You know the stories, where a R.O.B wants to be amused and turns/reincarnates/throws someone into a world of fiction to see what happens? Well, that was what happened to me, and in my case, my conscience was transferred to good ol' Dr. Eggman.

One the one hand, I was Eggman. Eggman, the only scientist in the entirety of fiction who could boast of being smart enough to not just understand, but also be an equal to Rick Sanchez. On the other, he also nearly destroyed his onw planet by sheer stupidity several times, and in the same continuity.

And on the other other hand, aside from the general premise of the comic (a follow-up of Forces) and it's current arc (a zombie-robot apocalypse), I literally knew nothing else. I think that was what R.O.B wanted, watching as someone that didn't know a thing about Sonic handled himself as his archnemesis.

Well, I decided to simply... not to.

I WAS the smartest being alive, but also no longer compelled to conquer Mobius due to an excessive ego, destroy Sonic because of my intense hatred of him, or otherwise being as assholish as possible for the sake of being 'evil'. Best of all, I didn't have to feign amnesia because I really didn't know what happened on this universe! Screw conquest or being the villain, or the damn canon, I had a golden opportunity to redeem Eggman, myself, whatever! Hell, I even had a good alibi for my change!

'Course, that was only after I woke up as Eggman himself after apparently surviving an explosion. I'll tell you more later.

Have you ever experienced "changes" throughout your life; well if you did, then you will probably relate to the Webtoon Urban Animal by Justin Jordan/John Amor. 


Author 

Once again, I do have some more concrete info on the authors of the webtoon. Justin has been writing comics for over ten years, which include the Luther Strode series, Spread death of love, and the Family trade for image comics specifically while John has lent his artwork for Judas: Last Days for Idw, One week in the library for image comics, etc. The inspiration for Urban animals, in particular, was Ben 10, Filipino folklore, Beast boy, animal man, John Carpenter's The Thing, Megaman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Archie comics. 

Summary 

Meet Joe Gomez: an average teenager with close friends, loving parents, and even a band. However, like all teenagers growing up has caused him to go through certain...changes only instead of squeaky voices and acne Joe instead becomes a literal animal. For you see my dear friends, it's revealed that Joe is secretly a force of nature given form: a chimera. An immortal being that reincarnates throughout its infinite lifespan with the ability to turn into Earth's many animals. And as Joe is thrust upon a world beyond his imagining, he must learn to embrace it if he has any hope to protect what he loves. 

Characters 

Joe Gomez: Joe is our admirable hero. While he has shown to be awkward and easily flustered, his new life as a chimera has made girls the least of his worries. He is completely willing to put his life on the line for his friends and family, even if it does mean a night butt naked and imminent death. And while he doesn't have much of a grasp on his powers, he is a very quick study as he has so far adapted to his new role as protector while trying to answer the question. He is your average Joe, or simply the latest reincarnation in the chopping block.

Corkinadale: A chimera that has lived far longer than most what he lacks in strength he makes up for in wisdom. While he does have his purposes for Joe right now, he just wants the kid to survive as he gives him the lowdown on living the chimera life. But as with any man who's lived long in a career where many die young, he has many skeletons. 

Overview/Good stuff

Urban animal has a very gritty comic book art style which can make the many transformations and transitions pop as it's always stylized. The creators researched the anatomy of many animals to create some downright awesome creations (Ex: rhino-horse hybrid, T-Rex, and Frog like monstrosities). Of course, the color scheme used to display these creatures is also on point. The transformations cause the fights to have a lot of momentum, dynamics, and brutality. The Pacing is also an incredibly strong point. Every chapter gives you a great sense of fulfillment. Typical melodrama between Joe and his cast could last chapters is handled pretty fast. Every character makes the most of their respective screen time, so even if they don't have much to offer, that doesn't mean they have nothing to say. The creators do an awesome job of making them all feel unique and likable, which is important for later arcs in the plot. The mystical world of chimeras is one I can't get enough of. It is a great way of establishing an engaging urban fantasy with amazing body horror. So far, the various seasons have given us parasites that turn men into monsters, humans who have devoured the power of chimeras for themselves and secret societies that gave created much of the folklore you see now. Effectively we have a world that feels concrete but also unlimited.
An example of that is in the Chimeras tiers of power. From weakest to strongest, we have changelings that can only transform into one animal, swarms that can become one of many, skin dancers that can turn into the same genus of animal. Beastmasters can transform into multiple animals at once for more power, and real chimera can manipulate nature itself like plants. 

If that weren't enough for you, then maybe you'll enjoy an interaction as old as time itself: Author and Reader. I've never seen creators interact this much with an audience before; they leave consistent comments to answer any questions and drum up even more drama from time to time. As someone who is also a resident author himself, this was a very welcome surprise.


Epilogue 

Urban animal is a great story that will probably be even greater with time. I can't wait to see what happens next, but in the meantime, I wonder what form my spotlight will take next as well.

Just a simple person is trying to shine a little light on the beautiful world of webtoon. With a splash of sarcasm, narration, and spitfire along the way.  And who knows I might have other segments just for the hell of it.

　　李顺才和毛总听着心中猛跳，这事逻辑上通的，可你这么做，不就是跟他们“推特总统”正面冲突吗？
　　你个小孩子，去和灯塔总统比舆论影响力！？这不是痴人说梦吗？
　　搞不好他们奥达就会粉身碎骨的。
　　宁有容此时满脸气愤，连连摆头道：“不行，不行，你就算去做交换学生了，你怎么证明自己的实力？没有文联，没有文化局，也没有老师在你背后支持你，你什么都做不了。”
　　虽然许乐这小神童名声响亮，但包括现场的人在内，几乎所有成人都认为“小神童”的作品是靠着背后团队制作的，跟他本人关系不大。
　　许乐脸上却展开灿烂无比的笑容：“所以嘛，我需要我这些同学陪我一起去，我一个人自然是势单力孤，况且在那边我也有接头的人。”
　　说着，许乐拿出了手机点开视频电话，里面就出现了一张微笑的中年白人面孔，自我介绍道：
　　“各位好，我是杰森·西佛，是《英雄漫画》的创始人~许乐将要来的山谷中学，是我孩子卡洛儿，本杰明读的中学，我会保证他和他同学的安全……”
　　苏柔赶紧给家长们当翻译，解释了这位面容和善的西佛先生的来历，李顺才和宁有容听到对方是《变形金刚》IDW系列漫画的发行方，也是客气地问好。
　　众人此时心里才有点恍然大悟的意思，看这情况，许淼是早已经安排好了一切，这次山谷中学的交换学生之旅，并没有他们想象的凶险。
　　要知道，《英雄漫画》凭借变形金刚的IDW系列的漫画，现在已经反攻实体漫画市场，成为了北美第三大的漫画公司了。
　　许乐去，别的不说，带着小明他们一起，继续鼓捣漫画，应该能搞出点名堂。
　　小神童其他的才华或许是虚构的，可这画画的本事，可是实打实的。
　　想到这里，李顺才这才松口答应，冯娇和毛总也想清楚厉害关系，也同意了这次的事情，只有宁有容依旧不愿意让许乐冒险：
　　“灯塔那边那么乱，到处都是枪击事件，万一许乐出危险怎么办！？”
　　不过“四小家长同盟会”采取的投票制，大部分都同意的计划，宁有容也无法阻止了。
　　许乐这时才转头问苏柔，冯坤众人：
　　“你们愿意不愿意陪我去?”其实比起家长们同意不同意，许乐更在意小伙伴的态度。
　　小明兴高采烈地嚷嚷道：“去去~白人小姐姐身材超好……”话说到一半，却才想起自己老爸也在，赶紧改口道：“英文也好，我去提高下自己的英文水平……”
　　苏柔和沈落雪忍不住“噗哧”笑出来，都点点头，能去北美上中学，这可是难得的机会，没理由放弃。
　　只有冯坤阴沉着脸，考虑一下，又望了望许乐，见许乐瞪着他，才叹气道：
　　“去……去吧，总不能让你一个去送死啊~”
　　这下就连李顺才，宁有容都忍不住哈哈大笑起来，冯主席这孩子怎么比她还深沉呢。
　　这时只有小毛默不作声，毛总忍不住过去轻轻踢了自己儿子一脚：“当什么闷葫芦！还不表态！”
　　四小这小团队家长各个都是跟着许淼的顺风车，一路发展，别人孩子都知道拍小神童的马屁，你个小子怎么这么不识趣呢！？
　　小毛却是摸摸屁股，对自己父亲恼怒道：“我倒是想去！可我也要能去啊！？我成绩不行，英文不行，学校怎么会批！？”
　　毛总顿时听着愣住了，他倒是没想到这事，顿时毁得肠子都青了，他平时怎么就没好好抓自己儿子学习呢！？
　　他能混到四小同盟会里，多半就是靠了小毛跟许乐关系好，现在别人都去当交换学生了，就自己儿子留国内，那他恐怕就真要被排挤了。
　　许乐却笑眯眯地摆手道：“没事，过几天少委会方面，会在召集四小，四中的学生做一次选拔，小毛你跟着我就好，我帮你安排，要去，咱们就都一起去，一个人都不能少。”
　　小毛听着眼睛红了红，有些不好意思低下头道；“许队长，我真不行……”小明，冯坤会画画，苏柔，沈落雪会做模型，他会什么？他只会玩玩具，到了山谷高中，也是许乐的累赘。
　　“什么不行，我说你行，你就行。”许乐拍了拍小毛的肩膀道：
　　“其实，小毛，你很像以前的我。”
　　“嗯？”小毛一愣。
　　“我上幼儿园跟你一样，和别人在一起总是觉得自己不行，也没什么朋友。”许乐缓缓道:“那时是一个同学帮我，鼓励我上进的。”
　　“你那同学不错啊。”小毛偷偷瞄了苏柔一眼，心想说的是苏柔吧。
　　“不，我羡慕你。”许乐愤慨道：“最后我那幼儿园同学骗我把所有玩具借给他玩，然后他丫转学了，到现在都没还我玩具。”
　　苏柔他们原本都以为是个感人肺腑的故事呢，没想到是这样的结局，都哈哈笑起来。
　　只有小毛听着面色一冷，低声骂道：“你说他叫什么名字！我去帮你要回来！”
　　众人都是无语，只有许乐笑得很开心，这恰恰是他欣赏小毛的地方……靠得住！

With the cash and watch in tow, the group drove off in their car.
Li Du kept the watch in little bug's black hole. He had the real deal, why would he wear
a fake? He could not bear to dump the imitation watch, but could not derive any
happiness from keeping it either.
They stayed another night in a hotel and the next day, they started their journey back to
Phoenix.　　
Amengda Mountain in South Africa had been purchased successfully, and Li Du was
free to go over to develop the area any time he wished.
However, Li Du wanted to let Carl arrange for the diamond inspection team to conduct
their checks first. He was not in a hurry to begin the development and was keener to get
an evaluation of Amengda first.
For now, he wanted to go and resolve the bet he had made at Harry Winston, Inc. He
had to obtain Carlston Fritz's shares!
Sophie had returned to the villa first, and the five little ones had set up their own base in
the spacious backyard. Each of them drew out their territory.
Little Flathead, Ah Meng, had the largest territory. The four little ones were unwilling to
provoke Ah Meng. The hounds were clever enough to notice the wariness of their four
bosses, and were even more cautious around the new family member.
The truck entered the villa's grounds, where Big Quinn's wife, Rosalind, was waiting for
him with their three children. Seeing their father, the children climbed onto Big Quinn
and hung onto him like monkeys.
It was a heart-warming moment: Godzilla brought his gifts over to Victoria, Brother Wolf
went to see his recovering daughter and Lu Guan was reunited with his Golden
Retriever.
Hans wanted to take the opportunity to leave as well, and said, "I miss my sister very
much. I want to visit her."
"No, the two of us have to organize these books," Li Du said firmly.
Hans instantly lost his enthusiasm and said lifelessly, "We have to do all that work?"
Li Du said, "What if there are valuables in this pile of books? We have to look carefully."
Big Ivan took the initiative to bring down the books from the car. Hearing Li Du's words,
he took out a comic book that had been preserved in pristine condition. He passed it
over to them and said, "That's right. Look, this book seems like it could be valuable."
With a smile, Hans took the book from Big Ivan. His eyes widened.
Hans held the book in one hand and his phone in another. Then, seeing that his mobile
connection was too slow, Hans yelled at Lu Guan, "Let go of your stupid dog and bring
me my laptop! Hurry!"
Li Du stepped over, took a look at the book and said, "Aren't you being too dramatic?"
The comic book looked like it had been around for some time. The red cover page had
turned dull. On the front cover, Spiderman carried a little boy and was about to swing off
a skyscraper. There were shadows of cars on the streets below him.
The top right corner of the comic book carried the numbers '1962', and the bottom left
corner was labelled '12 cents'. The word Marvel was neatly printed above Spiderman. It
was a Marvel book.
Hans said, "Dramatic? I am beside myself. This seems to be the first Spiderman comic
book from 1962. If it really is, this is very valuable."
"More than ten million dollars?" Li Du asked expectantly.
Hans rolled his eyes, "How can that be? But it might fetch a few hundred thousand or a
few million."
Once he laid his hands on his laptop, Hans quickly made an internet search. Then, a
piece of news flashed on his screen. There was a picture of their comic book on the
news website.
The headline was, 'Spiderman' Snapped Up At Paris Auction. Comics Connection Pays
1.2 Million.
The news article described the story of that comic book. At an auction in Paris last year,
that first issue of Marvel's Spiderman comic was brought out, and Comics Connection
bought it for 1.2 million. It was actually exhibited in its town hall!
After reading that piece of news, Hans carefully removed the packaging to examine the
comic book more closely.
Having read the publishing details, he could not help but pump his fist in the air. He
yelled, "Yeah, yeah, yeah! This is awesome! It's this book! One million and 200,000 !
One million and 200,000 US dollars!"
Shocked, Li Du asked, "Really? Someone would actually fork out over a million for a
comic book?"
The most expensive books that Li Du had come across were the set of National
Geographic magazines he kept. They were priced at more than ten million.
However, that was ten million for more than a thousand magazines. Besides, most of
those were the only existing copies in the world. Also, from his perspective, National
Geographic magazines represented parts of history. It belonged to the narrative of all
humankind, and was not something that comic books could compare to.
Now this comic book disrupted his understanding and knowledge of magazines and
their value. A comic book, one that was published only fifty odd years ago, could
actually be worth more than one million?
A million was not the most they could earn from the comic books, however. As they
continued to organize the stack of comic books, they found a few more that were as
precious or even more so.
One of those was the first issue of Superman. On the front cover, Superman was
wearing his iconic red cape, blue spandex top, and red pants. He was running away
from a storm, looking as cool as ever.
In the middle of the front cover were the words 'Action Comics #1'. This meant that it
was the first issue.
Hans caressed the dated comic book and said, looking punch-drunk, "This is history.
We are looking at history. Buddies, this was the start of it all, the birth of American
heroes! We are looking at a baby photo of an American hero!"
Li Du asked, "Is it very valuable? Run an online check, how much can it fetch?"
Hans said, "There are no trading records online. At most, there are only ten copies of
'Action Comics #1' in the entire world. Even DC Comics Company don't have it… oh,
they had it previously, but it was stolen!"
Li Du was optimistic, "Then it should be worth a lot, right?"
"Let's put it this way, don't talk about money, brother. This book is priceless!" Hans
exclaimed. "There are no trading records of the original copy of this comic. However,
the re-released copy was sold for 1.8 million US dollars!"
Li Du was shocked. "A re-release version can fetch such a high price? Are those comics
collectors crazy?"
Hands said, "The high price is due to the main character. Superman is iconic, it is the
first superhero in human history!"
Li Du shook his head, "At the time of the Ming dynasty, we already had a superhero
named Sun Wu Kong in China. This is the first superhero in our history."
Hans called out, "Who cares who came first? Anyway, this comic is very valuable. It is
very, very valuable!"
Li Du carefully took the book out of the wrapping paper.
There was a price indicated on the front page. The comic was published in June 1938,
and its selling price had been ten cents.
