I decided to post some poems I've written and also will post most poems given by anyone, to find out how, read "Anthology Expectations"

It was already the afternoon and Angeal, Arlo, Arvid, Frey, and Dharvey were already having their classes. Usually in the afternoon, each of them would be having their major classes of their degree so they don't usually meet each other unless they plan to go home together.
Angeal was in her Stylistics class, listening to Professor Leon. He was already telling the class what tasks they would be doing for the week, already giving them what they would have to do today.
It was also known to the class that Professor Leon is Angeal's father. When they knew about it through rumors that spread ironically from the faculty room, the people who knew were surprised and now understood why their resemblance is uncanny.
Angeal looked like the female version of Professor Leon. Other than that, they both share the same interest in writing—the difference is that Professor Leon lived to teach how to write, and Angeal learned to make stories.
"Now," Professor Leon said as he wrote two titles of a poems on the board, the eyes of the students focused on it. "We would be doing The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph's Reply."
When the students read the two titles on the board, most of them weren't familiar of the titles. They stared at Professor Leon expectantly, waiting for him to explain further what they are about to do for today's class.
Since this is Stylistics class, the students already expected what they were about to do.
Stylistics is a branch of applied linguistics concerned with the study of style in texts, especially, but not exclusively, in literary works.
Also called literary linguistics, stylistics focuses on figures, tropes, and other rhetorical devices used to provide variety and a distinctness to someone's writing.
If not a short story or a novel to study, sometimes, poems can be used for literary studies in Stylistics.
"We will be studying two poems today namely, 'The Passionate Shepherd To His Love' by Christopher Marlowe, and "The Nymph's Reply To The Shepherd' by Sir Walter Raleigh. For further information, Christopher made his poem in the year 1599, and Walter's, in the year 1600."
As everyone was about to reach out to their phones for them to do a research, Professor Leon called out their attention by clapping his hands thrice, surprising most of his students to stop them from using their smartphones.
"Hey, if you search everything on the net, what will you learn?" he reprimanded, everyone's eyes on him as he leaned on his desk, continuing to speak. "You are to study two poems, correct? We have discussed about ways on how to study poems the other day, now I want you to do just that."
With what Professor Leon had instructed, everyone got their notebook instead, getting a piece of paper at the same time to jot down what they have observed from the two poems.
"Since you are given two poems, you are going to do comparing and contrasting. Once you start, you would find it interesting—the connection of the two poems," he said further as he flashed on the white board the two poems, beside each other.
The moment the two poems flashed before the students, most of them smiled, seeing how each stanza of the different poems came out to be replying to each other.
"Now with what I told you, you are given the whole period to do your study about the poems. Five minutes before the bell rings, submit your papers then you are free to go."
With the instructions now finalized, everyone went silent as they read the poem, the students already making notes before doing an in-depth analysis of each.
Angeal, however, read each poem at the same time, reading one stanza for the other, and another stanza for the second. In this way, she would see how the two poems were connected.

THE PASSIONATE SHEPHERD TO HIS LOVE
First:
Come live with me and be my Love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That hills and valleys, dale and field,
And all the craggy mountains yield,
THE NYMPH'S REPLY TO THE SHEPHERD
First:
If all the world and love were young,
And truth in every shepherd's tongue,
These pretty pleasures might me move
To live with thee and be thy love.

From the first stanzas of the two poems, Angeal wrote on her notes the two characters namely the shepherd and the nymph. Since the poem was made in 1599, obviously, the poem by Sir Walter Raleigh was made to reply to the poem Christopher Marlowe had done.

THE PASSIONATE SHEPHERD TO HIS LOVE
Second:
There will we sit upon the rocks
And see the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers, to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.
THE NYMPH'S REPLY TO THE SHEPHERD
Second:
Time drives the flocks from field to fold.
When rivers rage and rocks grow cold;
And Philomel becometh dumb;
The rest complain of cares to come.

From what Angeal has read from the first poem, she deduced that it was a pastoral lyric—a poetry that expresses emotions in an idyllic setting. It is associated with Shepherds writing music to their flocks. The tradition goes back to David in the bible and Hesiod, the Greek poet.
As for the Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd, Angeal has yet to read more in order for her to deduce what else she would find out.
"Hmm…" 
Angeal tapped the tip of her pen on the table as she blankly stared at the poem by Sir Walter Raleigh, mumbling to herself at the same time. 
"This is more than just a reply."
"That's right."
When Professor Leon spoke, Angeal was startled for a bit as she did not notice that the professor was actually behind her, getting everyone's attention as each student looked at their instructor.
"The poem by Sir Walter Raleigh is more than just a reply to the shepherd. Look closely—read between the lines. Look at its theme—look at the words used. Do not only skim above the surface."
With his reminder said, he continued walking about in the room, the students continuing their task at hand. 
Angeal then continued reading the following stanzas of the poems, in hopes that she would understand what she was missing.


"Devin, do you love me?"

Hearing her question that had snapped him out of his thoughts, the Soul Eater opened his eyes slowly to meet her blue eyes once more. He smiled foolishly as his right hand reached out to her face, his thumb caressing her bottom lip.

"Is that a question you dare ask your husband?"

Angeal pouted like a child. 

"Tell me you love me... or I’ll cry."

Devin chuckled, making Angeal pout more as she narrowed her eyes at him. When Devin ceased his jovial laughter, he didn’t answer her question. Instead, he bent down as he pulled her closer to him, his lips smoothly landing on hers to give her a loving kiss. 

’I love you, Angeal. Before I even knew it, my heart yearned for you.’

Punished by the Almighty Seraphim, Devin was branded a fallen angel and was given a curse to become a Soul Eater—a being who is hungry for souls and feeds on them for sustenance.

Devin was bound on earth, looking for clues on how to cure his irrevocable curse until a desperate old man saw the Soul Eater and begged him to save his newborn granddaughter’s life.

However... it comes with the price of selling both of their souls. 

With the old man giving both of their lives to the Soul Eater, what path lies ahead for Angeal as she grows in a house full of magical immortals?

The Almighty Seraphim sighed, shaking herself from her thoughts. She then spoke, planting more curiosity in the mind of the Dominion who was watching over the Soul Eater. 

"Continue watching over them. She is his cure, but it will lead her to oblivion.”

With the Soul Eater cursed and with them eventually knowing that the sweet innocent girl he saved is the cure, will their relationship be a boon or a bane?

Will they perhaps have sweet love, forbidden love... or maybe even both?

With the given thoughts at hand, will fate bless their lives... or curse them even more?

Screw your sister! You are the tyrant! Your entire family are tyrants!
Xu Que had fled immediately after acting tough and heard the system beeps within his head when his face contorted in anger. He couldn’t stomach the offensive new title and raged out at the system. Afterall, "Act Tough Tyrant" wasn’t half as nice sounding as Act Tough Criminal!
But… Since this new title enabled him to purchase items from the system store at 80% reduction of the original price, he didn’t argue for long and sunk into silence soon after.
(T/N : Apologies for the unclear ‘eightfold’ price reduction in the previous chapter.)
The lines which he had uttered earlier, ‘"These drops of rain were born of the heavens but died here on earth. Their lives spanned the entire duration it took for the raindrops to land."’ wasn’t actually original.
In fact, these lines were taken from the main character of a popular story. He had decided to use them at this opportune timing to great effect. Truth be told, a person of his nature wouldn’t have been able to be so deep and eloquent sounding ever!
All this were done just to act tough and gain points. As for not deriving true understanding and comprehension of the phrase and its context, Xu Que didn’t even care. After all, the way for him to become stronger and gain levels was through points and didn’t require him to attain enlightenment or knowledge!
He walked past a wall and stood at the corner before calling out his system and entering the store.
 
Indeed, the prices of all the items in his sight had drastic changes. The prices had been significantly reduced and there were many more new additions too.
The first thing Xu Que’s eyes caught sight of was the new educational and learning segment of the store. This section was new and was extremely comprehensive. It even included all the works of Confucius and his disciples along with other renowned philosophers.
However, the thing which made Xu Que the most excited was the availability of the book <Comprehensive Chinese Couplets>.
Seeing this filled him with immense joy!
"A book on couplets! Hahah! Looks like I can act tough once again! System, I wish to purchase the book <Comprehensive Chinese Couplets>!"
Xu Que thus purchased it without further hesitation and used it immediately.
Later on during the banquet, there would be a couplet competition. Xu Que knew that he was rather poor with couplets and thus had decided to flee earlier in order to save him the inevitable embarrassment. Now, however, he was filled with confidence.
Whoosh!
In that instant, the book <Comprehensive Chinese Couplets> vanished from his system inventory as it transformed into a ray of white light and swirled around his mind. Once again, his knowledge on the subject had increased many folds.
Along with the <300 Tang Poems>, this <Comprehensive Chinese Couplets> gave him many poetic lines and phrases. However, the most important aspect about this was that it also equipped him with the skill of writing poems and forming correct replies to couplets.
Additionally, Xu Que recalled the classes he was made to attend in his previous life and how he was forced to memorize poems as a child. Hence when he looked at these lines now, he didn’t find them too strange or foreign to him.
After he had purchased the <Comprehensive Chinese Couplets> book, knowledge started to fill Xu Que’s mind. His lips curled into a smile. At this point, he still wasn’t particularly anxious to return and thus continued standing by the corner of the wall, exploring the other items within the system store.
Apart from this new educational segment, there were many other new items added to the system store.
For example, there were many strange spells manuals added which caused Xu Que to feel extremely bewildered. There was this strange <Dual Cultivation - Old Man’s Cart Pushing Martial Arts Technique> and also <Heavenly Fire and Ice Ninth Waves>.
Xu Que, who admits to have the purest of hearts and was the most innocent, was startled. He took mental notes on several of these books and their prices before checking out other items.
When he next explored the food section, he was stumped!
There were many other new items added into the food section. However, the prices of these items were very high. In fact, they were unreasonably high!
When Xu Que saw these prices, he was enraged, "System, explain to me something. Why did the smelly tofu and other food items cost me only 1 act tough points in the past and yet the new food items release are being sold at such an exorbitant price? You’re actually selling a single item for 100 act tough points now? Why don’t you rob the bank or something?"
"This system has decided on prices set for each item in a fair and absolute manner!" The system replied plainly.
"Fair and absolute? Fuck me. Are you learning how to act tough from me now?"
Xu Que was clearly upset at this point as he replied the system, "Then why don’t you tell me, why would a packet of cigarettes costs 100 act tough points? Likewise, a bottle of beer also costs 100 act tough points, why?"
"Ding! Smoking cigarettes is bad for your health!"
"What?" Xu Que’s expression revealed a look of astonishment, "Then what about beers?"
"Ding! Alcohol will cause you to screw things up!"

Xu Que had no retort for that. Afterall, the system was correct in its replies. Xu Que actually had absolutely nothing to say.

"Fuck! You are indeed a scammy, cheating, damned system!" Xu Que scolded harshly as he flicked his robes.
A lighter? Why would I need a lighter? I am a cultivator. I can conjure fire anytime I wish!
Back at the dining hall of the banquet, after Xu Que had left, the entire hall slumped into silence.

"That’s right . Although he’s an obstinate and arrogant person, the ten poems which he had recited was indeed the best I’ve ever heard! Even though we’re unable to see past his flawed character, we have to admit his brilliant talents!"
"These drops of rain were born of the heavens but died here on earth. These words had caused me to reach a new level of understanding and I’ve learnt quite a fair bit from it. The only person present who was still able to cling onto his composure and calmness was the leader of the four greats, young master Zhao, who was known for his proficiency in couplets. 


I am the best when it comes to taking divergent paths. With just a flip of my hand, I shall take the path less commonly travelled. I search far and wide, only to find myself unbeatable and unrivaled. So now I ask, who else can match my awesomeness? 

Acting tough is second nature to me and I am a lone wolf.
 
The road is long and winding but I shan’t feel lonely as long as I am able to act tough!


Life and death bore me and I do whatever I deem fit.

“Young man, way back when I started acting tough, you were still learning how to put on your underpants!” Xu Que thus decided to take the path of acting tough. He decided to act tough every single god-damned day. If he wasn’t acting tough, he was scheming for the best way to act tough!  

Once it finished speaking, the figure of light scattered into specks of light and disappeared.

The world returned to silence for a brief moment.

Then the black market erupted into noise as countless people loudly discussed among themselves.

Some quick-witted people even sneakily ran into bookstores.

The seven Holy Bibles!

Each Holy Bible depicted the words, actions as well as the view of the Gods towards all things, the teachings they had towards their followers as well as their predictions of the future.

To find the labyrinth, they needed to look for the 21 poems of divination that lie within the 7 Holy Bible!

Fortunately, within the Strife Zones, the 7 Holy Bibles had always been the most well-circulated books, sometimes, the Holy Churches would even give the Holy Bibles out to their followers for free.

In the Strife Zones, the books with the most copies within any bookstore had always been the 7 Holy Bibles.

After another short period of chaos, everyone managed to gather an ample amount of Holy Bibles from several different bookstores.

A Combatant had the thought of wanting to take all the books for himself but quickly gave up on it.

Because he knew that if he tried to do that, everyone would gather and risk their lives to kill him.

Because this was a teaching of God!

Even before the issue of faith comes into play, the figure of light had already said that it had only bought a bit of time for living beings – for them.

If they couldn't find the labyrinth, they wouldn't be able to find the Divine Armaments, and the sinful creature wouldn't be sealed again.

If his impulsive actions caused the search for the Divine Armaments to fail at the last minute, then he would die together with everyone else within the belly of the monster!

So the Combatant took a deep breath, pulled out a copy of the Holy Bible from inside his chest and quickly flipped through.

This was a Holy Bible of Death, depicting many of the Death God's actions and words, with an addendum of his poems predicting the future at the end.

There are probably a few thousand of these poems.

And this was only one of the Holy Bibles.

There are a total of 7 Holy Bibles…

He shook his head and quickly focused on reading through the poems.

This was going to be a vast undertaking, but no matter how tough it was, they needed to find the poems that fit the current situation as fast as possible!

The entire black market fell into tranquillity.

A path that leads directly to becoming a Demigod was now in front of them.

No one had the time to kill and struggle for mundane riches.

At the edge of the floating port.

Gu Qing Shan gave Little Dusk a cup of steaming hot tea while he leaned on a chair and read his newspaper.

This was the Spire Keeper Association's newspaper.

"Will they actually be that generous?" Gu Qing Shan was still reading the newspaper as he asked.

"Trust me, I know the Divinities very well" Little Dusk said: "They are very keen on sealing away all the unknown and powerful creatures of sin, and mortals who help Divinities achieve that goal will always receive their favour and rewards"

Gu Qing Shan hesitantly spoke: "But wouldn't directly becoming a Demigod be too much of a leap for living beings?"

Little Dusk smiled: "Demigods aren't really all that either, it's just the first step on becoming a real God"

"Are there any Demigods in the Strife Zones?" Gu Qing Shan asked.

Little Dusk answered him: "The serving deities being worshipped in the 7 Holy Churches are all Demigods"

Gu Qing Shan muttered: "Serving deity…"

According to the dead general's memories, Gu Qing Shan knew that each God had their own serving deities.

The serving deities would deal with complicated matters and management in place of the Gods, loyally adhering to their orders.

Gu Qing Shan then recalled the black hound that lingered around Anna.

"Demigod huh… do you think I should give it a try?" Gu Qing Shan asked.

Little Dusk told him: "You should, becoming a Demigod will greatly increase your strength, your cultivation will jump several realms, your card grade will also leap several levels at once from a grey card to something else"

"Hmm… that does sound enticing" Gu Qing Shan muttered.

The 900 million World Layers alliance had also been destroyed.

This was the end of an era.

The great shroud of the apocalypse was slowly being pulled open.

For now, the only lucky survivors were those within the Strife Zones, hidden away by the power of the Divinities.

But no one knew how long this luck could actually last.

Gu Qing Shan deeply sighed, clasped his hands together, and formed a seal.

"I have something to ask you"

He told Little Dusk.

Specks of light gathered at his fingertips, forming a terrifying visage.

It was a face made of light, half-man, half-women, their eyes were filled with insanity and hysteria, both carrying an expression of pain with wide-open mouths as if they were screaming in silence.

Indeed, this was the creature that rested within God Institute.

"Do you know what this is?" Gu Qing Shan asked.

As Little Dusk stared at the monster, her expression slowly became solemn.

With a slow and cold tone, she told him: "It has many names, the Predator, Enemy of Divinity, God Eater Sin, Ender of the Desolate Age"

Gu Qing Shan was glad and asked: "So you know about it?"

"I do" Little Dusk nodded: "This is a creature from the Age of Desolation-------- the age before the Divinities were born"
"This creature brought an end to the Age of Desolation after the Divinities were born, even the powerful True Gods with vast, unimaginable power could only become its food"
"The reason why the Divinities created myriads of living beings, even breaking all taboos in search of forces much more powerful than themselves was because of fear, and the majority of that fear came from this creature"

Gu Qing Shan asked further: "Have the Divinities ever won against it?"

Little Dusk replied: "The Divinities once had a decisive battle against it------- I was present at the time as well"

"So you already fought against it?"

"Not me alone, all the most powerful creations of the Divinities participated in that battle, some of them were even stronger than I was"

"And you won?"

"We did, but barely, the majority of Divinities at the time lost their lives for it, powerful creatures the likes of which I couldn't believe also died in that battle"

"What about the monster?"

"We couldn't thoroughly destroy it, so we sealed it away------- that was all we could do, but that way, the Divinities were temporarily safe"

Gu Qing Shan silently nodded.

Little Dusk asked curiously: "How do you know about this creature?"
