A concept known to man since the beginning of time… A concept, in which man finds their limits, where they are struck down, where man finds himself in a paradox known to haunt him till death…

Fredric Tom, an 18 year old teen, along with his little twin sister, Terry Fae, finds themselves, as well as their entire class whisked away to a land where swords and magic reigns supreme. They thought that it would be like those in novels, the templates where Heroes and Demons would have legendary battles that would decide the fate of their world.

They were dead wrong… For fear shall come to their very souls… And fear will shake them to their very core…

The planning of units and buildings only took two days with the help of the Memory Playback Potion. But of course, Chen Mo had just the numbers, with no images for reference at all.
Chen Mo had previously posted a few concept arts of the World of Azeroth, including gryphons and hippogryphs, but most of the units still lacked artwork.
As Chen Mo had so many other things on his hands, he decided to hand over the buildings and units to Qian Kun.
Qian Kun built a system according to the attack/defence types of the different units and buildings to achieve a sort of balance between different races and units.
Su Jinyu on the other hand was creating artwork for a portion of the units based on her concept art, and the rest of it were outsourced to an art company.
As for the story, Chen Mo only left the story for The Frozen Throne to Zheng Hongxi, asking to make a draft for the story (including the plot and campaign), before revising it in the future.
After assigning the jobs, Chen Mo started to work on the most important part, the foundations of the specifications for maps.
The Warcraft world editor (aka WE) was very powerful, leading to the development of many minigames.
Moreover this game birthed classic minigames such Chenghai 3C, Dynasty Warriors[1], and DotA. DotA was especially important as it started the long MOBA saga. 
Blizzard didn't know how powerful the world editor was, but Chen Mo did. Because of how useful it was, Chen Mo wanted to make sure he did it right, and even make it better than the one in his previous life.
Not only did the mainframe of the world editor needed to be good, other hero mechanisms(respawning, reviving, invulnerability, etc.) also had to be added, becoming part of the editor.
Moreover, the resources for the map were also very expansive.
The map settings included map size, terrain, texture, as well as water and land.
There were also settings such as time(night and day) which would affect the vision range as well as if they were sleeping. It could even influence the strategy for different races.
Night Elves for example, where a few of the heroes and units would get invisibility upon standing still during the night, as well as increased health regeneration and improved vision range.
Because of the limitations of the game engine, controls for Warcraft weren't as crisp as Starcraft 2 or other MOBA games, and Chen Mo felt that it was a point he could improve on.

The development of the game continued steadily.
Chen Mo would spend most of his time making the engine for the world, and would spend the remaining time making sketches of different units, buildings or areas for Su Jinyu to finish and colour.
These sketches didn't need to be as detailed as the cards as the players would mostly focus on the character models as opposed to the artwork.
As when the artworks were finished, there were still character models to work on, and after that were animations, collision boxes and many more items. This was why Chen Mo decided to focus on finishing the concept document, as it was a bottleneck for everything else.
First floor of the experience store.
"Goldfish, can you tell me what genre the game will be? Is it an RPG?" asked Wen Lingwei.
Su Jinyu replied, "Geez, relax, you'll know when it comes out."
"But the concept art is pretty good, the urge for me to help you colour them in are so strong I could barely contain myself," replied Wen Lingwei.
Jia Peng also added, "It seems related to Azeroth, but it's not a cute version this time. Perhaps it's a more realistic I Am MT?"
Su Jinyu was speechless, "You guys are underestimating the manager, is he that type of guy? The type of guy to scam players for money on the basis of a reskin?"
Wen Lingwei facepalmed, "What do you think?"
"You don't have to worry about that. This game is completely unrelated to I Am MT. It completely rests on the story from the World of Azeroth," said Zheng Hongxi.
"Isn't the World of Azeroth and I Am MT the same thing?" asked Jia Peng.
Zheng Hongxi shook his head, "Of course it isn't the same. Haven't you noticed that the story the manager posts of the World Of Azeroth is the world behind I Am MT, but the characters in I Am MT never appeared in World of Azeroth?"
Jia Peng gave it some thought, "Uhh, that's... true."
Wen Lingwei was also confused, "Why is that?"
"You guys still don't know? Names like Rogue and Priest clearly aren't normal names of Western Fantasy characters, it's just the bastardisation of their english pronunciation. I'm guessing that the manager is afraid that the people aren't ready to accept Western Fantasy, which was why he decided to make the game and animated series more cute and suited to local tastes as promotion.
"That means that I Am MT is basically a parody and has nothing to do with the actual story in Azeroth."
Everyone finally understood, "So that's why! The manager sure thinks far into the future."
Wen Lingwei scowled, "Therefore, now that the manager thinks its the right time, he decided to tell the story of the actual World of Azeroth?"
Zheng Hongxi nodded, "Exactly. I can't tell you too much, but I can tell you that the story is insane. That's right, insane."

As they were talking Chen Mo came down stairs.
"I've sent a new batch of sketches to you, Goldfish," said Chen Mo.
Everyone gathered around Su Jinyu as she opened the sketches.
It was a young man wearing dark green armor with ashen hair, with eyes filled with evil intent.
There was another sketch on the same image, a flaming skeleton horse running, as well as a two-sword with magic inscriptions on it.
The sketch also had the name of the character: Arthas Menethil, his mount Invincible, and his weapon Frostmourne.
"Is this the new Undead hero? He's so handsome!" exclaimed Su Jinyu.
Wen Lingwei also joined in, "He's so good looking! Is this the main character?"
Jia Peng said, "Umm... looks like the antagonist. That smile sends shivers through my spine."
"The sketch for Arthas is finally done? Let me see! Crazy! This is amazing!" exclaimed Zheng Hongxi.
Everyone had nothing but praises for the sketch.
Chen Mo's sketch of Arthas fully conveyed his possible good or bad nature, especially with his mount Invincible and Fortmourne, everyone were able to imagine the heroic figure of Arthas leading the Scourge to take over Azeroth.
This picture was enough to make their blood boil!
After giving the sketch another look, they had more to say about it.
Although the sketch was far from complete, it was more than enough to convey the idea and characteristics of the character. From a design point of view, it was basically perfect and could even stand toe to toe with Heavenly Ring!
Wen Lingwei said, "Alright, I've decided that I'll colour this sketch, free of charge!"

The sheer impact of this experience profoundly enchanted many gamers, myself included. Once you tasted a full dive, there was no going back to the world of touch pens and movement sensors.
I turned to Klein, his eyes watering as he stared out at the rippling fields and distant city walls.
"So is SAO your first NerveGear game, period?"
"Yeah." Klein nodded, turning his gallant face to me, like some proud samurai from the distant past.
When he maintained a serious expression, he could have been the lead actor in a period piece, but this did not reflect his real-life appearance. It was nothing more than a virtual avatar created from scratch out of a robust list of finely tuned parameters.
Naturally, I had also chosen a look befitting the hero of a fantasy anime, almost embarrassing in its shameless elegance.
Klein continued in a strong and clear voice, also likely to be falsified.
"Actually, I got SAO first, so I needed to buy the hardware just to play it. I mean, the first shipment was only ten thousand copies, right? I'm one of the lucky ones. I could remember as though it were yesterday the excitement and enthusiasm that swept through the media when Sword Art Online was announced.
The NerveGear and its revolutionary new full-dive format were so novel that the actual software to take advantage of it lagged in response. Initial offerings were simple puzzle and educational titles, a source of serious disappointment to full-blown game addicts like me.
The NerveGear creates a true virtual world. But the effect of such freedom is entirely lost when the world you inhabit is so small that an impassable wall can be found within a hundred yards in any direction. Hardcore gamers like me were initially entranced by the experience of truly being inside a game, but it was only a matter of time before we sought a killer title in one very specific genre.
We wanted an MMORPG—an online game that hosted thousands of players in the same vast world together, living, fighting, and adventuring.
Just when desire and expectations had reached their peak came the announcement of Sword Art Online, the first-ever entry in the VRMMO genre.
The game took place in a massive floating fortress made up of a hundred expansive levels. Armed with nothing but the weapons in their hands, players explored each floor, packed with fields, forests, and towns, looking for the staircase upward and defeating terrifying guardian monsters in their quest to reach the top.
Unlike typical fantasy-themed MMOs, the concept of magic spells had been largely excised from the setting, making way for a nearly limitless combination of special attacks called "sword skills." This was an intentional move to maximize the full-dive experience, forcing players to use their own bodies and swords to fight.
Skills applied not just to combat but also to crafting disciplines like blacksmithing, leatherworking, and tailoring; productive endeavors such as fishing and cooking; and even creative pursuits such as playing musical instruments. Therefore, players weren't limited to adventuring within the vast virtual world—they could literally choose their own lifestyle within the game. The first thing that came to mind when Hans saw the distant explosion of light...was how absurd whatever just happened was...

Veef also stood there, staring at the distant false star with her mouth agape. True surprise ran through their soul-bond.

'WAIT! I wasn't even trying to make that! I was just imagining how It'd look... and it just appeared!!!'

The pixie face-palmed, "That's what I meant when I said 'envisionment'! O-Okay! At least it isn't the most unfavorable of outcomes!... You could've imagined it with a conscience... or worse: a personality! If you'd have done that... all of your mana might have been drained!"

She yelled out loud, hoping to draw Hans away from his vision, which he had already dispersed.

Hans watched as she became visibly relieved by his response, and sighed.

"Good! I thought we were going to screw things up in the first five minutes!"

"Now that we're back on track...what do you want to put in here?" She gestured all around them.

"An infinite labyrinth filled to the brim with monsters and traps? A vast puzzle - adventurers won't be able to solve before being swallowed by the maw of death? There are almost too many things you can make inside here, with this much space and mana...."

Hans became unnerved all of a sudden - not at the complexity of everything Veef just said, but rather the mundane appeal of having such things in his dungeon. Those were the things he found unappealing about those fantasy games he used to play. They just didn't suit his tastes.

Hans knew just by thinking such thoughts, he was probably the worst dungeon in all of history.

...

He didn't know what made himself so excited for this room to begin with; what he expected out of it, but he knew those things weren't it.

That was when he heard Veef continue.

"But what am I saying?! That stuff all depends on what type of dungeon you plan on being..."

 

Veef, paused, "Although whatever you 'really' do start with... will be the foundation for whatever you try and do here later... "

She didn't turn to face him, though it felt like she did, mystically, and she spoke the next words that drew Hans into a short trance.



"...So..."


"What's your goal for this place? It could really be anything!..."



"O' Great Dungeon, what do you want?" She remarked sarcastically.



 

It wasn't the words spoken that brought upon this trance. It was the implication... the realization that was birthed in Hans that very moment.

After living one life restricted, he was thrust into this one anew, and along with this life came new restrictions, new pain, and new rules. For the past day of consciousness here, he subconsciously fell into the line of thinking he had those days in the hospital bed; where the very body he dominated was the restriction.

Until this moment, he believed it would be the same again; he would be bound to a place he didn't want to be, unable.... incapable of changing the fact of his destiny.

 He'd been living this way for so long, each and every day in that hospital, for ten years... it didn't cross his mind.... this opportunity.

Until...

*...What do you want?*

 

Those few words resounded in his head.

 

And something popped.

'What I want...'

"What I want?"

 

He couldn't help but recall the times he'd been asked that same question. Of course, he'd been asked too many times to count. But the only times that resounded with him, were when he was asked by his family... the people who mattered before they stopped visiting him.

When they asked... he would reply:

"I want to go home...."

But they put it off as the simple ramblings of a nine-year-old child. They threw a portable game console into his lap and wished him well.

But as his conditioned worsened, and his family (with the exception of his mother), stopped visiting (likely from the guilt of putting off visits before), Hans began to wonder what he could have done, moreover, what he would have liked to have done with his life.

And when he was asked by his mother the last time he saw her:

"Can I get you anything?.... What do you want?"

He couldn't tell her weak heart, 'I want to go outside', much less, 'I want to go home'.

so he told her instead.

"I... want to see the world... from here, of course" he laughed.

She frowned for a bit, then smiled mysteriously.

 

And next he woke, there were two books on the bed beside him.

Both were filled to the brim with illustrations.... one was a collection of landmark and landscape paintings and photographs by famous artists...

The other, hilariously, was an illustration/ concept art book from that fantasy game he liked to play. He wondered how she knew.

And from then on, his answer to that question was permanently changed, incredibly.

Those two books became his infatuation, only short-lived to match his lifespan.

The images of lands both real and fictitious, never, but at the same time always more profoundly enticing than one another. Fantasy and reality.

 Hans could feel his emotions flow through his connection with Veef, so he could tell that she knew of his turbulent thoughts.

Suddenly, Veef felt a harsh pull. And without preparation or knowledge of what had happened, collided heavily with a hard surface. The world seemed to spin, forces like gravity enacting themselves on her and driving her against the new and unseen.

Her head buzzed and ached, so much that she thought she heard noises. The pixie almost didn't realize the fact she had stuck to the object she collided with, and the vague but vast force that had stuck her with it, still "oppressed" her. And that force.... felt all too familiar.

The noises in her head became clearer, they sounded soft, unlike the hectic pounds of head injury, confusing her. They rustled and collided softly with one another like solid waves.

Like leaves.

Her eyes burst open almost instantly. Her hands gripped the solid mass beneath her, pure earth. Not one bit falsified.

 And there were no words.

To outside observers, it would appear just like any standard lounge room. Two white sofas with a couple beanbags strewn about, all facing toward a wide-screen television with a potted green in the corner. That is, if you somehow manage to ignore the several floating translucent uniform polyhedra resting quietly on the seats.

            These colourful, glowing vertex-transitive three-dimensional shapes are the Overseer's avatars, and they are currently watching television in a subspace of the Void Abyss. Well, all but one.

            "Hey Serra, you sure you don't want to watch this documentary with us?"

            "… I'm good, thanks." 

            And with a mere three words, Serra immediately shut down the conversation in a way any fellow introvert would be proud of.

            "…"

            The vague silence lengthened as the television chattered quietly in the background. The seconds turned to minutes as the room turned evermore awkward.

            "Hey, you sure? These nature documentaries from Earth are really quite good. They're talking about whales."

            "… Sean, I told you I'm not interested. I'm reading."

            "Oh cool… what are you reading?"

            "… You don't need to know."

            "Serra wanteth not to harken to thy noise, Sean. We four are enow, nay?" (Serra doesn't want to listen to your talk, Sean. Us four are enough, no?)

            "I guess so, Ai…" sighed Sean, leaning back to rest his vertices against the sofa, looking over at Maykre and Nebula who've long since been lulled asleep by the gentle voice of the documentary's narrator.

            It was quite the peaceful scene. Anybody who saw it would surely never believe that these incredibly human-like beings, casually conversing like friends, were the gods of the world.

            Seemingly uncomfortable with the ever lengthening silence, Sean inquired, "Say, how do you guys spend your time mostly? I don't recall ever asking."

            "… I mostly just read. I like watching the humans doing human things on Earth too, I guess."

            "Aye, 'tis quite leisurely to beholdeth," concurr'd Ai, "the humans art truly fascinating." (Yeah, it's quite calming to watch, the humans are truly fascinating.)

            Redirecting the conversation back towards his own interests as always, Sean queried, "Do you guys watch anime? I discovered anime recently and I'm enjoying it immensely."

            "… I've seen some, but I prefer to read the source materials. It's better." crowed Serra.

            "Oh sweet. What kind of stuff do you read? Personally, I'm halfway through reading 'Forestfallen'"

            "… Oh, I've finished that one. It gets better near the end, when th-"

            "-Don't spoil!" barked Sean aggressively, giving Serra a brief, sharp glare.

            "Aye, thou ought seeketh to spoileth aught, blunderbuss." (Yeah, you should try not to spoil anything, idiot.)

            "… Sorry. I didn't mean to."

            "It's ok, it's ok," reassured Sean, before immediately kicking the conversation down a different path, "speaking of which, have you guys watched or read 'Tales of Astralorr'?"

            "I haven't hath heard of yond." (I haven't heard of that.)

            "… Neither."

            Taking this as an invitation to continue his one-sided chatter, Sean inhales deeply and immediately begins to babble, "Well, it's a pretty novel concept, pretty much what happens is a guy gets hit by a truck and just straight up fucking dies, then he gets sent to the world of 'Astralorr' where he gains some pretty ridiculously bonkers magical powers and essentially becomes god himself by slaughtering dragons and stuff."

            Several seconds passed, as Ai and Serra briefly watched to ensure his spiel had indeed ended.

            "… That's not a novel concept. At all." Serra states bluntly.

            Undeterred, he continued, "Well, it is for me. It's really cool I think you guys should watch the anime."

            "I, for one, has't hath nought heardeth of a story liketh yond. Although, perhaps yond is because I doth not followeth television nor anime," commented Ai, "I am verily interested, perhaps I ought to beholdeth such media one day." (I, for one, haven't heard of a story like that. Although, perhaps that is because I don't follow television or anime. I am certainly interested, maybe I should watch it sometime.)

            "Actually, since we're here, how about we all watch it together? As a group?"

            "I seeth nought reason to declineth." agreeth'd Ai amiably. (I see no reason to decline.)

            "… I guess I don't have anything else to do. If Ai wants to, I'm up."

            "Wait, didn't you just say you weren't interested in watching anything because you're reading?"

            "… I'm not interested in documentaries. They tend to put me to sleep before telling me anything I even remotely care about."

            "Wow, shit that was blunt," winced Sean, "that's something I would've expected to hear from Maykre, not you. Speaking of which, should we ask them if they want to watch too?" inquired Sean, pointing a glowing vertex at the two resting on the sofas.

            "… If you feel you have to, I suppose."

            "Sean, heedest hither. Them folk art asleep. We doth not wanteth to waketh them up yet. Prithee, maintaineth patience." (Sean, listen here. They're asleep. We don't want to wake them up yet. Please, stay patient.)

            A brief sigh slipped from Seans' non-existent lips, "Yeah, you're making sense. Lets just wait for them to wake then."

            "Heyoooo~, morning sleepyheads." chirped an animated Sean.

            The avatar previously resting quietly on the sofa looked around the room tiredly, as mumbles fell out of his imaginary mouth. "Ugh… morning? The Void Abyss does not have the concept of day… am I mistaken?"

            "It's a figure of speech, Maykre. You're still half-asleep, aren't you?"

            After briefly conversing with Maykre, Sean sees Nebula's avatar briefly begin to flicker from the corner of his vision, indicating she had also awoken.

            "Oh, you're up too Nebula?"

            "~Huh? What's up? Are you talking to me? What're you saying?"

            "Us three art going to beholdeth upon an anime called 'Tales of Astralorr', doth thee desireth to joineth us?" (Us three are going to watch an anime called 'Tales of Astralorr', do you want to join us?)

            "~Uhhhh, can I decline? What's it about?" questioned a very confuzzled Nebula.

            "Actually… hold on. I think I have heard of it. No idea what it is about, though, other than some guy dies." thought Maykre out loud, tilting his avatar in much the same way a dog tilts its head.

            "~Do you understand how overwhelming vague that was, Maykre?"

            "You can not say that I am wrong, can you?" he retorted in his signature, blocky voice.

            Pushing himself back into the conversation, Sean clarifies, "Yeah, well you're right Maykre. But more specifically, it's about a guy who dies and is brought back."

            "Oh, so it is a resurrection or reincarnation story or something of the sort?"

            "Yeah, but the twist is… he gets reincarnated into a completely different world, with magic and other fantasy-esque stuff. Pretty cool, huh?"

            "Woah. I have not heard of a story like that, certainly not." replied Maykre in a very sarcastic tone.

            Completely oblivious, Sean responds, "Yeah, I know! Very unique."

            "…"

            "…"

            "So, wanna watch it?"

            Sighing at Seans' utter inability to read the mood, Maykre replied briefly, "Are you just going to keep pestering me until I do, Sean?"

            "Of course not! I would never do that, right..?"

            "You do that all the time."

            "Well, this time is different."

            Seeing Maykre get nowhere with Sean, Nebula decides to chip in, "You know, I doubt that. You say that every time."

            "Just watch it. Y'all won't regret it, I swear."
