Difficulty and morale are inversely corresponding to each other — the more difficulties they meet, the lower the morale will be. Conversely, each difficulty that they overcome would boost morale by a significant amount too. 
After the method of using the drone to check on the sand dunes before driving past them worked, every one breathed a sigh of relief. They don't have to climb up the sand dunes on their tired breaths with their hands and knees in the sand anymore, and their moods lifted significantly. 
Even though the sun is still boiling and the heat is still unbearable, everyone's feeling much lighter. 
Just like that, every time they meet a sand dune, everyone would stop before the sand dune. Those that wanted to go to the washroom will do so, and those that don't will head out to stretch their limbs. When Zhang Zian found a suitable spot to get down from the sand dune, everyone would then get back into the car and follow the path that the drone had found. Even though it takes more time than just driving up the sand dune, but it's definitely a lot more safer and more comfortable than the alternatives. 
10am in the morning, when the team had come to a relatively flat piece of land, Peter Lee gave the order to stop and rest, and they would rest here until 3pm, where they will set off again. 
So how do they waste five hours of their time?
It's not realistic to set up tent again. Under the direct attack of sunlight, the tent is as hot as an oven, as is the car. While driving, they can still turn on the air-conditioning occasionally, or there would at least be hot air blowing through the car. But, when the cars are stopped, they definitely can't turn the air conditioning on. 
Thank goodness they had considered the problem of having to stop and rest in the middle of the day, and had prepared a few H-shaped collapsible alloy frames and a few rolls of long white cloth. They can be used in this situation. 
Setting up a pair of alloy metal frames up a few meters apart, with it's base lodged firmly into the sand and white cloth strewn over the top, it formed an easy shelter. 
Don't think that just because it's simple, it's useless. It's effects were instantaneous. It's completely different having shelter in the desert compared to when they were exposed to the sun, it's almost 10 degrees colder in the shelter. It's why those Arabian men wear long white robes despite it being scorching hot. 
A few of these shelters were built quickly, and everyone parked their cars under the shelters, sitting in them with all their door wide open for air circulation. Or, they would bring out foldable chairs and hang out beside their car. 
With a white cloth above their heads blocking the direct sunlight, they wouldn't have to worry about sunburn anymore, and can remove their extra layers fo clothing. 
The men were either topless or only with their singlets on, while the two ladies have also taken off their sun-protective clothing and only had their sports bra on. No one gave too much attention to them. Even though they say that lust comes after satisfying basic needs, it's too hot to think about anything sexual now. 
The weather is too harsh and most of them don't have much appetite, forcing themselves to eat something before scattering to do their own things. 
Some of them are reading novels on their kindles, some watching videos on their tablets, some gathering together to play poker, while some closed their eyes for a short rest. But, with how hot it is, everyone felt like vegetables being left out in the sun to sun dry, and it's hard to fully calm down. 
There's no wind at all, not even a sherd. The air is completely still. The sand would fall straight down if you grabbed a bunch and let it stream through the gaps of your fingers. Everyone's internally cursing the damned weather, wishing for someone that could shoot the sun down with an arrow. 
Zhang Zian brought a small fan that could be powered with a powerbank, and could just barely enjoy bouts of hot wind. 
On the inflatable mat, Fina occupied the space closest to the small fan, Famous lied down in the middle with it's tongue hanging out, and Zhang Zian could only sit furthest away, barely any wind at this distance. 
Of course, he still has his buddy Richard, perched on his shoulder nearer to the fan, its wings wide open to cool down, much like a statue.
The sun seemed to be drawn into the sky, everyone anticipating it to start dipping towards the west, but it's barely moving. 
Resting in the desert while it's nearly 60 degrees celcius, it's barely resting at all. Only the cars have any reprive, this is another form of torture for the humans. 
Time slowly passes, and the sun surely sets. 
At three in the afternoon, the sunlight has already dipped so much that it could shine directly onto the cars and people within the shelter, so Peter Lee gave orders to start leaving again. 
Everyone wore back their sweat-logged clothes, keeping the white cloth and frames sluggishly. No one spoke, merely obeying the orders given to the,. 
It's already hard to handle the Sahara Desert in the midst of winter. With it being the peak of summer now, it's even more unbearable. One day under the sun could melt even the toughest metals.

"I've always enjoyed the classic dystopian sci-fi novels, such as '1984', 'Animal Farm', 'I, Robot', 'Dune', and 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. My mom also insisted that I read Jane Austen, Nicholas Sparks, and other romance authors. That's how I got into E. L. James and J. Kenner."
"So, you're a nerd and a romantic." I catch myself giggling a bit. {Gosh, what is this man doing to me. I've become a blushing schoolgirl.}
"Fine, go ahead. Make fun of me. But in my defense Orwell and Asimov are good writers. And you can't tell me that 'Pride and Prejudice' isn't a good book. It has history and finesse. What more could you want?"
"Okay, okay! I didn't mean to offend you, I'm just surprised is all."
"What, that I read romance novels?"
"No. That you read actual books."
"Harsh. But understandable. Most actors and celebrities don't portray themselves in a way that suggests any of us have the time or willingness to sit and read anything other than tabloid articles about ourselves."
We continue to talk about books for a while. Both pizzas were amazing. All good things must come to an end though. Austin takes me home and kisses me goodnight. It's an unexpected, but soft and gentle kiss. {Wow. I guess a second date isn't out of the question then.}
"Goodnight, Alexandra."
"Goodnight." {Something about the way he says my name in that dark accent of his drives me wild. I just hope that he doesn't notice.}
I take a shower I notice a new text from Austin. [Hey, I had a good time tonight. Would you like to go on a second date? I was thinking we could go to the movies sometime during the next week.] {Maybe it's best I leave that for tomorrow morning. That way I'm not making a hasty decision, right?}
 
When I woke up, I responded to Austin's text: [I have a commission due at the end of the week, but I think I can spare enough time for a date.]
[Good. Let's say Friday at 6?]
[Sounds like a plan.]
[It's a date then. 😉]
I call my mom, as I do almost every Sunday. She is excited that I've actually gone out on a date for once. Everything is going well at home, and we are all set for dinner tonight. She tells me to invite Zach, and I agree that it would be good for him after dinner with his mother.
I decide to go talk to him in person and drive over to his apartment.
"Hey. I wasn't expecting you today. Is everything alright?"
"Yeah. My mom invited you to dinner tonight. I told her about dinner with your mother the other day."
"Okay." He laughs a bit, and I can't help but smile. "I'll go to dinner with you and your family."
"I will text her to let her know."
"Uh… just out of curiosity, how was your date with Austin last night?"
"It was great! Have you heard of Pizza Pi? Their mac'n'cheese pizza is surprisingly amazing."
"Pi as in 3.14?"
"Yep. Kinda funny if you think about it."
"I think Sam said something about that place at some point. Maybe it had something to do with one of her dates. I can never keep them all straight. Anyway, how did it go? Do you have a second date lined up?"
"Actually, yes. Friday at 6. I believe we are headed to a movie theater."
"That sounds like fun. I'm glad you had a good time. Speaking of time, we should probably get going before your parents start to worry about your whereabouts."

Returning to the desert, Nanling couldn't help but sigh. Literally, the only thing that the oasis had was the shallow lake. Besides the trees, there were no other lifeforms which confused her greatly. It was such a beautiful forest too, why were there no animals? Were they all blind or unable to appreciate beauty? Nature truly was too savage.

She at least wanted to roast a boar or two as she was starving for fresh meat or at least one to several fruits, after having subsisted on preserved fish and bread for months. However, none of the trees had any so she could only eat grass or leaves. Fuck this desert, she thought as she angrily kicked the dune of sand. The particles then went along with the wind and some even got into her eyes which served to irritate her even more and sent her discontent to greater heights.

Grasping the uniquely gilded dwarven sword, he couldn't help but examine it. It was quite an exquisite blade as he had ascertained the strength to be comparable to swords exalted in legends and the very blade itself exuded an aura of danger. Of course, it was still trash compared to Dark Revelation but then again so were legendary weapons and even weapons wielded by Gods could only contest.

Returning his focus to the embedded gem, he saw that the light pointed to the southwest. Turning to inform her of the direction, he stopped when he saw her caught in quicksand.

"..."

He looked away for less than a minute and she was already in mortal danger. How did she even survive in the desert for as long as she did?

Noticing his bewildered gaze, the complexion on her cheeks reddened slightly. She then waved her blade underneath the quicksand and caused a small explosion. Leaping out of the sand pit, she tried to appear composed by dusting off her blue robes which were slightly tattered from being worn too often. Seeing that Atlas remained bewildered, she grinned and proudly proclaimed, "Unlike other women, I am not helpless. Why wait for a male lead?"

"Even if you were a female lead, you shouldn't be in that situation to begin with. How could the average male lead fight nature, when they already have been beaten into hiding by their family's enemies?", Guren said while facepalming.

She then remained silent as she did not expect that he would understand what she was talking about. Weren't those novels exclusively for women? Why did a dashing man like him read such literature? Was he actually a female disguising as a highly attractive young master like in the novels?
As her thoughts became less and less irrational, Guren brought her back to reality with his smug remark, "I've read more novels than you've seen in your entire lifetime"

This is not enough. Not enough! The thing screeched as it furiously and ravenously devoured its meal. No one would dare to call the thing a glutton as it was not merely eating a lot of food. There were those that ate half a bowl and felt full. Then there were those that ate twenty bowls and still felt that their nutrition was lacking. The most extreme were those that could deplete an entire year's supply of food in less than a week. This feast was on an entirely different dimension though.

Ten beached blue whales lay motionless as they all had a gaping hole on their sides. Four blue whales had already been turned into skeletons along with various marine life caught in the crossfire. However, the creature would not relent and even a hundred tons of meat could not satisfy its unquenchable hunger.

"To start, I will finally take down the Kingdom", the creature growled. Despite over a thousand years having passed, it only evolved twice. However, the gap between before and after the two evolutions were quite significant. Currently, he was a behemoth which was a creature at 80 meters tall and capable of jogging, despite its hulking physique. When he first entered this world, he was less than 20 meters but still immensely powerful. However, he realized that he could no longer consume indiscriminately as only those of immense size or immense power could increase his experience bar.

When he was 40 meters tall, he was tempted but the golems impeded him. As they were all 55 meters and numbered in the tens, he was overwhelmed and had no choice but to leave. It was also wasteful to expend his energy on the golems as they had no flesh or soul for him to devour. He had figured out that he could devour souls when doing so to a certain somewhat talented man with a sword. Unlike the spirits of his realm, it seemed that this spirit was unique to him and kept him afloat. Now that he had devoured it, he wondered which sin the man would be aligned to.

As he pondered this, two figures then appeared beside him and reported hastily as in the presence of this monstrosity, anyone but Atlas would want to leave.

"He is still alive and somehow has become even stronger"

"Interesting", the Behemoth said before revealing rows of unbelievable sharp teeth through a sinister smile.

"I can't understand the appeal of feeble and naive women. Why take her along with all her burdens?"

"From what I understand, it is due to innate lust and the appeal of caring for things they find pleasing to their aesthetics. That and affirming the male hubris through control"

"The way you say it makes it seem as if you aren't a man", Nanling said and her suspicion of him being a cross-dresser increased. How could a man look as lean and handsome as he did? Many men in the Mystical Blade Sect had a problem with being too muscly and the bulkiness slightly revolted her.

"You say that but there are also those known as dominatrixes which implies it is just an aspect of being human. It is just more pronounced when the dominant side is male"

"What is a dominatrix?"

"It is an overbearing female. Usually, it refers to being dominant in bed", Guren said before looking at her with a questioning gaze. The members of the Mystical Blade Sect knew the word but this woman did not. Was everyone in the Mystical Blade Sect more educated than the rest of the world?

As a person who was hesitant to discuss anything sexual, Nanling attempted to change the subject, "I noticed you stopped reading. Was it too boring for you?"

"I have already finished.

"How could you finish reading all of them already!?", Nanling asked incredulously as it had been only 1 hour but he had finished the novels which contained over three thousand pages.

After engaging himself in a purely mental task, he had felt a change in his mentality. Before, his memory was not bad. It could even be compared to having a slideshow in his mind but after the advancement to Cognition B+, it was undeniably eidetic and information only became easier to digest. There was no need for him to use the method of loci anymore and due to the increased brain cognition, he could even fully concentrate on 3 tasks at the same time.

Due to this, he read the novel while discussing tropes with her and triangulating the location of the Kingdom. It might not seem like much but he remembered every single word in the story, crinkle on the pages, and could rewrite the story through memory alone. He definitely would not do so though as the quality of the story was a bit lacking compared to what he was used to reading.

He had guessed it wouldn't be easy to locate the Kingdom of Smiths and that it would likely be hidden. If not then there would be more than just this female trekking into the desert. If it was easy to find, then the entire Mystical Blade Sect would be rushing to get a legendary blade to call their own.

Occasionally, he would find considerably large imprints on the side of titanic rock formations and even a few that were pulverized as if stomped on repeatedly by an enraged entity. He could tell they were not naturally made though as they seemed to emit a form of energy which was barely perceptible even with his unique vision. The only reason he was able to pick up on it was that the concentration of the energy was immense and seemed to originate from the many rock formations that seemed to be placed in a calculated pattern.

"I have. However, I'd like to ask... why have you not realized that we have been walking in circles?", Guren asked after responding to her question.

There was the possibility that she was too engrossed in their discussion on white lotuses and black bellied characters but she would always pause to verify the distance. The glimmer on the embedded gem now encompassed the gem but it had stopped increasing in intensity which meant that they were very close. However, there was still no kingdom in sight nor any entrance to said kingdom.

"It's just the desert having an effect on us. Look backwards, there are no footprints in the sand...", Nanling began but then realized what she just said.

"There are no footprints?", she then said in a confused tone.

Before she could continue, a swift projectile appeared right before her. Guren immediately caught the knife. He then dropped it as it was coated with an odd substance.

"What an interesting poison", he muttered before turning to the source.

"Master, I have come to bring you home"

Having escaped his mysterious past, Atlas returned to society. Sadly, the reality glorified in stories told by the survivors and by books, was actually monotonous and underwhelming. That is why when his past returned to haunt him, it brought a smile to his face. When he finally died, he didn't feel any regrets. Actually he did. He would have preferred if he had been born in a different world. One that was more exciting, one that was less limiting, and one that could give a sense of amazement.

I woke up, my mouth felt like it was covered in sand and I groggily stirred. I felt hot, which was weird cause it was winter but I slowly opened my eyes from my prone position to see where I was. Sand? I was lying in sand? Did I fall into the children's sandpit in the park? I pulled my arms under me and rolled over to push my self up to my knees. Damn it was bright, bright and hot. Raising my head I looked around and, blinking again, I saw sand. Heck there was sand everywhere. Not just in my hair and clothes but everywhere I looked I saw sand. Ok this was a bit much, I must be dreaming, yes that's it. I had gone home after another shitty day and was still sleeping but geez why was it so hot. I looked upwards into the sky and saw the sun so high above and estimated it was close on midday. Oh hell, I'm late for work. I'm going to blasted by that obese manager of mine and told to work back to make up my lost hours. But it's okay, I'm sleeping so it's fine. Still looking around, I could see the moon setting on the horizon and another moon just behind it. I looked again in another direction then froze. Another moon? Slowly turning my head back I looked again and yep there it was, another moon. My jaw dropped, this was one weird dream but it looked so real. For a minute I hesitated and then simply thought fuck it, I raised my hand and pinched my cheek and damn it hurt. Why the hell did I pinch so hard? Ok well I got no answers. This was definitely something that was beyond my understanding. Standing up I can see I'm still wearing my work clothes, standard jeans, light shirt with a pull over and I can see my baseball cap in the sand at my feet. On my back was my work bag that carries my lunch box, drink and assorted essentials, umbrella for those winter showers, favourite Manga, pack of chips, solar tablet charger and of course my tablet to read some web novels when I had time, which was rare but hey, it never hurts to be ready. There were a few other odds and ends which I had stuffed in there over the years and I think I forgot what they were. Definitely have to check!

So where the hell was I? I'm definitely not in Kansas I thought as I reached for my cap and shoved it on my head. Struggling to my feet, I stood and looked around once more. I don't think I had accepted this yet as I felt to calm but perhaps it was the learnings of my book "if you can't change it, then accept it" kicking in. Feeling more stable in my footing as I surveyed around I tried to make sense of this however the heat was beating down on me and I quickly removed my pullover, tied it around my waist and undid my top button for a little relief. Ok, survival 101, find shelter and get the hell out of this heat. I knew I had my water bottle in the bag which I had filled before leaving work,  a good size two litre bottle so that's a little comfort but which way should I go? Each direction was much the same, though behind me was a sand dune that stretched up aways. Oh well, one direction had to be chosen and going up would give me elevation to see further. I began my trudge up the hill, feeling the sweat building at my forehead and snaking down my face. It only took about three minutes to reach the summit. A few mishaps on the way but I made it. I looked again, I definitely could see further as I had expected. As I panned my vision around it all looked the same, just sand everywhere though off to my left which I think was to the west, if I used my earths standard of rise in the east and sets in the west, I could see a dark looking discolouration on the horizon. That would have to be mountains or maybe a forest but it was a direction and it was one that I better start heading towards. Reaching over my shoulder I felt for my umbrella and pulled it out. Removing the cover and pushing the  button it popped open and I swung it over my head and began my walk to whatever lay ahead.

Kaleb sprang into action at the warning and turned to run back down the dune. Unfortunately, athletics had never been his forte and the sudden decent of the dune was more than his coordination could handle. Kaleb's feet tangled as he tried to gain balance and he fell head first as he rolled down the rest of the dune. He came to a stop at the bottom lying on his back looking up at the dune he had just descended. He was battered but Kaleb felt, with relief, that nothing was broken, although his scrapes that he had gotten on his landing in this world were bleeding again.
At his landing at the bottom of the dune, the top seemed to erupt as the creature pursuing Kaleb breached the sand with its momentum before crashing back into the sand, beginning its decent toward him. It's appearance was that of a large worm 1 meter wide, with sections of armored carapace making up its body, that were a slightly darker shade than the sand it moved through. Its mouth was like a closed flower split into four petals and, when it broke through the sand with a shriek, Kaleb was able to see the hook like teeth that lined the inside of its mouth and throat.
'Dune Trap.' Rackshar said solemnly as Kaleb laid there stunned. He may have been able to understand that he was on another planet with magic and monsters but it was another thing to see one for his first time. But his amazement was short lived and adrenaline surged through him as he watched the worm's trail of sand coming swiftly down toward him. Kaleb scrambled to his feet and started running in the direction of least resistance, staying in the valleys between the dunes.
'Dune Trap? Is that its name? Why is it called a trap?'
'You don't need to worry about this one trapping you, it's still quite young. They got that name because of the adult Dune Traps, whose bulbous mouth only can get up to 200 meters wide and 150 long and the overall length of their body is many times that. Because of their large size moving through the sand of the desert alerts all its prey and scares it off long before it arrives. So the Dune Trap's expose their bulbous mouths and let the winds cover them with sand making them look like a dune at which point it will wait for prey to cross it before opening to devour them.'
'You mean any of these dunes I walk across could kill me?' Kaleb said in surprise as he warily examined the dunes around him as he ran.
'No, a full grown Dune Trap would never waste its time on you. You are so small that you wouldn't even be a snack for it. Dune Traps will sometimes wait for years for suitable prey before exposing themselves. Also they are quite rare so you aren't likely to ever come across one.' Rackshar tried assuring him.
'Then my luck is really holding steady at rock bottom' Kaleb thought to himself as he looked over his shoulder at the young Dune Trap steadily gaining on him. 'I can't let this turn into a endurance contest'.
Kaleb situation was looking grim. His breathing was ragged and his legs felt wobbly like jelly, adrenaline was the only thing keeping him going.
'I need to think of a way to lose this worm. If its as long as Rackshar hinted toward than its mobility underground should be low, it will probably have trouble turning.' Kaleb thought as he rounded a dune to see the valley split onto either side of a dune in middle and a plan formed in his mind.
Kaleb slowed his speed as he veered toward the right fork. The Dune Trap came at him quickly and, as it neared, Kaleb turned with his heart threatening to beat out of his chest, and ran directly at the Dune Trap. Sand sprayed from the ground as the Dune Trap's head sprang from the earth, its mouth flaring open with a screech, launching itself at Kaleb. Kaleb dove to the left with all his might but his lack of agility showed its ugly face once again as his right leg was clipped by the Dune Trap's charge sending him sprawling with some ugly gashes on his leg from the hooked teeth. As he looked at the ugly lines of his wound Kaleb knew he would have lost the leg if the Dune Trap hadn't been throw off by Kaleb's unexpected charge. It had mistimed its bite leaving Kaleb only wounded.
Crawling off the ground Kaleb began a limping run back the way he had come, away from the two forks, keeping the Dune Trap's still submerged body between himself and the left fork that he hadn't taken. Blood was streaming from his leg and he was starting to feel light headed but Kaleb knew if he stopped now he would die.
He waited until the Dune Trap re-submerged its head and continued its pursuit, making a wide u turn to chase him. Then Kaleb dove across its submerged body and ran toward the left fork. He heard a frustrated screech from behind and took a quick glance over his shoulder to see the Dune Trap's resurfaced head thrashing around trying to turn itself toward Kaleb, but it was unable to as its armored sections bunched in the attempt to continue its rotation.
'Just as I thought', Kaleb thought with a relived sigh as he kept running. 'Its body is rigid because of its armored carapace and can't make sharp turns, especially underground.'
Kaleb knew that this was only a delaying tactic. The Dune Trap would untangle itself and continue its chase but he had bought himself some time and distance, to hopefully think of a more permanent solution.
It only took a few minutes before Kaleb turned to check his trail and saw the Dune Trap's telltale sand mound in the distance. He knew he needed something and needed it fast, as his speed continued to slow down from the blood loss and exhaustion.
"Nan ci!"
A shout suddenly startled Kaleb from his thoughts. As he looked for the source of the voice Kaleb saw someone on top of a dune off to his left franticly waving their arms.

Torn from his comfortable life, his love and even his World; Kaleb is forced to a dangerous reality due to his lineage of Dragon's blood.
