"My mother loved to play it. she taught me." Mo Jiang stopped at the page which he was looking for and replied.
Liu Juan just nodded and her eyes were still lingering on the keys in fascination.
Then she suddenly heard him "Want to play?"
"Huh?" Liu Juan jolted look up at him.
But then without waiting for her reply, he held her arms and pulled her to sit close with him. His arm was encircled through her wrist to have her hand with his.
"This is the easy note. Come let's play it." Mo Jiang guided her fingers to play the music.
Liu Juan never be closed to any man as her past always disgusted her when she came closer to any man but surprisingly to her, she wasn't feeling disgusted to be so close to Mo Jiang, although, she was awestruck.
Her side-eyes gazed at his face and it was the first time, she realized that how handsome he was. 
His thick brows, pointed nose, thin lips, tight jaws, and his eyes had a gentle look as he continued to play the music.
 While noticing the details of his facial expression, she didn't notice that she had started to look at him until his sight caught her glance.
"I know I am handsome, you don't have to look at me like this."
Immediately, she snapped her neck back to the keys of the piano in awe. A fainted smile appeared on his lips and he continued to play the music.
Liu Juan was a good learner once she understood the synchronization of the keys, her fingers automatically moved without his help. The beautiful music filled in the room and a sense of achievement was shown in her eyes. 
"Let's try something more beautiful." Mo Jiang said and again he guided her finger back to the same music which he had been playing before.
"This music has so much pain." Liu Juan couldn't help but comment.
"My mother composed this music to erase her pain."
'Pain again.' Liu Juan thought to herself but her heart ached to hear his words.
"She must be a good lady." Liu Juan murmured but enough for him to hear out.
"Hmmm...She was, but why do you say so?" Mo Jiang asked while his fingers continued to guide her fingers on the keys.
"Good people always be in pain." Liu Juan's twinkle eyes looked at him to which he looked at back to her eyes, unanticipatedly, she saw the pain in his eyes.
'He wasn't a good man though.' Liu Juan wondered.

"Oh? Aah no, because it's still morning so it's still quiet. Usually Minerva will be crowded after lunch or after school hours," I replied 

Minerva is the name of my book cafe. My concept of this cafe is a combination of a library and a coffee shop. Minerva is not too big but has 3 floors. The ground floor is an office, a storeroom of books and other items and a place where my employees rest. 

The 1st floor is a reception, coffee shop and reading area. You can read while enjoying coffee, cakes and even chatting with your friends. While on the 2nd floor there is a children's reading area and an open area with chairs and tables. Minerva is located in yongsandong, not far from Itaewon. And surrounded by many schools and universities. 

That's the reason why I opened a cafe here. Although the rent here is quite expensive, this area is very crowded in certain seasons. And also only 10 minutes from my apartment. 

"Will there be another live music performance here tonight?" Asked Sun Mi again while sipping her coffee 

"Yes, every Friday and Saturday there is always a live musical performance. Tonight I will play the piano", I replied with a smile 

"Wow, daebak! Then I'll come back again this afternoon with my friends," Sun Mi said excitedly 

"Please ... I'll wait for you," I replied 

Actually, I'm a bachelor of instrumental music at Seoul University. I've been playing the piano and guitar since I was kid. That's because my father is a pianist and composer in an orchestra in Gwangju. When I was young, I used to listen to my dad playing piano. And this is what made me fall in love with music.

However, besides liking music, I also really like reading. Books are my most valuable treasure. You  can learn many things the from a book. And this is what made me open Book Cafe. I can combine all the things I like, books, music and snacks hahaha ...

"Oenni (sister)...a package of books came, they asked to see you", suddenly one of my employees approached 

"Oh ... well I'll meet them. Thank you Ae ri", I replied 

"Sun Mi, I have to go for a while, is it okay if I leave you for a moment?" I asked, standing up 

"Ah no no ... I will also go. I have a meeting with the fabric supplier this afternoon. I will be back later this afternoon, okay," answered Sun Mi 

"Alright then, see you later this evening," I said, smiling

"Yeah! So Ra, thank you for coming with me to the fansign," she answered as she left and waved her hand.

Finally Sun Mi left with a big smile on her face. And I rushed to my room to meet my guest.

"Should I go? I'm not a true ARMY like you Sun Mi. I just enjoy their songs, I don't even remember the names of this Bangtan Sonyeondan members," I replied

The next Monday.
Around fifteen to twenty minutes past three.
Inside the reading room of Westride High School, five figures could be seen sitting around a table, with several books placed on it. Silence ruled the air as the figures seemed to be deeply immersed in the books they were reading... Not all of them though.
The figures were two males and three female counterparts — Gary, Henry, Laura and her best friends - Stephanie and Ashley. This arrangement commenced today after receiving an approval from the principal the week before, enabling them to use an extra thirty minutes in the school after school hours. Truthfully, it was to encourage an improvement in Gary's grades as the principal hardly ever approves of such. But, it came with a warning — "Don't cause havoc on any of the school properties!", the principal had told the group of teenagers who had a huge tendency of running wild.
Seated in the middle of Henry and Stephanie, with Laura's sitting position in his line of sight, Gary looked bored as he casually flipped through the History textbook in front of him. His elbow was placed on the table with his hand being used to support his chin, revealing an unenthusiastic expression.
His mind trailed off as he recollected how he got into this 'mess'— Nah, disaster... that sounds more pleasing, he concluded in his mind. If the stupid 'i've-got-a-plan' Henry hadn't pushed him to go apologize to Laura after the incident of that last Thursday, maybe by now he'd be in the comfort of his bed, jamming some Chris Brown tunes... or maybe Drake's.
Henry's plan was to lure Laura into the reading which she had initially suggested. Why? Maybe he could get a great chance with Stephanie, his love stricken crush since freshman year. And that's where Gary comes in. The only thing Gary needed to do was apologize to Laura about the outburst directed at her, and then Laura accepts his apology, making Henry's infatuating vision become a reality.
The plan was a success, 'cause as soon as Gary apologized in between mumbles, Laura immediately accepted his apology as she revealed a bright smile. It wasn't a surprising thing though, to Gary, as he was expecting a quick response. Henry quickly took the initiative to tell her they were in for the after school reading, leading to this... this...
Why do people even read?, Gary wondered as he put his left hand on his hair and immediately turned his gaze to the jerk of a friend called Henry.
But that timing was simply bad... real bad timing. He caught Henry staring at Stephanie who was deeply engrossed in whatever book she was reading. Well, they were both sitting opposite each other. Henry had been quick to take his gaze off her but it was too late as Gary had already seen him. If only he was a second earlier...
'He made me do this and he isn't even doing it. What else should I be expecting?' Gary thought and snorted silently. He had the urge to stand up and leave the library, but he composed himself and sat still. The last thing he needed now was to explain himself for attempting to leave.
He glanced at the wristwatch bounded on his left wrist. He had deliberately chosen to strap it on today so he could keep track of time. It was three-twenty already and that meant ten more minutes was left to round-off. He heaved a sigh of relief. He couldn't wait to get out of here. This torturous site...
Ten minutes eventually passed. Without wasting time, he got up and began to put the book into his bag which was resting on the leg of the chair he was sitting on. Indirectly, he was passing a message to the others — It's time to leave, you bookworms!
Noticing Gary's movement, the others seemed to get the message as they immediately initiated a dispersal from the reading room. From Gary's side, Henry sneered at him as he thought: 'Lazy As*,'
They all got ready to leave. 'A wasted day,' Gary mentally said as he strapped his bag to his back. Now, he truly wished he was home already to jam some tunes.
Suddenly, a small elegant handed landed on his back as he felt the presence of someone behind him. He turned to see Laura standing in front of him.
"Gary," she said in a solemn voice, "I noticed you weren't really concentrating in the reading. Is something bothering you?"
'Why does she even have to care?' he wondered. 'See why I didn't want to join this arrangement... Urrgh!'
He quickly replied by shaking his head and she continued. "I know you aren't used to this but it's best if you could clear your mind off anything disturbing you. We're doing this for you and I hope you get the best from it."
'Hell yeah it's for me. Just confess you want to get closer to me. And it seems you haven't checked Henry out though,' he laughed inwardly. He smiled and gave her a 'thank you' look before eventually thanking her.
"Thanks Laura," he said while adjusting the strapped bag on his back, "I'll try to work on that."
"Please do," she told him calmly.
Since they were all done packing up, they all went out of the reading room. They all conversed on their way out with Henry and Ashley being the major speakers. Although Ashley wasn't at all that familiar with the boys, she had a carefree character which enabled her to strike a conversation with anybody.
"Have you seen the new intern in the music class? God, I wish I had such blue eyes like hers," Ashley sighed and looked lost in thoughts after commenting. Forgetting she was still with the others, she almost collided with Laura who was beside her.
Stephanie immediately nudged her from behind, "Snap out of it you dreamer,"
"Don't tell me you are attracted to the intern..." Henry spoke.
"Is there a crime if I am?" Ashley nonchalantly questioned.
Henry shook his head. "No, no. Go on,"
Among the rest, one of them wasn't even listening in to the conversation. It was Gary. A statement from Ashley had caught his attention, leaving him in deep thoughts. '... blue eyes...' That sounded familiar. Yes, it's indeed familiar. The lady he bumped into a week ago. But he wasn't going to jump into conclusions yet.
They got to the school parking lot and from there, they departed from each other with the boys heading straight for the school gate. Stephanie had brought her ride as she was obviously legal to, so Laura and Ashley hopped in to join her for a ride home since their residences were a bit far from the school.
Henry and Gary stayed nearly the same street and their houses weren't too far from the school, so they walked home together.
For some minutes, they walked in silence. Different thoughts were running through their minds. Henry was hoping inwardly that Gary wouldn't talk about the issue with Stephanie but Gary's mind wasn't even on that. His mind was fixated on the blue-eyed intern Ashley had talked about. Is she the one I bumped into that day?, he wondered.
Suddenly, he turned his gaze to Henry and let out, "How about we join the music class..."
For some seconds, Henry didn't reply as he tried to reason out what Gary just said. As soon as he got a grip of it, he asked: "What?"
Gary sighed. "How. about. we. join. the. music. class..." He reiterated, this time slowly as he emphasized on each word.
"Music class?" Henry was surprised. "Why do you want to do that?"
"It's a 'we' bro. I want us to both join the music class." He replied as he adjusted his hair. It seems he's obsessed with touching his hair every single time he's opportune to.
"I still don't get why you want 'Us' to join the music class. Is there anything interesting going on in it?" Henry inquired.
"Don't worry about the reason. Or don't you want to get a chance with Stephanie anymore?" Gary chuckled as he used Stephanie as a bait for Henry.
Henry glared at him. "Don't you dare use that to lure me in!"
"Are we joining or not?" Gary nonchalantly asked.
"Fine..." Henry admitted.
Gary shook his head and smirked. "I finally have what to use against you. Don't try to chicken out,"
"You..." Henry scowled in contempt, receiving a chuckle from Gary.

Shishiro's POV

"Bye guys~" I said as i get into my car leaving the others.

"So my lady how is school today" The driver asked.

"It was delightful i manage to do something i hasn't manage to do in a long time with the others" I replied

"It's so nice to be young isn't it? I remember the day when i was just like you–" 

"Ehehe" I et out a quiet giggle there he goes again he often reminisce about his past when was still young.

He's isn't that old to begin with he is a really nice and dependable person if there is anyone i trust its him.

Not long after we arrived at my home "okay my lady contact me if you need anything else okay?" He said.

"Will do take care okay?" I replied and he nodded and drive off.

I entered the house and the first thing i saw is my mom drinking tea in the leaving room while reading a book.

She noticed me "Ahh Shishi~ welcome home darling" She greeted me with a smile.

"I'm home mom what are you reading?" I asked.

"Oh this? this is the newest release from YunaYuki i really love her works" She said excited.

"YunaYuki? Isn't that?" I realized that my mom has been reading Makoto's sister's novel.

"What was that?" She asked.

"Ah no nothing mom i was just thinking that the book looks interesting hehe" I replied.

"It's really great the book told a story about–"

My mom spend minutes explaining basically everything there is in the book but i have read all the book even before it was released.

Maybe i should introduce Makoto's sister to my mom sometime.

But for now i don't have other choice than to listen to my mother's endless talk.

"By the way mom im gonna go get change now" I said stopping her.

"Oh right im sorry go ahead darling ohh i left a pudding at the desk in your room" he said.

"Really thank you mother" I replied and went over to my room and get change to my casual clothing.

I look over to my desk and there was a plastic bag on top of it.

"Ah pudding~" I always liked sweets and pudding is my favorite.

I took the pudding out of my plastic bag and enjoy every bite of it.

"Ahh~ so delicious" I said.

After i finish eating my pudding i head over to my piano in my room.

"Hmm let's see how should i continue this" I said as i stare at a music sheet that i try to create myself.

I have been trying to make my own music but i can't seem to finish its so hard to arrange it.

I tried to play the melody over and over  while thinking of the continuation but no matter how many times i try i can't. 

I tried listening to music trying to find inspiration but its also no good.

I kept trying different methods for hours and then i finally gave up.

I let out a sigh "Maybe im just not talented like father" 

I decided to take a book from my bookcase i really like reading fantasy stories and i have an entire bookcase full of them.

"Melodies of the sylph i haven't read this one yet" I lay down on my bed and read the book.

The book is surprisingly great it tells a story of a sylph that can't listen to music and then he met a male sylph singing in the sky at night and that was the first time she ever heard music.

My mind is completely captivated i cry i laugh and i blush during it but sadly a story must have an ending, I put the boom back in the bookcase and lay back down on my bed "let's see there is no homework,ate,play piano and read books i guess all that is left now is to sleep" I let out a sigh and close my eyes.

Bzzt bzzt "Ah!"

I was almost asleep before i was woken up by the vibration of my phone.

"Ah its Ryuji!" I picked up the call and a voice of a young man can be heard.

"Hello are you home yet?" He asked.

This is Kuroyuki Ryuji a first year at our highschool he also love music but he can't play any instrument instead he sing.

"Ryuji hello good afternoon how are you? Yes im already home" I replied.

"Im good" He replied.

"What can i help you with?" I asked.

"Oh nothing im just wondering if you want to visit? So we can hangout" He asked.

"Sure why not i would love to it has been a while ill be there as soon as possible"

"Great then ill wait take care" He said as he close the call.

I quickly took my music sheets with me hoping that he might be able to help me out.

I went to the living room and my mom is still there reading "Where are you going Shishi?" She asked.

"I'm going to Ryuji's" I replied.

"Oh? It's been a while hasn't it? Take care then tell him i said hi" She said.

"Will do mother" I replied.

I called the driver and ask him to take me to Ryuji's place after a few minutes he then arrived and took me there.

"I'll pick you up at 6 okay?" Said the driver.

"Yeah got it thanks again" I replied.

I rang the doorbell to Ryuji's house soon after he then opened the door "Shishi welcome come in" He welcomed me.

"Ryuji its nice to see you again i haven't got a chance to meet you at school" I said as i enter the house.

"Is that so? Haha i never leave the classroom that's probably why anyways have a seat" I sat down on a couch in his living room.

"Say what's that on your hand?" He looked at the sheet i brought.

"Oh this? So i was thinking on making my own music but i hit a dead end mid way and i can't find any inspiration to continue it" I said

"Oh really? Can i hear it? You can use the piano in my room if you want" He said.

"Sure why not let's go" We both went to his room and i saw a grand piano in the middle of the room.

Ryuji's father left it for him before he passed away its must mean a lot to him.

"Okay if you'll excuse me" I said.

"Go ahead" He gave the permission.

I sat down at the piano and play the melody written wholeheartedly and then stopped.

"Well that's it" I said

"Hmm maybe something along here?" I was surprised when he walked towards me and play the piano like a professional.

"Oh wow that's a perfect fit have you been learning?" I asked amazed.

"Yeah been playing little by little" He scratched the back of his head. 

"Play a song for me would you?" I asked

He then nodded and play a really emotional music.

His fingers dancing on top of the piano with a face full of expression.

Soon it then came to me the melody that i needed but before i say anything my phone rang its already 6 and its time for me to go home.

I part ways with Ryuji and when i arrived at my home i went to my room sat down and write the melody.

After that i called Ryuji telling him the good news he said he cant wait to hear me play.

"You're going to love it its called will of the fairies" I said excited.

"Can't wait next time ill come over to your house okay?" He asked.

"Sure why not" I replied.

I end the call and the couldn't help but to jump in happiness i quickly tell my mom and dad what happened.

I invite them to my room as i show them the music i have created i can see the shocked in my fathers eyes and the tears that came down from my mothers eyes.

I can tell both of them are happy and so am i.

"Say Shishiro do you want to preform in a concert" Asked my father.

My eyes immediately lit up when i hear that "I would love to but" 

"But what?" He asked.

"I want to preform with a special guest" i request.

"Who is it?" He asked curious.

"Ryuji" I said smiling.

I can tell both of them are surprised "why Ryuji?" Asked my mother.

"Because this song would never be complete without him" I said.

"Then ill arrange it just tell me when you both are ready" Said my father.

I hugged both of my parents i couldn't hold my tears finally i can perform finally i can show people what i can do?

I hope both me and Ryuji can play our melody together.

"Bonds are not bounds to lovers that is a thing some people tend not to understand, bonds can come in many form friendship,family,jobs,hobby and many more"

"Oh, what I would give to listen to music right now," Bryony said, flopping dramatically onto the bed with a sigh.
It had been at least ten minutes since Marjorie left, and she hadn't come back yet. Bryony was starting to wonder if she even was coming back. Maybe something happened and now it was taking longer for her to get Elon and come back.
Bryony was bored. She rolled over and lifted her head up from the comfy pillow to look over at Aven. He was preoccupied with some books he had found. He was sitting on the floor crosslegged, leaning forward a bit as he read whatever the book he had was. Devlin was curled up on his lap sleeping, so the book was lying on the floor in front of Aven. He was stroking Devlin's soft fur with one of his hands, while the other was holding his face up as he leaned on it to read the book better. His face looked kind of squished from leaning on his hand, but it looked cute.
It was like Aven could feel her eyes on him, because he looked up at her, and she quickly looked away, flopping back down onto the bed. Please he didn't see me. Bryony thought. Please! She heard him turn a page from the book and she quietly sighed in relief. He didn't see her, or he didn't care that she was watching him. He was too preoccupied with the book, he seemed really interested in it.
Bryony sat up again and looked over at him. He could read? How come he knew how to read, but didn't know almost everything else? Did he learn how to read? Or did he naturally know how to when he was born? What was he reading anyway? Was it good? The book looked big, not one of those short childrens book she had always read to Greta and the twins. She hated reading those books, they were childish. She liked adult books, ones that were horror and fantasy and mystery-thriller. But her favorite book genre to read was romance. She always loved reading romance books. Amara always teased her because of it, because to her, 'romance was too cliche and boring', but Bryony didn't care, some cliches were actually cute.
Bryony just then noticed that Aven was looking at her, and she blinked and shook her head. Had she been staring at him that whole time? She was thinking of books, it probably looked like she was just staring at him or thinking of him. Bryony slapped herself and groaned. Why did she have to go deep into thought and not notice what she was staring at?
"Yeah, I'm definitely going to die of embarrassment one day," Bryony said, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, I was just thinking of books. I didn't mean to be staring at you."
Aven didn't say anything, he just nodded and then turned his attention back to the book. Well, at least he didn't care. Or he was too innocent to think about or know what that kind of stuff was. Bryony felt a little better now.
She stood up from the bed and walked over to her backpack and picked it up. She hadn't went through it yet since Aven had given it to her when Auntie Collette packed stuff for her. Bryony still couldn't get over the fact that she knew. She knew! Did she know Bryony's parents were taken too? Did she know they were protectors? What did she know? Did she know everything?
Bryony sat back down onto the bed and opened her backpack up. She dumped everything in it onto the bed, and that caught Aven's attention, because he looked up from the book to look over at her. Bryony looked up at him. "Sorry, I'm just going through this stuff."
Bryony turned back to the stuff she dumped on the bed. There was the first aid kit Auntie Collette always had on hand just in case something happened to her or her kids. There were a couple flashlights and some extra batteries, a couple water bottles with a few granola bars, some rope, and a sheathed dagger. Bryony wasn't even going to ask where she got that, she probably had it since forever. There was some sunscreen, a bandana, which Bryony had no idea when she would need that, or what to do with it, and a compass. At the bottom of the pile of things sat Bryony's phone and earphones, and she squealed when she saw it, and quickly grabbed it.
She turned her phone on, but there was no data or connection to anything.
"Darn it," Bryony groaned, throwing the phone onto the bed and folding her arms. "Why did you pack my phone when I can't even talk to you?"
Bryony picked her phone up to see if it would work again, but it didn't. She sighed, finally giving up. She found her music app and immediately looked up at Aven and smiled. He didn't see, he was still reading the book and not paying attention to her. Bryony stood up and skipped over to where he was at and sat down, scooting the book away from him. Aven looked up at her with a confused look, but she shook her head and held up her phone and earphones. "You ever heard music before?"
Aven shook his head.
"Oh, you're going to love this," Bryony said and plugged her earphones in her phone. She put one of them in her ear and then handed the other to Aven, who took it and just stared at it with a half confused and half curious look. She scrolled through her music. "I'm going to show you my favorite song, one moment, I have so many songs, it might take me a while before I find it."
After a few moments she found it. Someone to you by banners
Bryony smiled and looked up at Aven and was about to ask if he was ready, but stopped when she saw him holding the earphone she had given him up and staring at it in confusion. Bryony laughed a little. "It goes in your ear. Here, let me help you."
She took the earphone and brought it up to his ear, but he flinched away and gave her this look, which only made her laugh again. "It doesn't hurt, don't worry. See?" She showed him the earphone that was in her ear.
Aven let her put it in his ear, but he made a face when it was in. He wasn't used to it.
"Okay, you ready now?" Bryony asked him and he slowly nodded, kind of unsure.
She pushed play, and immediately the music started playing into the earphones. Aven jumped and smacked the earphone out of his ear and scooted away from Bryony, who was laughing her head off as she paused the song. "I'm so sorry! I like turning the music up all the way, but then forget to turn it back down. I'll turn it down, I'm sorry that was too loud."
She held the earphone out for him, but he shook his head. She nodded and then unplugged them from her phone. "Okay, no earphones. Lesson learned. " She laughed again as she thought of his face when she played the song. His face was too funny, but she felt really bad for forgetting to turn it down. She always forgot everything.
Aven grabbed the book he was reading and started reading it again, so Bryony shrugged and stood up to sit on the bed. She layed down onto the bed and put her phone on her shoulder as she pushed play. She closed her eyes and listened to the song.
Music always helped her feel better. She always felt calm and relaxed whenever she listened to music. She wouldn't know what she would do if music didn't exist. She smiled as she listened to the words to the song.
If you feel the great dividing, I wanna be the one you're guiding, cause I believe that you could lead the way.
That's when the chorus hit and Bryony moved her feet to the beat as she started singing along.
"I just wanna be somebody to someone, oh I wanna be somebody to someone. Oh, I never had nobody and no road home, I wanna be somebody to someone." She stood up and started dancing around as the music got louder and more upbeat, and she pretended to be holding a microphone. "And if the sun's upset, and the sky goes cold. Then if the clouds get heavy and start to fall, I really need somebody to call my own, I wanna be somebody to someone. Someone to youuu! Someone to youuu!"
Bryony stopped dancing and turned to Aven as she saw him watching her. He looked confused, and slightly weirded out, and Bryony laughed a little. "I'm dancing."
Aven tilted his head, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Devlin was awake now and watching Bryony too, his big eyes filled will curiosity as his tail flicked to the side. Bryony turned the music off and then put her phone back with everything else. She turned to Aven. "I'll get you to like music sometime, and maybe even teach you how to dance."
"Dance is weird," Aven said, shaking his head, and turning back to his book. Devlin closed his eyes again, and cuddled up against Aven to go back to sleep.
"Okay, but I was just dancing weirdly on purpose. That wasn't even real dancing," Bryony said, laughing a little.
Aven shook his head, still not understanding what she said. "No, dance is weird and music is too loud and hurts my ears. I'm sticking to reading. You can dance and music."
"And listen to music," Bryony corrected him, but he just shook his head, which made her laugh a little.
Bryony sat down next to him and crossed her legs. She watched him turn a page of the book, and that's when she noticed the book was in a different language. She squinted and leaned forward more to get a better look. She pointed at the book. "What language is that?"
Aven shrugged, continuing to read.
"You can read that?" Bryony asked him, slightly jealous now. "I can't read it, it looks like gibberish and it definitely doesn't look like a language I have seen or heard of before. I'm learning Spanish and French though!"
Aven looked up from the book with an eyebrow raised.
Bryony pursed her lips. "Sorry, I keep forgetting you don't know stuff in my world. Spanish and French are just languages some people speak."
"You speak it?" Aven asked.
Bryony shook her head and let out a dry laugh. "No, I'm speaking English. You are too."
Aven shook his head, turning back to the book. "You're not speaking English. You're speaking my language."
"Um, no, I'm pretty sure I'm speaking English. I wouldn't be able to understand you if we weren't speaking in English," Bryony said.
"Vos nescitis quidquam," Aven said, shaking his head, and turning another page of the book.
"I know plenty," Bryony exclaimed, offended now, as she put her hands on her hips and scowled at him.
Aven looked up at her. "See? You speak my language."
Bryony gasped, suddenly realizing he didn't speak English. "Wait what? How the heck did I know what you said? Wait, I'm confused. How? What?"
Aven just shrugged. "Your parents."
"Did they teach me? I don't remember, " Bryony said. "I only remember them reading those dumb books to me, and then being taken. I don't remember anything else."
Aven tapped her forehead. "It's in here. Buried deep."
"Memories, " Bryony whispered and Aven nodded.
"It's okay, " Aven said after a moment. "It'll take time to remember it, you buried everything deep, but you'll remember."
Bryony slowly nodded. "Okay."
Aven turned back to the book and leaned forward to continue reading, and this time Bryony didn't say anything. She let him read the book and just sighed, laying down on the floor, and staring up at the ceiling. Her head was barely touching Aven's knee, and she smiled when Aven leaned over her and stared down at her with a curious look. "I'm just relaxing. You should join me, it always feels nice."
Aven shook his head and turned back to the book. Bryony closed her eyes with a sigh and enjoyed the silence, and the sound of Aven turning the book pages when he was done reading a page. She could hear Devlin's soft and quiet breaths as he slept, and she smiled a little.
Devlin was adorable. He really seemed to like Aven.
"Hey," Aven said after a moment, and Bryony opened her eyes. "It's your parents."
Bryony immediately sat up and looked around the room. "Where?"
"No, in the book," Aven said, pointing at the book.
"Oh," Bryony said quietly, disappointed in herself that she was dumb enough to think her parents were in the house with them. She looked down at the book and stared at the page with the two faces staring back. She snatched the book from Aven and stuck her face in the book, staring at them.
"Why are they in this book?" Bryony asked. "What does it say? Tell me what it says." She shoved the book back into Aven's hands and pointed at it. "Read it." She was quiet for a moment, before she said, "please."
"Amos and Paola, " Aven read, before he looked up at Bryony.
"I know their names!" Bryony exclaimed. "What does it say?"
"That's what it says, " Aven said.
Bryony shook her head, grabbing the book from his hands again and setting it down onto her lap. "No, that can't be all of what it says. My parents are missing, it should say more about it. It shouldn't just say their names, I know their names already. It should say something I don't know about them, like if they're okay, or if they're being tortured, or if they're hiding something else from me I should know." Tears were forming in her eyes, making her vision blurry as she stared down at the book. "Did they even love me? If they did, they wouldn't have left me. They would have told me more and waited until I was old enough to understand before they put everything onto me to fix."
"I can't do this, I don't understand anything! They shouldn't have left. I didn't have my mother when I needed her, I didn't have a mother to talk to boys about, or about growing up and I didn't have the talk with her. I didn't have a dad who taught me to how to ride a bike or change tires from a car. I didn't have a father who would make me laugh when I was sad. I didn't have a mother who would hug me and tell me everything was okay when I got my heart broken. I... I didn't have parents. I grew up without them. Auntie Collette was there for me and did all that stuff for me. She may not be my mother, but she loved me like a mother. I miss my parents though."
Bryony started crying as she looked up at Aven for a moment, before shaking her head and looking back down at the book, and the picture of her parents. "You probably don't understand."
"I do," Aven said quietly.
Bryony looked up at him. "You do?"
"Just the part about being without parents," Aven said. "I didn't understand anything else."
Bryony laughed. "Didn't your parents teach you that stuff? Or teach you anything? I'm pretty sure when you were a baby or little, they taught you that stuff. You seriously don't know what a father and mother do for you? Usually the father is the fun, goofy, one who makes you laugh and teaches you lessons in life and how to survive if you ever get lost or anything. And usually the mother is the loving one who is there to talk to you about friend drama or boy drama, well not to you because you are a boy, but yeah. Fathers are loving too. They teach you the things in life as you grow older. When you turn thirteen, you're a teenager and they'll you teach you about the hormones you'll experience, and love, and marriage and..." Bryony trailed off as Aven just stared at her. He wasn't getting any of it. She waved her hand and smiled. "Nevermind, sorry, I'm just confusing you."
"How old are you?" Aven asked her. He obviously knew about ages. Of course he did  who wouldn't?
"I'm sixteen, turning seventeen in a few months, " Bryony said. "What about you?"
"Sixteen, " Aven said.
"When's your birthday? I want to see who's older, " Bryony said.
"Um, I turned sixteen about three months ago," Aven said. "September."
Bryony gasped. "I'm older than you! Ha! Take that."
"When are you turning seventeen?" Aven asked her.
"March," Bryony laughed. "I'm like half a year older then you. Aw, you're a little baby to me. How cuuute."
"Hey," Aven said, which only made Bryony laugh more. "Six months younger doesn't make me a baby."
"But to me you are," Bryony said as she patted his head, and laughed as he swatted her hand away. "You're still taller, so that should make you happy. Not by much, but still taller than me. Actually, I'm pretty normal in height so you only being a little taller than me, that makes you short. For a boy at least. Usually boys are taller."
"Whatever," Aven said, shaking his head.
"Here, stand up. Lets see," Bryony said as she stood up. "I'm 5'5, lets see how much taller you are and I'll guess to how tall you are."
Aven stood up and Bryony stepped closer to him so the tips of their shoes were touching. "Stand up straight," Bryony said as she stood up straight and then looked up at Aven. When he stood up straight, she used her hand to measure how shorter she was to him. She put her hand to the top of her head and then slid it off to touch a little higher than the middle of Aven's forehead, and she smiled. "You're probably, like, maybe, 5'6 or 5'7 or something. I don't know, I'm just guessing. I'm almost to your height so you aren't that much taller than me, just barely taller. In fact, if I tip toe I'm taller than you."
Bryony laughed as she stood on her toes and patted his head again, which only made him swat her hand away like last time. "This is the first time I've met a boy who was younger than me and short. All the boys I have ever talked to were older and way taller."
"Nothing's wrong with me," Aven said.
"I didn't say there was anything wrong with you," Bryony said. "I think it's cute."
"Whatever," Aven said and shook his head as Bryony smiled at him.

As a young girl, Bryony, had always believed in magic and fantasy. But when her parents were taken from her, she slowly stopped believing and the light in her slowly faded away. But one night as she's reading one of her moms old books about magic, a mysterious person visits her telling her that it's her job to help the last dragon born and save her parents, finally bringing peace to the lands 

Confused and curious, Bryony goes on the adventure she had always wanted to go on as a little girl. But what she finds, is the new world isn't anything like in the books she had always read. It was a world of darkness and unforgiving things, and she is determined to bring back the light and turn it back into the stories her parents once told her. Stories of happiness, and peace... and magic
