Art Indigo can't remember the last time she was emotional. Sometimes, she barely feels human. 
       That is, until she joins the gathering; a group of people who dance in circles and chant in the woods. However, the strange gathering seems to be her only solace from the eyes that expect too much. Entrusted with the safekeeping of their precious book, she can no longer stay detached and distant as she is drawn into their conflict with another group. 
       In the midst of all this, Art struggles to make sense of her life. She can't seem to get along with any of her regular friends, and she might even push away the one person she truly cares about. After joining the gathering, Art finally relearns what it means to have emotions such as love, hate, anger, joy... pain. Now, everything hurts.

A gathering of the century, as the elders sit around the All Knowing, sharing their tales and adventures.

"Western fantasy" (or the Easts interpretation of western) and cultivation novels generally have some aspects  similar to each other.

They both have common ground in "individuals with power" and "skill progression."  


How I will define western fantasy; 
it should in include mythic or magical creatures (includes "Demi-humans and most monsters like goblins) 

magic as a ubiquitous force or as a "mentally generated" energy (like through meditation) 

a system of "jobs" which can be visible(via stat plate example is THE DEATH MAGE WHO DOESN'T WANT A FOURTH TIME) or invisible (I don't remember any good examples from the top of my head, but they exist,)

religion/gods is usually included in this style of fantasy

magic items (most often includes potions, armor, and magic crystals.)

Generally the system of government is mostly kingdoms/empires (oligarchy being left out is a sad boy right there.) democracy is usually excluded due to it not being of the medieval time period (for the most part)

Most power is very specific, and what I mean is think elemental mages; light, dark,  fire, ice, wind, and earth (traditionally anyway.) sometimes they don't use the same type mana. Think of magic the gathering, so you have colored mana in the specific elements. Then you might have "wizards" that can use colorless mana, so they invoke different elements (let's call it "pure mana.")  

Or other powers that are specialized is warrior energies like "ki" (even tho that is taken more eastern fantasy you still find it in western due to it being a good concept, and that it helps balance the playing field for warriors because wizards and mages be op as hell,) and faith based powers.



While cultivation is more how should I put this.  It's powers are more connected, and this is mostly due to the concept of the "great dao" (im not to familiar with what it actually is/means due to most cultivation novels being over 3000 chapters long or being never ending which is unique perk that cultivation novels have ill talk more about this later.) I understand it as rules/laws that govern the world that give individuals power (roast me in the comments if you have a better idea of how to describe it.) 

The cultivation powers are usually broken down into good, evil, alchemy, and body cultivation (evil is usually forbidden cultivation or demonic cultivation.) (body cultivation is bodybuilding on ultra steroids.) (you don't need me to explain the alchemy one if you read cultivation novels.)

Then you get into the "laws" section of cultivation usually fundamental rules of the world like fire, ice, or lightning.

The powers are very talent based (you don't have power or talent no respect for you my good sir! Except when you are an alchemist.)

The energy that the cultivators use is for "techniques." These are weapon and movement arts. (moments arts are like flash step or flying) sometimes you have defensive arts too but less common.  
(If you need a good reference, for what I'm talking about In this part look into Unrivaled Medicine God it has many of the ideas explained above)

They also have a unique system in these type novels "worlds/pocket spaces." They are generally hierarchical high order world to low order worlds. (again look to unrivaled medicine god for how this works.)

Another unique aspect of cultivation is the breakthroughs.  Most often the lower level breakthroughs are nothing to mention, and they happen at specific energy capacities most of the time.  This is not the case once you get higher though. How you may ask well it's when they have to go through tribulations or trials when starts to diversify from normal fantasy.  When going through these "tribulations" often enough it changes the very energy they use. This often described as a qualitative change. 

The reason this is a unique thing to cultivation is due to how the power system of magic in fantasy works.  Most often in western fantasy magic doesn't really change maybe you get an additional affinity, but most often it is only cares about the quantity.  (While yes they do often talk about purity of mana, but that is just removing flaws that doesn't quite cause a qualitative change to occur.)

(I know I just made half the people that will ever read this either bored or angry about explaining all of this, but it needs to be explained.)



(This section will start talking about combining them don't worry)

Section A
First I would like to put forth an example of what I think we should aim for.  
I think Warlock of the Magus World fits the bill on combining the two genres.  (BEWARE AFTER THIS POINT THERE WILL BE SPOILER FOR THE NOVEL skip to section B if you want to avoid spoiler I do recommend you read the warlock of the magus world if you haven't already) It uses magic but at Points in the journey he has to make a "breakthrough" using materials to have qualitative changes while gaining quantity increases in magic.  The main character has to find or make new spells that use this energy. Then it loops back, but with a wider area to explore that was limiting him before.  
I'll skip some of the plot to shorten the amount of reading.
The very power he gains is derived from the world/pocket space very much like the great dao I talked about earlier. Then when he reaches a certain level he learns that the very planet is also somewhat a cultivator as well.
The power levels go from 1 to 9 at nine you gain immortality at this point nothing can stop you.

How you get to eight is you combine laws (in this case they act more like attributes.) this combination of law must be able to use the law of time, and when you learn the law of time you become a level nine being

the main character originally stole the law of gluttony (but change it into devouring) he used this to steal the other sins, and after he had them all he combined them into what is called the "Original sin."  The reason he is able to learn time law from this is due to all intellectual beings being able to sin regardless of time.


Section B
To marry the two genres to make an aberration like western cultivation is an interesting prospect that needs skills I just don't currently have.  

You need to balance the energy quantity then have a boundary that will qualitatively change the energy into a higher form. 

Then you have to figure out how you will deal with laws are they just fundamental rules, or is it the broken down form of a primordial energy?

How will you deal with the pocket space or worlds?


End section
Mind you this whole chapter can be takin as a grain of salt, but it does have good points on the fusion of the two topics.  This was a good mental exercise for myself.  This is not a common topic as far as I know, so I thought I might bring this idea to the table.  

Also thanks to anyone that actually made it to the end section.  I know I'm horrible at making it not boring to read but I did love writing about this topic myself.

Chapter 73: ファーミング①:マーナの塊

I have a habit of reading books before going to sleep, well in the previous world they are usually in a form of light novels or Japanese manga, there are also times when I know that there is no work the next day I would watch a lot of anime, but unfortunately there are none of those here at present so I could not help it. Right now I am reading a few books in a form of Lunamaya-sensei's notes. I currently have taken three of them and stashed them in 'The CABINET' lower right corner together with my camping tools.

Although I say I just took three, they were thick as the logs currently protecting me from any stray arrows I am not yet even halfway through the book. As I lying in my side while reading few chapters to tire my eyes, a chapter in the book made me sit and fully awake:

'MANA Crystals are crystalized MANA that can be considered a concentration of the elements in the surrounding area.'

'There are two types of MANA Crystals: 1st is the Gathering MANA Crystal, just like how it sounds, it is a type of MANA Crystal that gathers the elements in the surroundings and crystalize. The 2nd is Conversion MANA Crystal which converts the highly concentration of elements into its opposing element. While rare, they are somehow abundant inside old untouched dungeons.'

'It is for this type of crystal that I had created my previously stated MANA CONVERSION magic, since it was tiresome to go dungeons just to convert mana to its opposite elements, what a pain'

Just to be expected for a genius, she just deliberately called collecting MANA Crystals a pain so she invented a new magic. They did say that laziness is the mother of all invention, I guess for her it was creating a new magic. Although, I have been saved by constantly using the MANA Conversion skill here in these floors I think that having these MANA Crystals might be plus for me while in this UNDEAD zone. Okay, let's make tomorrow Farming Day.

After a night of rest, my body was lighter and more energetic, while part of it was because of the rest part of it was also due to the new discovery I had learned last night. Today I will be on the search and farming of MANA Crystal.

Lunamaya-sensei's Notes said that they are abundant in dungeons, but did not really think that they were just their under my nose the whole time. When I first entered the dungeon, they were indeed there just glowing, and here was me who just completely ignored it. I did think they were valuable and all but the unpleasant thing was driving me away from them so I decided not to do anything to them. Well they are accumulation of MANA after all one wrong move and they will be my demise. 

I took out a pickaxe tool from 'The CABINET' and started to slowly farm some MANA Crystal. Using some ragged clothes worn by some of the UNDEAD, I sew a simple handy bag to carry a few of these crystals, since I did not necessarily need to carry the Gathering Crystal I left them in an area so that they will be teleported to Girmoire-chan after  minutes. The one I want are the Conversion MANA Crystals, specifically the ones who have turned into Holy MANA Cyrstals. With this I don't  have to use MANA CONVERSION Magic every time I want to use my HAMA or BANISHING Skills.

That is quite a relief.


A lone male is sent to another world.

After all he was alone in a white sandy luxurious beach, he does not possess any cheat abilities, or powerful equipment. He has nothing but his white t-shirt, black pants, back shoes and a ship...

I woke up in my bed so at some point Makino must have come in and found me passed out on the floor. Thinking I must have tuckered myself out due to my age, she put me to bed.

It is dark out. I am unable to tell if it is late at night or very early in the morning. I am not able to use the position of the stars or the moon to tell. After all I never studied astrology.

Fumbling my way through the near pitch black dark, using what little moon and starlight I can. I find the Shinra Chest near the closet with the cell laying closed on top.

"Here we are."

Flipping open the phone the screen lights up and shows me a  number of options you would expect from one of those system novels and fanfiction. The options are as followed...

I glance at the 3 databases at the bottom of the menu.

"I can understand the Shinra Inc. Database, but what about the Umbrella Corp. Database? That had nothing to do with the Final Fantasy series."

I click on the UC Database in curiosity but a mechanical voice denies me access.

"What kind of data would I need to actually spend money on? A viral infection that turns people into mindless flesh eating zombies and wildlife into mutated abominations?"

I chuckle.

"Then again Umbrella's technology was not just biological apocalyptic weapons. They had some good tech and their normal pharmaceutics were revolutionary, they just had their priorities wrong."


I clicked on the Status option and a series of information about my condition appears. There is no exp or levels you would expect from a role playing game, like you would see in a normal system novel. It merely shows my level in comparison to the powerhouses in this world.

These stats are simple and basic so it is very easy to understand.

According to what I have read of these stat's descriptions. Physique represents a person's physical characteristics such as strength, resilience, stamina, and mobility. The more you train your body, the higher your ranking. As an inexperienced child it is naturally at it's lowest

Magic represents the potency and capacity of my magical abilities when I have magic materia equipped. I can cast more spells and deal more devastating damage with magic.

Experience isn't a numerical value that raises everytime you slay hostile elements and level up. It is your capabilities to skillfully put your abilities to perfect use in combat. In a battle between 2 similar level opponents, the one with more experience has the advantage.

Thanks to Soldier 1st Class Sephiroth's personal experiences and memories when it involves combat, magic, and personal training regime as well as enhanced physique due to the J-Cells and mako injections. My growth will be faster than when he originally trained

I have access to everything he had minus the resources provided by the company. But I gave a feeling the shop may have that available for me.

TSKSR is one of the oldest forms of martial arts and consists of single handed swords, dual swords, short swords, long staffs, quick drawing techniques, glaives, spears, and throwing weapons.

More advanced techniques also involve grappling and knife fighting, intelligence gathering and analysis, strategy and tactics, astronomy; geomantic divination, and philosophy and mysticism (It's real, look it up.).

"I will just simplify the name as Swordsmanship."

I have come to learn that more skills can be learned from mastering a materia or personally training and learning something personally.

That means I will need to actually try and master something manually. Unfortunately for me, something not personally learned or experienced by my predecessor will take longer than what he had learned in his life.

That is fine with me.

I will learn and master Haki on my own. There was enough information on training Observation and Armament Haki in the series for me to experiment with.

Looking at the materia and database options I am certain I do not have anything available for them for them at the moment so I click on the Shop options.

A week of trying to feel something in the air in the body and blood i felt something inside me and all around me i named it mana like the novels i read 
I also explored the 5km around the tree and killed 3 more of the magical beast with the attributes of wind water and even earth but for some reason i only see the magical beast 5km away
