Finally, we got a raw material we needed. Yet, somehow the universe, whose name happened to be Cytortia the annoying, decided that I had to wake up as four in the morning.

"Why am I here?" I said and sniffed something burning. "And what exactly is that awful smelled?"

"I..." Cy looked bashful

"The goddess accidentally burnt the brownies," Ebony looked at her smoking sorry excuse for an Oven. "I should had that thing replaced age ago. You elf friend had been crying since 2 a.m. in the morning for the lost brownies. It was getting annoying."

Firstly, who made the cake during midnight and, secondly, who even ate it but given the general weirdness I decided to ignore that

"Get up! We need all the had we can get," Melodina yelled carrying a bucket of soil and slamming its in front of us. "Do you think transforming the melt into ingot and then forging it into a blade in two days is easy? Even my mother and I couldn't do that without help. If you had time to complaint fetch a plant. And Ms. Useless goddess please made yourself useful and started blessing this soil now."

Cy groaned and the natural energy started filling the room. Her [ Divine Center Authority] started gathering mana and infusing them into the soil.

Lux walked out of the toilet still sniffing for her lost brownies but still tried her best to help Ebony preparing the pit.

Meanwhile, I summoned several powder using the [Arrival of the Dream]. The Legend of Asthur contianed several fairy powders that gave blessing to weapon and soil so I decided to pour it in.

Wait a minute, could I blessed the weapon with the power of Fairies from the legend? The same way Banishing Blade was created. Hey Central, can I add the detail on how the object in my stories is created.

'Yes,' Central said. 'As long as the detail didn't contradict each other. In fact I recommend this. The more detail and richer the lore become the more easily it will be for you to use the Artifact."

Yep, let added the detail on the sword's creation.

"So why are we blessing the soil?" I asked.

"The ancient druid method emphasis require the melt to be pour into a hole and buried under the blessed soil," Ebony grunted grabbing a shovel and starting to dig the hole surrounded by magic circles. "I learn this technique from a drunken elf-blacksmith. It is a total coincidence I actually got my hand on one of the text and actually decipher the process."

The succubus looked up and shouted.

"Scathach, how is the melt!"

The Badger adjusted the control on the furnace, frowned and hit the control panel with her fist. The control panel gave a beep and she looked back with a toothy grinned.

"Yep, everything is totally fine," Scathach said reaching her hand and grabbing the document. "We nearly miss the critical temperature but we should stabilize at the eutectic point of this mysterious ore and Synthetic stone. Good thing we actually perform some analysis beforehand."

I agreed, getting the machine that used magic to analyse the phase of the ore must not be easy. Our two grand-master blacksmith must extracted a teeny sample of the ore, melt it, solidified it, heated it to reset the micro structure and then repeat the process again under a clanking analyst machine that should breakdown by now. Only after spending six hours without any break did they finally got what they called the phase diagram.   

Finally, after thirty minute more heating, Lux and Melodina, under strict observation from Scathach pour the molten metal into the hole. I silently gaped at the absurd amount of protective gear they were wearing before gaping harder as the circle we had draw around the hole started glowing orange like a molten metal.

"Toss in the soil," Ebony said. "Covered it up as fast as possible!"

We started unloading the soil into a molten metal. The soil sank into the metal which started to glow silver. Finally, as the last of the soil was threw into the hole we got a uneven mixes of Earth and silvery metal.

"Unbelievable," Ebony said looking at the solidify masses in the ground with a sense of loss. "I never think about doing something like this. Normally, this consolidating process was completely in the new water. Hell, I couldn't believe you guys convince me into doing it. It is completely theoretical."

"Now what do we have to do next?" Scathach asked

"Summon a god to kick-started the ingot creation," Ebony said. "We need to used said god's favor worshiper to do it. Someone who was in contact with the god in question would be the best. In fact, the more priest and priestess the merrier."

"Ah," Scathach looked at Cy and me. "I see."

'I think they expected us to called Milady down.' Central ground her metaphorical teeth. 'The insolence'

"Great, Satholia was barely able to exerted any influence into the world. How do I and Cy summoned her."

"Through a gift," Melodina said. "The priest must blessed the metal with a powerful magic or skill. Then the essence of their god will be summoned to bless the ingot"

Oh that was easy.

Too my surprise, Cy stretched out her hands.

"Anyone had a syringe," Cy said. "The blood of nature goddess was the best blessing I could give."

"Your blood? wow," Scathach eyes' widen. "I don't think you had it in you."

"Why don't you use a knife?" Melodina said. "I think god often blessed weapon that way."

"Its hurt and unhygienic." Cy argued.

"Cy," Lux smile with that so familiar cringe. "That reason was tad underwhelming."

I ignore them and summoned an Fairy Queen out of my internal world. A tiny golden fairy dressed in white dress appeared and started floating over the mixes.

Everyone stared.

"Who is she?" Cy asked. "Her aura felt like a fairy and a pretty powerful one but I never seen a type like her before."

"A Fairy Queen who once bless one of the most powerful anti-magic blade of all time." I replied. "I will give the ore part of the blessing, namely exorcism ability and magical warding."

"You can do that?" Cy looked at me like I grew the third head. "I didn't know you could do that?"

"I can summoned anything from my personal fictional world, even if it is a wish granting fairy queen."

"She  is so beautiful," Lux said in awe.

"Interesting," Ebony said deciding weather or not to poke my fairy with a stick. "I would like to dissect her...can I run some test?"

"Mom, please," Melodina said. "The project is counting on it. I don't want our shop to face our first failure."

"Fine, fine," Ebony said. "Take it for that blase attitude of your to ruin everything."

The queen hovered for a few more second folded her pixie wing and began to pray. Light shone from fairy body and sacred magic flow from her and into the mass of ore from the ground, sprinkle it with glittered of pink, purple and gold dust, causing the ore to glow pink.

Yep, it's pink. Please don't act like an uneducated philistine. Pink is a very civilize and manly color agreed among the Joestar's bloodline.

Cy followed suit. She bit back her tears, took out a surgical knife and slid across her palm. The drops of red blood began to drop onto the ore.

So much for a syringe...well Cy had medical magic. She could heal this in no time.

The moment the blood landed on the mixes, the lamp of glowing pink substance started glowing several shade of green before shooting a light shoot up to the sky.

Illma Xoldia Road slammed another man head  into the pavement and stomped down.

"Seriously, the outlaw of this town is so boring," Illma said. She was solely disappointed. Here she came to this slum looking for some kid to take back home with her. Her father taught her that she should be looking for the desperate. The one who would do anything to survive.

She remember him bringing several children home, starved them, gave them a weapon to kill each other for a piece of meat. He punished and rewarded the broken children to gloom them to perfectly heartless killing machine and she had been with him the entire way. Her father trained her with love and care to surpass him. Shame he vanished and never come back, tasking her with surpassing him before leaving.

Xoldia smiled. Of course she would surpass him. She was his daughter after all.

'So misguide...a pity indeed' whispered a woman voice.

A shiver went down her spine.

Illma Xoldia Road instantaneously spun behind her to see what the people across the Frontier was witnessing and it filled her with a sense of absolute irrevocable defeat. What was shining above her instinctively made her question all her life choices. The irreversible sense of doubt and what could have been was pressing on her like an immovable weight of the universe.

Xoldia forced this feeling down and stared at the sky helplessly.

The black sky that was originally dark as despair it self was filled with more star than the hope of humanity. A massive aurora of cosmic rainbow snaked across the sky like a sense of evil's inevitable doom.

Inside the workshop, a goddess clad in white dress and rainbow aura landed into existance. The moment she stepped on the ground, Cy's herb garden and Ebony's pot of dying-plant bloomed brilliantly. There were a loud 'tud' and everyone just watch slack jaw as a badly balanced table suddenly got repair to perfect condition. Dirt and dust dissipated from the workshop like it had been teleport to another dimension. The cracking paint renewed itself against cause and effect. Several of Ebony's slapdash machine got repaired by raw force of awesomeness against any law of logic and time.

Everything in the room got repair, shined and restored into its most perfect state.

Everyone was dumbstruck.

I gave Satholia a mental pat in the back. Awesomeness was a force. You could literally make people ran from terror or demolish stuff with it but, seriously, how bloody awesome you had to be for things to fix itself at your mere presence?

'Hello everyone', Satholia said, waving her hand. 'Are you doing okay? Ah, you had discovered some of mana's secret. Faster than I anticipate."

Everyone was not okay. Scathach and Ebony, two of the biggest cynic in the room dared not to stand before the goddess of optimism and thus selected the cynic's answer for problem they couldn't solve: they leaped behind the newly fixed table and hope in vain that the goddess of good did not notice them. Personally, I think she did, but all-benevolent Satholia elected to ignore them.

Lux don't know what to do and thus done the traditional greeting to her patron god. She kneel like a squire about to be knight. Hey is she praying? Is that a prayer. What are you praying for?

As for Cy, good god! She already set up a wooden table and a pot. Hey, are you lighting an incense. Don't tell me you do that with your master too? Wait, you were also a god aren't you? Why are you praying?

And Melodina...oh great. Developer! Melodina.exe just crash. Anyone had a reboot manual.

'Ah, Rem,' my boss chided. 'It is a tradition to ceremoniously asked for blessing when a high-ranking god came to visit. Personally, I would told them I don't support such a tradition but I know it won't convince them.'

'Sorry, Venerable Satholia," Cy waved her incense. 'I apologize for failing to educate my dolt of a friend. I am ashamed that I fail properly apologies for my panic reaction back when we first met. My fellow comrade failed to inform me about your task and blessing. But today, as per ancient heavenly tradition, I beseech you as my Senior to grant me blessing of victory.'

'Of course my dear, may victory be with you,' Satholia smiled with the power of thousand puppies video. It was super-effective, my heart was melting.

The she turned toward Lux.

'Dear girl, you cheer up pretty nicely. Be mindful with calories thought. And don't worry about reaching the A-rank... I guarantee the moment you master this blade ability, you will got what was denied from you for so long."

She turned toward Cy.

'Still had a long way to go, my dear,' She smiled. 'Sorry about this but I the limitation place by this reality forced me to leave you in the dark about... your teeny problem.'

"Venerable Satholia, may I panic," Cy said shaking in her boot.

'Go on, little Cy,' Satholia smiled again. I think somewhere in the world someone hit a lottery jackpot. 'There are not shame in yelling what you are thinking right now.'

"Oh, praise you benevolent one," Cy took a deep breath. Here it come.

"IT'S A FREAKING DRAGON BOSS," Cy waved her arm like a pygmies in an apocalypse before noticing that her hand had healed and calm down in an instant.

"Wow, thank you for the healing aura."

This girl's ability to flip flop just rank up...good goddess.

'No problem, it a what my presence do anyway.' Satholia smiled and somewhere in the Universe and author in poverty won Pulitzer's prize. 'Although I had to tone my power down considerably because the universe is a whiny spoil kid who rather self destruct than be saved.'

"Yeah, that must be annoying" Cy said before resuming her panicking stage. "BUT THE DRAGON?"

'I am confident you can handle it,'  Satholia said looking worriedly around the room. 'Now if the universe can stop throwing a hissy fit and let me help you, it will already be done a month ago. But no! It either imploding reality or the hard way. But now let focus on the sword...just how many blessing I could jam into it? Let go with that shall we?'

Satholia cough and declared. Every sylabel caused a breach of ingot to glee from the ground centimeter by centimeters.

'I the queen of center, had commission the creation of this steel. It shall be the first of the Harmonic Treasure. The ever-changing blade of exorcism. The treasure of nature. Crystallization of my divine wrath. Only one with a heart of my Paladin may lift this weapon. May this sword be used as the symbol to bring understanding and harmony.'

Satholia glowed with Rainbow light.

'This sword will be name [Historia]. Tomorrow strike noon let those who worship evil knew that the first of my blessing had finally arrived to... bring... karma..."

Satholia figures faded leaving an ingot of golden metal behind.

"Wow," Cy said. "That was dramatic."

"Unlike someone I know," Melodina looked at that said someone. "Mom, what do you think about that golden ingot."

Ebony crept from behind the table, plucked the ingot up from the ground and tapped it.

"Excellent sound and impact absorption," Ebony said when she decide she heard nothing. "But which goddess is that? But somehow looking at her made me so ashamed of myself that I uncontrollably try to hide. Who is she?"

"Trust me you don't want to know about her." Scathach said biting her nail furiously. "So this is the Ultimate One. Goddammit what is that irrational fear. Now I know why Artemis and Apollo decided to face essay rather than her wrath...scary as hell."

"Yes!"

That surprising out of place sound came out of nowhere and we took a look at Lux taking a batch of perfectly made chocolate brownies out of the oven.

"Isn't that supposed to be burnt?" Ebony asked incredulously.

"Our goddess unburnt the brownies" Lux clasped her hand gratitude. "Oh almighty one I thank for your generous gift."

Okay is it just me or the star seemed to say 'no problem'.

But anyway.

"Amen," I said. All hail she who reverse time itself to granted us this blessed confectioneries. Let her victory be swift and inevitable.

Melodina took a bite from one of the brownies.

"Is it normally this good?"

I agreed the taste was absurdly rich even by Cy's standard.

"No," Cy said as Lux shove several down her gullet. "She must have done something with it."

"Great...where do I sign up for the next concession." Melodina said. "How many incense I need again?"

To all my friends from our fair planet that might be reading this. I know things look desperate. I felt the same terror you felt when the Demonic Continent and Emma Enterprise took over the Middle East and half of Asia.

Admittedly, I am not on one our continents right now. I am currently traveling on an endless journey with my new comrades... the goal of our Odyssey is far from over...

The Demonic Continent will not rest until all other races is subjugate or wipe out. On the other side, the Holy Order will burn all that reject their world wield in hell of holy fire. The elves of Lightwell had allied themselves with Emma Enterprise and the Isle of Knowledge in an attempt to obtain monopoly over all wealth and power Phantasia had to offer. I ran out of the palace as fast as I could, though I was careful not to be seen.
The door however, was a little rusty and was a little hard to unlatch, but I luckily managed to do it without opening it too wide, slipping out of it, then closing it enough for me to reopen when I needed to go back before running out as fast and as far as I could.
It took a while, but I was suddenly met by the city lights which made me smile as I saw everything around me up close, I had always seen them from my chamber's window, but never in front of me.
I didn't realize that I was standing in the middle of the road until a car honked its horn at me causing me to jump in fright and blush at the man who was driving, he shook his head at me and I quickly walked to the side walk and smiled as I watched the beautiful night sky, the lights, the different shops, couples, everything seemed surreal that I feared waking up in the palace, and this being nothing but a simple dream, however, I knew that it wasn't, I was really out of the palace.
The smell of something being cooked caught my senses and I found my feet guiding me toward a bakery where a fresh batch of cookies and different pastries was coming out of the oven, an old woman and an old man taking them out together, they seemed to be a husband and wife as the man looked at the woman with such gentle eyes and she smiled as she looked at the goods they were making.
I smiled looking at the pair, never in my life had I seen my parents look at each other like that, I had even believed that love did not exist and was only in fairy tales or movies, but here I was witnessing one of the simplest forms of love, just a glance at his wife made him smile and just a glance from her husband made her blush.
The man was the first to see me as he smiled and opened the door for me, but I blushed and took a step back not really knowing what to tell the man, I have been watching him and his wife that I forgot that his attention could be caught by that simplest action.
"Come inside dear, it's a cold night" he said softly, I blushed, though I did not feel cold, the night air having not hit me yet, but he was right, it was a chilled evening.
"What would you like to drink or eat?" He asked softly, his eyes were big brown ones as he looked at me, gentleness like no other could be seen through them and I could not help but smile at him.
"But I do not have any money" I said looking at the man, I could tell that this was a shop as I saw the cashier, the tables, and the display, but I had run out of the palace in such a hurry that I forgot to bring anything with me that would allow me to pay for anything I desired, not that I had anything to pay with in the first place.
"It is no problem dear, it's on the house" the old woman said softly, her eyes met mine and I could help but smile at her kindness, looking at the couple, I couldn't understand why mother had always claimed that the outside world was not a safe place "would you like to try the cookies? They're freshly baked"
The woman's offer almost made my mouth drool, their cookies' smell hit my nostrils from outside the shop, and having smelled them up close, they just seemed to tingle a sense of want in me, I nodded biting my bottom lip to prevent my smile from widening.
"Take a seat dear" the woman smiled at my reaction, amusement filling her expression.
"And here's some hot chocolate to warm your insides as well" the old man said softly, he put a white mug filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows as the old woman brought a white plate with three hand sized cookies, these were the largest cookies that I've ever seen, the ones in the palace were small ones and I was never allowed to have more than one or on rare occasions two.
"Thank you" I said shyly, the man and woman smiled as the man wrapped his arm around the woman's waist, pulling her closer to him, he kissed her temple and I couldn't help but admire their relationship, a part of me wishing to have one like theirs when I married one day.
"You are most welcome dear" the woman smiled, a few more people entered the bakery, all of them heading toward the cashier, some ordering cookies, others ordering brownies, drinks like coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, I smiled as I took a bite out of the chocolate chip cookie almost moaning in delight as the beautiful taste filled my taste buds, I had never tried anything like this before.
"I take it you like it?" The old man asked looking at me, his wife was taking the money from a couple who looked to be in their mid-thirties, the woman wore a red jacket which reached her mid-thigh and black jeans while the man wore a black leather jacket and black jeans, his arm wrapped around her waist while she laid her head over his chest as they looked at the old couple.
"I love it!" I said honestly, the couple smiled warmly at me before nodding at the paying young partners as they took a seat on the table beside me.
"First time here?" The old man asked, I nodded, I had lived in this kingdom my whole life and yet I've never tried any if the goods they had in it.
"Where are you from?" The old woman asked looking at me, her eyes gentle as she spoke, I debated whether or not to tell the truth, but if I did then they might report me to the palace, and if they did, then I was as good as dead, well not literally, but I'd end up locked up in that tower.
As if for my luck, the door of the bakery opened revealing an attractive man who had the woman who was sitting with her lover momentarily forget him as she stared at the mysterious man, his aura said everything that meant confidence as he headed toward the cashier, our eyes met, blue to green and I could swear that I felt like my heart was about to explode at the sight of him.
Giving me quick nod before turning to the old woman who smiled at him.
"One coffee please, and some of those cookies, they smell delicious"

“Don’t get me wrong” the hybrid king said looking at the human king, his eyes blue eyes piercing the human king’s green ones, it was like he was begging for the king to object, but he knew that he couldn’t it was his people’s life on the line “but this is just a mere game of thrones”
“The child is not even born yet, and we do not know if it’s a boy or God forbid, a girl” the human king glared at the hybrid who was making a bargain with him over his own child.
“I did not say that it had to be this child King Leonardo” the hybrid king smiled his eyes genuine as he looked at king Leonardo.
“And yet, you are forcing me to make a bargain over my own child King Niklaus” King Leonardo snapped.
“I am not forcing you King Leonardo, I am merely giving you the option, should I marry your child, then your kingdom is safe, and should you object, then you are forced to accept us on your realm, with your people, until of course our creatures manage to overthrow all of you” the look on King Leonardo’s face told King Niklaus that he had already gotten what he wanted, which was all he needed to hear right now.
“Should my daughter be born, and come to age, she will marry you” King Leonardo said in defeat, the hybrid smiled and nodded at King Leonardo.
“Pleasure doing business with you King Leonardo”

"Dean, get down!" Luca yelled at me.

I ducked just in time as a spear tip pierced the space where my head was only a second ago.

Now, I wasn't usually cool with my kid brother giving me orders but this time was an exception. After all, Luca probably just saved my life.

Glancing up, I saw the spear's charred blade mere inches from my face. Wispy black vapor spilled out of its edge. The sight of it sent a cold shiver running up my spine as if death had just brushed my cheek.

"Dean, keep moving!" Luca yelled again.

His warning felt like a splash of cold water on my face. It saved me from giving in to the sudden fear that was clawing its way into my brain, reminding me that there was no room for panic. This was a time for action.

I dodged a second spear thrust aimed at my fair-skinned face. In the next motion, I drew my falchion from its sheath strapped to my belt with my right hand and then sent it forward in an arc. Thanks to its own charred edge, the blade sliced through the spear wielder's leather vest and cut into the thick skin underneath as easily as if I was cutting butter. 

A howl of pain reached my ears, nearly giving me pause to reconsider my action, but my falchion's momentum continued. Its shadowblade slashed through thick skin and soft fleshy parts and out the other side in a spray of blood.

As soon as I finished my first slash—the falchion's own wispy black vapor trailing in a line through the air—I twisted my wrist one-hundred-eighty degrees and sent the sword back down the path it came from.

Blood and guts spilled out of the x-shaped wound I'd cut across my attacker's stomach, and with a final gasp for life, my enemy tumbled forward and crashed onto the dirt by my feet.

The faint metallic scent of blood wafted out of the corpse and assaulted my nostrils, causing my nose to wrinkle in displeasure. 

Precious seconds ticked by while I just stared at the dead body. 

It certainly wasn't my first kill—and it most definitely wouldn't be my last—and yet I couldn't repress the sickening feeling forming in the pit of my stomach. I couldn't stop my hands from shaking. Another fairy was dead because of me.

Yeah, you heard right. I, fifteen-year-old Dean Dapper, was a fairy slayer.

Make no mistake, the ugly face staring back at me with its lifeless, bulbous eyes probably didn't deserve the guilt I felt for killing it. Certainly, the pointy, crooked nose that someone had broken one too many times, and the cracked, yellowing tusks peeking out of the misshapen mouth made this creature so repulsive it was hard to feel any pity for it—but I did. 

I couldn't help it. My brain was just wired that way. Although I knew if I hadn't taken its life it would have taken mine. Probably in the most gruesome way, too. Hobgoblins were mean like that. 

Yeah, you definitely didn't mishear me this time either. I said hobgoblin. They're real. Hobs are actually a race of fairy, which, believe it or not, is just as real as you or me. 

Just like in the old fairy tales, there are many kinds of fairy. Some so beautiful that the sight of them would turn untrained mortals into sappy, love-struck fools for the rest of their short lives. Others so ugly they're literally the stuff children's nightmares are made from. However, no matter what they look like, whether fair or foul, most fairies are rotten to the core. They're petty and cruel creatures who have enormous egos you couldn't fit into a house if you tried. They think anyone who doesn't look like them is an inferior being, and that goes double for humans like me and Luca who possess no fay blood inside us. 

Now, you might be wondering why two human teenagers were out and about killing fairies. The short answer was that we'd been roped into fighting in a war of succession that's been ongoing for almost five hundred years. Tonight was no exception. Luca and I, along with the hundred-man unit we were part of, were in the middle of invading the fairy fort of a rival clan whose defenders also numbered roughly a hundred. 

As fairy fort's go, this one was rather tiny. It was just a broken ring of white stones—about ten to fifteen feet in height and evenly spaced between each other—gathered at the top of a low, circular, barren hill. 

While I contemplated on the mess Luca and I were in, a second hobgoblin soldier charged me. 

It had a tall, lean frame that would have given it an intimidating aura if only the grey-tinted leather armor it wore wasn't a size too big for it. Dark brown skin pulled taught over an angular face that had comparably uglier features to the one I'd just defeated. Long and unruly braided hair trailed behind the hobgoblin as it quickened its step toward me.

The hobgoblin raised knobbly arms and lifted a battle ax with both hands. Long, spindly fingers wrapped tightly around the wooden handle. The charred ax head blazed. Wispy black vapors leaked out of it.

Still, the threat of impending bodily harm didn't worry me much because I knew the ax would never reach me. Luca would arrive first.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Luca sprint forward. He was a blur of movement that caught the enemy unaware. 

With a single swing of his shadowblade—a heavy-looking broadsword mounted on an iron crossguard and hilt—severed the hobgoblin's head from its shoulders.

I clapped in appreciation while I watched the head thump down to the uneven ground.

"Nice assist, Luca," I said, genuinely impressed at how easy he made killing monsters look.

Luca swiveled his head in my direction.
 
His wavy hair, red like mine but much longer, almost shoulder-length, framed the sun-kissed face with the refreshing smile plastered on it. 

Now, a casual observer who didn't know my little brother might have thought his smile genuine, but I knew better. I could see it in the depths of his brown eyes. They had a haunted look to them. Clearly, they possessed the same soul-crushing sadness reflected in mine.

Luca was only fourteen, but at five feet and nine inches, he was taller than me. He was also more muscular. You would expect as much seeing as how he swung that broadsword around pretty often. In contrast, I was three inches shorter, thinner, and had fairer skin than him. My red hair was cut short and styled in the same side-parted haircut as your typical action hero.

Luca and I both wore the same armor, a low-quality leather vest and shoulder pauldrons dyed in the Trickster Pavilion's midnight blue colors. We wore wool pants and old leather boots that showed too many signs of wear and tear. In fact, the only equipment we carried worth stealing was our shadowblades, my falchion and Luca's broadsword. As they were both bronze tier, they'd naturally fetch reasonable prices at any auction house. It was one thing to be thankful for. The clan may treat us with disdain but at least they gave us good weapons to fight and die with.

"Can you stop spacing out… this is a battlefield, you know," Luca complained.

"Sorry… my bad," I replied.

Luca shook his head at me before glancing back to where we came from. "We're too far out…"

He was right.

South of us, our unit had formed an offensive line that stretched the bottom of the southern hillside. Ahead of them, the fairy fort's defenders formed their own defensive line to repel our siege. As their position was elevated, they obviously held the terrain advantage, which meant our side would have a rough time pushing forward.

Luca walked over to my side. The south wind whipped at our faces while we surveyed the battle.

"We should move, Dean… we're sitting ducks out here," he nodded toward our unit. "Should we head back and help them?"

"Would it kill you to call me big brother?" I grumbled.

"Maybe if you start acting like one," he countered.

I sighed inwardly. It was challenging to have such a capable little brother who didn't need to rely on me at all.

"We're fine. We killed the only two guards who saw us. I doubt anyone else will notice two teens climbing up the side of the hill in all this chaos," I reasoned.

I was mostly right. Earlier, while the two armies prepared for battle, Luca and I ignored our commander's orders and broke off from our unit. Instead, we circled around the eastern slope of the chocolate-colored hill so we could climb it unobstructed by the defenders who'd focused on our main attack force. Midway up, we encountered and defeated the only two guards stationed there. As foolhardy plans went, things were going pretty well.

From our new elevated vantage point on the hillside, I now had a good view of the fort's defenses. My eyes scanned the scene before me—the battle was going just like I thought it would.

Despite our attackers' determination to climb the hill, the fairy fort's well-placed defenses repeatedly kept them at bay. Separate groups of defenders scattered across the hillside, charging the weakest points in our line which had stretched itself too thinly along the southern slope. Their shadowblade spears crashed onto our unit's shields, forcing us back a step for every two we made forward. 

Projectiles rained down from above—arrows with charred-tipped heads, giant boulders that rolled through predetermined paths down the hill, even mid-sized fireballs from the lone mage standing near the hilltop. In the wake of this onslaught, our troops could do nothing but crumble slowly.

A cacophany of sounds assaulted my ears. Soldiers screamed threats into each other's faces as they squared off. Shadowblades banged on metallic shields. Cries of pain soared high as arrowheads pierced into flesh. It was chaos.

"Bunch of incompetent idiots," I whispered.

"Why? What do you see?" Luca asked.

"We're stretched out too thin… the whole line is in danger of breaking," I deduced. "They need to reform and gather closer to the center. With more men together they might have a chance of breaking through the defenses and get higher up the hill where the enemy arrows won't be as effective."

Luca hefted his broadsword's blade over his right shoulder. "Wouldn't that just make them a bigger target?"

"Only if they kept up this slow pace… but one big push forward could turn this whole battle around," I explained.

Luca glanced my way. "Is that what your Fool's Insight is telling you?"

To be clear, Luca didn't actually call me a fool. He was referring to the gift bestowed on me by the clan leader. Lowly humans like me who didn't have a drop of fairy blood in our bodies couldn't wield the arcane powers most fairies possessed. To make us more useful in battle, fairies gifted humans with abilities that enhanced our natural talents. Mine was Fool's Insight. It was a power that enhanced my sense of sight to a disturbingly high degree, allowing me to absorb and process all the visual information around me into useful insight.

"No, I don't need it to see the mess our commander put us in," I reasoned.

It wasn't just that I didn't need to use the power, I also didn't want to. Fairy gifts were double-edged swords that caused problems equal to the boons they provided. Overusing Fool's Insight meant I would later have to deal with temporary blurry eyesight akin to near blindness. Such a debuff would prove fatal in a battlefield like the one we were in.

"You think Commander Roselle's plan will fail?" Luca asked.

"It already has," I answered. "That arrogant pixie wouldn't know what strategy was even if it jumped out and bit him in the face…"

Luca sighed. "If he survives, we'll be getting another whiny reprimand about breaking away and doing our own thing, for sure. You know how he is about rules…"

I grinned at Luca. "Not unless we help turn this dire situation around, little brother."

"You have a plan?" Luca sounded skeptical.

"When have I not?" I answered. 

Luca lowered his broadsword tip first and impaled it onto the soft earth where it sank a good two inches. "It's probably another reckless idea..."

"What we're doing is called gallantry, not recklessness," I countered.

I pointed to the top of the hill.

Around seventy to eighty yards above us, the barren hill that was the color and surface texture of chocolate brownies peaked into a low rise encircled by a ring of white stones made visible by the large golden moon that was native to this realm.

"See what I see?" I asked.

Luca gazed in the direction I pointed. After a while, he shrugged. "You know I don't…"

"I see a path to victory," I said, confidently.

"Uhuh, and how exactly are we supposed to win this?" Luca asked with an impassive face that seemed unconvinced by my declaration.

My grin grew wider. "Follow me."

Dean Dapper leads two lives. By day, he’s your average teenager enduring the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the mundane human world. The fairy dropped like a rock. Dart Sand zoomed to the floor. His toes sank into the fluffy carpet. 

As usual, he'd dusted someone without trying. 

"I've got to stop doing that."

What did a fairy expect when she collided into another fairy going mach speed? This one needed warning lights!

He leaned over the sleeping fairy and got an earful. She snored louder than Cooper Henderson, Reverie's resident carpenter. 

Dart looked over the splay of limbs, wings and polka dots. "Must be a tooth fairy."

That was the only other fairy that would be in a mortal's house at night. Besides brownies. Those sturdy clean freaks were a vicious lot. Dart still sported a scar on his ankle from the time he had flown from the path of a troop of determined house brownies. 

He hooked his hands akimbo and leaned in for closer inspection. 

An indeterminate shade of brown hair scattered about the tooth fairy's head in a non-style. Dart had never seen the hair colour in any of his kind. Ever. 

His own hair was golden. It could stun the eye for leagues away, and he always wore it the same colour, even when wearing glamour.

One wing was folded behind her back, the other crooked out over her shoulder. The usual sheen a fairy's wings gave off wasn't evident. Dart's wings were bright as chrome but twenty times more dazzling. 

"She looks more mortal than fairy," he mused over the fallen fairy. 

Dart had never discriminated against looks when dating. He liked females, young, old, tall, short, plain or sexy. And...vacuous. He preferred them a little stupid or, rather, accepting. Man, did he need them to be accepting. 

"Definitely thinks she's mortal," he decided of the fairy. "Must spend a lot of time here in the MR."

Because he felt sure the red and white polka dot skirt would give any fairy a laughing fit. And what was with those sensible white shoes? Big silver buckles glinted and captured Dart's reflection. 

'Hmm...' He coquettishly checked his hair in the gleaming reflection. As he adjusted his glamour, the gold strands of his hair sprang into perfection. 

As for his own mortal glamour, he preferred stylish suede pants and a stonewashed T-shirt. Organic, of course. A tight shirt stretched across his abs made all the fairies swoon. Yeah, even the males, but that didn't bother Dart. He was confident with his sexuality, and it was the females he preferred all the way. 

Fairies were all about pleasure and gratification, especially the personal kind. Too bad he couldn't seem to keep them beyond the first date. 

Thing is, Dart wanted to get serious. He was ready to settle, to have a wife to come home to each morning after a long night of dusting. And a little one to train in the family profession of sandman. He'd call the boy Fleche and he would be the first of a large brood. 

The dream of family tormented, because the truth always smacked Dart back to reality. 

"It's because you like the fluttery flower fairies. Easy on the eyes and fast to bed. You'll never find a woman with the patience to get to know the real Dart Sand. Patience?" He chuffed out a breath. "Look who's talking."

And then there were the rules of the Night Worker's Guild – the guild that supervised each and every non-mortal night worker.  The rules set by the guild made it difficult to have a relationship in the MR. So patience wasn't even the issue. 

Huffing out a sigh, Dart knelt over the snoring fairy and stroked the hair from her face. 

Despite the awkward clothing and mortal-like hair, her face was beautiful. Round and delicate like jade and the attractive colour of moonbeams. Her lips parted to emit a raucous snore — but they were red, plump lips, deserving of a kiss. 

Dart leaned in, yet before getting lip-to-lip he noticed she smelled like strawberries. A mortal delicacy. Just like her? He had to find out. So he kissed her. 

And it hurt. 

Head swinging back, Dart yowled as the force of the punch knocked him off balance. He caught himself yet landed in a sprawl across the entrance to Jimmy's bedroom. "What in Turkish toadstools are you doing, woman?"

"Me?" she fluttered up to float before him, wings beating the air and fisted hands to her polka dot hips. "You had your lips on mine."

"That 'is' how a kiss generally works."

"A kiss? Do you always steal your pleasures from unconscious women? What did you do to me?" She swiped a hand over her eyes. A few particles of sand dust fell away. "Uggh! You're a sandman. You dusted me to sleep!"

"Sorry. Sometimes I can't control it."

Dart stood and brushed himself off. That was the first time he'd been punched for a kiss. "Nice polka dots."

She smacked an elbow into her palm, fist balled, serving him a nasty mortal gesture. 

"Chill tooth fairy. Who put up your hackles? I'm just trying to make conversation."

Slapping her arms across her chest — a nicely abundant chest, Dart noticed — she tipped up her nose. "I don't see how my choice of attire  should be a topic of rude remarks."

"I said the polka dots were nice."

"Sarcastically."

Yeah, well. This wasn't going as it should. Time to rewind and start the conversation over. 

"I'm Dart. Dart Sand."

He offered a hand to shake but guessed correctly it wouldn't be reciprocated.

Smoothing the untouched palm down his abs, Dart stretched back his shoulders and puffed his chest. "So, I've never run into you on rounds before. You do all of Reverie?"

Sidney: "I 'live' here. And I've never heard of you either. Do you live in the MR?"

Dart: "Sort of."

Sidney: "Care to expound?"

Dart: "Nope." What was there to say? That his sexual desire always got him in trouble and reassigned before he could begin to consider settling in a town? 

"I don't need your trouble, Sand," she snapped. 

"Tr-trouble? Who put the bee in your bonnet? And for that matter, where is your bonnet?  Shouldn't mortal wannabes at least play the part?"

"Mortal?" Her left eyelid quivered. A stern thrust of spine drew her up stiffly, a fist slapped aside hip as she knitted her brows in unconcealed anger. 

Dart: 'Okay so the mortal comment might have been too much. Take it down a notch, Dart.'

"Dart Sand eh?" Her alluring eyes sized him up and, Dart noticed, lingering on his muscles. Females could never look away. 

He turned up his palm, which twisted his forearm and bulged the biceps tighter. "That's my name. What's yours, pretty lady?"

"You," she began pointedly, "are fraternizing with a fellow Night Worker, I'll have you know."

"Hey now, this doesn't need to get ugly."

Night Workers weren't allowed to fraternize in the Mortal Realm(MR). That was a big no-no in the guild rule book. Three strikes and you're busted, back on a fast retrieval to the Fairy Realm. Dart had tallied up a fair share of strikes, but the Sidhe Special Force goons hadn't caught him. Lately. 

"And, anyway, you're fraternizing too, Miss Tooth."

"Not for long." She spun and gave him a flutter of her lackluster wings. 

Again that sweet strawberry scent touched Dart and he inhaled, drawing her into his being. By all that was green, she smelled great. Lickable. 

An inexplicable glint flitted through the golden swirl within his eyes. 

"That's Sidney Tooth," she said over a shoulder. 

"Can't wait to run into you again, Sidney!" he called. 

She returned yet another rude gesture and was gone in a flight, buzzing through Jimmy's room towards the open window. 

Dart couldn't help but smile. "Cranky fairy."

And then he smiled even wider. "Pretty though. Not so much as cranky as a spitfire. Different from any of the fairies I've dated."

"Date" being his euphemism for "slept with."

The tooth fairy wasn't his particular kind of woman. She didn't seem at all accepting, and was far removed from the stupid scale, to boot. 

"I think you need another kiss, Sidney Tooth. No one turns down Dart Sand's kisses. And I'm not about to break that record."

am I the only one tired of hearing it

they are blood thirsty

that's easy for you to say

because you don't know what I go through everyday

to only lie awake alone and weep

who say you are worthless

I am jealous of you because you may believe in fairy tales and dreams

but for me that ended long ago

Fairy tales is a story for children. 

It always starts with "Once a upon a time" and ends with "They lived happily ever after."

Fairy tales leave out important facts in our life.

Fairy tales set us up for heartaches.

Fairy tales always have happy endings.

Yes, we're hoping that all of us will have a happy endings.

BUT, 

Don't forget that we're in REAL LIFE not on some kind of FAIRY TALES.
