Chief rushed in the WPC building followed by Officer Jones, giving order while passing through the officers table's. 

He paced directly to his office and gestured Officer Jones to follow. 
The old chief brainstorming for their mission to catch the 3 brothers or get any evidence to reach closer to the man he has been looking for ages. 
Chief stood by the window and started giving orders to Officer Jones, who was the head of the team behind Felix.

"Jones, Group A will be leaded under your command. We are heading to ville port. Put Group B on emergency call as a back up. We will sneak in the port as workers. Disguise yourselves. Got it??"
Chief ordered turning around facing Officer Jones.

"Yes sir! We shall be ready in 1 hr."
Officer Jones said saluting to chief in respect.

Officer Jones left anf halted by Felix's office. He entered his office pressing the emergency bell for Group A's Office and so for Group B.

The guard's and officers in the both groups rushed to the meeting room where Officer Jones was already waiting to brief them the plan.

"Listen up! We have been informed about weapon amd drug smuggling going on from the ville port. We are going to raid the area today in 1 hr. Group A, 5 people will disguise as workers and the other 5 will wait with Group B at the back of the port for my signal. When i signal you through the secret mic you have to sneak in from the west side. Got it??"
Officer Jones said briefing the plan and showing the map to them along.

Both the Groups shouted unitedly.
"YES SIR!!"

"On work!"
Officer Jones clapped his hands and all of them left the meeting hall.

Group A and B in their respective cars followed Chief's car which was leading them to the port.

The following black cars halted behind the Chief's car under tree. Chief signalled Officer Jones to call the 5 disguised guards and send them in first. 

The guards left the car walking to the entrance. Before they could go forward Officer Jones asked them to stop. 

"If they ask who are you. Say Sir Ziven sent us. They will let you in there."

The guards nodded and walked to the big gate. Big containers of different colors could been seen resting on each other as pile of papers. 

The night wasn't here but the port was dark. There was no source of light except the dimming light from the sky. The sun wasn't there to light up the sneaky crimes that have been taking place at this dark place.

The guards were stopped at the entrance by a young man. The man seemed in his mid 20s. 

"Where you going??"
The man asked.

"Sir Ziven sent us for checking."
One of the guards spoke.

Upon hearing Ziven's name the man stiffened and cleared their way. The guards nodded and went in followed by the young man.

Officer Jones found a chance and ran inside through the gate followed by the rest of 6 guards of Group A. They hid behind one of the containers. 
Officer Jones observed where the man was leading the guards. As the man took the guards in a room Officer Jones along with the 6 men spread through out the port. Officer Jones went in the room on the East side while the other guards went to the room on the other side of the port. 

The room Officer Jones entered in had a lot of big boxes, chests and sacks piled up. Officer Jones blocked his nose from the smell of drugs lingering in the room. He walled to one of the boxes opening it to find small transparent packs with white powder filled in them. He checked the other reachable chests and sacks to find bullets and some dangerous drugs in them.

The 5 disguised men were taken into the room and the  man opened the big chest to show a lot of riffles and guns hidden in the pack of clothes. The lead guard signalled the guard standing closer to the man. The guard walked behind the man gesturing to look for the other chest but, he pulled out the handkerchief having chloroform on it and pressed it on the man's nose and mouth. 

The guards in disguise rushed out meeting Officer Jones.

"Where's the man??"
Officer Jones asked in a hurried tone.

"We knocked him out. Sir he said that the head's would be coming to check in a hour too."
One of the guards informed.

"Good job! Take the man to the car. One of you stay here at the gate in place of him. Did he mention his name??"
Officer Jones asked as something was in his mind.

"He didn't mentioned it sir."
The guard told surprising Jones.

"Okay. Stay Alert still. We still have to catch the criminals."
Officer Jones said in a commanding tone.

The guards nodded heading back into the room and coming out carrying the man over their back and walking out of the port from the west.

Chief saw the guards coming back with someone on their back. His eyes widen as he came out of the car in hurry but, relaxed as he saw the face from one of the pictures he had.

It was Lex.

"Don't let him wake up until we head back."
Chief ordered the guards putting Lex in the car.

They nodded and sat in the car to keep an eye on Lex.

Felix had already asked Amelthia about her meeting with the Chief but she didn't let out a single word and went away locking herself in her room.
Since then Felix has been trying to contact the main building to get any information about the mission Chief mentioned.

He tried contacting Officer Jones but got no response. He tried to contact the guards room but no response.

A strange tension was building inside him.

Amelthia sat on her bed wrapping the white blanket around her. Her past scenario's flashing through her mind.

She remembered the stinging  and burning of her skin. She remembered the hot feel of her tears streaming down her cheeks. She remembered the cold surroundings. She remembered his scowl, his eyebrows knitting together as he looked down at her.

She gripped on the blanket tighter as hot tears same as her past flowed from her eyes down her cheeks.

Jun opened his cyan blue eyes when he heard a very familiar voice call out to him.
"Hey, are you finally awake?"
He blinked a few times, and eventually, he could see. He found himself in the water but was able to breathe. The person who called out to him sat a few feet away from him.
"Junie?" Jun asks asked as he walked over.
"This is going to sound strange coming from me. But you have to remember the truth, and I am not your brother." 
Not his brother…? What is he talking about?
"Aha, that face, it looks like you don't believe me at all." 
"Affirmative. According to my data, we are indeed blood-related siblings. Our appearances resemble each other too much." Jun states in a monotone voice, his bangs were starting to annoy him slightly. Unfortunately, since Junie had a firm hold on him, he could not move.
"True with that, I really can't convince you. But, you'll remember soon enough the reason why I ended up looking like this." 
 Jun looked at him puzzled, "I do not understand… I'm aware I have amnesia, but…it can't be possible that I could mistake my brother." 
 
"Ah ah, what to do with that girl's ability is amazing. But it's weakening, and that's exactly why I'm able to talk to you like this." Junie's gaze turned serious. "You have to remember Jun because that person has always been so very important to you. Someone who could bring tears to your eyes. Someone who can stir up your emotions."
"If I don't wish to remember?" 
"But you already care quite a bit about that person. I am sure a part of you has always wanted to remember."

After that odd dream, Jun was not in the mood to work. But he was not the type who would skip out and ditch his responsibilities because of his mood swings. Since they arrived in Tokyo, they are busy every day, and although they enrolled in school, they seldom attend. Jun, however, intended to rearrange his schedule when the summer finishes.
Jun recalled Terashima Yuhi's words and paused. That person is more interesting than he thought; he requires more data.
"Slow down a little bit on the crane shot at the start." 
 "Camera two, move back before we enter melody B." 
"Could we raise the volume on our voices more?" Ran said through the megaphone.
 "Please turn down the rhythm section a little."
 "Ten seconds till rehearsal. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, one." 
"( ALL) Shining starlight!
"My legs are trembling because of 
a sudden happening - 
We gotta power!
Changing my crumbled heart with a single hit
, is that also fate?" Jun sang.
"A real every day, various memories
Give me a true love beyond reality!" Ran and Tetsuo sang.

 "That is a wrap. Perfect, you three." 
 "Thank you very much."
Even so, to think that the three of them would continue receiving tons of projects together is quite surprising. For a while, the media stuck the three of them on several jobs with the other two. But even that settled down for a bit, and he mainly had work with Ran and Tetsuo.
It's not as though he has a problem with receiving work with these two. But it seems quite strange before they became a group of four, they were three, So every time they receive a job as a group of three together, he half expects to see maroon colored hair and annoying smiles popping up somewhere. But it appears as though he is not present today. 
Jun had wanted to question him because that person for sure would know what Junie is talking about. Although it happened in his dream, he really can't be too sure. . However, as he thought so earlier, it felt far too real to be a dream. 
Sumire has always said that dreams are the manifestations of people's desires and thoughts,' Nobody can tell a lie in dreams or even a secret. Because not sure whether it is real or not. It is a free space to let your thoughts overflow. In a place like that, isn't it the best place to let a secret out?' 
It can't be, can it? Junie is his brother. He can remember it clearly; from a young age, he was the only other person besides her, even though he cannot remember their parents. Now that Jun thought about it, that person turned stiff and made up some sort of excuse before he got into a coma. 
Jun quickly learned not to mention it in front of him. It can't be a coincidence, can it? He sighs deeply; that is the fifth night in a row he could not sleep properly. Although Junie only appeared in his dream this morning. It felt like the dreams prior was getting him ready for today. 
His thoughts broke off when he felt a sudden warmth on his forehead. His eyes widened when he discovered who the hand belonged to, and it belonged to his team member Ran.
"You have a mild fever. Crap, I knew I should have taken that photoshoot in the rain for you the other day." He cursed.
"I am feverish," he murmurs. He hadn't noticed it at all, but if Ran says so, it's most likely to be true. More importantly, just now, why did the warmth from his hand feel so familiar?
Jun didn't get a chance to say anything since Ran carried him away already. Once he laid down, Ran placed the cooling pad on his forehead and stuck the thermometer on his mouth.
"Thirty seven-point eigh--holy.." Ran trails off. Jun half expected him to start lecturing him but instead feels his hand touch his cheeks. "As I thought you've been looking of for a few days. The light on your room has been on quite a bit these past few nights." 
"You noticed that?" 
Their rooms are nowhere near each other. So unless he had been walking by that area, he should not have noticed it.
"I did." 
Odd, why would this person pay that much attention.
"Ah, Ibuki-san! Welcome."
At that comment, he immediately turned his head and spotted Sumire at the doorway. She had a small bag in her hands and passed it to the director. "I apologize for being late; if you would like, I made a few extra."
As considerate as ever, even though she does not have to do that. Made a few extra? That is a lie. Jun knew she must have woken up early. He hears approaching footsteps, and soon violet-colored eyes peered at him. 
"Are you sick, Jun-kun?"
"The idiot has a thirty-eight-degree fever. Im going to call the hospital. Can you stay with him for a bit Sumire?"
"Mmm, okay." Ran dashed off with those words, and Sumire casually sat down on the ground beside the couch.
"You know Jun-kun, you haven't changed."
"I haven't?"
"Whenever you worry about something, you overthink and end up sick."
Indeed that is what happened this time too. It seems that Sumire-san still knows more things about himself than he does. "It was something stupid."
"But even stupid things have a meaning." Sumire trailed off. "Say I wanted to ask you, back then why did you tell me to chase after Ru?"
"I thought he would make you happy."
Sumire laughed softly. "Indeed, you were right there. That person gave me so much happiness. It was because I gained the courage from you that time that I took that step forward, so I wanted to thank you."
What is she doing thanking him for? That is his line, and he is the one who should say thank you. The sheet music she brushed off as a draft was the final version of the song. Even though she struggled like Terashima said, she found the inspiration to write it without realizing it.
"The hands of the clock marking the passage of time,
I was a little jealous of the sound

It was only a few verses of the song, but he watched as her expression brightened. A brighter smile than before appeared on her face. It reminds him of that time, the time he asked her to go after Mamoru. That bright smile on her face was so very beautiful. 


"I will do anything to reach the truth."

A drop of ink can penetrate the walls, even the walls you took too long to build.

It keeps going around in circles, like a drop of paint. Round and round - an endless stream of pain and lies. But, that stream ended the moment she laid her eyes on his paintings. 

Such rich and vibrant colors, it felt like his emotions exploded. Yet, in the corner of his studio, she found it. The real him, a sakura painting of two people walking hand in hand. 

A gentle and sweet feeling, something she has never felt before.

200 years ago, the world was engulfed by a blanket of diverse monsters known as "Dhekaids". Throughout the generation, humanity protected itself by building the Seven Towers, each surrounded by large walls that cover the entire continent. Interested by the origin of the outside world, Aran Crossford enrolled at Fosier Academy to set out a journey outside the walls in order to solve the truth about Dhekaids. An instant later Jun Li appeared on a gating platform.  Rock walls and a torchlit room led her to believe that she was underground.  Beneath her feet was a black mat that matched the one she had stepped on in the Cabal Chamber. "Maybe these mats have a limited range."  

/Inferno: Donri: Still okay Jun Li?

/Inferno: Jun Li: Yes.  The mat brought me to a gate.  Back in a bit.  

Jun Li stepped onto the gating platform and disappeared once again.  Her arrival seemed to take several seconds in her head.  Was her destination that far away?  She had been in Oliphia.  That meant that the Cabal had an interplanar gate like the one in the Gemini Temple.  

A wide expanse of clear blue sky and bright sunlight caused her to shield her eyes.  She was standing on an elevated platform in an empty stadium.  

[Welcome to the Scarlet Arena: Today's matchup is Gemini vs Scarlet]

Jun Li glanced at the empty seats and then as the barren stage, she was the only person around.  "The hell is this?"

An instant later that changed, dozens of guests appeared at their seats in succession giving the stadium a strobe light effect as it began to rapidly fill up.  A lean man wearing all black appeared in front of Jun Li. He approached her with his hands spread wide.  "Gemini Champion Jun Li?"

Jun Li nodded, he definitely looked like a stealth-type class. "Are you the Scarlet Champion?"

The man's handsome face broke into a smile. "Goodness no.  I'm today's official for the Arena."  

Jun Li tightened the grip on her blade just in case he was lying. "Do we need an official?"  

The self-appointed referee shook his head.  "Not for this matchup, but sometimes the fights have rules."  

A woman appeared on the opposite side of the stage.  She wore sleeveless red silk robes that announced her as a magic-user.  A flame aura hovered around her, reddish-colored skin and a body covered in tattoos made Jun Li instantly cautious.  

"I am Ri, the Scarlet Temple Champion."  The woman bowed slightly.  Jun Li decided she was beautiful, despite being completely bald.  

"Jun Li, Gemini Champion."  Jun Li held her sword up to her face in a fighter's salute.  

"Hmm... That's a nice sword Gemini Champion. Would you care to wager it on the outcome of our match?"

Although Jun Li loved the sword, to her it was just a tool.  She had grown up in a Traditional Martial Arts Dojo owned by her family. Her father would often tell her, 'your mind is the best weapon.'  "What do you have to offer in return?"  

Ri held up one arm and displayed a rather beautiful image of a large cat that closely resembled a tiger.  "This is a Saber Dire Cat. Do you like it?"

Jun Li shrugged.  "It's lovely, but I've no interest in tattoos."  

Ri placed a hand over the image and a moment later it jumped onto the stage.  It was nearly double the size of a normal tiger, however, this one was long razor-sharp fangs protrude from its mouth. "She can fight and makes a fine mount. My pet against the Gemini sword."

Jun Li glanced at the cat, trying not to let her excitement show.  She was definitely a cat-person irl. "Done."  

The Arena Official clapped his hands loudly. "The wager has been recorded.  Betting Venues are now closed.  Champions move to your designated areas."    

A small circle with the image of a Gemini lit up, Jun Li stood on it and waited calmly.  

The Offical raised his hands and glanced at both contestants.  "Fight har.."  The air next to Jun Li seemed to distort slightly, making him stop his words.

Nix sat comfortably at the table Hyai had pulled into the Inn's kitchen.  They had just finished eating when he received a notification.  

/Gemini Temple Message: Your Champion has accepted a challenge from the Scarlet Temple Champion in the Everspire Continent.

"Scarlet Temple?" Nix opened his hud and moved to the Gemini Interface.  He could locate the Gemini Sword no matter where it was. It was something he learned from Delyn Xai who had done something similar in order to keep tabs on his apprentice, Raine Xai.  

"Something up hun?" Hyai watched Nix's reaction, he seemed more curious than concerned.  

Nix nodded. "Junie is at a place called the Scarlet Temple Arena. Let's take a trip."  

/Expedition: Nix: Taking a small trip.  Hyai and I will be back shortly.

The tall redhead walked around the table and held out her hand.  

[Create Breach: Everspire: Scarlet Temple Arena]

The couple stepped through the Breach a moment later. Nix spotted Junie right away, he also took note of the other two people on the stage.  

"Sir!  This is a private match. You'll have to find yourselves a proper seat." The official stared at the man who stepped through the breach.  He knew exactly what a Breach Commander was, so he purposefully kept his tone respectful. 

Nix nodded in reply. "As you say.  This is my Champion so of course, I'm here to observe." 

"The Gemini Lord?"  A voice spoke from the nearby box seats. "I am the Scarlet Temple Lord.  Please join me as my guest." 

/Inferno: Jun Li: Hey guys.  Thanks for coming.

/Inferno: Nix: Wouldn't miss it.  Besides... when there are two Gemini...

[A second Gemini has been located in your vicinity.  Gemini Bond has been enabled.]

/Inferno: Jun Li: Hmm?  Oh right!

The Scarlet Temple Lord was a shirtless red-skinned man covered in tattoos.  Like his champion, he was completely bald.  "Please take a seat Gemini Lord."  

Nix nodded. "I'm Nix and this is Hyai."  

The bald-headed man offered them both a smile. "I'm Dhala, welcome to my Temple."  

Once the newcomers were seated, the official raised his hands again.  "Fight Hard!"  

Jun Li brought her sword up and waited.  The tiger would be hard to deal with, traditionally beasts were very strong and some nearly impossible to kill.  

The tiger wasted no time, immediately it sprang at Jun Li.  

[Darkness]
A shroud of darkness has been pulled over the eyes of Ri.
A shroud of darkness has been pulled over the eyes of Fang.

[Ghost Step]
Jun Li's form blurred and she appeared behind Ri, slashing at the back of her legs before using the same step to retreat.

Ri's movements have been slowed by 50 percent.  

From the audience, Nix and Hyai watched the first clash. The Innkeep leaned toward him. "What is that spell Junie used?"

Nix had a smile on his face. "It's one that dropped from the Chaos Mage at the end of the Onion Quest, none of us wanted it so I gave it to Junie."  

Hyai nodded slightly.  "It looks like a CC ability."

The Scarlet champion spread both arms wide, the intricate tattoos on her body seemed to shift.

Jun Li's pretty face remained calm, she was facing a Pet Class.  She ignored the sprite that was already casting and charged past the wolf.

A surprized Ri watched as three successive fire attacks landed on the Gemini Champion without effect.

Jun Li raised her off-hand, a single emerald flame strand shot out and wrapped around Ri's ankle. 
She yanked backward before taking a giant leap into the air, her blade flashing at the Scarlet Temple Champion's neck.   

Fresh red blood splattered on the stage as Jun Li landed lightly a moment before Ri and her decapitated head.

Jun Li swiped her blade once in the air, removing the blood before putting it away.  The roar of the spectators took her by surprise, the beautiful warrior bowed gracefully and waited while a cleric attended to Ri.  Her Gemini Champion medallion pulsed with power.

Your Gemini Champion Medal has been upgraded.

/Inferno: Jun Li: Thanks for the loan.

/Inferno: Nix: No problem, only one strand?  Kinda lame Junie.

/Inferno: Jun Li: Flame strands are such a scam anyway.  Did I mention that we are getting a new Gemini Class from the Cabal?

/Inferno: Nix: Is that why you are here?

/Inferno: Jun Li: Yes.  Gemini: Sniper.  

Nix whistled and leaned back in his seat.  He could see Hyai's confused expression. 

Hyai lowered her voice slightly.  "How did she use flame strands?"

Nix grabbed her hand and stood up. "Thank you for having us Lord Dhala."  

Lord Dhala stood also.  "Such unusual abilities.  Might I talk you into staying longer?"

Nix shook his head and pulled Hyai toward the Arena floor.  "Unfortunately I have urgent business elsewhere."  

A few minutes later Jun Li was stroking the beautiful tattoo she had on the inside of her wrist.  It had literally jumped off of Ri's arm and onto hers.  The Scarlet Champion's face showed her remorse at making the bet.  

/Inferno: Jun Li: I'll head back to the Cabal and pick up the class stone.

/Inferno: Nix: Nice job Junie.  Wrap things up with the Cabal and head home.  

Nix smiled when Jun Li exited, he could tell that neither the Temple Lord or his champion had expected to be trounced so easily. "The Gemini Bond establishes Skill sharing.  She used a diluted form of my Flame Strand, but in a fight like this, surprise is everything. She also borrowed my flame tolerance."

(Progressing Forward Three Months)

Three months pass in Oasis.  During that time, the clean-up of Inferno City is completed and a good portion of the Core'dium population migrate to their newly minted home.  Rumors flow despite Inferno's efforts; a Fallen Dragon City has been reclaimed and once again floats in the skies somewhere above Everspire.  Inferno returns home, the gate between Loki and Inferno City becomes active, enabling the members of the 12 Pillars Alliance to enter the City.  

Shae returns to Haven and Fajii enters the last days of Phase III training with Vooni's Fire Team. Alpha Team enters Phase II of their training as Vooni's Dagger Team.  In a turn of events that no one expected, the Fir'Dhassi open up their borders to humans, allowing all the guilds free access to Parliament. 

Bev hits her stride as the Governor of Loki while Delyn Xai prepares to give the VoTech its first Wrath Graduates.  

Leva cements her position as a Nether Overlord, providing Nix with valuable Intel regarding their next target. Nix continues his duties as Breach Commander, sending in teams from the 12 Pillar Alliance more and more.  The dragon fir Tree that Nix planted in Haven finally stops growing, it reaches nearly twice the size of normal dragon firs found in Dragonvale.

Nix and the Inferno Guild have managed to rise to the top of the Colonial ranks and in the process destroyed the Cai'Song artifact, thus closing Mermaid City to all future adventures.  Through their success on the very difficult 'Onion Quest', a Colonial Embassy was built on Glory, the Inferno Guild's City State.  

Inferno outraced their competition to the 69th floor and was able to attain access to Oasis, the New World that many of the Upper Tier Guilds have advanced to.  Hard work coupled with clever manipulations enabled Inferno to become a notable power in the Parliament Government that deals with Oasis World Order.  During this time Inferno became aware of the Upper Planar  World of Sky Kingdom. Nix uses the power of their Parliament access to form the floundering human guilds into a cohesive alliance know as the 12 Pillar Alliance.  The Guild and their newfound alliance take over Loki as the New World Human Colony.  

As Inferno's power continues to grow, Nix uses his Breach Commander status to gear up his Alliance and give them some much-needed combat experience.  A Seed world called Haven is fully settled and a VoTech Institute is built to teach the Alliance some of the powerful classes that Oasis has to offer. 

Inferno discovers the origin of the Sky-Kingdom cities and claims the Master-City of Elynmoor as their own. During this process, Nix manages to plant a high-level spy into the Nether World hierarchy. The accomplishments of Inferno have been noticed by several Super Powers, notably the Cabal and the Dragon Masters of Sky Kingdom.

Nicholas Phire was sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of parole.  Because of the mercy of a lonely prison guard, a new world is presented to him.  Nix finds himself in the Virtual World of Colonial with a hundred-year assignment as Lifestyle player in the Gladis Hub.  Will Nix stay in the remote village located on the polar Ice Cap?  Or does adventure await for the man whose life was supposed to be over?

10:50 A.M.

"General, it'll be an intensive psychological warfare operation, on a much larger scale than what we've done back in 'Nam against the Vietcong or in the Philippines with those Aswang superstitions. If we want to ensure that these… criminals — for lack of a better word — do not attack the Sonarans or us, then we need to make them believe that resistance is futile."

General Harding replied after a moment of silence, allowing the gears to click and the plans to formulate before providing insight. "Demonstrate a show of force; let them know what will happen to them should they resist. Back them into a corner, but not too far in the sense that they'll become desperate and lash out. Instead, offer them salvation before it comes to that. Yes, that'll be good. What do you propose, Colonel?"

Colonel Sanders thought for a moment, a smile growing on his face as he responded. "Preemptive strike, sir. Currently we know that about half of their total forces are gathering at a camp north of a city known as Chunam. We can let their army build up until they have reached their desired numbers, then strike. Unfortunately, this means we will have to abandon your goal to eliminate the threat within a week. We will have to requisition some more forces for this operation, sir."

"No need for that, Colonel. The President has given me full authority to neutralize the threat by any means necessary. I've already requisitioned two GBU-43 B units for this mission, alongside some white phosphorus munitions. I've been informed by the Sonarans on what these criminals have done to their people, and can do to ours should they remain a threat." The General had a dark look on his eyes before continuing. "The security of Site Beta One is top priority for this assignment; you'll have access to 2 B-2 bombers, one B-52, and a squadron of fighters for escort. We will have a small battalion from the 75th Ranger Regiment on site as an additional precaution. Most of our forces will be busy participating in Operation Upper Hand, so you'll need to make do with what you have, Sanders."

"What about the negotiations?"

"The negotiations have been canceled. Unfortunately for the Nobian Emperor

"Understood, sir! I'll make sure they're deep fried before they even get near our guys on the ground."

"Thank you, Colonel. Dismissed."

Colonel Sanders stood up from his seat and exited the room. After he left, General Harding heard a knock at the door. 

"Come in," he said. 

Looking up, he saw the man who walked in: Captain Henry Donnager. 

"General Harding," the Captain said.

"Captain, what can I do for you today?"

"Sir, I request permission to use the new weapon we found at Site Beta One, the N25, as my personal sidearm."

"And why should I give away such a valuable technological discovery?"

The captain, anticipating this question, maintained his expressionless face. "For one, sir, the native wildlife of this planet are a force to be reckoned with, and given my most recent objectives, I find it to be imperative that I acquire the best equipment possible in order to protect our valuable scientific assets and to continue securing high value assets for our country. Also, there were a lot of N25 units back at the site; I'm sure the nerds in the labs have enough to experiment with. I will make sure to submit my field test findings to them," he said.

Generals Harding, satisfied with Captain Donnager's reasoning, smiled amusingly. "Very well, Captain. But be warned, we still don't know how to reload that thing, nor do we know how to check it's ammo or energy capacity."

"Noted, sir. Thank you."

"No, thank you, Captain, for helping discover this cache of equipment. Oh, and be sure to report to me tomorrow at 0800 hours for your team's debriefing. I've got a special assignment for your team."

2:43 P.M.

"Here are the most recent satellite pictures we've taken, sir. It seems that the Nobians are transferring some of their troops to a secure facility southwest of the city here," an intelligence officer said, pointing toward a city on a picture on the desk. Making a trail with his finger, he traced the troop movements caught from the satellite until his finger stopped near a dense forest. 

"I see. What do you think, Sergeant?"

The man replied, unsure if his General was testing him. "I think that the Nobians have a hidden base somewhere in the forest, sir."

"And what do you think they have in this here hidden base? What is the purpose of this?"

"Well, sir, I think it may be a FOB or staging area for a surprise attack, given its proximity to the Sonaran city of Solsus."

"Acute observation. Let me know if you fellas find anything else, and be sure to coordinate with the Sonarans. So far, they're instructed to perform simultaneous attacks on the Nobian forts of Nilmeer and Norimaten once we commence Operation Upper Hand. Make sure their pride doesn't get in the way; their melee prowess will do us no good if they're right next to our targets."

"Of course, sir," the officer said before leaving the room.

3:23 P.M.

Donnager watched the target in the distance, aiming through the streamlined sights of a foreign weapon. Taking a breath, he shifted his stance and aligned the target with his sights. 

Pipipi!

Donnager fired three shots on the lowest setting, meant for stunning targets. The blue bolts all landed on the center of the designated target, slightly charring its surface. Off to the side, men in white lab coats recorded the results. 

"Hmm, no recoil on the lower settings. Let's try moving it up a notch," he said to himself, turning the dial to 50%, which the scientists determined was meant for lethal use. 

Pewpew!

Two blue lights raced toward the target, each separated by a distinct delay, placing the fire rate for the 50% power option at 450 rounds per minute. Again, the bolts hit dead center. Donnager inspected his weapon, impressed at the advanced recoil control mechanisms built into the gun which, combined with his trained hand, had nearly perfect accuracy, even at longer ranges. The gun apparently was developed with a built-in rangefinder and an adjustable sight that zoomed appropriately in accordance with the distance of the target. 

Lastly, he tested out the maximum power option. The scientists who experimented with the weapon yesterday recorded an energy equivalent of a quarter of a ton of TNT when the bolt collided with the test object. The larger unknown rifles had maximum power levels in the tens of tons of TNT. With these considerations in mind, he pushed the target further back and ensured that he was using a steel target rather than a wooden one. He held his breath, then exhaled as he pulled the trigger. Once again, there was a slight delay as the weapon charged up; this time, Donnager was aware of this and thus maintained his aim. 

The crackle of thunder resonated throughout the firing range, piquing the curiosities of nearby people. Donnager looked ahead, a smile growing on his face. The weapon was capable of punching through 3 inches of solid steel and deforming a good portion of the steel target, melting the front of it. 

Some of Donnager's teammates were nearby, testing their own weapons before the captain had even arrived, although they had since stopped to watch a demonstration of the advanced energy weapon. Seeing what happened to the steel target Ryan walked up to Donnager. 

"Sure is a helluva gun there, sir. You should know sir that most of us here on the base are jealous that you get to run around with one of those alien blasters."

"Well I'd say I'm a helluva captain. Maybe in a few months you'll get one of your own blasters once RnD figures the stuff out. Hell, we haven't even explored the lower levels of the facility yet. There's a chance they'll find some more good stuff down there."

"Yeah, maybe," Ryan replied. 

"Hey, why don't we go visit Jones? Hear he's practicing his magic with Kelmithus."Having said that, Donnager turned his sidearm down to zero and stowed it away, before gesturing toward the door. "After you."

Jones and Kelmithus were in the next room over, practicing in a converted firing range. The rest of Alpha Team was there, with Tesla, Oppenheimer, and Darwin all eagerly watching the unfolding events. Darwin in particular had long ago relinquished her status as a field operative, and instead remained at the base in order to conduct laboratory experiments and tests. Over the past month, she spent most of her time at the base working on studying magic; she discovered that humans from Earth had a vestigial structure located in the brain that is apparently active amongst the people of Gaerra. 

"It looks like Dr. Jones here found a way to activate this vestigial cerebral node, with the help of that staff," Darwin surmised. 

"Hey, the 'staff' has a name y'know; his name is Omnis!" Jones interrupted. 

"Right; well anyway, these tests here alongside boosting his combat capabilities will help us analyze how magic works in the realms of physics and biology. Understanding this region of the brain can prove insightful into our knowledge of evolution, especially considering the things found in that advanced facility. English in a high tech place like that, thousands of light years from Earth… I can't even begin to comprehend the implications of something like this."

"Well Darwin, looks like humanity's been around far longer than we've ever thought," Tesla replied. 

"Right…" Donnager said. "My heads all tangled up just thinking 'bout that. Jones, you discover any new spells?"

"Oh, I sure have! Thanks to our grasp of physics, I can basically combine spells and cast magic on a deeper level, like turning fireballs into plasma bolts, and generating EMPs and stuff." As Jones said this, he pointed a scepter at a nearby target, which promptly became engulfed in burning plasma. Before the room became uncomfortably warm, Kelmithus put out the fire with some ice magic.

Amused by the interaction, Donnager raised an eyebrow before asking, "Think you'll be able to go on missions with us? I feel like the DARPA guys are gonna want you on site so they can… experiment."

"Oh don't worry about that; I'm probably the best individual asset that anyone on Earth has access to. Top brass wants me to participate in more missions, since I'm the most powerful weapon in our arsenal."

"Not counting nukes though, right?"

Oppenheimer interjected, "Well, for now, we are not including nuclear weapons in this comparison. However, we've tested the power output of Omnis and theoretically—"

"Let's just say Jones has… potential. So far, the most powerful spell he has casted can create a blast equivalent to a hundred tons of TNT. This doesn't even include what he's capable of when he casts other types of spells. I theorize that his defensive shields could probably withstand an energy threshold similar to his offensive limit. As for summoning spells, environmental magic, and telepathic capabilities, we don't know yet what his limits are."

"It is hard to translate the abilities of a man in one type of magic to his ability in another; each practice of magic requires different standards and environments of learning. Although I am considered a master wizard, there are still some magical subjects with which I falter, such as that of healing magic. It appears your friend is learning very quickly in the field of environmental magic, or as you may call it, physical magic due to its relation to physics. Of this type, the spells you've already encountered include explosive, reality distortion, and elemental," Kelmithus popped up. "Additionally, I believe the teachers of the Divinian Empire may be of greater assistance; their magical proficiency far surpasses mine, despite my title. A Sonaran master wizard has perhaps half the capabilities of a Divinian holy mage, their highest rank aside from their leader."

"Interesting. Well, I see you're teaching him well Master Kelmithus. I take it you're also experimenting with new spells?" Donnager asked. 

"Indeed I am, Captain Donnager. I'll be reporting my findings to the Sonaran Society of Magic soon. If I may, will it be possible to bring my students from my academy here to learn?"

"Ah, deciding that is not part of my jurisdiction, but I'll forward your request to Ambassador Perry; you guys can probably have some sort of exchange program with some universities back in the US."

"Thank you very much, Captain. Now, if you'll excuse me, we must return to our lesson."

Month 6, Day 21
8:00 A.M.

"Ah, Captain Donnager, please take a seat."

Nodding towards General Harding, Donnager sat at the empty seat by the door.

"Now that everyone is here, let us get on with this meeting. I know what you all are probably wondering. Who is this man?" Harding asked, gesturing toward a man dressed in civilian clothing. "He is Director Tempos, and he's the Nobian insider who provided us with the intel on Prince Lonad Novus, the imprisoned son of Emperor Novus. Tempos, if you can elaborate."

"Of course, General. Prince Lonad is the next in line for the Emperor's throne, but he's been imprisoned due to ideological differences between himself and the emperor. Your 'See Eye Ay' is very interested in breaking him out in order to install him as the new leader. Thus, your leader wishes you to seek the chained prince and free him from his prison. I have been working closely with loyalists and your intelligence officers to develop a plan. General," he said, signaling that he was complete with his portion of the debriefing. 

Nodding his head, General Harding began, "Alpha Team is to extract Prince Lonad from a dungeon located in the Nobian capital city of Nokk. Sergeant Miller, the intelligence reports."

Sergeant Miller from the intelligence department brought over pictures of the building that Alpha Team needed to infiltrate. 

"Obviously, the civilians will have to sit this one out, but I'd like Dr. Jones and Master Kelmithus on the team, if possible."

Jones and Kelmithus agreed and allowed General Harding to continue. 

"We're going to be encountering enemy magic users based on intel provided by Director Tempos, and because of our limited knowledge on such matters, it is imperative that we fight back with our own magic. Stealth is a priority in this mission; the dungeon in which the prince is kept is incredibly near the royal barracks, so the enemy will be able to call for many reinforcements if they get the chance. Luna and Terra Squads will be conducting other missions around the capital. Luna Squad will rescue other political prisoners while Terra Squad will orchestrate several jailbreaks in order to overwhelm the guards within Nokk and sow chaos. In the meantime, a contingent of our forces will engage the defenses along the walls, luring the majority of the stationed army outside to defend. Sergeant Miller will inform you regarding the details, including enemy personnel count, layouts of the prison and city, and extraction point. Any questions?"

"Yeah," Donnager popped up. "Will we be getting any air support in the event that we get overrun by Nobians?"

Harding answered. "We'll have one Apache from the Army and one Viper from the USMC ready for your tasking. While you're not in need of them, they'll be providing support for the main force; only call upon them if it is absolutely necessary. Lieutenant Colonel Keyes?"

"Call sign for the Apache is going to be Seeker 3-1; and for the Viper it'll be Firefly 1-1. My forces will secure the extraction site by the Nosh Courtyard near the city's outer walls. Our objective is to hold the courtyard until the extraction is complete, but we will begin the assault at 0100 hours, thirty minutes after your team is dropped off at the designated LZ."

"I've made sure that the Lieutenant Colonel has enough firepower to ensure a complete victory over any Nobian forces they may encounter at the city, but it is your duty to ensure that the package is secured."

Upon seeing several heads nod, the General continued. "In two days we are going to have our first major offensive operation on an alien planet. I don't have to remind you all what's at stake here. The future of our country and perhaps the entirety of Earth will depend on what we do in this world, and we need to make damn sure that we make this planet safe for colonists. Am I clear?"

"Sir yes sir!"
