When they got close enough, their mother beamed at them all and gave them a quick hug
"Oh, my babies are all grown up!!"
"Mum!!!"
All three of them squirmed in their mother's hold and tried to get out of the hug. They didn't want their friends seeing them like this.
Once they finally managed to get free, Zero was led over to an open field in front of the house. There was a giant orb that was made of glass placed in the middle of the field.
Inside the orb, various colors swirled and mixed together, they all formed a beautiful image that would make anyone gasp in awe.
Zahir knelt beside zero once he got close to the orb and said:
"Okay Zero, I want you to listen to me. You don't have to stress much over all this because I will be proud of you no matter what happens. Just do your best, okay"
Zero nodded to his dad and moved forwards alone towards the orb.
The orb was known as the Selector. It had the uncanny ability to detect innate magic within children and bring out what branch of magecraft they were most in tune with.
There were six forms of magic that the orb would recognize, they were
Fire magic; which the orb would recognize by bringing forth a red color. This magic was known to be the best for offensive spells.
Water magic; which the orb would recognize with a blue coloring. This magic was known for being the best for healing spells.
Earth magic; which the orb would recognize by showing a brown coloring. This magic was known for being the best for defensive spells.
Wind magic; which the orb would recognize with green coloring. It was known for being the best for rebuff spells
Light magic; which the orb would recognize with a yellow coloring. It was known to be the best for negation spells.
Dark magic; this would be recognized with a black coloring. But there wasn't much known about it, because only one person had ever gotten it before and he had disappeared a long time ago.
Zero hoped he would get something grand like fire magic, or even light magic. It had been his dream to find out his affinity forever.
While on the road during his former trios he never got a chance to find his affinity, he simply tried his hand at everything he could and tweaked them to suit him better.
His cultivation and sharp mind had allowed him to never bother about whether or not he was using a spell correctly. All spells just seemed to work for him...
He was just grateful he had sealed his soul before this test. 
[You're sure you should do this Zero? I still don't think this is a good idea at all]
Bezel had been against Zero performing the test from the very first told him about it.
He didn't know what sort of reaction the orb would have towards someone with such... Special circumstances.
'You don't have to worry about that bezel. I'm sure everything will be fine. I mean, what could go wrong?'
[Famous last words], Bezel muttered
Zero ignored his cheeky hanger-on and walked straight up to the orb. He placed his hand on it and channeled a small portion of his soul power into it.
The orb was able to tell the affinity of a person by absorbing thirty percent of their soul power. It was generally known that children don't have much soul power.
Children at most have 500 units of soul power, and the orb was calibrated with the thought in mind that the amount of soul power it would be absorbing would not exceed 200 units.
And that, was where the orb's crafters fucked up.
KAABBOOOOMMM!!
The orb which had been calibrated only to absorb 200 units of soul power from an untrained child was incapable of withstanding the sheer force of Zero's soul power - which, even when sealed, still possessed the full weight of a top cultivation expert.
What greeted all the guests there was the explosion of a three-thousand-year-old relic in the hands of a child.
Every single person there was stuck with mouths agape and shock written all over their faces trying to comprehend what exactly was going on.
[Wow. I wonder who could have predicted such a turn of events] 
The smug voice of bezel rang through Zero's head.
'Not now Bezel!' Zero screamed internally.
He listened to the crowd murmur about what just happened
"Has this ever happened before?" someone asked
"Of course not. That globe was made by some of the kingdoms best mage crafters!!" another person exclaimed.
"But isn't he too strong?"
"Or perhaps the globe is broken?"
These were some of the words that were reaching zero. 
He turned to his parents and saw they were just as shocked as everyone else. Well, at least his mother was shocked - his father meanwhile.
"Oh my goodness! That's my boy!!!"
"!"
Everyone was surprised by Zahir's sudden shout, but he paid them no mind, he  ran up to Zero and carried him above his head
"That was amazing! Did you see that honey!? The globe couldn't even read him!!"
Zahir turned to his wife with an expectant look, which made her snap out of her shock and move towards the pair along with her other two sons.
She could gawk about the damage done to such a relic later. Her son needed her right now.
"Of course honey," Lucy said as she smiled to Zero, "I couldn't believe it myself"
"Yeah Zero!! Don't feel bad about breaking the -- Ow!!"
Hiro held the back of his head in pain and Loki brought his hand back while smiling at Zero
"Shut up you moron" Loki whispered to Hiro.
Zero simply stared as his family tried their hardest to cheer him up from what they saw as a simple mistake.
He knew this was no mistake, it was all due to his stubbornness and inability to listen to advice. If only he had listened when Bezel told him what could happen with his soul power, this would have never happened.
'But why in the world would something like this even happen! I sealed my soul for this very reason!!'
Zero was livid at himself, both for not listening to advice and for not properly comparing his soul power to those of lesser beings.
He had transcended the realms of gods in his last life, so he should have accounted for that as well, and not just the fact that he was older than he is now.
'I just know this is going to bite me in the ass somehow' 
zero thought with a depressed cloud above his head.
"Amazing"
Someone spoke from within the crowd, and his voice was enough to make everyone there keep quiet and listen to him.

I had travelled through the five mountains and continents, gaining power at every turn and defeating opponent's who would dare to challenge me

All so I would never have to look back, all so I would never experience that pain again. But some stupid deity saw it as fit to place me in such a situation again!?

Well I don't care, because I'll make sure I change it all for my own selfish reasons. Watch out, I'm coming through!!

The pacing is quite slow at the beginning, so if you do not like such a thing then don't even bother going through with it. But if you do follow through, I'm sure you'll love it.

Quinn West hummed a jolly tune as he filled color in a picture book. Quinn enjoyed coloring the picture book. He did feel that the pictures were a little too simple for him, but he didn't mind as he remembered something as adult coloring books back in his old world, so of all the children activities Quinn did to play his part of a five-year-old, coloring was a one that he enjoyed doing.

Plus, he wasn't only filling color in the picture book but also practicing magic. Ever since the day he performed the anger-induced accidental magic, he had made some progress with magic and tried to improve it with a renewed vigor. Currently, he was sitting in front of a low table on the porch of his house in a lotus position (Indian style). If you sat beside Quinn, then you would be able to see a small glass bead(marble) moving wobbly in the space between his legs.

Quinn had made some progress with his magic and was able to move light-weight objects with moderate success. Like the small glass bead, he could move it continuously without a problem, but he wasn't able to move it smoothly or more make sudden sharp turns. You could say that while he was able to keep the bead in motion, his control of the bead was lacking.

The only thing he could do with magic was move objects. He couldn't do any traditional magic like transfiguration, charms, jinxes, or anything seen in the original work. Moving objects under a certain weight was exciting enough for Quinn. He would stay up late in the night, moving different objects in differents, trying to gain more control of his magic. Plus, another thing that Quinn considered to be an upside to playing with magic was the sleep at night.

It turned out that the magic core theory was true, magicals had magical cores, and the capacity depended on the amount of magic you used, so the saying, 'Magic is a muscle' was true. The more you used magic, the more magical capacity you would possess.

He had gotten this information from Lia, who was practicing magic at home, and Quinn was allowed to watch, so he 'innocently' asked if she could keep making those butterflies that she was making as transfiguration practice, and she explained about a magic core,

"Let's see, imagine there is a bowl of water inside your body, and the water is the amount of magic you can do. If you use all the water, then you won't be able to do magic."

Quinn decided to ask another 'innocent' statement, fishing for a reply, "I want to do a lot of magic and become a great wizard when I grow up!"

Lia giggled at her little brother and pinched his cheeks, "If you want to become a great wizard, then you will have to use magic every day because that way, you will be able to use more magic."

She had explained in words that a child could understand, and even though she had over-simplified the topic and left out a lot of important things, Quinn had understood the gist of it.

Now, what did all of this had to with sleep at night. It turned out that using magic caused some kind of fatigue, and because Quinn wanted to increase his magic core capacity, he was making sure that by bedtime, he had emptied his magic core, and that turned into some of the best nights of sleep of his life.

Quinn had also started putting in more work in things other than magic. He started to take the piano more seriously and increased his practice time.

Quinn knew that his math skills were higher for a five-year-old, but were his mental math skills top-notch? No, so while he still pretended to be just a bright five-year-old, but on the inside, he was training his brain to calculate faster.

Quinn realized that if he wanted to get better at French, he would have to immerse himself in the language, so he actively began seeking his grandfather to talk to him in French. Mostly their conversations were just Quinn speaking and George listening. George would correct Quinn if he made mistakes. On the written part of French, he used his weekly correspondence with Lia as practice, and when writing to her, he would write the same content in both English and French.

George also had Quinn start on calligraphy and made him practice his handwriting. It was a blessing that they didn't use uneven parchment paper and quill and used a fountain pen with normal paper. Quinn's motivation for working on calligraphy was because he thought George's handwriting was cool and wanted his to be the same.

But, not all subjects were fun to learn. There were other subjects that Quinn didn't find appealing.

He didn't like family history, so he just rote-memorized everything taught to him. There was no extra effort in family history from Quinn's side. Similarly, he felt stifled during the meals as he had to use the correct table manners at every single meal, and Quinn felt that he wasn't able to enjoy his meals.

Formal dancing was neither fun nor boring, but it was embarrassing to make mistakes while dancing with someone, so Quinn just made sure to learn everything carefully and not make mistakes. Quinn found that embarrassment could be a strong motivator for learning. Quinn put as much work in dancing as piano under this alternative motivator.

Quinn also witnessed that how grooming and nurture could change a person over time. He noticed that his way of speaking had changed, and he was using words that he never used before, plus the way he walked and sat also changed. He found that his back which had always found the backrest of a chair or sofa, now remained straight, away from the backrest.

Quinn understood that he was changing for the better, but it was still eerie to realize that he changed without him noticing the change.

(Scene Break - George West P.O.V.)

George West was a learned man. He knew the importance of education and knowledge and held them in high regard. He had expanded his family business by using the knowledge he gained from learning and experiencing.

He had been alive for a long time and knew about the importance of learning from mistakes and accepting failures, but he had learned it the hard way. He had let the death of his wife overwhelm him and made him forget about his son. He had made a mistake that had cost him his relationship with his son. He was fortunate that his son was willing to give him another chance and fix their relationship, but then tragedy struck again and claimed the life of his son and daughter-in-law, taking them away from their children.

When he got the news, it broke him. He and his son had just started to fix the crack in their relationship. Why did this tragedy have to occur to this family? He got this close to do the same as he had done many years ago and throw himself into work to avoid grief, but then he remembered about his grandchildren and made him realize that he couldn't let himself drown in misery and picked himself up for the sake of grandchildren. He wasn't going to make the same mistake as he once did.

He took his grandchildren under his care, and he knew that he was doing the right thing when he saw his granddaughter. When he saw Lia, he saw a young child who was about to lose her childhood by maturing too early. George took both of his children under his care and provided the parental support that they had lost. He made sure that Lia wouldn't have to worry about her baby brother alone and made sure that both of them would have a normal childhood.

He was able to connect with Lia fairly quickly, and even though she ended up developing a slightly mature outlook on life for someone her age, he knew that she would be just fine within a few years.

As she grew, George saw Lia showing interest in the family business, so he began mentoring her in the breaks. He was building a foundation for her, just in the case if her interest turned into something serious. He had to say, Lia had impressed him year after year. She always had top grades, the willingness to learn and apply herself. And, more importantly, she had the qualities of a leader. He would be willing to groom Lia as his successor if she committed herself to the family business.

On the other hand, there was his other grandson, Quinn. He was only a year old, and he didn't understand the meaning of death, and it hadn't affected him as much as his sister.
George was not sure how to describe this child. From what he could see, this child was the same as any other child his age, but since he had started his education, Quinn had proved himself anything but an ordinary child. He picked up things very quickly and would always complete his work without complaining.

Quinn's teacher praised him when he asked for Quinn's progress and complimented him for being the easiest student they had ever taught. Not only that, but they also lauded Quinn's learning ability. George wasn't surprised to hear the teacher's opinion as George taught Quinn both French and Family history, and he knew Quinn's capability. He knew that Quinn wanted to learn French and actively tried to get better at it. He also knew that Quinn didn't like learning Family history, and he could see the difference in the effort he showed while he learned French and Family history.

George knew that if Quinn had been a normal child, he would've made a fuss about learning something he didn't enjoy or even outright refuse to learn. But Quinn, despite not enjoying learning Family History, still learned it without any prompting.

But, the thing that stood out most to George was Quinn's interest in magic. Magic would always succeed in attract Quinn's attention. No matter if it was something as common as levitating cutlery to the dining table, or something flashy as sky-firework charms, everything made Quinn's eyes sparkle.

George noticed that every time he talked to Quinn, magic would always sneak into the conversation, and Quinn would especially active while talking about magic. He noticed that while children Quinn's age wouldn't stay in one spot for long, Quinn would always sit and patiently watch whenever Lia would use magic at home, or when West's manor's elf, Polly would clean the house using elf brand of magic, he would follow her all around the manor as she cleaned. Polly, who was a prideful elf, walked around the manor instead of apparating so that Quinn was able to follow her while she moved around the manor.

George had a hunch that Quinn would grow up to becoming a person who dwelled in the mysteries of magic or at least does something closely related to magic. And, even though it was absurdly early for talking about a child's future, George couldn't help but think that Quinn's future would be deeply related to magic.

George didn't want to decide his grandchildren's future careers. He wanted them to follow what they loved, which was evident as even though he was mentoring Lia, he wouldn't force Lia to take over the business. She would be allowed to leave at any time, and only when she gives full commitment would he seriously groom her for leading the family business.

Back to Quinn, George wanted to see his grandson's limits and how much Quinn could learn before leaving his direct supervision by enrolling in one of the magical schools. He began to replan his original plans for Quinn's education and development.

(Scene Break)

Another year had passed, and Quinn had used the past year very productively. He had increased the things he could do with magic. From making light-weighted objects move with limited control, Quinn had upped his capabilities. Over the year, Quinn had gradually found objects that weighed more and experimented and practiced with them. By the time he turned six, Quinn's control over objects had increased substantially.

The six-year-old still couldn't do anything more than move objects, but Quinn felt like he had pioneered the usage of magic in the area of push and pull. When Quinn mentioned that he could move objects, what he meant was that he could use different combinations of push and pull to make the object move.

In the case of Push, he could just apply a single push or apply a continuous push. The single push was akin to hitting a billiard(pool) ball with a cue stick or hitting a golf ball with a club. Whereas the continuous push was akin to pushing a trolley(cart) and apply force continuously to keep the object moving,

Pull was similar also push and had two types; the single yank or the continuous pull. The single yank was simply applying the pull just once, and the continuous pull could be a continuous pull force applied like a train engine pulling the carriages.

By using multiple combinations of these four types of forces at different powers, Quinn could do all kinds of things. It didn't provide total control like controlling a remote-controlled car, but with creativity and practice, possibilities were vast. He had attained a trickshot level of control and could control objects as long it was possible with push and pull.

There were limitations,

The range was a huge limitation. His current range was only five meters as he didn't know how to get his magic across that limit. He could reach any object as long it was within a five-meter radius with him as the center.

Another limitation was speed. The control deteriorated with an increase in speed. The faster the object, the less control Quinn had on it.

Focus also hindered Quinn's ability to do magic. Quinn found out that to be able to do magic which wasn't high-emotion-fueled wild accidental magic, he had to focus and maintain the intent of the action. So, while the single push and pull were simple enough as their focus time was short, but continuous counterparts were harder as Quinn needed to constantly think of the power, direction, where to apply force, and how to apply force. So, complexity was bad for Shun.

Then there was one problem that had caused Quinn a lot of problems, and it had taken a lot of willpower from Quinn to overcome. The problem was the bad habit of using hand gestures while using magic. While this habit had provided him with better control as gestures helped with focus, it made him think it was similar to wand moments, and that was against what Quinn was trying to accomplish. So, he tried to get rid of hand gestures, but it had taken everything from crossing his arms to sitting on his hands to put his hands behind the back to break that bad habit.

It took Quinn more than a month to get rid of that instinct to use hand gestures and another two months to get his control to the level provided with hand gestures. Now, Quinn could do the same things by just thinking about the execution of the magic.

Quinn's non-magical education was also coming along splendidly. He had gotten quite good at the piano, and formal dancing was also coming along marvelously. Quinn felt confident that he could dance in front of an audience without embarrassing himself and his partner. Quinn's calligraphy was still a work in progress because of his child's hands, and from his teachers' expressions, he could say that he was doing quite well.

But, things were about to change because two years after the day Quinn transmigrated, Quinn was ready to make a huge step in his pursuit of magic.

This novel is my escape from the burnout that I suffered from my other novel. I have no solid plotline planned, there will be no definite release schedule. The reason for me writing is to improve my writing skills, light my brain cells.

As you know that there are so many Harry Potter Fanfictions out there, it is the largest FanFiction community out there, and as I write this novel, I don't have anything in my mind that isn't already out there, but I am trying to create a piece of transformative work that would pick up ideas from that wide community and create a work that would be enjoyable to read.

Time to put my heart and soul into these rings. 
From what I think I want to make some rings out off Kulve Taroh horns and Kirin horns.
 Don't worry I have extra horns from chasing after different monsters and catching some rajang off guard and they drop the horns.

 Those fights against the rajang were the hardest probably because they were hangry. Trying to fight a monster that was enraged the whole time, just like a damn savage jho.

The only other parts that I would use would be silver ratholos and gold rathian scales for the rings. But then the rings would not have that metallic look and feel.

So the horns of kulve taroh work the best, I also personally just like look of them due to the other metals and gold that the horns are made off.


So I'm going to make a base ring off using kulve taroh horns on the outside, and kirin horn as the inlay on the inside so the rings will have a gold on out side and a light blue on the inside.

For the gem I want to put a diamond but that would not work. Only on Earth is a diamond worth so much here it I'd worth nothing. The reason being is because magic, magic gems are used in everything magic so they are worth alot more. 

The good thing about being in this world for so long is that I have gotten so many magic gems that I can't even count how many I have in my inventory.

Out of all the ones I have I'm just going with the two gems that look the closest to diamonds.

Hours later.

I have finally finished the rings, they came out better than I thought.

On the outside of the ring you have gold with blue, white, and turquoise coloring. Then the inlay is the light blue from the kirin horn. I made a design on the the rings on one side is a Eastern dragon and on the right side a western dragon.

Was going to put a Phoenix but I don't know which one to use so just 2 dragons to represent two extremes.

For the gem I used a gem that looks like a diamond and infused light and dark magic on the inside to be able to power the array.

For the array the 2 dragons would look like they came to life and have a magic attack at my max level if need be. Due to the light and dark magic fusing it looks like a yin yang sign in the center of the gem.

it's been 50 years since I was reincarnated into the monster hunter world. Time to raise some young hunters after I retire.

Just a random thought that popped into my head and I wanted to write it down.

This novel is about a man just enjoying himself away from the battlefield that is the MH universe. 
I will use powers from anime and manga, and travel to different worlds.

Fire elemental. Flame red. Strong, and hot tempered. Breath type fire. Is capable of possessing other elements, but has difficultly obtaining other elemental affinities due to temperament.
- Lava variant of fire elemental. When dragon also possesses Earth affinity.
-Fierce flame variant of fire elemental. When dragon also possesses air affinity.
Water elemental. Blue or blue-green. High health levels. Difficult to kill.
-Ice variant. Varies between blue, and silver, but can be a combination of both colors. May possess Air affinity.
-Nature variant. Often green in color with blue under scales. Possesses Earth affinity.
Air elemental. White or silver in color. Speed is strongest trait. Quick, and finicky creatures. Easily swayed. Low attack power.
-Rain variant. Light blue or silver in color. Possesses water affinity. Can influence the weather by creating or dispersing clouds.
-Light strike variant. White with gold rimmed scales. Possesses lightning affinity. High attack power combined with high speed. Highly inclined to use hit, and run assassination tactics.
Earth elemental. Brown or green in color. Patient. Nearly invulnerable. Slow, but damage dealing.
-Metal variant. Bronze or Gold in color. Possesses lightning element. Prefers to boost fighting power with golems animated by their lightning affinity.
-Sleeping giant variant. Grey in color. Can possess any other affinity. Relies on heavy damage resistance while doing damage with all affinities. As the name suggests this beast is not very active. Spends most of its waking years gorging itself to grow to a large size, and the rest sleeping. Often underground. Nearly undetectable when sleeping. Can use affinities while in deep sleep.
Lightning elemental. Silver or gold in color. Similar temperament to that of the fire elemental. Highly magic oriented fighter. Does not play well with others. Lightning affinity is rare as a primary element. All other variants fall within the unique classification.
Unique Variants. Dragons possessing 3 or more elemental affinities. Temperament, and coloring varies greatly depending on affinities. All ruler class dragons possess a minimum of 4 elemental affinities.

Dragons have rulers? That's interesting.
"Wyatt," Ethan knocked me out of my stupor, "Class is over. Lets head back."

I stood up, and yawned slowly as I stretched.
"Yeah," I took the lead as usual.
If I was going to have the mentality of a little kid until I ranked up I needed to level up. Evolving into a youngling, and learning what breed of dragon I was would definitely be a bonus. Maybe my temper would be easier to control as well. I already have an Air affinity, and a water affinity. I would probably become an Ice variant.
Maybe that would make me a little cooler headed. Who knew. I certainly didn't. I was somewhat surprised the system had actually had an answer this time. I stopped thinking the rest of the way back to the room.
I just wanted to get out of this stupid human body, and stretch my wings. Maybe finish drying out my room. My water affinity definitely needed some more work done. I wanted to be a bad ass ice dragon, and if I'd read the description of each of the dragon types correctly then I'd need to get my water up higher than my air element. Speed was a nice bonus to being an air elemental but I wanted to be able to take damage as well as dish it.
Maybe both my eyes would change to be the same color. That cool blue was kind of awesome in it's own chilling way. I was kind of attached to the brownish gold of my old eye color, but I wasn't my old self anymore. Losing that last piece of my old self might help me move forward. I stepped into the room, and walked over to my room slowly.
Waiting for Ethan to come in, and close the door. Before heading into my room to do my usual afternoon change back. Stretching my wings leisurely as I moved the water in my room out of it slowly. Dispersing the water into the air slowly. I decided to play a little more once I was done since that had worked well to get rid of my anger.
I wasn't that angry, but I couldn't rage out in school anymore. I was strong enough to easily match one or two second years in berserker mode. Which meant I could take on a single second year at a time. If I kept loosing my temper so easily I would end up pissing off all the wrong people. As it was I had made the mistake of pissing off Baron.
My blood lust wasn't strong enough to affect people who were stronger than me just yet. It was a painfully useful skill. To literally project that murderous rage outward onto your enemies. I didn't want to win fights that way, but it was better than tearing apart enemies one by one. Once I got it up enough in levels I'd be able to finish off weaker opponents just by glaring at them.
Maybe I'd be able to glide next time I leveled up. I doubted I'd be able to fly just yet with how slow my wings were growing. Maybe I'd be able to glide. Then I could use the window to get out on my own. Sneaking out on my own was risky though.
The watch on my wrist would be a problem. It got dark around six every afternoon now. I could sneak out in the cover of darkness, but my light coloring was a problem. Could I alter my coloring? I finished up with cleaning up the water out of my room.
System can I alter my coloring?

Yes.

I could change my color. Might as well try it. I focused on that feeling I got when I used my physical camouflage skill. My scales rose slowly then went down slowly in a quick ripple. 

New variant of skill. Physical camouflage alteration. Color change. Full camouflage form alteration. Prey imitation camouflage forms unlocked. 

I looked down at myself. My scales were now a green, and brown color. I bounced up, and down out of excitement as I started flicking through different colors. It was a waste of mana, but changing my color didn't cost much mana, and it was fun. I yawned as I stopped bouncing in place, and jumped on the bed.

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. 
Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy.
It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

"Rin, dear, can you fetch me some strawberries from the garden?"
"Yes, Granny."
I took a deep breath of air. It was sweet and the sun was warm. A beautiful morning indeed. Sometimes I felt guilty since the other creatures scavenged and struggled while we were safe and warm. I tried not to linger on those thoughts. One thing I learned growing up is to move past negative thoughts. They get you nowhere.
I looked through the bushes to find the best berries and I gathered them in a bowl to bring to the woman. She was sweet and caring. She had a quirky and upbeat kind of personality. She was the kind of woman that as she was cleaning, she would stop and use her broom as a pretend microphone and sing in another language. She even would go all out on the body motions or start head banging while pretending to play a guitar. It was rather humorous. She caused us many laughs.
She lit some type of vanilla candle in the kitchen and brought us smoothies. 
"I know you are wolves, but I wanted to mix it up a bit. What do you think?" She smiled. I took a sip.
"Quite tasty! Thank you." I replied. Miku looked up, realizing he forgot his manners.
"Yes, Thank you Granny."
"You are very welcome my dears. Now, I need to head to the market. I need to get some coloring for your hair, Miku. If you are going to pass as my grandchildren for the time being, I need you to at least look human."
"What color?"
"I was thinking of matching your sister. Why, any color in mind?"
"Can I have black? Do you know if coloring my human hair will effect my wolf form?"
"No, I do not. I don't want you turning into a wolf to find out though. I don't know how your magic shifting stuff works, but I don't want you wasting my money on dye only for it to disappear from transitioning. You got that clear?" She smirked.
"Yes mam."
"Now, when you are safe again and able to leave, then you can turn. I am curious too, so when it is safe, don't leave me out." 
"Is my hair human colored?" I asked.
"Yes. In fact, my hair was brown when I was younger. Though you can't really tell now. Now my hair is just grey. It is natural, but only for old people like myself. Your brother is too young to be grey."
"We know older people become white or grey. We have seen it here and there back at home."
"I didn't know if you knew. How many elders did you have back at home?"
"One or two. The eldest wolf was originally black, but he greyed out. An old fox had become white too. She was only in her thirties though. She was a pretty little thing."
"Only in her thirties?"
"Yeah, she had very loud and active children." She laughed.
"I see. That makes sense."
"Did you ever have any?"
"Yes. With a beast man nonetheless. She was part wolf, an old friend of your mother's. You never met her. She left for another hybrid elsewhere. She had my brown eyes, with tannish-ginger hair."
"She sounds pretty."
"She was." She left the table and grabbed her purse. "I need to get going now though. See you guys shortly. Don't cause any mischief while I'm gone."
"Don't worry. We'll stay right here till you get back."

Walking slowly through the magical forest, I trail my hands behind me as I feel the plants on either side of this natural path I've found.

Surprisingly, my days here haven't been too dangerous. The only times my life was in danger was during all those confrontations with the magical creatures. Luckily, there haven't been too many of those and for the ones that did occur nothing was stronger than the second magic script shadow fox.

The weather has been nice and calm. No storms or severe weather have occurred during my time here.

But it just makes me wonder when will the imaginary ball drop?

Hopefully I'm near civilization when that happens. I haven't really built myself any shelter that could withstand any storms and my cloths aren't really styled towards harsh weather. Maybe I should work on that...

Last night I was finally able to generate light magic. Probably one of the hardest for me to generate thus far. And to be totally honest, I probably only managed to succeed last night due to the full moon. Unlike its opposite, shadow magic, which was easier to generate do to my battles with shadow foxes and being in a magical forest that produces lots of shade.

So with that discovery, the current magic types that I can generate are: water, fire, earth, air, plant, ice, lightning, shadow and light. A lot to be honest, but I can only do small to medium magical gestures size phenomena happen. Nothing large scale, like creating a storm or an earthquake.

The last five on my list are harder to generate then the first four. This makes me believe that those five are probably a higher tier of element then the other four.

Coming upon a meadow at the end of the natural path, I find a herd of jade green deer grazing. Judging by their coloring I'd have to say they either have wind or plant magic scripts.

In the middle of said herd, a massive buck with ivory antlers was grazing. When suddenly, it snaps it's head up right and turns to look straight at me. A pink magic script appears around it's head like a crown and all the surrounding jade deer lifted their heads to look at the massive buck. After looking at the massive buck, their eyes started to glow red and they felt more aggressive then earlier. Almost like they were possessed.

The massive buck kept staring at me the entire time and let out a sound that no deer should make. Goose bumps covered my entire body through the duration of the sound, locking me in place. 

The group of small jade deer turn towards me as one and began a stampede in my direction.

Giving me no time at all to think about what was happening, I turn around and run through the magical forest like my life depends on it. 

Because it literally does.

An Gyeon was a great artist. Even those who were not as knowledgeable about the old Korean art, they would be aware of his name. Unfortunately, only a few things about him were known. Even the years of his birth and death were not clear.
"Did you really expected me to not know who Ju Gyeong is?" Haejin asked.
On the top side of the painting, there was An Gyeon's art name and the words 'Cheong San Ah Ah Baek Un Yu Yu'.
It just meant the mountains were high and the clouds were far away, but as the writer's art name was Ju Gyeong, anyone who knew about Korean art would have guessed it was An Gyeon's painting.
"So? What is this painting about?" Hadake asked back.
"It is An Gyeon's Cheongsanbaekundo*."
Records left by the people of Joseon says An Gyeon left around 50 paintings. People of his time picked Cheongsanbaekundo instead of Mongyudowondo as his greatest painting, probably to avoid mentioning his connection with Prince Anpyeong*.
"Hmm…" Ando Hadake's gaze became deeper.
"Aren't you curious about whether I know the answer? Or are you just worried about me getting the right answer?" Haejin scolded him. 
Hadake then sighed and shook his head, "Hu… that's how gambling always is. Before you show your card, all kinds of schemes and plots happen, and your opponents are eager to devour you. If you show weakness, you get eaten even before showing your card. I'm a samurai who's been testing my fate in gambling all my life. You are mistaken if you think you can make me worried with such bluffing."
"You talk too much. So, you cannot bet with An Gyeon's painting?" Haejin asked.
"I cannot do anything about Mongyudowondo. The president of Tenri University has old connections with the Liberal Democratic Party, so if I try to make a move on such a man who is at the center of power, the entire gang will be shaken." Hadake seemed to mean it. 
Haejin smiled and spoke as if it was nothing, "Well, okay then."
He turned back to the painting and examined it carefully. 
Then, he slowly opened his mouth and said, "I've seen this painting before. Do you know Keijo Art Agency?"
Hadake pretended to be calm, but his shaking eyes showed he was stirring on the inside.
"I've heard of it."
"You've only heard of it? You've never seen the catalogs of its auctions?" Haejin asked.
Keijo Art Agency was the biggest artifact agency in Korea under the Japanese rule. It was founded for auctions and to enhance relationships between antique dealers. It hosted auctions and made catalogs to lead artifact deals during the colonial era.
It was founded by the Japanese. By 1942, it had become the sixth largest auction agency after Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Kanazawa.
As it had been such a huge auction agency owned by the Japanese, Ando Hadake had to know more about it.
"There are more than one or two catalogs for me to see. It's not like I'm a scholar, why should I memorize catalogs of an agency that existed decades ago?" Hadake replied.
"Huh! How funny. Well, okay, I'll believe you. Anyway, I've seen this painting on one of Keijo Art Agency's catalog," Haejin continued.
"That is why this painting is fake? That's not an answer."
Haejin replied, "You should hear it to the end. When I saw that catalog, this signature and words were not on the painting. It was just a drawing. And then, these words suddenly appeared? It is impossible to explain unless it is fake."
However, Hadake easily countered, "That isn't enough. The evidence must be objective. Your claim means nothing unless you can bring that catalog."
He wasn't wrong, but if Haejin had been at some other place, his argument would have been accepted.
Other people, of course, would have looked into that catalog.
Maybe Ando Hadake thought Haejin would easily find out that much. However, he had shown that painting because Haejin couldn't come up with objective proof right on the spot even though he knew it was fake.
As like with western paintings, it is not easy to discern a fake eastern painting, even if you are an expert.
Additionally, it is extremely difficult to come up with objective evidence so quickly without any scientific tool.
That was the reason why Ando Hadake betted his own life on the game.
Haejin frowned. He needed an answer, but he couldn't spot anything.
So, he started to examine the painting carefully again.
If only he could use his magic… 
"How strange, with your hands tied, you cannot say anything just like Samson without his hair," Hadake commented.
"Shut up and just wait."
"Hhhh… I should have had someone cut your fingers long ago. How funny," Hadake continued to talk.
Haejin got impatient. It was probably because of the gun in Hadake's hand.
Actually, he could free his hands anytime since he had casted a strength spell on himself.
However, he would lose the game the moment he moved his fingers to appraise.
"I'll give you ten minutes. It would mean nothing to wait for more," Hadake then said.
"…"
Haejin wanted to say he needed more time, but he didn't. It wasn't because it wouldn't help, but because he didn't want to spend precious time on quarreling as he knew Hadake wouldn't grant his request.
One minute, two minutes… after about five minutes, he realized the coloring wasn't right.
There was a part painted with aleurone and deep-color pigment which was not often used at the time but frequently seen in Buddhist paintings of the Goryeo period. He could see there was a tiny gap between the paint and the paper.
He forced his excited heart to calm down and stared at that part.
"One minute left. If you haven't found anything, tell me your last words. Maybe I will deliver it to your lover."
Haejin shook his head and looked up. Then, he smiled while saying, "I'm afraid you're the one who should say the last words."
"What?"
Haejin continued, "The coloring has been tampered with. It used great skill, but not good enough to fool every expert. It was hard to find only because the painting is so old that the lack of skill was covered."
It was strange. Haejin thought if it had been before he got his magic, he couldn't have found that out.
He could now judge if the artifact was real or not instinctively after he learned magic, and unlike before, his concentration and observation had improved greatly.
He felt like he had become a genius. If it had been before, he would have failed to notice anything was wrong.
Even though you have great knowledge, you cannot use it properly without enough experience.
"What's wrong with the coloring?" Hadake asked.
Haejin explained, "The forger put in the writing to make it An Gyeon's painting, but he didn't have enough space to write words. Additionally, as the painting had been damaged a lot, he overpainted some parts to restore it, but he wasn't good enough."
"Restoration can be done afterward. That isn't enough to conclude this painting as fake," Hadake objected.
"No, no. You are not understanding. He made a mistake as he overpainted and wrote over it. That is why I noticed it," Haejin replied.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Hadake asked.
"If you cannot believe me, I will show you."
Haejin walked to Hadake and smiled.
"Huh?" The moment Hadake looked at him with confusion, he ripped off the bind and snatched the gun.
It happened so quickly that Hadake lost his gun without even resisting.
"Uuh…"
Haejin smiled, grabbed the gun's body, and smashed the glass that contained the painting with it.
Crash!
The glass was shattered to pieces. Hadake and his men wanted to go to the painting, but they hesitated because of the gun in Haejin's hand.
"What have you done?" Hadake couldn't get up from his wheelchair. He waved his hands in anger, but then, Haejin got rid of the glass pieces and lifted the painting.
"I'm supposed to show you objective proof, right? Please understand as it was to show that evidence. Oh, and I'll keep this for a while. Please understand that too," Haejin scolded him while shaking the gun. 
Hadake crossed his arms and said, "Fine, then explain."
Haejin smiled and brought some water. He took a sip and spewed the water on the painting.
Hadake's men wanted to lunge at him again, but Hadake stopped him.
"Stop, it's fine. You must pay for the painting if this painting is real. You know that, right?"
"Of course. I will pay you 5 billion won if the painting is real."
Haejin easily betted 5 billion won and brought a small knife from the kitchen. Then, he started to carefully scratch the painting when it was completely soaked with water.
Now, Hadake came to watch what he was doing.
It wasn't easy to scratch the painting's surface.
The paper could get ripped at any time, so scratching only its surface was extremely difficult, but Haejin did it calmly without even the slightest tremor in his hands.
It was only possible because he had perfect control over his body, and it was also the power of magic.
Time passed. Hadake couldn't press Haejin anymore, probably because the gun was now next to Haejin. A drop of sweat appeared on his forehead when Haejin finally straightened his back.
"What do you think? Funny, isn't it?"
Surprisingly, when Haejin scraped off the aleurone and deep-color pigment, part of the writing was damaged.
It meant the writing had been added after the overpaint was done, and it meant An Gyeon hadn't written it himself.
"Hmm…" Hadake wasn't sweating because it was hot. He wasn't doing any exercise, either.
He realized that he had trapped himself in the game he made while he watched Haejin working.
"It was smart, though. I was actually a little nervous. Is it time to finish this?"
Haejin picked up the gun again. Hadake closed his eyes. He was accepting his death, so Haejin was quite surprised.
Such a greedy person giving up life so easily was certainly surprising.
"Why aren't you shooting? Are you afraid of killing?" Hadake asked.
Haejin had burnt men to end their life. Shooting with a gun didn't scare him. However, he thought for a moment and lowered the gun.
"Enough. I know what you're up to, so get rid of that disgusting expression. But I have one question."
Hadake was surprised at Haejin's decision.
"What is it?"
"Tell me a secret of Tenri University's president. Then I'll leave. I don't care if you kill yourself or not."
Hadake's face turned red. He clenched his fists as if he had just been insulted, but he still wanted to live. He then made his men leave.
"Is it to get An Gyeon's Mongyudowondo back?"

*Cheongsanbaekundo means Painting of Green Mountains and White Clouds.
*Prince Anpyeong, Prince Suyang, and King Munjong were all sons of King Sejong. After King Munjong passed away and his young son Danjong became the king, Prince Suyang forced him to give up the throne. Later, he killed both Danjong and Prince Anpyeong. Mongyudowondo depicts the scenery that Prince Anpyeong saw in his dream. He then summoned An Gyeon to have him draw the dream.
