Who wears a white bikini under a black dress? I question myself.
I show her no reaction, actually, I am too tired to show my spirit of enthusiasm or anything right now. "I know you love it." She sultrily purrs and rubs her ass on my crotch. I close my eyes, tell myself that I need this, maybe if I force myself I can break from the bond dumped by the Moon.

I mentally facepalm myself as I now notice, her hair is no more straight, they are sticking on her face and flying everywhere while she moans flashily and jumps on my crotch like it is a trampoline. What is she, George from the Jungle?
I instantly hold her hips to stop this stunt before she hurt my soldier. Alex lowers her head to my neck and sniffs me noisily, "You smell so good Alpha." And she starts to lick and kiss the area between my neck and shoulder.
Well, she smells like an Ostrich's egg.
I mildly laugh at Dakota's comment. My wolf didn't like her from the start. Also, she is using too much saliva, it's dripping over my neck. Frustration takes over me and I toss her off of me.
*Thud*
I hear a loud noise, I sit up and look towards the sound and see Alex on the floor rubbing her ass. "What the hell Alpha!" She wines as she rubs her ass. This time I literally facepalm myself. This was really a bad idea. I should have never called her.
"Alex, go to your room." I command her in my Alpha tone so she doesn't question my mercurial decision. I just want to be left alone. 
Am I not into girls now? Am I really turning into gay?
I hear the door shut. Relief rushes to my bones, I feel more relaxed now. I push down all the walls in my head and close my eyes as I wait for Dakota to shout at me, to tell me how of a slut mate I am.

"FOR THE easy round, we have a tie result. CEA and CSA. Let's give them around of applause." says, Mrs. Ramos, the head of all English instructors. Nagsipalakpakan naman ang mga kapwa ko estudyante.


"Let's now continue to the next round," said Mrs. Ester. One of the instructors in AB English. Siya raw ang gumawa ng questions sa medium round, ani Ms. Dora kanina. 


Nakaupo na si Ms. Dora at laging sumusulyap sa gawi namin ni Brent. Curve line kasi ang formation namin. Pero halos isang metro ang agwat. Nasa pinakadulo ako at si Brent. kaya naman mapapasulyap ka talaga. Mabuti na lang crush, inspirasyon kita hindi pa distraksyon. Kung nagkataon, naku baka kulelat ako dito.


We can do this crush. Napangiti ako sa naiisip. Para na yata akong buwang dito. 


Si Ms. Dora naman, kanina pa nang-aasar ang mga tingin. Akala pa nito boyfriend ko si Brent, napakalaking SANA gano'n nga.

Napayuko naman ang babae. Kasi ma'am nasa iba ang tingin at isipan. Sa buong duration ng quiz, panay ang tingin nito kay Brent. Hindi na nga siya pinapansin. 'Buti pa sa Law may isa kahit papaano.

Naglakad si Mrs. Ester papunta sa table nila Ms. Dora. Ibinigay nito ang mic. "You will have three minutes before we start for the third and final round."


Naupo naman ako at nag-scroll scroll lang sa google. Ilan sa mga nabasa ko rito ay nasa mga questions nila. Hindi rin malabo na pati ang last round ay makikita rito. Though, matagal naman na akong nakapag-review. 


"Let's begin the final round, which is the difficult one. But if you review and had a wide understanding in English Literature, this would be just easy as counting one, two, three. "Let's give again a round of applause to Ms. Mostoles and Mr. Chadwick. Wait for further announcement about participating to Singapore. I think only one will be choosen to represent our school." Ani Ms. Dora. "And for your rewards, please wait for my texts until afternoon. It's a surprise. Of course, it would be exclusive for the winners only." She smiled.


"Awwwwww!" hiyaw naman ng mga estudyante.

Liam's perspective: 

Kevin: The flight was delayed so I asked if she was jogging. She said she'd been up all night writing so she was just going to go back to sleep and told me to do the same.  So I did till Tom called to tell me Mark had contacted Willow again, and then Mick was calling me to tell me Willow had taken off. She's been on me to jog and god damn it I wish I would have listened. I saw her for a split second near one of the bridges, and then again getting into a taxi. I tried. I fucking ran as hard as I fucking could. 

He slams his fist on the table before rubbing his face and looking back towards the window. 

Kevin: I couldn't catch up. Tom called to tell me she was still in the park. I argued with him that I just watched her fucking disappear. So he sends me the coordinates and that's where I found her phone under the railing of the bridge. As soon as I opened it the picture of my sister in law and niece popped up.  Willow had saved it and left it on so I would know. This is all my fucking fault. I shouldn't have taken her there. 

My heart was pounding out of my chest. My eyes blurred with tears as I slammed my fist against the window frame. I take a few minutes to compose my self. 

Liam: It's not your fault. She would have never allowed you to leave New York with out visiting family. You mean something to her which means they mean something to her. So what then. 

Kevin: While Karl rushed back to his place to make sure they were all safe. I traced the taxi to the garage and found out he had dropped her off at Grand central train station. The driver said some tall white guy with blue eyes gave him a shit load of cash to pick his girlfriend up from the park and drop her at the station. Said it was a surprise for her. Not one person remembers seeing her. Finally we got a break when Benny had located street footage of her leaving the station to get into another Taxi. But the numbers didn't match any taxi in service. The garage that use to have that Taxi said it had been sold in an auction. It hasn't been registered so all we have now is a few street views of the Taxi heading towards the Hudson area. Benny will find him and then we'll find her. 

He stands to leave but pauses just before he gets to the door. 

Kevin: She reminds so much of my Ellie. I may have failed her as a father. But I will not fail Willow again. 

The door slams shut and I allow the tears to fall. After some time had passed I finally gave into the exhaustion and laid on the bed with her phone still in my hand. Seeing the picture of Loki and I that I had sent this morning made me realize I had left with out thinking about poor Loki. I pull my phone out and shoot a quick text to Mary my cleaning lady that still comes once a week. 

Liam: Mary, had to go out of town. Can you stop by and feed Loki once a day please. 

Mary: Si Mr. O'Bryan. Is everything ok. 

Liam: It will be. Thanks Mary. 

I toss my phone aside and open Willows messages. The photos of Karl's family are all Thats under his messages to her. I look closely at the photo of the wife and baby. Of course Willow would risk her own life to save an innocent child. She still struggles with accepting that she couldn't have saved hers. She fights like hell to keep her demons away and knowing her she sees this as a chance to repent. 

Liam: You stubborn beautiful fool. 

Curiosity gets the better of me as I open up her notes to read what she was working on last night. "From the ashes". The title read. Half way through the first chapter and I realized it was our story. From the moment we first met to having coffee just outside the church. She was writing our story. I swiped further up to the story just before this one I didn't know about. "A Bounty's love". There was something eerie about how similar the character Kylie and Max was to Willow and Brett. I've often felt there was more than verbal abuse but I never pushed her to tell me. Wanting to be connected to her right now I decide to keep reading till my eyes refused to stay open. 

A pounding on the door has me shooting out of bed like there's a fire. 

Tom: Liam we gotta move. 

I open the door to find Tom and Kevin fully dressed and ready to go. 

Tom: We found the second Taxi.

I looked down realizing I was still dressed. I ran back grabbing my phone off the bed and met them in the hall. The guy Moa was waiting in the SUV out front. 

Liam: Where's everyone else. 

I asked as I jump in the back with Tom. 

Tom: Bennys back at head quarters using the surveillance room to search through street cameras in hopes to pick something up. He'll be our eyes once we do get our lead. Karl is staying with his family just in case. The twins are on stand by. 

He hands me an I.D with my picture on it. 

Liam: Eagle eye security # 19900408

I look at Tom with question. 

Tom: Congratulations you just became an honorary employee of Eagle Eye. Makes what may or may not  happen during our time here in New York some what less illegal. Plus now if you decide to come aboard for real you already have your ID. 

I chuckle at the thought. I love being a fireman. But this would be an opportunity to be there for Willow more. To schedule my jobs around her book signings and awards and what not. 

Liam: Thanks. 

We stop outside an apartment complex north of Harlem. 

Kevin: There's the cab. 

Right out front. Taxi number 3.  Tom looks at me with concern. 

Liam: What. 

Tom: Can I trust you in there. 

I nod. Tom and I head in alone while Kevin goes around back and Moa stays in the car. We get up to the third floor and find #308. With every thump of Toms knuckles on the door my heart palpates. The thought of being closer to finding her has my palms sweating. My nerves are in overdrive. Feeling like a racehorse cooped up in the gates eager to bust through that starting line. There's a loud crash of pots and pans from inside. Tom and I look at each other and both kick at the door at the same time. An image flashes past the open window above the kitchen sink. Tom walks to the window casually and peaks down below shaking his head in laughter. I lean out to see what is so amusing and join in the laughter. 

The scrawny Indian cabbie is caught on the bottom rail of the emergency steps by his belt with Kevin standing a couple feet away with his arms crossed and a wide smirk. The cabbie looks up at us in fear. 

Cabbie: Please sirs, I swear to you I'll pay the money back to Mr. Santino tonight. 

Tom: Well since were already here why don't we save you the trouble. Hey Kev want to help our friend out. 

Kevin gives the guy a boost. Once his belt comes free he turns and slowly climbs back up the escape. I can't help but laugh silently at the smirk on Toms face. 

Liam: Any one know who this Santinos guy is?

Tom: The guys have talked about him, guess he's some modern day god father. 

As soon as the cabbie climbs back through the window Tom and I grab him and shove him down in a chair. 

Cabbie: Please I swear. I just came into most of the money yesterday. All I needed was one more good fair and I would have all of it. Please. 

Tom: Look Mowgli...

Cabbie: My name is not Mowgli. 

Liam: You sure as hell can't jump like Mowgli. 

I snickered.  

Tom: Look Punjab, we aren't here for Santino's money. We need to know where you took the woman you picked up at the station yesterday morning. 

He looked between us confused. 

Cabbie: You're not Santino's men. 

Tom: No we ain't. 

Cabbie: What is this information worth to you. 

The nerve of this guy. Even though he said it with a cracked voice he had a lot of balls asking. Before Tom could say another word I had the guy by his throat lifted inches off the ground. 

Tom: The information we seek Mr. Shah is worth more than your life. And if you value yours I suggest you comply. 

He blinks his eyes taping on my wrist. His life literally in my hands. It's not till he begins to struggle and Tom speaks my name that I release him. He falls to the chair gasping and coughing. 

Tom: The woman you picked up from Grand central yesterday morning. 

Mr. shah: I had a couple fares yesterday from Central. I'm afraid you need to be more specific. 

Liam: 5'5". Long black silky hair, eyes as blue as the sky. 

Tom: A man paid you to pick her up. 

Mr.Shah: Yeah. I know the one. Some tall white guy looked like he walked off the set of that old show E.R. Paid me cash to pick up a woman matching your description. Said it was a....

Tom: Surprise for his girlfriend. Yeah we know. Where did you take her. 

Tom yelled in frustration.  

Mr.Shah: West 184th street and Broadway parking garage. 

He spat out in fear. 

Tom: How much more you need to pay off Mr. Santino?

Mr. Shah: $200. 

Tom tosses four bills on the cabbies lap and walks out of the apartment, immediately calling Benny with the address as we meet Kevin back in the car. Half way to our destination Benny calls Tom confirming the Taxi arrived at West 184th street and Broadway parking garage, with a passenger fitting Willows description at 8:37am yesterday morning. As we arrive at the garage Tom gets another call. 

Tom: You're sure. 

He lets out out a huff of frustration as he hangs up and turns to me. 

Tom: Any camera footage from inside the garage between 8:30am to 10:am yesterday was blacked out. Benny can't recover any of it but he's working on street footage hoping to catch a lead. 

The thought of coming so close to finding her and hitting a dead end strikes fear in my already terrified heart. Three of us scour the garage in search of clues. Tom goes to the main level to talk with security in hopes of finding someone who may have seen something. Hopelessness weighs heavier with every minute that passes. Everyone meets back at the SUV in defeat. Accept for Kevin who joins us a few minutes later waving a piece of paper. 

Kevin: It's not much but it's proof she was here and that it's him. 

I yank the paper out of his hand.

''Is she that eager to know about my honeymoon?'' Leena grumbled.
''Leena! How are you!'' As usual with her high pitch voice, Reese screamed, stomping into the room. 
''Even the lazy neighbors will brush their teeth and get dressed hearing your loud voice,'' Leena muttered, getting up from the bed.
"Woah. Your face is radiating like a brilliant twilight now,'' Ignoring Leena's remarks about her voice, Reese scanned Leena's body until it landed on her slender neck. Reese gasped, glancing at the purple bite marks, which are yet to fade away. ''Is my prince charming that great in bed?''
''Brother for you.'' Hitting her shoulder with a pillow, Leena stomped into a walk-in-closet to wear a dress that could cover that beast's bites.
''I will rather die than call him my brother.''' Reese screamed to annoy Leena.
''Get ready to die in my hands.'' Wearing a dress that at least covered fifty percent of his nips, Leena walked out and settled in the bed.
''Did you guys do it?'' Reese asked in excitement.
''Lost the count also.'' Leena winked at Reese. Her face turned scarlet red when she recalled their first time.
''Ah! Why I am so happy.'' Reese giggled, clapping her hands in excitement. ''How was it? Did you enjoy it?'' Except for reading novels and hearing from Jane about it, Reese has no hands-on experience in that matter. Now, Reese got another friend joined into the list, but she remained the same.
Leena pulled Reese's ear and whispered. ''You should seriously try experiencing it.''
''You know that I only like him, right?'' Reese pouted. She doesn't want to have one-night stands with escorts when someone has occupied her heart entirely.
''Ah! How can I forget your first love?'' Leena sighed, shaking her head. Brother and sister have set eyes on only one person as if there are no male species in this world. ''Ummm.. Reese, can I ask you a question?''
''What?''
''What if Andrew already likes someone close to you?'' Leena probed.
''Is that someone my brother?'' Reese asked in a whisper.
''You know it?'' Leena's head started spinning. Almost everybody seems to be aware of their love-hate relationship except for her dumb husband.
''I have seen them moving intimately once.' Reese occasionally goes to her brother's condo to meets him, but it was an excuse so that she gets to see Andrew since he lives by the next door. Once, she visited him unannounced, and her heart shattered on that day when she saw Andrew and her brother in a bed fighting with each other intimately. From then onwards, she stopped going to that place. ''What do I do, Leena?'' Reese slumped on the bed with a hopeless sigh.
''Even I caught them in the bed redhanded once. But I am getting a hunch that Andrew is not into men.'' 
''Is it?'' Reese's hopes raised again. ''But we are not sure.''
''To find out, he is into men, or women, we have to execute a mission,'' Like a detective, Leena voiced her opinions and picked the mobile from the bedside table.
''I don't understand?'' Reese keenly looked at Leena's mobile to see what crazy Leena is up to, and to her surprise, she started messaging a number. Although Leena saved the contact with a weird name, the number will be at the back of her mind. Always!
 [Mowgli: Are you free tomorrow at 7 in the evening?]
Not before Leena put her phone down, the screen blinked with an incoming notification. ''He is pretty fast,'' Leena muttered, opening the message.
[Jurassic: Not accessible. I got a client. Why do you ask?]
Leena quickly sent another message.
[Mowgli: I want to have dinner with my brother]
[Jurassic: If my Jurassic asks, I can even bring bananas from heaven. Text me the address. I will be there in time]
[Mowgli: You brought glory to our bananas, brother. I will call you tomorrow evening. Bye.]
While they were chatting, looking at the names they call each other, Reese scratched her forehead. Mowgli, Jurassic? What kind of weird nicknames they are calling each other.
Leena put down her phone and looked at Reese with a triumphant smile. ''He is coming tomorrow.''
''But what are you going to do?'' Reese still didnot understand Leena's plan.
Leena explained her secret plan to Reese on how she is going to accomplish the mission tomorrow.
''Do you think it will work out?'' Reese's face brimmed with happiness, hearing Leena's plan.
''Trust me. Leena will not fail in her missions.'' She winked.
''Thank you, Leena.'' Reese hugged her friend and talked with her for a while before going to her condo.
In the meantime, Leena prepared dinner for Devin. By the time he arrived home, Devin was exhausted to the core due to hefty work at the office, and right after dinner, he hit the bed. ''He looks like dead tired.'' Leena copied Devin's action, kissed his forehead like he always did, and slipped into the blankets. The moment she snuggled closer, his hand automatically wrapped around her waist despite he was in deep slumber already ''He is super cute while sleeping also.'' Leena played with his hair without disturbing his rest and sailed the sleep boat after her tiredness.

The following day Leena woke up, and to her surprise, Devin was not in bed. She checked for a note, and as expected, there was one at the bedside table. [I got urgent work at the office, sweetheart. Don't skip your breakfast. I have made all your favorites, along with the banana smoothie. Along with ingredients, I added my love to it]
''Hugs and kisses for my cutie pie.'' Leena kissed the note and shot out of bed to get fresh. Dressed, she strolled into the kitchen to savor the breakfast Devin made.

Twilight started, and Reese was pacing back and forth in Leena's office room, biting her nails and occasionally checking time. ''Leena, can you start already. He might have come.''
''For God's sake, he hasn't come yet! Can you stop bugging me, Reese? I am working.'' Leena yelled, getting back to work
But Reese's pestering didnot stop. Cursing at her friend, Leena got up and left for the hotel. As she walked towards the reserved, Leena spotted Andrew at the table.
"Andrew.'' Leena greeted him with a cheerful smile.
''After a long time.'' Andrew flashed a smile at her. ''How are you?''
''Crazy and getting crazier,'' Leena replied and settled in the chair.
'Right, normal is boring for you.'' He muttered, and both chatted for a while before the dinner was served. While eating, Leena looked around frantically, and at a corner, she found a woman sitting along with a man. Start of plan A: Test Andrew if he gets a reaction when he sees a woman.
Without further ado, Leena jumped into the action by kicking Andrew's leg under the table.
''Óww. Why did you_.''
Leena silently signaled him to look at the woman, her eyes pointing in a specific direction.
''Who is she?'' Andrew briefly gazed at the woman and turned his attention to the food again.
 ''No idea. But that woman looks sensuous,'' Leena was keenly observing Andrew's reactions not to miss any of his expression. ''Stop eating and look at her, Andrew. She is leaving now.''
Andrew turned his attention to the woman for a second and retreated his gaze onto the food. ''I saw her. Now what?''
''Did you look at her sexy back? Her day must be as lovely as her bigger butt. Can you handle it if it is big, brother? 
Andrew choked a mouthful of food, hearing Leena's blunt question. Did she really mean that? 
''Do you like them bigger or smaller?'' Leena questioned him again when she didnot receive any response from him. 
Andrew: '' '' 
''Stop talking, and eat your food, idiot.'' Andrew shoved a broccoli piece into Leena's mouth when he knew only food could control her. What's wrong with her today? Did she hit the wine bottle before coming here?
Done with plan A without satisfactory results, Leena shifted to plan B, and that is to see if Andrew is interested in men. Leena quickly looked around, and she found a scapegoat again. She kicked his feet under the table again and pointed her eyes towards a man sitting adjacent to them. ''Look at him, Andrew.''
''What is it this time?'' Andrew sighed and glanced at the fatty. He is not able to understand what's wrong with Leena today. Well, that is out of the question. Her behavior is never predictable at all.
''He is sexy, right?''
''What?'' How did that ugly fatty look sexy in her eyes. If Vincy had listened, his butt would be as black as a frying pan. As if he remembered something, Andrew cursed at himself for thinking about butts.
''Look at him, Andrew. His round butt is protruding even from the pressing seat. The man must have sat in sugar. That's the reason he must have got a sweet and juicy butt.'' Leena's eyes twinkled as she looked at Andrew's expressions. ''Which one do you like? Big and round or flat and square ones?''
Andrew threw the spoon on the plate furiously. He had enough with butts today. ''Why did you ask me to come here?'' 
''To have dinner with you,'' Leena replied innocently.
''Then why the hell are you talking about that butts? If you like that fatty's juicy butt, go and squeeze them. Why are you torturing me?'' Drew lost his temper and screamed at Leena without knowing the fatty man furiously looked at Andrew in his fury. 
Clenching his fists, Andrew apologized to the man and dragged Leena out of the hotel before that fatty comes to his head. ''I can't believe you have described that fatty's butt so poetically. Your husband would be thrilled to hear this. Let me call Vincy.''
Before Andrew could dial Devin's number, Leena snatched it in fear. ''I_I was joking, Andrew.'' If Devin comes to know about it, he will chop her into pieces. She was trying to test Andrew but didnot think the plan would backfire on her. ''Please don't tell him.''
Cooling Andrew's temper, Leena bid goodbye, making sure that he would not slip his tongue. Not before Leena stepped out of the elevator, Reese came rushing towards her. ''What happened? Is he_.''
''I need to make a deep analysis about him, Reese. Give me some time.'' With a sigh, Leena keyed in the password and walked into the home, leaving Reese in puzzles. She wished Andrew would not tell about the butt story to Devin. She would be a dead meet today if it reaches his ears.
 A box was lying on the bed as Leena entered the bedroom. All of a sudden, Leena remembered her mom asked to order books related to Cardio. To escape, Leena called Nick and went to meet her mom.
The moment Leena walked inside the house, she saw Margaret sitting on the floor with a big bowl of popcorn on her lap as she watched the Korean drama ''Except watching dramas, are you doing any other work, Meemaw?''
''Eating,'' Margaret replied without leaving her sight from the T.V.
''Yeah, you do that in time.'' Nodding her head, Leena looked around. ''Where is mom, and my Francy?''
''Your mom went to Francis's study room to check the books collections. As for your Francy, I didnot care to check on him.'' Margaret pulled Nick to the floor for a company.
''I will go and check on her.'' Leena stepped upstairs before casting an evil grin at Nick.
''Soon, I will turn insane,'' Nick muttered.
Leena held the box with one hand, and with the other, she pushed open the door of the study room. ''Mom, I brought the books you asked_.''
Her thoughts halted in the middle when she looked at the sight in front of her. Her mouth parted like an open fish, watching the beautiful picture of a man and woman in each other arms.

CHAPTER 29 

 

 Trapped 

 

 

 

 

 

While Andropov returned to where he had left his men with the prisoners his meticulous brain never stopped working. Practically he had resolved his following steps. The Russian had made up his mind: he had to eliminate the five hostages as they were the only ones who knew about the existence and location of the pyramid. He did not like unneeded bloodshed but in this case his priority was to secure the exclusivity of that knowledge until he could organize a well-equipped expedition to extract the golden treasure, find a safe storage for it while preparing the marketing cycle and make the sale inside a closed circle of prospective purchasers. For all these tasks Andropov could only trust his mentor and contact with the core of powerful former members of the Red Army and the KGB who funded and sponsored all his actions. That mentor was his brother Gennadi. He was glad he had not brought any of his men with him because he would then have needed to kill him afterwards. Getting rid of Meztler was part of the same logic. 

At one point he thought he heard a thud of uncertain provenance. Despite having trained all his senses to remain alert at all times the jungle vegetable mass absorbed and muffled the sounds. Andropov stopped to determine if the noises were continuing, but as he heard nothing more the Russian attributed them to some distant thunder and continued his march. In fact soon rain drops began to fall and filter through the treetops. It still took him half an hour to approach the site whose location was known by his sixth sense from his experience in walking through wooded areas. Andropov thought he should have already found one of his guards ambushed along the way so that a certain apprehension began to develop within him. But nothing prepared him for the spectacle that was exhibited before their eyes as he turned a corner. The bodies of his men were scattered around the clearing where he had left them. The vehicle was missing along with the hostages and the weapons of his militia. He turned one of the bodies and recognized Abdel, the Iraqi lieutenant who had accompanied him for ten years. Beyond were laying the two Afghan brothers who had fought with him against the Taliban; the rest of the bodies were of local men, whom he had carefully recruited and trained in recent months of underground performance after his disastrous defeats in Peru, Patagonia and Brazil. But Andropov noticed that one of the militiamen was missing, Ramon Jaramillo who had joined in El Salvador. 

Andropov´s rapid brain came quickly to a conclusion with two alternative possibilities: either Jaramillo was a traitor or he had been taken prisoner to obtain information from him under torture. In both cases the Russian could have dangerous men in his footsteps, who would presumably be aware of his search of the Mayan treasure. The fact that the hostages who knew the location and contents of the pyramid were alive only increased his concerns. 

Andropov resigned to leaving the bodies of his men unburied but realized he could not waste time. He prepared his gear and disappeared into the jungle. 

 Gervasio Guerrero entered the room without hesitation. He was carrying a wireless phone in his hand. 

“Don Jorge, Luis Gómez is on the phone.” 

“Thanks Gervasio. Stay here please.” 

“Mande! Oh yeah Luis! How are you? Do you have news for me?” 

On the other side of the line the caller gave a detailed account of everything that had happened. 

“Then the hostages are okay? Were you able to identify them?” 

Luis Gómez read the names of those rescued. 

 “And with respect to the kidnappers? ... All dead? ... Yes, yes, obviously except the man who tipped you off. But what interests me most is: Was among them a Russian named Andropov?” 

Then Jorge Chehab gave him a description of Andropov. 

“No, Don Jorge. What this man Ramon Jaramillo tells me is that the Russian had gone with another gringo, apparently a German with a camcorder and other items that had been taken from the hostages. You want me to devote right now to look this Andropov through the jungle?” 

“No, Luis. In the first please take the hostages to safety. I would like these people to visit us at our home in Mexico City. Please tell them that if they accept our hospitality we can pick them up in Cancun. We would rent a plane and Gervasio Guerrero would go to bring them. Do you remember Gervasio?” 

“Yes indeed, he was one of my men when I was in the Federal Police. One of the best I had. Well, I'll do this: when I meet the freed hostages I'll call your home so you can make the offer yourself. Is that all right?” 

 “Excellent, Luis. Thank you very much for all you´ve already done. Later you can try to determine Andropov´s whereabouts.” 

 

The full Chehab-Cifuentes clan had gathered at the patriarch request . Jorge had already transmitted Luis Gómez´ news. 

“Oh no! That awful man has escaped again?” Said plaintively Teresa. “Aren´t we ever going to have peace in our lives?” 

“It´s not so bad.” Her husband tried to comfort her as usual. “You have to admit that Andropov is no longer the invincible warrior who more than once attacked us. He has suffered several defeats, and this time his whole gang has been decimated.” 

“But he remains a dangerous man with plenty of resources supplied by those who back him.” Objected Gonzalo Cifuentes, Teresa´s father; then he turned to Jorge Chehab demonstrating interest.” If I understood you correctly you said there is an Icelandic anthropologist in the group.” 

“I anticipated you'd be interested to talk to a colleague.” Replied with a laughter the father-in-law. “Oh! The closed circle of intellectuals.” 

“Cultural anthropology is rather distant from archeology, but both disciplines are linked in some way. You should also be interested.” Said Gonzalo addressing this time his daughter. 

Instead of answering his father Teresa asked Jorge. 

 “ Are they going to look after Andropov once they bring the hostages?” 

Jorge rose from his chair, kissed his granddaughter on her forehead and told her. 

“Yes dear. I promise you. But these people are no longer hostages. They are now our guests.” 

 

“Herr Wildau. We have found an interesting track. You need to come immediately to Mérida.” 

“Well Heinrich. Tell me in advance what is it about.” 

“It's about the only survivor of a group organized by a Russian named Andropov or so, and of which Metzler was part.” 

“All right. I'll be there in about …six hours. Go pick me at the airport and organize a meeting with the witness.” 

 

Andropov was still making his way amid the weeds that lacerated his flesh and tore what was left of his clothes. No one would have recognized in that human wreck the once powerful director of soldiers. He had spent three days wandering aimlessly through the jungle, with nothing to eat outside some roots and nasty bugs and drinking smelly water. Lucidity left and returned at times to his mind, but it was clear that he had to get lost in the depths of the jungle and survive while his track cooled down. But Andropov had no illusions, he knew he had made too many enemies in his life and his past was now coming over him. 

 

“Herr Wildau, meet Ramón Jaramillo. You, stand on your feet.” Ordered the man. 

“No, that´s not necessary.” Wildau said as he saw the exhausted man. “Please Mr. Jaramillo, all I want is to hear your story.” 

 

 “Sir, Wildau speaking. Sorry for calling to your private phone but I have important news. Metzler is with a Russian named Yuri Andropov, head of the contingent of irregulars that was decimated in the jungle. But both survived because they had gone to visit some kind of Mayan ruin. The important thing is that the two men have participated in the looting of our warehouse in Wewelsburg. The only survivor has given us clues about where they could hide as he has been long with Andropov. Apparently there is a refuge in the jungle ...” 

 

The hut was barely distinguishable from the plant mass and it had actually been built in order to go unnoticed in the woods. Andropov approached practically crawling and lay on a mattress from which he first had to expel numerous insects of all kinds. He drank a sip of muddy water from a pitcher that lay on a rustic table and then his body relaxed with the promise of security and slept. A flash crossed through his mind before vanishing. 

 “Did the traitor Jaramillo know about the existence of that hut?” 

 

The awakening was brutal, one of the raiders turned Andropov's body so that the flashlight dazzled his sight; between two men held him down and tied him to the edge of the bed while a third pointed him in the face with the barrel of his rifle. After a few moments of terror he succeeded to perceive in the partial shade of the doorway a figure that looked familiar; after a moment his mind became clear, it was indeed the traitor Jaramillo. 

Andropov was now paying a loose end he had left unattended. A man approached and spoke to him in Russian. 

“Yuri Andropov. I am Mr. Wildau. I have some questions to ask and let me clarify that it is in your best interest to answer them before we are forced to resort to certain methods...” 

“Bloody idiot! Do you really think you will be able to break me with torture. I am bearing them from Afghanistan on. There is nothing new that you can try on me.” 

Wildau did not flinch, and with a velvety voice simply said. 

“Branko. Come and show Mr. Andropov some of your Croatian specialties.” 

 

The assistant rapped and entered the spacious meeting room where the twelve assistants made silence. There he addressed the old man who was at the head of the long table. 

 “Sir, Wildau is calling. He says you 're waiting for his call. You want me to pass it to your private office?” 

“No thanks Atkins. Pass the call here.” 

Once the assistant called Atkins had left the room the man from the head of the table explained to the rest. 

 “Excuse me. I asked Atkins to interrupt the meeting if Wildau called. I'm waiting for decisive news.” 

Just then the phone rang and the old man put the speaker on. 

“ Wildau. We are in the plenary. Speak freely. We are listening.” 

“Good evening Sir, gentlemen. Well, we´ve found the Russian called Andropov in a cabin. He confessed having killed Metzler for some story related to an alleged Mayan treasure.” 

“That does not concern us.” Interrupted Wildau´s boss. “Get to the point Wildau.” 

“ Andropov also admitted that Metzler and he stole our ... relics in the cave of Wewelsburg.” 

“Did he also say where they are?” 

“Yes Sir. I´ll personally tell you the exact location when we meet. For now I will only say that they never left Germany.” 

“All right. I understand that everything is resolved.” 

“ Yes, Sir. There is a theme that I would ask ... I do not know if this is the time.” 

“Speak up, those accompanying me can hear what I hear.” 

“It is about one of my assistants, Jack Berglund, a good man. He is still imprisoned at Rikers Island.” 

The old man looked at one of the attendees, who made him an approving nod. 

“We'll take care of Jack Berglund. You immediately return to New York and come to see me directly, any time you arrive. Well done, Wildau.”
