no electricity would be wasted.
As for releasing the energy that had been absorbed, it was very simple.
Chen Chen only had to use a car engine as a reference. First, he would install and affix the Galaxy pendant in the combustion chamber. After that, when the machine started, the piston would automatically hit the pendant.
Each force of impact would release some of the energy. This energy would push the piston back. At the same time, the connecting rod of the piston, due to inertia, would produce the force of the next impact…
Creating an endless loop.
The only difference between this kind of engine and the car engine was that fuel excitation was replaced by the way the piston would strike the pendant to excite energy. Thus, the need for fuel was eliminated.
By adjusting the force of the piston hitting the pendant, it was also possible to control the amount of energy released by the pendant.
Not only that but Chen Chen also thought of another use for the Galaxy pendant.
If only a small amount of energy was stored in the pendant and it was then installed upon a detonating device, would it not mean that only a tiny amount of explosive could be used to detonate all the energy within the pendant?
This was undoubtedly a super-powerful bomb. Just like before, with a force of only 4000N, it could attain ten times the power of a Tomahawk missile. It was truly a daily essential for killing people, whether one was at home or traveling.
Most crucially, this item weighed only 20 grams, so Chen Chen could extract many of them as backup...
With this in mind, Chen Chen swiftly returned to the research center and began to sketch the engine design.
Furthermore, to be able to activate as much energy as possible at one time, Chen Chen designed the engine with a multi-cylinder form. Each cylinder was two meters in diameter and the fuel chamber was replaced with an impact chamber. At the same time, Chen Chen eliminated the air intake and fuel injection ports, and even the spark plug was completely abandoned.
After finishing the design illustrations, Chen Chen called Qian Wenhuan, asking him to contact those in Germany and find out which engine manufacturer could produce the engine he had designed.
Chen Chen was not worried about this being leaked to others. He could just pretend that this was a handicraft, a hobby. After all, from their perspective, this kind of engine was simply something they had not seen before, something without any function.
They did not know about the existence of the Galaxy pendant, let alone imagine that there was a substance in this world that could release energy through impact. The key point was that this substance would not be damaged even as the energy was activated.

Dune told me sleep the whole day. I couldn't necessarily sleep but lied down on the bed anyway. I didn't want to return to his home but I couldn't say no to Dune. 
I hated my house, my family. I had all the right reasons to. I'm pretty sure they hated me as well. A lot had happened to for them to literally hate me but it was true. So I didn't really like the idea of playing family in another world. All of this kind of irked me and I wanted to stay as far away as possible. But I couldn't really say no either. And since I told them about my lies of memory loss, I couldn't ask much about this world either. 
 
"You up?" Dune called from outside the room
Sounds like it's finally time. I looked out the window. It was evening. I didn't even notice how time had flown. Obviously, I couldn't sleep. "Yeah."
"Time to move out. Grab your sword."
 
Training begun at night. It was more like me running around with an iron rod. I couldn't even properly lift the damn thing. It was heavier than the sword from the undead. Besides, my body was still heavy.
"Are you sure you killed five goblins?" His sarcastic tone bothered me, but still he tried his best to teach me.
Yes, I was sure that I killed five goblins. But I was also sure they almost killed me every single time too. "Trust me, I'm as surprised as you are… but aren't we supposed to protect the wall?" If my memory served correct this wall was the only thing keeping all those monsters out.
It was well past evening, but no undead had come near the wall; yet.
"As long as the fire's burning, there's no need to worry." Dune reassured me with a pose. I didn't know if he was trying to be funny or not but that pose almost made me chuckle.
"I've been meaning to ask, how come they're afraid of fire?"
"You see all living things fear fire. Even after death they think it might harm them. In reality it does, so maybe that's why?" Dune explained but he didn't seem convinced either.
So you don't know either? Hey, wait! People are afraid of a lot more things than just fire.  I wanted to say that to his face too. "But-"
"No more buts now focus!" He swung his sword at me, I tried to block. It didn't work. I fell on my back. 
Strength really was his strong suit. He didn't give me a break. But I still knew nothing about this world. And was this guy seriously just using basics to beat me like this? Granted, I didn't know how to use a sword, but this guy still seemed like an experienced fighter to me.
He sighed. "Get up." For some reason he was utterly devastated. Regrettably, I could guess that reason.
Somebody started shouting. "Dune the other side!"
I got up. The fire was about to go out in the other side. We took a torch and ran for it, barely making it at the last moment. There were basically just five of us, including me.
Every time the fire weakened a little, undead come pouring. And with just the five of us, it was hard to maintain this almost a kilometer long wall. 
The whole training combined with the relentless pursuit of the undead, was brutal. I already felt faint.
"Tired already," Dune smirked. It was a little past midnight. 
I could fall asleep at a moment's notice. "That ain't funny!" I breathed heavily and panted.
"But that just shows what happens everyday. But honestly these last few days were the worst. So I'm glad you're here." He was sarcastic all night and suddenly thanked me now. It felt weird. 
But why? Why was the undead moving like this? Dune told me that it wasn't like this even a few months ago.
I still didn't know how to kill those things apart from using sunlight though. Were the undead even killable? Fire was effective in scaring them but was it enough to kill them? "Oh and we chased them away but how do we kill-"
Dune cut me off. Was he expecting this? "We don't. Only a priest can purify them or someone who has holy powers. We can cleave them with proper swords but they'd still move around. Although they won't be harmful that way. Or just burn them. That seems most effective, honestly. And I prefer that too; they'll probably be back in a few days though. You won't believe how well they burn!" His eyes showcased his passion for burning. There were these types of people in my world as well. These people just loved to burn stuff.
"Sometimes I wonder who the bad guy is." My voice was barely a whisper.
"Did you say something?" And he had the ears of a bear.
"Nope!"
It went on like that for the whole night. I couldn't even move my arms after it was over. Dune's training was as brutal as a bite from the damn goblins. But when morning light peeked through the eastern horizon, I felt at ease. My heart fluttered and I knew it was over- at least for tonight. Wait, I have to do this again? My heart sank a great deal when I actually thought about it.
 
I was spent. So I slept till noon. Who cared about breakfast anyway? Not me.
"Oi!"
"Hey!"
"YOU!"
I woke up. Something or one was screaming in my ears. It was a high pitched voice. My ears rang.
"Argh…" I groaned. Just what was wrong? Did they have to scream so much? Didn't they know I was spent?
I looked around, still half asleep. It was the little brat again. "What?"
"Lunch is ready, they want you down."
They want me down? You almost sound like a mass murderer. I was disappointed. I wanted to sleep some more. It felt like one those days when I accidently got too excited over a book or movie that I spent the whole night on that. Actually it probably was. 
I didn't seem too convinced so, the brat explained things to me. It was lunch time some time ago but they were waiting for me to get up this whole time.
"Huh?" My brain jumped started. It was already past noon and they waited for? 
I gasped, grabbed my head and sat down. My head hurt. The little brat led me to the place with water.
I washed my face outside the home and went to the designated place: the fated dinner table. Dune was as bright as I last saw him. How tough was the guy? But the geezer was there too. And as usual, he greeted me with his solid glare.
I ate lunch. I couldn't talk much. And they didn't say much either. Maybe they were mad that they had to just sit there for all this time?
"You look sick…" Milai said.
And I totally was. "Back where I'm from, that's a compliment." I tried to act funny. But I most certainly wasn't.
They all laughed. Maybe they were too kind.
 
I could barely keep my eyes open. Once finished, I thanked them, went upstairs and slept for another two good hours. I woke up in the afternoon and went outside the house. Sheila followed me. How the hell did she knew I was going out?
"What?" I asked. I didn't like kids.
"Let's go fishing."
I never liked fishing either. Patience was never my strong suit. Why would I even want to sit down for hours with little hope of actually catching something good? "Huh? Why?" Two of my hated things, combined? I didn't want any part of it, that much I was certain.
"You're eating our food. The least you could do is make up for it, right?" The brat gave me a solid grin. She had me just where she wanted.
Aren't I doing enough already? I couldn't talk back to that though. Even I knew that she was right. The way she talked indicated that she might have been older than she looked. "Wait, how old are you?"
"Thirteen."
You don't say… Of course I didn't believe her. "You don't look a day over ten." I wasn't convinced. She was too much of a brat.
"I'm THIRTEEN!" She was pretty persistent though. She kept yelling and shouting until I gave up.
I sighed in resignation. I had got myself into troublesome shit once again. "Yeah, sure, sure. Lead the way." I didn't want anything to do with it, but now I had to.
She ran back home without another word.
I was all alone in the road: I was left here thunderstruck. What just happened?

Steve's House
In a one-story house in the living room, sat a young man with a beanie that covered his long black hair and was wearing black glasses with red lenses wearing dark blue jeans and a black T-shirt with an eye on it.
He was sitting there eating Stayne Chips while watching TV. This, of course, was Edwin's good friend Steve. He was watching a monster movie called MEGA LIZARD X RETURN OF THE INSECT'S KINGS. He was happily watching until a ringing in his front pocket interrupted him. It was his cell phone he checked who was calling it Fred.
" Hello?" Steve answered
" STEVE! You've got to turn on the news NOW!!!" Fred panicked told Steve
" Why what happened?" Steve asked confused
" Just change the damn channel!" Fred said pressuring
" But I'm in the middle of a monster movie marathon..." Steve said complaining
" Listen here you motherf*cker either you change the channel or I b*tch slap you the next time I see you" Fred politely said in a low voice.
"..." Steve
"I'll be changing the channel now," Steve said changing the channel
As soon as Steve changed it what he saw left his jaw dropped, it was the casino Edwin was gonna go to. Surrounded by police officers and the reporter was describing a shootout that happened and many of the officers were waiting on standby.
Steve understood that the situation was dire, what if his best buddy was killed. He had to go there and check if he was alright.
" Is that the place Edwin went to?" Fred asked
" yeah that's the place" Steve solemnly said
" Sh*t what do we do!" Fred said
Steve thought for a second on what to do to save Edwin, he needed to go there but he couldn't save him on his own.
" F*ck it, we'll wing it we have to save Edwin we can't abandon our buddy," Steve told Fred
" Fine I'm coming too just pick me up and we'll go get Chris on the way he'll definitely be onboard."
" Alright See ya later," Steve said hanging up
" DAD! I'm borrowing the pickup truck!" Steve yelled across the room
" Fine! Just don't scratch it!" Steve's Dad yelled back.
Steve then went and grabbed his Dad's car keys and ran to the garage and got in the car, slammed the car door and put the key in and drove out of the garage.
"Hold on buddy were on our way," Steve thought as he drove off two the darkness of the street's
The Dune Casino
In the monitoring room stood a man in a white tux he was there on the spot petrified his expression was one of extreme fear.
Danny had planned to record the murder of the kid to please Little Demon because Little Demon was a paranoid freak. If any person was to know about her existence then she would silence them.
If she wanted you to know who she was she'd tell you if she didn't want you to know she'd kill you plain and simple. Though what Danny didn't expect was that Edwin didn't just slaughter all his like gutting a fish.
He annihilated them as if nothing and even looked like he brought some of the men back to life and killed the men that were still breathing in a horrible fashion.
Also, that weird giant hand that came out of the hand doing some kind of creepy ceremony on the undead thugs that looked similar fist bumping. Though the most terrifying of them all was a belt that strangled people to death!
He was lucky to be in the safety monitoring room or else he would have ended up the same!
He thought of escaping the place he'd rather answer to Little Demon than Edwin. Just as he was going to leave for his life something appeared on the screen that caught his interest.
"Huh?"
On the screen showed Edwin passed out on the ground in a pool of blood.
"Is he dead?" Danny thought, if Edwin was dead then he could deliver his body to his boss. She told him if anything supernatural would happen to bring it to her. However, it would be rewarded handsomely by the boss.
"This is my time to shine, I'll just make sure he's dead. I'll wait a couple hours just to make sure I don't plan on dying early," Danny thought in excitement at his new opportunity. He sat back down on the chair and waited with eager eyes.

Kelpie lay, swaddled in the arms of her father Captain Dune. AS she lay there, Dune watched the enchanted water spirit scrawl along the length of the new borne infant. In this world, children earned their power through rigorous training. There were many types of magic users in the world of Altai, with the exception of commoners and slaves, and very few nobility. The strongest magic users were Core Deviators. This type of cultivator separated their soul from their physical body, hiding it somewhere no one could find. They then made their core, which was formed through taking the souls of others and processing them to create their own energy. These magicians were dark and powerful beyond control. Feared and often isolated, very few existed, however those that did were older than most of the land that rose above the sea. This was partially due to the fact you couldn't kill them, nor did they age with time because of the absence of their soul. Core Formers were also like Core Deviators except they didn't take their souls out of their bodies. Their lifespans were also extended but they could die. The third most powerful were Beast Shifters. They were often grouped into species, and ran around in what you could call packs. This is what Dune and his wife Syresa were, dragon shifters were one of the most powerful classes in the shifter class. Almost none rivalled them in both land and sky. However each Beast shifter earned their beast, working hard to tame it, meld their souls into their physical body and partially meld it into their souls. It was an arduous and painful process, that most could not live through. Dune himself being a weathered sea captain had never seen a kelpie shifter in person. There were rumors that those who had shifted into kelpie form had ventured too deep into the ocean never to be seen again. The fact that their daughter had been borne with a kelpie shapeshifting form already melded into her, had raised a plethora of questions and worries of the husband and wife for their daughter. Dune hid his confusion, smiling and bellowed out to his clan "This Child is our Heir!!! Hear her name! Kelpie!" The ships which had started to become less boisterous renewed their bellowing and laughter at the announcement of the heir's name.  Each Captain greeted their King Captain Dune and rejoiced at the sight of the healthy little girl in the arms of their Queen. Each captain of the fleet introduced themselves as ritual to the small Heiress. Captain Dunes right hand man bowed down before the King and Queen. "May the sea and sky bless this small child. May she have light always in her dark nights and shade for shelter under the scorching sun. My gift to the heiress is my fealty, and this small locket." The man said in reverence. "Lester, rise please my old friend! You have served loyally under my grandfather, my father and myself. Do you not wish for peace? To rest yourself?" Lester looked up at Captain Dune "My King," he said in a tone neither loud nor quiet "I dream to see this tribe rise. To become all that it could be. I wish to see your children and your children's children succeed the throne." Lester raised his head and stared into Dune's eyes. The old man's face was dark with sun, his beard black with silver streaks running through it, his black dread locks were streaked with silver as well, and the crinkles around his eyes shown that he had a habit of smiling. he was a large man, even bowing down his presence dominated those around him. The trinket that Dune held in his hand was made of dark iron that came from the heart of a star. It was shaped as a pentagram with amethyst at its center. The chain the charm was on was also formed of dark iron. It was beautifully crafted and projected a devilish charm. Like looking into an abyss and wondering what was at the bottom. As Lester stood, Dune came forward with Kelpie. "My old friend,' Dune started "My daughter needs a guardian. Someone who would follow her anywhere. As a king and queen we will not be with her most of her life. We are the protecting power for our forces. We are the swiftest and strongest of our clan. Would you be willing to take this honor?" Although Dunes voice was low, the echoes of this question bound around the ship. Lester looked at his friend and king with much pride and emotion in his grey eyes "My liege, Nothing would make this old man happier." Dune and Syresa beamed with joy. "I shall speak with you more after the ceremonial welcoming about this matter." Dune said in a hushed tone. The next captain, the left hand man of Captain Dune came forward. "My gift to the princess shall be both my service and my sons hand in marriage if you shall allow." Captain Sean said in a pleasantly deep voice. Captain Dune gave Sean with a withering glance and looked almost angry. Dune forced a smile on his face, although it looked much to sharp and dangerous to be a smile. "My dear left lieutenant, there is no need to betroth our children so early is there? After all, freedom in marriage is something we should afford our children." Dune almost growled out. Lieutenant Sean looked up at Dune with a chagrinned face " Captain Dune, I meant no disrespect toward you or your heiress, I was simply trying to fortify our connections within our tribe through marriage. I have not but my service and that of my families to give the young Heir." Captain Dune looked down at Lieutenant Sean with distain lurking in his eyes. He had long known that this Lieutenant had been a schemer. If not for the internal strife and Lieutenant Sean's usefulness in suppressing the rogues of the tribe, Dune would have long dismissed him from his position as a left hand Lieutenant. With great mockery in his voice Captain Dune declared "I understand my dear friend. I indeed know how it is to have naught but your name and your services to give. However I will not do away with my daughters freedoms. Instead, I will take your sons services  to my daughter as a companion. He shall stay with my child and grow with her until the day she has found a husband." Dune's harsh smile turned wicked at the end of his speech. He had finally found a way to have more control of his left hand man. Dune had long worried that his left hand man had been scheming and plotting behind his back to overthrow his rein. He knew he had needed a way to ensure his and his families safety against such a man. This would do that by creating a loyalty between their children that Dune and Sean lacked. Sean Smiled up at Dune, feeling manipulated by his leader. His frustration shone in his eyes briefly, but quickly disappeared. "Very well Sire." Sean stated "Come forward Malaki." A small child, naught but 4 years old stepped out, Like his father Malaki had black hair, with yellow catlike eyes that glowed with intelligence and fierceness. He was tall for a 4 year old, and his frame showed signs of hard sea fairing work already, with olive colored skin, and a skinny frame. "Father, what is your bidding?" Malaki's small voice had a seriousness that most lacked at his age. His tone was steely, though with his childlike voice it was hard for Dune to hold his straight face. Syresa herself coughed quietly trying to hide her laugh. "Malaki, you shall be the heiress's companion from now on. I expect you will take this charge seriously my child?" Sean said gravely. Malaki only nodded in return, and quietly stepped forward to kneel before the king. "I shall do my utmost to serve the Heiress my lord." Malaki declared in his all to serious voice.  Dune nodded in acceptance. "That will do, come stand next to us Malaki." Dune smiled as the child as he made his way up the stairs. As Malaki stood next to Syresa, he peaked over at the child with curiosity gleaming in his eyes. Syresa  smiled at the child "Would you like to hold her?" Syresa asked. "Could I?" Malaki looked up into the Queen's emerald eyes. "Of course, mind her head though." Syresa said gently as she held out the child. Malaki mirrored the way Syresa held the child. His arms wrapping gently around Kelpies delicate frame. His eyes lit up as he held the child. Kelpie cooed at him smiling her toothless smile. The two children contently played under the watchful eye of the queen while the next 98 captains came to give gifts and blessings for their new Heiress. As the ceremony was ending huge fireworks exploded into the night sky as the banquet began. In the captains quarters into the wee hours of the night, Lester sat with Captain Dune speaking. "Captain what do you wish to speak privately of?" Lester asked. "Lester, we must hide Kelpies secret." "Oh, and what secret might that be?" Lester questioned. "Kelpie was borne but hours ago, yet she bears a Kelpie form already. The Kelpies have never been seen before, but the rumors are that they are a vicious and harsh race of beast. They are solitary, and live in the darkest part of the sea they can find. Far to many a brave man have been lured to their depths while trying to tame such a beast." Lester nodded his head, pondering how Kelpie could have bore a Beast form when she had just been born. " My lord, I have never heard of such a thing before. But we could seek the assistance of the Blood Shamans." Lester said. Dune nodded his head. "That's a good idea. But we can't alert others that something is wrong. We need to present as a strong front. People within the tribe have been stirring up trouble, and Sean's power has grown stronger of late. I fear they will soon try to mutiny." Dune said in a hushed tone. Lester's eyes widened at Dunes statement. "It's just a hunch right now, Lester. But my gut has yet to lead me astray." Lester looked at Dune " My lord, perhaps you could dispatch me under the eye of the other captains on a mission of secrecy? I as the legal guardian, am bound with the heiress. It would not be too shocking to have the child and her companion accompany me on the mission in a few months time." Dune nodded his head at Lester's suggestion. "That could work Lester." Syresa Opened the door quietly as Dune finished his statement. "The children are sleeping." Syresa whispered to Dune as she crossed the room. Dune and Lester quickly filled Syresa in on their discussion as she sat down. Syresa and the two men hashed out the details, throwing together a plan of action in less than thirty minutes. "Then it's finalized. We shall have Lester bring Kelpie to the Blood Shamans in two years from now." Syresa said with a finality in her tone. Both men nodded in agreement and went too rejoin the banquet.

Land is a scarce commodity, while the seas be both vast and deep. Holding depths unknown, and creatures untold. The world is in chaos, though the lands be claimed and the seas populated. War wages constantly, the world being drained of her strength. Monsters long lurking, begin to surface, muddying the waters with blood. Follow Kelpie on her journey in life. "R-rated romance movies aren't for everyone. How about a change of subject, since you look a little uncomfortable: What's your favorite book series?"
"I am currently reading Ian Fleming's 'Casino Royale'. The first installment of the James Bond series. Pretty much anything action, adventure, or mystery. Some of my all-time favorite series include Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson, J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter, and Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider. I also enjoy 'Lord of the Rings', 'The Chronicles of Narnia', Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and may others. What about you?"
"I've always enjoyed the classic dystopian sci-fi novels, such as '1984', 'Animal Farm', 'I, Robot', 'Dune', and 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. My mom also insisted that I read Jane Austen, Nicholas Sparks, and other romance authors. That's how I got into E. L. James and J. Kenner."
"So, you're a nerd and a romantic." I catch myself giggling a bit. {Gosh, what is this man doing to me. I've become a blushing schoolgirl.}
"Fine, go ahead. Make fun of me. But in my defense Orwell and Asimov are good writers. And you can't tell me that 'Pride and Prejudice' isn't a good book. It has history and finesse. What more could you want?"
"Okay, okay! I didn't mean to offend you, I'm just surprised is all."
"What, that I read romance novels?"
"No. That you read actual books."
"Harsh. But understandable. Most actors and celebrities don't portray themselves in a way that suggests any of us have the time or willingness to sit and read anything other than tabloid articles about ourselves."
We continue to talk about books for a while. Both pizzas were amazing. All good things must come to an end though. Austin takes me home and kisses me goodnight. It's an unexpected, but soft and gentle kiss. {Wow. I guess a second date isn't out of the question then.}
"Goodnight, Alexandra."
"Goodnight." {Something about the way he says my name in that dark accent of his drives me wild. I just hope that he doesn't notice.}
I take a shower I notice a new text from Austin. [Hey, I had a good time tonight. Would you like to go on a second date? I was thinking we could go to the movies sometime during the next week.] {Maybe it's best I leave that for tomorrow morning. That way I'm not making a hasty decision, right?}
 
When I woke up, I responded to Austin's text: [I have a commission due at the end of the week, but I think I can spare enough time for a date.]
[Good. Let's say Friday at 6?]
[Sounds like a plan.]
[It's a date then. 😉]
I call my mom, as I do almost every Sunday. She is excited that I've actually gone out on a date for once. Everything is going well at home, and we are all set for dinner tonight. She tells me to invite Zach, and I agree that it would be good for him after dinner with his mother.
I decide to go talk to him in person and drive over to his apartment.
"Hey. I wasn't expecting you today. Is everything alright?"
"Yeah. My mom invited you to dinner tonight. I told her about dinner with your mother the other day."
"Okay." He laughs a bit, and I can't help but smile. "I'll go to dinner with you and your family."
"I will text her to let her know."
"Uh… just out of curiosity, how was your date with Austin last night?"
"It was great! Have you heard of Pizza Pi? Their mac'n'cheese pizza is surprisingly amazing."
"Pi as in 3.14?"
"Yep. Kinda funny if you think about it."
"I think Sam said something about that place at some point. Maybe it had something to do with one of her dates. I can never keep them all straight. Anyway, how did it go? Do you have a second date lined up?"
"Actually, yes. Friday at 6. I believe we are headed to a movie theater."
"That sounds like fun. I'm glad you had a good time. Speaking of time, we should probably get going before your parents start to worry about your whereabouts."

Dune tried to fly away.

Her raven wings pumped, trying to help her gain speed.

Another magically poisoned arrow flew past her, getting ever closer to her wing. 
She had to get out of here, and she had to be quick. 

"Gather as many professors as you can find. We have to bring it down." Dune heard a professor yell.

She squawked in fear and dove down towards the tree line, tucking her wings in. 

Just was she about to make it, something struck her wing, burying itself deep between the feathers.

Shrieking, Dune flared her wings and lost balance, just managing to stay up in the air. 

Her raven yelled too, for it felt the pain.

The poison would make quick work of them both. Dune had to get out of this.

But how?

The professors saw her start to go down. They would see where she would land. They would come for her. The would kill her.

Dune couldn't let that happen.

But how could she stop it?

Her wings started to freeze up, and Dune knew the poison was working.

"There!"

Dune couldn't think anymore, for her wing stopped working and she began to fall.

The professors were already standing at the spot where she would fall.

Dune plummeted to the ground in a flash of purple and black feathers, but the wind rushed up and snatched the arrow away.

It dove into her bloodstream and threw out the poison. It had taken long enough.

Dune clacked her beak and launched into the air, trying to gain altitude and fly off. 

Before she could make it very far, a magically strengthened net was thrown onto her, the wind unable to stop it.

Dune shrieked, her delicate feathers catching in the net as she crashed to the ground again.

No! She would not be overpowered!

She flared her wings wide for everyone to see, using the wind to blow off the net.

The professors gathered in a circle around her, chanting something and crouched on the ground.

A complex circle appeared, one with intricate markings around the edges and curling inward until it reached the large Phoenix crest in the center, the emblem of all of their kind. 

Bright light flashed, forming a new net made of magic the wind simply passed through.

Dune could not give up.

Her raven could, though.

It knew when a fight was over.

With a sigh, it gave out and released itself, Dune's bloodlines switching back quickly and in a flash of pure pain.

She lay on the ground, bleeding from a wound in her arm. 

"Oh my stars, is that a student?" One of the professors helped.

Dune weakly looked up. The professors were watching her with a mix of fear, surprise, disgust, and confusion. 

"I think that's Kinley and Callan's girl!" Another professor said.

"Are we gonna help her...or?" Someone finally asked. 

In response, the professors rushed forward, weaving magic to heal her wound. When that was finished, Dune saw a Liki-blessed switch bloodlines to a large black bear, shaking out its thick fur.

"Here, put her on Glyca's back." 

Dune was lifted and laid on the bear's back.

"We'll see you back at the Academy. Bring her to the avian observatory. There shouldn't be any classes there right now." 

Dune felt Glyca nod her great head before the world turned to something much different.

Glyca walked along a path of pure dirt, a few trees dotting it. Lining the path was the greenest grass Dune had ever seen. 

She racked her brain for any knowledge about this place, but found nothing. Where was she?

In a flash, the mysterious world disappeared and they were in the Academy, safely inside the avian observatory.

The observatory was, basically, a large glass dome resembling the planetarium on the other side of the campus. The observatory was wider though, with the domed roof slightly lower. 

Under the huge glass ceiling, on one side, there were a few tables and a whiteboard against the wall, along with a large table separating the students from the teacher. 

A promethean board was mounted above the whiteboard, and there were a few more classroom things. 

Dune was put in one of the chairs at a table, and Glyca switched back to a professor and sat across from her.

"Are you okay, honey?" 

Dune nodded.

"How did you manage to do that?"

"I was flying. It's Release Day. Someone crashed into me and I fell. I was dying."

Dune debated whether to tell them about the voice. She decided that could be her own secret.

"I didn't want to die. My raven appeared. Then the boy who crashed into me." Dune continued with a shrug.

"Did you hurt him?" Glyca asked, but it was without anger. 

"No. I flew away."

"Really? I would think your raven would be drowning the bloodlust over that. They're very protective of their people."

"It did want to hurt him, but I didn't want to, so I made the raven calm down. Then I flew away, and now I'm here." Dune finished lamely. Her story seemed rather flimsy. 

Glyca bit her lip, just as the door opened and the professors walked in.

As they walked inside, Dune saw they dragged Sundevil behind her.

Sundevil. 

The mere thought stirred her raven again, but Dune pushed it back down. She couldn't afford to lose her temper now. 

The professor was dragging her by her arm, and then unceremoniously threw Sundevil forward.

Sundevil bared her teeth before turning bright yellow eyes swirling with flecks of blue onto Dune. 

Her stare made Dune squirm and want to disappear into the floor. 

"Sundevil, you better have a wonderful explanation for this." A professor snarled.

Sundevil looked innocently at them. "Why do you assume this is my fault?"

She adjusted her sky blue wings, which seemed to shimmer every different shade of blue as they moved, and moved her tail idly on the floor. It was deep blue and black.

If blue and black was her color, why was she called Sundevil?

"Because all of this is always because of you!" A professor hissed. 

"Is it?" Sundevil asked, striding over to the professor.

Dune was reminded of a predator stalking prey as Sundevil moved towards the professor. 

"Or is it yours for spreading these rumors about me?" She asked sweetly.

The professor gulped.

"Enough of these games, Sundevil!" Another professor yelled.

Sundevil turned to the other professor with a cold smile. 

"Is it really I who plays the games?"

With that, her pupils suddenly sharpened and the wind picked up, blowing in everyone's face and obscuring their vision.

When they could see again, there was a large blue and black dragon standing there, matte scales shining oddly. 

As quick as it appeared, it took off in the air and crashed through the glass dome, glass flying everywhere as if flew off.

Enter Sundevil, a young wily Phoenix like Dune, with magic far stronger than it ought to be and a past far more dangerous than is safe. Sundevil stays in the back, careful not to draw attention to herself, unknowingly drawing all of Dune’s attention. As they continue to train and become stronger, Dune can’t seem to shake the feeling something is seriously wrong about Sundevil, besides the fact she’s as radiant as the sun. As she attempts to unravel the mystery, will she unravel feelings as well?

Last time: Firuz had been sealed Galvi (Ash like Ruh!) and during the fight between Galvi and Azad, he disappeared. (This picks up from where the two giants were fighting each other.)

Firuz groaned in pain as his skin peeled off his body. He couldn't move; not even a finger. It felt as if his whole body had been turned to stone. He could still feel countless insects crawling under his skin. They were everywhere, slowly forming a prison a, taking away his freedom; and the sound, that horrible sound as countless little grey worms crawled underneath his skin. He cried in horror, tears trickled down his sides; he couldn't even feel them as they ran down his blotchy skin. It was all blurry. He blinked and a purple giant appeared in front of him. 'Azad -- Why does he look like that?' The great violent sword came hurtling towards him. 'No!' Firuz struggled in his prison, but the Galvi wouldn't let him move.

The sword grew as it fell towards him. Slowly, everything else melted away under its razor-sharp edge. Firuz tried to move, tried to tilt his body, but it didn't listen. He found it hard to breath as everything drowned under the rapid fluttering of his heart. His eyes turned to saucers as the purple edge reflected in his black eyes.

'No -- I don't want to die -- do.." He closed his eyes as he accepted his fate. WHAM! It hit him right in the chest. His body shattered like glass, reduced to dust by the sharp violet wind blades.

"Am I dead?" Firuz felt a lightness in him, something he hadn't felt in a long time.. He opened his eyes and found himself surrounded by darkness and a smell unlike anything he had ever smelt. It reminded him of his mother's embrace, reminded him of love and happiness. Even though he couldn't see, he could feel with his body -- and the world that opened up to him was strange and unique.

He found himself standing in a cave, dry and spacious, its walls riddled with countless tunnels, leading off to the great unknown. Firuz looked up to the ceiling of the cave and somehow, darkness gave way, letting him see numerous holes poking through it,very much like the tunnels around him.

"Where am I?" Firuz asked as he looked around, suddenly his eyes fell on a small golden dune, glowing with a deep amber hue. He felt a strange familiarity with it. He moved closer to it, he could feel a deep rumbling sound coming from it. He could see something on the surface of the golden dune. "What is it?" He inched closer, and slowly the blurry image became clearer and clearer. He could see a little grey worm on the surface of the golden dune.

"Galvi!" Firuz ran back in horror, hiding into one of the tunnels. "What is it doing here?" He sneaked a peek at the golden dune, but before he could see anything, fear gripped his heart as he whipped his head back in. Even though he was afraid of the galvi, he found himself reluctant to leave the glowing dune. He could feel a strange call from the golden dune and found it impossible to leave even though a galvi was standing next to the dune.

"I... I will stay here, he would have to leave sometime. That's right. I will wait for him to leave." Firuz lean against the tunnel wall, biding his time waiting for the little worm to leave.

After a while, Firuz found himself overwhelmed with exhaustion, within moments it became physically impossible for him to keep his eyes open and despite his best efforts, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

He had the strangest of dreams. He stood in a pool of darkness that rippled out to eternity. "Argh!" Firuz doubled over as he felt a searing pain in his abdomen. Suddenly a small tumor formed in his belly button, it grew and grew, slowly gaining mass. Firuz cried out in horror as he fiercely scratched at the tumor, trying to pull it out. But whenever his fingers touched the tumor, he lost control over his body.

Slowly, the tumor grew in size, and after 3 dreadful hours, another Firuz popped out of the giant tumor. Firuz backed away in horror as he watched the new Firuz flop around on the ground.

Firuz stared at his belly button in horror as he noticed a faint grey line running out of his belly button and disappearing into the belly button of the new Firuz. As he touched the grey line, his vision split. He could hear and see through the eyes of new Firuz.

"How can this be?" Firuz exclaimed.

"How can this be?" The clone repeated.

"Don't copy me" Firuz complained.

"Don't copy me"

"Stop it!"

"Stop it!"

Firuz stared at his clone in frustration, seeing him copying everything he did made him angry. Which in turn made the clone angry. "It's so confusing." Firuz walked over to his clone, while his clone walked away from him.

"What are you doing? Come here" Firuz screamed in frustration.

The clone repeated his words but kept on walking. Firuz broke into a run and chased his own clone in the darkness. "Why do you run -- He does whatever I do." He slapped his forehead and heard a similar slap in the distant. Firuz sat with his legs crossed and focused on his connection to his clone. Even with his eyes close, he could still see and hear. He willed his clone to move and to his surprise, it moved. Firuz took a sharp breath as a smile crept onto his pallid face.

"It works!" Firuz at once closed his eyes and controlled his second body. He could see his original body, sitting cross-legged. As he opened the eyes of his original body, his heart skipped a beat; color drained from his face and he let out a shrill scream "Ahhh!"

All their life they have waited for their heroes, waiting to be liberated from their shackles. They survived on the hope of new dawn until that very hope twisted them, made them somewhat less than humans. Their words became their curse, chaining them to their masters for 8000 years. They are called Nameless.

This is the story of hope, of treachery and of sacrifice.

Wang Mengmeng watched what was happening with eyes widened. It felt like riding a roller coaster, but this experience was more horrifying than any roller coaster.
She was lying on the back of Han Sen, and had the same angle of view as him. She watched all his movements, dodging, turning, wielding, charging.
Seeing the endless horned sand foxes sweeping toward them and then the deaths of all of them, she felt that Han Sen was like a killing machine, his movements extremely swift and each attack harvesting a life.
Both mutant horned sand foxes and primitive ones were killed with one blow each, without exception.
Wang Mengmeng and Han Sen were soaked in blood, and the original color of their armor could no longer be discerned. Even the long blonde hair of fairy queen turned red and was dripping blood.
Wang Mengmeng suddenly had a strange feeling. Everything seemed surreal to her, as if she was watching a movie about a gorgeous killing spree.
Han Sen was like a tireless killing machine. All her fear went away when she knew he could kill all of the foxes if he had to.
What Han Sen saw now was different from what average humans saw. All the movements of the horned sand foxes had become so slow that he could see every single move of them. In his eyes, even the mutant ones were as slow as a grandpa, inviting one's help.
Han Sen finally understood the best feature of fairy queen. When he shapeshifted into fairy queen, his great ability to predict was enhanced. Now he could hit anywhere he wanted.
"Too slow." Han Sen was even dissatisfied with the speed of the horned sand foxes, because they could not keep up with the speed of the slaughter.
"I hope there will be more of them," Han Sen even thought.
But Han Sen's reason was telling him that they should run as fast as they could, because shapeshifting could not last forever. Once his body could no longer bear it, he would have to turn into himself and even if he used wings then and saved Wang, Su Xiaoqiao and the rest would die.
"Must get out before shapeshifting time limit is up," Han Sen thought to himself, wielding the lancets even faster.
The rest of the team were stunned. They had never seen Han Sen fighting in a melee. They had always believed he was a good archer and did not like to place himself under any danger.
But when they saw Han Sen put down his bow and arrow, they came to know how fearsome he could be in a melee.
Mutant horned sand fox was also killed in just one blow. They had never seen Han Sen miss so far.
"Formidable!" Even they could not help but shudder. Such efficiency in killing was simply a spree, so terrifying and satisfying to watch that it made one want to moan.
The sacred-blood horned sand fox howled again and the mutant foxes retreated, while primitive foxes rushed to them faster.
Just in a moment, Han Sen knew what the sacred-blood fox king wanted. It was trying to use the primitive horned sand foxes to consume his shapeshifting time as it was aware shapeshifting did not last long. It wanted to launch strikes at them when his shapeshifting time was up.
"Cunning beast," cursed Gambler. His jambiyas slit another primitive horned sand fox's throat, making it fall to the ground, twitching in pain.
Han Sen looked at the sacred-blood fox king and his eyes darkened. The lancets disappeared in his sleeves and a black horn bow appeared in his hands.
The black stinger arrow was nocked and pointed at the fox king on top of the dune.
"It's too far away. Can the arrow reach there?" Su Xiaoqiao checked the distance between them and the fox king. It was indeed too far. It looked so small from here, so it should be about 1.5 miles away.
With such a distance, even if Han Sen's arrow could get there, it would be languid by then. And how can that kill a sacred-blood creature?
The fox king seemed to share Su's thought, standing there still and gazing at Han Sen with a trace of mockery.
"Damn, that sacred-blood fox king is kind of evil," Gambler cried when he saw the look of the fox king.
Han Sen's hands were steady. The arrow suddenly turned into a black shadow flying across the sky toward the insolent fox king.
The sacred-blood fox king was too intelligent to believe the arrow could actually hurt it, and did not mean to dodge.
If his arrow had that kind of power, then he should have used it before the fox king led Wang Mengmeng into the ambush.
Whoosh!
But soon the fox king panicked as it discovered that the speed of the arrow got even higher when approaching itself.
When the fox king eventually lost its grace and wanted to run, it was a bit late. Although it leaped as high as it could, trying to dodge the arrow, the arrow still dug into the muscles of its foreleg like a snake.
Blood splashed and its scream rang.
The arrogant and sly fox king was knocked out by the arrow and tumbled down the dune.
Hearing the scream of their king, the skulk of foxes paused their attack and looked to the dune where the king was standing.
Of course, they did not see it because it had fallen. The skulk was suddenly in a chaos and did not know what to do.
"Hurry," commanded Han Sen and dashed.
