These are some of the popular novels which we know. Each of them is very unique in it's own way and have become popular in it's own right. It would be incorrect to call them a failure, as they have correctly captured their intended audience – the Japanese teenage audience. However, when thinking about a broad perspective, these novel become obsolete when it competes on a global level with other web novels, and the majority of the reason for their deficiency is simple – the Protagonist in these novels is a typical Japanese light novel protagonist, who is naïve and a dumb virgin idiot. It is as if he has never received any sex education, and would always talk some naïve things which do not match with his current situation. Their behavior is somewhat correct given that these protagonists are usually high school kids, but the readers have difficulty accepting such an immature protagonist.

Web novels are about accumulating wealth, women and power. So when a reader reads the protagonist behaving like a dumb virgin when a girl approaches him, or when he does not actively seek wealth and power, the reader is bound to get angry and disappointed.

A good example can be found in the following example :

In Tsuki ga Michibiku, the Protagonist Makoto establishes a business half-heartedly, and his business is more like charity to the hyumans, the same hyumans the majority of whom treat him like sh*t and had killed his subordinates. Instead of developing his Asora realm, where we might have enjoyed him developing a realm and being a king or even god, he keeps roaming throughout the world unnecessarily.

Also, he had two beautiful subordinates who are eager to have sex with him, but apparently he sees them as 'sisters' or 'family', so he cannot do that. (Perhaps he has not read any incest hentai, or heard of Kiss X Sis)

Note that this is not just about sex, as there was a very broad scope for plot development in Tsuki ga Michibiku. For example, Makoto could have properly developed the Asora realm, showing us some world building and kingdom building. He could even have married Tomoe and Mio and their kids would have been demi gods who would do various mischiefs in the hyuman realm. There might have even been wars of Asora vs hyumans.

In short, the Japanese protagonists have disappointing characteristics on a global scale, and are not entertaining to read.

* SOLUTION FOR ALL THIS…

Japanese isekai novels have good would building (from light novel and web novel perspective), and this fact cannot be ignored.

My idea is simple, that is to write a fan fiction of a pre-existing light novel or use the basic ideas and rewrite the novel, the only change being the utterly virgin protagonist. The protagonist would simply be 'de-virginized' and re-introduced. This change might seem small but actually opens up a lot of routes for novel writing. (as in Tsuki ga Michibiku example)

The protagonists in these isekai novels are already powerful, and if they are re-written of as being mature, smart and driven by ambition, then they would become warlords, making the story even more interesting to read.

Tl;dr - Reincarnated mechanical engineer brings about industrial revolution in the Medieval Era (imagine going on an invention spree in the 14th century introducing steam engines, Newton's laws, Einstein's theories etc. Become the greatest scientist in the history and rule over the world), with the help of witches that are falsely called the devils incarnate by the Church. The world building is great, the translator is amazing and this story is a must read!!

The first thing I will say is that the title doesn't justify the story. If I was to sum up the story till now, it would be 'Engineer in Another World'. An interesting theory XD
The MC is level headed, smart, and he thinks like a student of science, and not like some stubborn and foolish idiot. He is nither arrogant nor a coward.
This is a story of an engineer being reincarnated in another universe, as a good-for-nothing prince and will fight against his siblings for the throne. And he uses science and stuff from his previous life in this world, which is still in the era of kingdoms using swords and crossbows, and becomes the overlord of the world.
Imagine you being reincarnated in 1500s. I will invent electricity, machines and everything I've learnt, and name then all after me. I will become the God of the masses and get worshipped by the whole world XD. Our MC is not that arrogant. He is humble and respects everyone, unlike a lot of novels. And there are witches in the story. From the sypnosis we get that the witches are hated by the whole world and our MC fights for them. I won't spoil it for you guys.
From the story so far, I think there will be lots of scheming, planning, plotting and conning others in the future chapters. Till now there has been no mention of things like cultivation levels or anything such. I don't think it will be a story where the MC is nuts about cultivation and becoming an immortal, which is different from a lot of xianxia novels, and I think this is one of the really good points about this story. The author is doing a good job at building the world, and I would recommend this novel very much

CRITICAL REVIEW :

Release that Witch is a surprising read in a sea of webnovels. It isn't perfect, and I'll elaborate on that, but it's above the garbage often seen. There won't be plot spoilers in this review except the obvious "Yeah he helps witches" so continue with that in mind. Enjoy my mini-novel review.
Unlike most CN webnovels, RtW distances itself from Wuxia and enters the magic flintlock genre. With a setting reminiscent of medieval times, you've got a cast of knights and nobles and peasants. This isn't a new concept. In fact, it's old and worn. But it's how it's done despite the tropes, and for the most part, the author managed well. The twist is that the protagonist comes from our modern day, and this twist carries the story in both obvious ways and more subtle ones.
Had the first chapter never mentioned the origins of the protagonist, it would've been hard to realize at a glance. The name of this regular guy is soon forgotten as he takes upon the role of Roland, the fourth prince, and you will probably only know him as such. The previous Roland was a fool, as often these stories make them be, so when our modern day hero takes over, it becomes a familiar journey of climbing to kingship. He no slave or farm boy, but his status as nobility begins low relative to his siblings, and gives us, the reader, something to cheer for.
This brings up the advantages of a modern day man in a period lacking knowledge. But as you can imagine by the title, what keeps this in the fantasy genre is the inclusion of witches, giving Roland cards to play on his path to glory, literally and figuratively.
Witches are ostracized as devils and killed. Their powers are clearly seen and isn't mystical voodoo no one believes. And our protagonist becomes their friend. Whether it's because he's interested in a scientific standpoint or he's a friendly guy isn't important. What's important is the role witches play in the grand scheme of things.
Roland's Border Town becomes a bastion for them. His kindness and acceptance toward witches attracts a flock who aid and make possible things that would otherwise be impossible. Like many novels in epic fantasy, it becomes too much, and details become lost. Because of the story's scope, beside a select few witches, many of them take a backseat and are reduced to tools to help Roland grow his empire. This is a shame because the cast of said witches is fun and varied. Unfortunately you'll only familiarize yourself with certain ones, and the rest are non-existent until the protagonist has use of their power.
Those powers have an important role, and it's here that magic and technology mix. Roland's ability to rise up depends on magic, boosting his ability to quickly reach the industrial age of guns and manufacturing. You'd think one might overwhelm the other, but balance is kept in check. There are clear advantages to witches, yet they're no army. By helping witches, he's given the chance to command an army unlike any seen before, and with his knowledge, the overwhelming advantages he has crushes the opposition and gives Roland a legitimate claim to the throne.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, he should know things others do not. On the other hand, he knows too much. Roland was a mechanical engineer before, but apparently he knows chemistry, biology, the education system, war tactics, shipbuilding, and who knows what else. Basic knowledge is fine. What this guy has is unacceptable, however.
"Hey, I'm going to write a chemistry textbook telling you every formula in the world. By the way I'm going to jot down a 500 page manual on how2biology. And I'm going to rewrite an entire play or three, by memory, perfectly. But wait there's more! I'll add in a physics course for free. Did I mention I'm a master plumber, farmer, and blacksmith? Hell, have some music theory too, because I'm a mechanical engineer who took some GE classes and we can all do that while governing an entire city as a full-time job."
Like, what? Some defend this, but there's literally nobody who can do this. Stop trying to "logic" it. Can anyone recite every country in the world by heart, right now, and every state and city and province? Can they list the periodic table in its entirety 20 years after they've long forgotten their high school chemistry class? Do they have seven phDs and a photographic memory? Literally autism. And if you don't want to admit that, then Roland's a Mary Sue, period. Frankly, being overpowered is fine. But let's call this story what it is and not pretend it's anything otherwise. Release that Witch is a power fantasy for teenage and young adult men.
Only in foreign webnovels do protagonists get a pass for being overpowered, which is called bad writing anywhere else. Even Superman has his Kryponite, whether it's a rock or vulnerable friends he must care for. Millions are enthralled by something like Game of Thrones because the characters are human. They are flawed and morally gray men and women who may not survive to the end. Protagonist-chan? He might as well be an alien, because nobody is perfect.
And this is an issue because I've never been concerned for Roland's well-being. He's perfect, and thus boring. While he's no fighter, he doesn't need to be. He is in no danger because he's not one step ahead but twenty steps. I'm quite certain that a witch introduced hundreds of chapters ago, who has never done a damned thing, will suddenly become relevant at a critical point. Then he's going to say, "Just as planned." But because the author didn't give our hypothetical witch any show time, it'll look like our prince pulled it out of his behind. Rest assured, Roland has his bases covered with a plethora of beautiful women surrounding him. He doesn't need to worry about them, either, since they're also ridiculous.
What's also boring is how dull his knowledge can be. It drags the story down when the author harps on about molecules. Imagine a football fan yapping in your ears about his favorite team while the season is airing. Now imagine you not giving a shit, since you'd rather watch Rick and Morty or Futurama or something. This is what it's like when the author writes about details no one cares about. Your eyes glaze over and you skip entire paragraphs as terms you've never heard of are talked about. Please stop. Go back to the story.
Speaking of story, like many in epic fantasy, there are multiple factions with intrigue and espionage in the background. There's a cabal of witches, the church, and the princes and princesses vying for control. The writer touches upon all of them in a third person omniscient point of view, meaning you see what happens at a bird's eye distance and hear the thoughts of all characters. The reader is in the know of things our protagonist is not, and of events he doesn't witness. Possibly good, probably bad. Although we learn more about the world than Roland does, we don't get to experience the surprises in store for him in the future because we'll be in the loop. I personally lean toward this being a negative because this just becomes info dumping and telling rather than showing. Where's the mystery if the author introduces a new character, then immediately tells us his secrets? His life story, his children's stories, and the name of the gopher in his front yard--there goes whatever interest I have in said person.
Another negative is the grammar. For a translated novel, it's okay. But being readable doesn't mean it's correct, and if you're someone who understands basic grammar rules, little things will bother you. Punctuation and dialogue tags, for example, or the incessant use of passive voice. The editors could do a better job. For the last time, you can smile dialogue. When will they learn?
Now I'm going to talk about what this story is and isn't. Despite the roster of witches, all of whom are women, this is not a harem. It has the potential, but it isn't and hopefully won't be. This story is also small on romance. Because of the cast size, Roland doesn't have time to dote upon characters you may or may not ship together. It's present and there, but it's a subplot. Though some may praise the romance, I can't, because I don't see it becoming more than superficial. There's maybe one chapter focusing purely on relationships as of the 200s. How this is good romance is beyond me. RtW is and will always be about Townbuilding 101 and the politics that come with it.
If the main course of the novel is reaching a modern day quality of life, then witches and magic and such are like the side dish to add flavor to the meal. If one witch is salt and another is pepper, you'll get a lot of salt and pepper. But again, because of the story's scope, you're not going to get much paprika or garlic or chives. They're there, but only as one-dimensional additions. Let's not mention the named knight or three. Unfortunately, you may forget who half the cast is. But if you love the few characters that get the screentime of an A-list actor, you're in for a wild ride.
Anyhow, if I had to recommend a Chinese webnovel to a reader who doesn't like Chinese webnovels, this story would be my first suggestion. At the same time, it's so far away from the typical CN story that it almost doesn't qualify as one, yet technically it is. There's no saving face or retarded "can't see Mount Tai" or wow, he can't decide whether he should laugh or cry 100x. It's not a story of self-improvement by getting lucky finding an artifact, then senseless slaughter. It's a standard western epic fantasy that also suffers from CN webnovel tropes, and whether that's what you want or not, that's what you'll get. It's unique, but not unique. It's done okay, but certainly not groundbreaking.
I cannot get over the detachment I feel for most characters. I like the characters placed in the backseat, never to be heard from again. I like the subplots that'll never be brought up in the future. Instead I read pointless specifics on topics I couldn't give a rat's ass about. Instead I learn Roland paves some roads, and maybe adds a few more witches I'll forget exists. Worst, I'll never be worried about him because I know the fourth prince will pull through unscathed. Why, then, should I or any reader care what happens? The stakes aren't high. They're as low as the dirt under our feet. And when the hero doesn't struggle to achieve his goals, then he didn't earn those victories. Roland is given them on a silver platter, and suddenly, everything he accomplishes is diminished. Zero tension, because every battle is already won.
That doesn't mean I didn't like it. It's still enjoyable. But the fun factor degrades. So I have to ask myself why I should read this pseudo western fantasy. Why should I read RtW when I can read Patrick Rothfuss? Why should I read RtW when I can read Brandon Sanderson, or George R.R. Martin? These known fantasy authors have been picked up by publishers because their work are proven sellers, and have years of practice under their belt in writing. Release that Witch competes in the same genre, but doesn't have the same polish. So for a webnovel it's above average, but compared to published novels vetted by professionals, it has glaring flaws. By virtue of setting alone comes its own pros and cons.
Lastly, I want to say that the story really drags when the releases slow down. Because it reads differently, the pace is different and does not fit the norm of CN webnovels. If you binge read it, the experience is better, but the translators are not keeping up as of late, and my interest in the story suddenly tanked. And once I let the story sit in my mind for a while, I realized it's really as good as people say it is.
Tl;dr, Release that Witch is pretty good for what it is. Release that Witch is also pretty bad for what it pretends to be.

4. The Prodigy: I Was Reborn And To Become A Saintess by _AngelGrace_(Fantasy Romance), Ongoing - A prodigy was reborn in a world of magic, into the body of a 'useless' Saintess - or so everyone thought. See how she overcomes the plots against her, makes herself powerful and collects men to her like bees to honey. Looks like reverse harem at the moment, but may be just one ML. There's magic, a bit of nation-building. Updates unstable but Author says will not drop.
5. TheUnion by CreamAndCookies (Fantasy), Completed -291 Chapters. It is fantasy medieval. Has romance, kingdom building and all the political intrigues. 
6. The Witch CEO is NOT a Demoness by SayuriHyuuga (Romance), Completed - 146 Chapters. FengJui, CEO and known to be like a dragon. Gets drunk, finds herself having a one-night stand (this may be viewed as r*pe since she was drunk) with a 'vagabond' (who is actually another CEO) that won't leave her alone now. R18.

Hi. Thanks for dropping by. Please bear in mind that I am a new author, and English is not my first language. I am writing because I find it enjoyable, and am only now finding the courage to actually pen it out for others to read.

This is a rebirth story of a girl who had lived one life, and will experience another. Follow her along her journey of discovery: of herself, as she walks an entirely new path. Yet, at the same time, she seeks to find closure from her old life. 

World background: Current Earth, with names of countries being just Country J, Country SA etc. 

First, the MC is the typical OP character. Second, it's a slice of life story mixed with OPness of MC. If you don't like Gary Sue / OP characters, with a slow story pace, then this is not for you. 

There are elements of adventure/action, romance, some comedy and a little bit of mystery.  It is also a story about friendship and the bonds we make as we grow up.

Having gradually gotten used to the strange environment, Chen Mu could already move about rather freely in the simple water world. It was especially the water pressure. The first time that he gone there, he felt as though he were about to be squished open by the terrifying water pressure.
Under those conditions, he reduced his breathing rate to once every minute, which was not a very simple matter. Still, Chen Mu did it. A nice side-benefit of adopting the deep breathing was that he could greatly reduce his heart rate, and easily enter into deep meditation.
By that time, Chen Mu could enter the deep meditative state rather easily, requiring only about two minutes.
Even better, it was only a 'Simple Water World,' and never mind breathing, if it were real, it could kill you!
He didn't have enough experience to really know how far his perceptual strength had grown. He only knew that with his current perception he could sustain a whole day's worth of card play making without becoming exhausted.
Still, he wasn't yet able to extend the scope of his perception to five meters. He had no way to make his perception extend the last half meter beyond the four and a half that he could achieve. It was as though he would lose touch with his perception if he were to extend it any further.

It was also among the cards carried by any card artisan who wanted to go frequently to the outer reaches, where the heating card was also one of the essential cards. It would enable them to eat hot food under any conditions, without having to look for tinder to start a fire. It was also used for heating when it got cold.
What had once been the arcane language of card makers then seemed understandable at a glance. Chen Mu got on top of it very quickly, and using only two days, he had already made his first one-star heating card. And by the third day his one-star heating card had already become quite perfect, with a much better power-utilization rate. Chen Mu straight away opened his hot pot and replaced the heating card with the one he had made himself. It worked well as soon as he tried it, so that even Copper was amazed.
That made Chen Mu immediately fascinated with transforming all of the things in his house. The fresh food cupboard's cooling card, the lighting card . . . he even excavated the one-star jet stream card which he had originally thought so useless, and made it useful. Although the jet stream from a one-star card wasn't very powerful, it was perfect for a cooling breeze.
Wherever a card was being used in the house, Chen Mu would be able to find a book about it, and do it himself. After he had satisfied himself with what he could make, Chen Mu bought a large quantity of books such that his house became mostly materials and books. Chen Mu benefitted greatly from the foundational knowledge that he had learned from that mysterious card, especially regarding the principles it expounded upon. For these few days, he was no longer only dealing with fantasy cards, since in principle those weren't essentially any different.
It was all thanks to the mysterious card that he was able to get to work so quickly.
Knock knock knock, sounded someone at the door.
"May I inquire if Mr. Chen Mu is at home? I have a delivery for you to sign for."
Chen Mu was taken aback. That was the first time he had received anything other than bills.
Opening the letter, it was a blue bordered white card, about a half a palm in size, looking like hand-crafted ivory, and feeling very fine.
Low-Grade Fantasy Card Club Membership Card.
On its surface were several ancient script characters, which it took Chen Mu a while to decipher. On the top right corner of the card was a very faintly glowing number, showing the number 'zero.' And on the lower left corner a code was engraved in shadow.
"Don't consider this to be some high-class material." Copper said in a roundabout way after looking up to see, "This membership card isn't worth anything. What is worth something are your contributions, which are now at zero, and even if you carelessly threw it on the street, no-one would pick it up."
"Contribution level?" What use is that?" Chen Mu wasn't just asking, since he felt a little ashamed, having thought just then that this card was rather valuable.
Copper stretched himself lazily before saying, "This is the method that the club has adopted to encourage people. Haven't you realized how low the threshold for entry to this club is? To select those with real ability, anyone who has an interest in the club's business makes a contribution in order to have a say." Seeing that Chen Mu was looking at him helplessly, Copper shrugged off any responsibility, "Don't look at me. I only know so much. Take a look for yourself tomorrow. Why would you ask an outsider like me?"
Low-Grade Fantasy Card Club
It was Chen Mu's first time going there, and he was unconsciously sizing up the building. Just having such a tall building in a central location of Eastern Shang-Wei City was enough to make the club's power clear. What drew Chen Mu's attention most was the exquisite fantasy card illusions floating outside the building's walls, which were constantly transforming, sometimes covering the sky with cold ice and snow, and sometimes filling the eye with green droplets. 
It was more than a person could take in, and there was some helpless surprise in Chen Mu's shining eyes. With their realism, he couldn't help comparing those constantly transforming illusions with that advertisement he had seen that time at the Two Hoop card shop. Of course, that was not the first thought which passed through Chen Mu's mind. His first thought was to wonder how much it would be worth to be able to make a fantasy card which put out such an exquisite illusion?
So, this really was a place of hidden talent, crouching tigers and hidden dragons. He didn't know who had made those fantasy cards, but whoever could make illusions as realistic as the ones emitted there was really some kind of fantastic person. Considering his own current ability, it would be hard for Chen Mu to do it.
Restraining his curiosity, Chen Mu stepped into the big building.
The scene around him completely transformed as soon as he entered the building. 
In front of him was all dark, with only constellations filling the sky, making unexplainable movements, as though he had suddenly set foot into a starry cosmos. All around his body was an endless void in all directions, with unquantifiable constellations as vast as the seas, until even the ground under his feet didn't feel real. What a shock it was! Having never experienced a scene like that, Chen Mu's eyes were suddenly shining with incomparable wonder.
"Welcome to the low-grade fantasy card club," came a very soft female voice from behind Chen Mu. 
Chen Mu quickly regained his senses, and turned around to look, where there was a professionally-dressed pretty woman with short hair standing behind him.
"This is the 'evolution of the constellations' fantasy card, which is said to be the work of the great master Chemosich, who had extremely deep accomplishment in the study of the stars. It later fell into the hands of the club president, who decided to place it here. Everyone who sees it for the first time is startled by it." She hid her chuckling in a charming manner.


This is both a work of science fiction and an exploration of the meaning of life, love, literature and art. Brainpower is no longer the main ingredient for being human in this far distant future world. Hello, this is my first time writing a techno-fantasy but I hope you'll enjoy it. There's a few things to take note of, however.

1. There is action, both melee and ranged, both magic-like and techno-like. In fact, the lines will blur.

2. This world I built is, duh, a mix of 'magic' and science. It's not exactly just magic and science coexisting, no—they are one and the same in this world. Mana rules and bending its limits is what brought about their technology. Magecraft in this world is the building of tech, and Mages are pretty much glorified scientists — it doesn't mean they can't fight, however.

3. This story still has fantasy elements. There are different races and there are dungeons. There are more 'magic-like' weapons than usual Magecraft, like Gears, and there is such things as Spirits. Mana Beasts exist and so too do Robots and Homunculi.

4. This story takes place in a noticeably advanced world, more advanced than our own in pure technological standards but still modern enough in some parts.

In a big world, in a big country, in a big city, in a big room, men in white coats ran through papers, setting tests for their latest system, an alternate world with the function of fantasy.

Through their development of VR and AR systems and the latest breakthrough in A.I. it seemed nothing but reasonable to make an escape from the dying world they were in. 

The full plan was to have most of the populace inside this game like world while they cleaned and fixed the one they called home, this was possible due a collaboration with some big countries.

The first live human test started, a man named Jakob Abrams strapped himself into the suit like machine, his goal was to change and alter the world to be fit for the influx of " Players " that will be coming in soon, add more fantasy elements such as classes to the world for appeal, and to tell the sentient beings inside of what's to come. 

After silence for a few hours from the Room, Abrams logged out of the machine and reported what happened, mission success.

After the office finished their celebration, it was time for the announcement.

The news took the world by storm, within a day thousands of requests were made, and by the end of the week it reached over 100,000 requests, and it wasn't stopping there. 

But to the world who just received Divine Mandate, most weren't so eager, most of all those who resided in a small compound, in a small building, in a small room, who were busy shuffling papers.

A story about the conquest of a Fantasy world by Apocolpytic scenarios, as Undead scorch, murder, and steal from
 the cruel world that lead to their creation, lead under the banner of the monarch. All the while the world is taken over and reused by Immortal "Adventurers"

The bright light slowly subsided, and Foo noticed that he stood in the corner of a lively plaza.

"Welcome to the city of beginnings" Sounded a monotone and almost lifeless voice.

Looking around and Foo saw that he was standing inside some sort of ritual circle. And the listless voice belonged to some sort of official that was seated close by. He had the airs of an veteran; one could feel that he had been saying that single sentence innumerable times, and was almost bored to death by it. Although his neat and scholarly robes, along with his frail build, indicated that he was not a warrior, it seemed like he would gladly pick up a sword and charge towards unbeatable enemies, just to vent his frustrations of this boring task.

By looking around to further assess his current situation, Foo noticed that there was multiple of these `teleportation circles` around, and further away was a queue of people stepping inside another lone circle, that seemed to be an outgoing teleportation circle, instead of the multiple incoming ones like the one he had come through.

The people in the queue all had medieval outfits. A couple of knights could be spotted, some that looked like priests, some merchant-like but most looked like the classical adventurers.

"Please step out of the teleportation circle, so that others may use it" Sounded the same dull voice again. Foo then quickly stepped outside of the circle, as one could not be sure if there were any kind of fail-safe that prevented another person to be teleported to the same space he occupied.

By tallying the facts Foo came to the conclusion that after he died, he was sent to this medieval world by the God. Although it could be much worse, he still felt pained over the fact that computers were most likely not existing in such a setting. But suddenly he came back to his senses. ``Priests? Teleportation circles? Magic!!`` Elated, Foo realized that it was quite likely, no actually it was a fact, that magic existed in this world. Magic! How could one not be ecstatic about magic?

And magic could explain why he suddenly had a body, although just some moments before he was just a soul. At that thought he looked down on his body, intent on figuring out the status of his new being.

He found out that his body was like the one he had before, and the clothes he was wearing was now that of a adventurer, not unlike some in the outgoing queue. It even came with a sword, a dagger and a pouch, which after further investigation showed to contain some coins. One golden coin, ten silver coins and ten copper coins.

The clothes was much more stiff than he was used to, although it was probably because it was much more resistant than just normal clothes. As it seemed to be able to protect against some minor attacks, the discomfort would probably be well worth it.

The whole getup reminded him of the fully immersive virtual reality role playing fantasy games he had played back home. Although even after some extensive testing, he could not bring up any kind of menu or status screen.

A bit disappointed that there where no game elements he was at a loss on what to do next. A game would be helpful enough to provide a tutorial, not that he usually would follow it if he could exploit *cough* explore on his own anyway, but it would be nice to fall back on when unsure on what to do. 

Another glance at the official and he got the feeling that if he were to initiate a dialog to ask some questions, he would either get into a fight as the official was obviously fed up with his job, or the official would get excited to have something to do, and thus Foo would never be able to escape from the constant blabbering of unimportant information.

Neither of the possibilities was desired, as such he resigned to his circumstances and strolled over the plaza that was filled with people passing to and fro. The plaza had different kind of stands that was selling merchandise. There was food, armor, weapons, potions and curious artifacts.

Although he was interested in the artifacts, he knew for sure that this should be a tourist trap with way higher prices and lower quality than reasonable. And he also had no idea of the value of the currency, not even the exchange rate between the different denominations. 

It could be dangerous to even look too closely at the artifact, because from the sly eyes of the seller one could be assure that if they started to speak you would end up penniless with nothing but junk in your pockets. These was masters of their trade, even if you came prepared, as long as they could sense any tiny bit of weakness they would certainly exploit you for maximum of profits.

So Foo quickly left the plaza with only a few glances on the items for sale. The feeling of relief when he exited the plaza was not to far from how it would have been to exit an ocean filled with sharks that were sniffing for blood that you might spill if you were careless.

 As a newcomer to this world, Foo knew there was only one thing that he could do in this situation. Register as an adventurer! Anyone would know that this is the proper action to take when arriving in a fantasy world. Of course, there might be a possibility that there were no such thing, but Foo had spotted quite some people that was looking quite like adventurers. There might not be a classical adventurers' guild, but he sure as hell would try to find it if it indeed does exist.

Of course, the next action after that would be to hunt some goblins or similar in the surroundings. A game would have some tutorial and quests as introduction, but this seemed more like a fantasy world, and thus the adventurer path was most likely the correct one.

Foo was no stranger to either games or fantasy worlds. In fact he was quite the avid player of the fully immersive virtual reality games in his old world. He was quite the skilled warrior, although he liked magic more. Of course, normally he could not use much of his martial knowledge in the real world, as the body in the real world was quite different from that in the games.

However currently his body felt free from the constraints that he had in the old world. It felt as if the body was able to follow his mind on a completely different level. He was confident that he could use all the hours of playing martial games to his advantage, were he to be in a fight.

 Foo suddenly snapped out of his thoughts as he arrived in front of an imposing building. The words `Adventurers' guild` was hanging above the doors. ``Lucky!`` He thought, although it was more probable it was by design that you could travel directly between the plaza with teleportation circles and the Adventurers' guild. As it was clearly an important building.

Without any hesitation whatsoever, Foo pushed open the doors and entered.

Foo, a bright young man that happens to be a computer genius, who excels in life by taking shortcuts when possible. If life was a game, he would definitely pick the easiest mode.

        Exams in school? Just read all the books once, and make sure you don’t forget the contents.

        Looking for a job? Make sure everyone around the boss knows just how perfect you are for the job. Having others bragging about your excellence is more trustworthy and gives plausible deniability.

        Quiz time? Let me just start my special search engine's voice recognition.

        Competing in soccer? Aw, how unfortunate, the opposing team 'somehow' got their clothes filled with itch-inducing powder, leading to a walkover.

        Playing a FPS game? Well, lets just have my own mouse driver software get some headshots while I watch a movie. It’s perfectly legit, as it just speeds up the response time so that it clicks before I even get to the computer.

        Gambling sites and online casinos? Data-mining, number-crunching and image recognition! By utilizing computer knowledge, solving problems is easy!

        Some might get jealous, but hey! Just be like me, and use your brains for once!

However, in the modern era, the gangsters and other shady businesses are moving their turfs towards the internet and gaming circles.

What happens when they realize that Foo was a threat to their profits?

Well, no suspense here, they killed him.




That’s the end of story... if you are to believe the god that greets him after his death.

However, can this story get a fresh new start when Foo somehow ends up in a game-like medieval fantasy world?

Or will the lack of modern tools, like his beloved computers or other modern conveniences, cut his story short yet again?

Hello, it's been a while and yeah, I'm still alive.
I'm sorry for missing the last few updates, but there's not really a lot I can do about it. Tl;dr current housing situation doesn't allow me to write all that much, while I am looking at moving there are no available options on the table for the foreseeable future. As such, I'll use this week where I'm away from home to focus on building up a backlog for Starship commander trapped in a fantasy world (god I should have chosen a shorter title) that I'm planning to finish within the next 50-ish chapters. As for Reincarnated as a shadow spectre (this story), that'll be on hold until my situation improves or I've completed Starship commander trapped in a fantasy world.

I hope to return as soon as I'm able, sorry for disappointing all of you.
