"Sekarang sudah zaman apa? Kamu tidak masuk ke era ini kalau kamu tidak menggunakan WeChat." Jian Xiaoqiao menatap Gu Yishen lalu lanjut mengatakan, "Berikan ponselmu padaku, aku akan mengunduh aplikasinya untukmu!"
"Aku sudah mengunduhnya."
"Aku akan membantumu untuk mendaftar." Kata Jian Xiaoqiao sambil mengambil ponsel Gu Yishen. Saat membukanya, Jian Xiaoqiao harus memasukkan kode rahasia.
Jian Xiaoqiao menatap Gu Yishen lalu bertanya, "Apa kode rahasia ponselmu?"
Gu Yishen berdehem ringan lalu menjawab, "Oh itu gampang. Masukkan tanggal ulang tahunmu."
"Tanggal ulang tahunku…" Jian Xiaoqiao menatap Gu Yishen ragu lalu memasukkan tanggal ulang tahunnya. --0101, lalu layar ponsel itu pun berubah menjadi cerah.
Ini adalah pertama kalinya ada orang lain yang menggunakan ulang tahun Jian Xiaoqiao sebagai kode rahasia. Jian Xiaoqiao merasa sangat tersentuh!
Setelah layar kunci terbuka, Jian Xiaoqiao terkejut saat menyadari wallpaper ponsel Gu Yishen adalah fotonya yang sedang tidur.
"Kamu menjadikanku wallpaper?" Tanya Jian Xiaoqiao.
"Iya."
Gu Yishen merasa sangat malu saat ditanya pertanyaan itu. Ini adalah pertama kalinya Gu Yishen menggunakan foto orang lain sebagai wallpaper ponselnya.
"Kalau kamu menginginkannya, seharusnya kamu mengatakannya lebih awal. Foto ini tidak cantik!"
Jian Xiaoqiao kemudian membuka kamera dan mengambil selfie, setelah itu dia menggunakan fotonya sebagai wallpaper.
"Lihatlah. Tidakkah ini cantik?" Di wallpaper ponsel Gu Yishen, terlihat wajah Jian Xiaoqiao yang tersenyum cerah dengan mata yang bulat. Imut sekali!
"Kalau kamu ingin mengatur WeChat, aturlah dengan cepat!"
"Oh iya!" Jian Xiaoqiao baru mengingatnya, dia kemudian membuat sebuah akun WeChat untuk Gu Yishen. Setelah itu Jian Xiaoqiao menambahkan Lin Xi, Jian Mingrui dan Jian Mingrui ke dalam kontak WeChat Gu Yishen.
"Lain kali kamu bisa melakukan chat. Aku sudah menambahkan kakak-kakakku dan Lin Xi sebagai temanmu. Mereka akan menerima permintaan pertemanan itu saat mereka sudah melihatnya."
Setelah menerima kembali ponselnya, Gu Yishen mengangguk lalu memikirkan bahwa dia dulu menggunakan MSN dan Facebook. Sekarang…
WeChat?
Sebenarnya Gu Yishen tidak menyukai nama itu. Kenapa harus WeChat?
Gu Yishen menghela nafas, tidak lama kemudian ponselnya pun bergetar.
Dia mengambil ponselnya lalu melihat Lin Xi yang mengirim sebuah emoticon.
"Xiaoqiao, Lin Xi sedang on?"
"Iya. Dia sedang chatting denganku."
"Oh!" Gu Yishen lalu memilih sebuah emoticon dan mengirimnya.
Gu Yishen kemudian mengambil video Jian Xiaoqiao yang sedang makan. Sebenarnya… lumayan juga!
Di sisi lain, Jian Xiaoqiao tertawa terbahak-bahak saat melihat video yang dikirimkan oleh Gu Yishen.
Tidak dibayangkan pergi ke luar negeri membuat mereka berdua sangat senang dan romantis. Saat di luar negeri kali ini, perasaan mereka berdua semakin kuat, kan?
Bagaimana dengan Lin Xi dan Jian Mingrui?
Lin Xi menghela nafas panjang. Suasana hatinya memburuk saat memikirkan bahwa besok dia harus pergi ke luar negeri.
"Lin Xi, sudah larut malam. Tidurlah lebih awal!" Seru Ibu Lin yang berjalan masuk ke kamar sambil membawa segelas susu.
"Aku tahu, Mommy. Aku sedang bertukar pesan dengan Xiaoqiao. Dia sedang pergi ke luar negeri. Dia mengatakan kalau dia sudah sampai. Aku akan membalasnya lalu tidur."
"Oh, Xiaoqiao." Ibu Lin duduk di sebelah Lin Xi lalu mengatakan, "Xiaoqiao adalah gadis yang baik. Lagi pula kakak-kakaknya adalah orang yang terkenal di kota A. Kalau ada kesempatan, kamu bisa berhubungan dengan kakak-kakaknya. Mereka akan membantu saat nanti kamu sudah menjalankan perusahaan."
Lin Xi mengangguk sambil memegang tangan ibunya lalu mengatakan, "Aku mengerti, Mommy. Sekarang sudah malam, Mommy juga harus beristirahat." 


 "Jian Xiaoqiao adalah seorang gadis berumur 17 tahun yang masih duduk di bangku kelas 3 SMA. Tanpa sepengetahuannya, dia telah dijodohkan dengan pria yang berusia sepuluh tahun lebih tua darinya. Pria itu adalah wali kelasnya yang baru, Gu Yishen. Pria yang paling dia benci.
Gu Yishen adalah pria tampan, kaya dan primadona kalangan wanita. Selain sebagai wali kelas, dia juga salah satu direktur dan pemegang saham terbesar di sekolah itu.
Setelah melakukan pertemuan keluarga, orang tua mereka memaksa mereka untuk tinggal serumah. Apa yang akan terjadi selanjutnya? Apakah Jian Xiaoqiao akan tetap membenci Gu Yishen? Ataukah Gu Yishen berhasil membuat Jian Xiaoqiao jatuh hati?"

Chapter 15. General Cleaning
        
         
"CAN you get my keys? Nasa bag," sambit ni Lia kay Leonard na nasa likuran na pala niya. Ang shoulder bag niya ay nasa bandang puson at hindi niya makuha ang susi dahil hinahawakan niya ang mga pagkain. 

"I'll just hold the foods," namamaos na untag nito. 

"Kunin mo na iyong susi," balewala niya sa inalok nito. Kung ipapasa sa kasi niya rito ang mga pagkain ay baka dumulas lang ang isang paper bag. 

He sighed heavily and opened her small bag. Napasinghap siya nang dumiin ng bahagya ang braso nito sa katawan niya. Tila nakuryenteng humiwalay si Leonard. 

"Just hold the food," bulalas niya at walang sabi-sabing ipinasa ang hawak na mga brown bag dito. Siya na ang kumuha ng susi at nagbukas ng pinto. 

Nang makapasok ay inilapag ni Leonard ang pagkain sa mesa. She turned on the fan and the air conditioner para agad na lumamig. 

"I want to take a shower pero mamaya na," sambit niya habang inaasikaso ni Leonard ang hapag. Tila nahihirapan pang sambitin iyon. 

"You can take a shower," anito. Umiling siya. Baka matagalan pa siya't maghintay ito ng matagal. Kaya lang kasi, pakiramdam niya'y nanlilimahid siya dahil hindi siya nakaligo kagabi. 

"Kumain na muna tayo," aniya. "Mamaya na lang ako maliligo, pagkaalis mo."

"That's better," tila nakahingang maluwag na untag nito. 

Nang mahapag na ang pagkain ay kumain na rin sila. 

"Anong oras ka pwede bukas?" 

"Kahit anong oras mo gusto." 

"Hmm, maaga kaya? Para maagang matapos? Balak ko rin kasing mag-general cleaning. Kung mapapansin mo, kalat-kalat ang mga papel at kung anu-ano dahil sa pagre-review ko," sabi niya habang lumilingon sa paligid. 

"What time do you like me to go?" 

"Bandang seven?" 

"Alright," agad na sagot nito. 

Matapos kumain ay ilang saglit lang silang nagkwentuhan at nagpaalam nang umuwi si Leonard. Mukhang gusto na rin nitong mag-shower dahil hindi sila naligo kanina bago umalis ng Baguio. 

Maaga siyang natulog dahil maaga rin siyang gigising. Humahangos pa siya nang marinig ang marahang pagkatok sa pinto. 

"Sandali," aniya at kinuha ang bath towel na nakasabit sa rack. Ibinalabal niya iyon sa katawan dahil naka-sando lang siya at short. Pagkuwa'y binuksan ang pinto.

Gusto niyang pagsarhan ulit ng pinto nang makitang si Leonard iyon. Preskong-presko ito samantalang siya'y mukhang nilamukos na papel. 

"Good morning," nakangiting bati nito at agad ding napawi ang ngiti nang matingnan siya. Nag-iwas agad ito ng tingin. "I'll just, uh, go back later." 

"Pasok ka," agap niya. 

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have disturbed you from sleeping. Dumating ako kaninang alas sais pero hindi ka sumagot sa tawag ko. I waited outside to wait for your call or text. Pero mag-a-alas otso na kasi. Nag-aalala lang akong baka may nangyari sa iyo," mahabang paliwanang nito. He's just wearing a casual clothing. White running shoes, kupas ang maong at... itim na sando! "Salamat," aniya at kinuha iyon. Dumiretso siya sa hapag at nilagay sa mesa ang supot ng pagkain. May kape rin itong dala mula sa isang sikat na mamahaling coffee shop. "Magpapalit lang ako ng pang-itaas," paalam niya at iniwang nakaupo si Leonard sa sofa. 

Naghilamos lang siya ng mukha at nagpalit ng pang-itaas. She's wearing an oversized shirt now. Nang lumabas siya ay hindi na tinanggal ni Leonard ang pagkakatitig sa kanya.

"Why? May dumi ba sa mukha ko?"

"Is there something wrong?"

Hala! Nahuli pa yata siya nitong parang naglalaway sa katawan nito. 

"Ah, eh, wala naman. Ano lang. P-Pasensya na kasi ang sinabi ko'y magpapalit lang ng wallpaper. Pero mukhang dawit ka na sa pagje-general cleaning ko," palusot niya at nag-peace sign pa.

"Ayos lang, Lia. You can always call me whenever you want. Huwag mo nang tatawagin ang Jogel na iyon sa tuwing may gusto kang bilhin o gawin," inis na wika nito.

Natawa na lang siya. Hindi siya sigurado kung bakit parang naiinis ito. Baka napapagod na.

"Mamasahiin kita mamaya, pambayad ko sa tulong na ginawa mo."

"Teka, teka! Wag kang excited dyan!"
 
Sigaw ni Yvonne kay Lyka na inaabot ang kaniyang phone na kaniya namang inilalayo rito. Samantalang si Jervin nama'y pinapanuod lamang ang dalawang dalaga habang nakaupo sakaniyang kama at hawak ang kaniyang phone.
 
"Masama na ba maging excited?! Patingin lang naman ako ng phone mo!"
 
Sabi naman ni Lyka kay Yvonne habang inaabot pa rin nito ang phone ng dalaga. Napabuntong hininga na lamang si Jervin habang pinapanuod ang dalawang dalaga at saka panay pindot na sakaniyang phone.
 
"Kamusta na kayo dyan, kuya Josh?"
 
Biglang tanong ni Jervin kay Josh habang nakatingin ito sakaniyang phone. Agad na natigil ang dalawang dalaga sakanilang ginagawa at saka tinignan ang binata.
 
"Seryoso ba yan?"
 
Tanong ni Yvonne kay Jervin habang pinanlalakihan na nito ng mata ang binata. Tinignan na ng binata ang dalaga at saka hinarap na ang screen ng kaniyang phone sa dalaga upang ipakita ang galit na Josh sakanila.
 
"Ikaw! Pasaway kang bata ka! Hindi mo man lang ako sinabihan na alam pala ni Jay na maglalayas ka!"
 
Sigaw ni Josh kay Yvonne habang naka video call kay Jervin. Pinanlakihan ng mga mata ng binata ang dalaga, samantalang si Lyka nama'y naupo na sa sofa habang nakatingin na ito sa phone ng binata.
 
"Ano?! Nasan si Jay?! Sabi ko sakaniya wag niyang ipahalata na alam niya, e! Pisti ung lalaking un! Kahit kelan hindi siya sumunod sakin!"
 
Inis na sigaw naman ni Yvonne kay Jay sabay lapag na ng kaniyang phone sa coffee table na nasa harapan ni Lyka at saka pinagbababato na ang mga unan na nakalagay sa sofa sa kung saan-saan. Habang abalang mag wala ang dalaga'y mabilis na kinuha ng matalik na kaibigan ang phone nito at nasilayan ang wallpaper ng dalaga.
 
"Ahh… kaya pala ayaw mong ipakita sakin ung phone mo dahil dito."
 
Nakangiting sabi ni Lyka kay Yvonne sabay pakita na ng picture ng dalaga at ni Jervin na magka akbay at nakangiti kila Josh at sa binata. Mabilis namang namula ang mukha ng binata at saka ibinaba ang kaniyang phone upang hindi makita ng dwende ang wallpaper ng phone ng dalaga. Nagulantang ang Bampira sa ginawa ng binata kaya't pinanlakihan niya ito ng mata, samantalang ang dalaga nama'y mabilis na hinablot ang kaniyang phone mula sa matalik na kaibigan, tinignan ang binata at saka tumakbo na tungo sakaniyang kama, dumapa roon at saka ibinaon ang kaniyang mukha sa unan.
 
"H-hoy! Jervin! Anong ginawa mo?! Ba't nawala si Yvonne at Lyka?! Jervin!"
 
Tawag ni Josh kay Jervin kaya't natauhan na ang binata at iniangat niyang muli ang kaniyang phone upang ipakitang muli sina Lyka at Yvonne sa dwende. Ilang saglit pa ay tumawa ng malakas ang Bampira hanggang sa mapahiga na siya roon sa sofa, dahilan upang hindi makaimik ang binata ang dwende. Dahan-dahan nang iniharap ng binata ang screen ng phone sakaniyang sarili at saka tinignan na ang dwende.
 
"Anong nangyari kay Lyka?"
 
Takang tanong ni Josh kay Jervin habang magkadikit ang kilay nitong nakatingin sa binata. Umiling at nag kibit balikat lamang ang binata bilang tugon nito sa tanong sakaniya ng dwende at saka tinignan na si Yvonne na nakadapa pa rin sa kama nito at nakabaon pa rin ang mukha.
 
"Tumawag na sila kuya Josh?"
 
Tanong ni Justin kay Josh sabay tingin na rin nito kay Jervin na hindi nakatingin sa screen ng kaniyang phone. Tinignan ng nakatatandang dwende ang nakababatang dwende at saka ibinigay na rito ang phone ni Yvonne na iniwan sakanila.
 
"Jervin, nasan si Yvonne? Pwede paka usap ako?"
 
Tanong ni Justin kay Jervin nang tuluyan na niyang makuha ang phone ni Yvonne mula kay Josh. Tinignan na ng binata ang screen ng kaniyang phone at nasilayan ang mukha ng nakababatang dwende.
 
"Oh? Hello, kuya Jah."
 
Bati ni Jervin kay Justin habang nakatingin pa rin ito sa screen ng kaniyang phone. Nang marinig ang pangalan ng dwende ay mabilis na huminto si Lyka sakaniyang pagtawa at si Yvonne nama'y mabilis na naupo sakaniyang kama at saka tinignan ang binata. Tumakbo na papalapit ang Bampira sa binata kaya't mabilis namang binitawan ng binata ang kaniyang phone at lumayo roon upang maka iwas sa Bampira. Nakangiting kinuha ng Bampira ang phone ng binata at saka iniharap na sakaniyang sarili ang screen nito.
 
"Hi kuya Jah~!"
 
Masayang bati ni Lyka kay Justin sabay lakad na pabalik sa sofa na kaniyang inuupuan kanina habang hawak pa rin ang phone ni Jervin at nakatingin pa rin sa screen ng phone ng binata. Mabilis na naglakad si Yvonne tungo sa sofa na kinauupuan ng matalik na kaibigan, habang ang binata nama'y tumakbo na tungo sa kama ng dalaga, kinuha ang phone ng dalaga at doon na naupo.
 
"Kuya Jah! Miss na kita!"
 
Sabi ni Yvonne kay Justin habang nakanguso ito at nakatingin na rin sa phone ni Jervin na hawak ni Lyka. Nang makita ng dwende ang dalaga'y mabilis itong naluha habang nakangiti ito. Nginitian pabalik ng dalaga ang dwende habang ang matalik na kaibigan naman nito ay napabusangot na habang palipat-lipat ang kaniyang tingin sa dalaga at sa phone ng binata.
 
"Yvonne naman, e! Bakit mong ginawang wallpaper ung picture nating dalawa?!"
 
Tanong ni Jervin kay Yvonne sabay tingin na nito sa dalaga habang hawak pa rin ang phone nito. Mabilis na nilingon nila Lyka at ng dalaga ang binata at saka pinakita na rin ng Bampira ang binata kay Justin na pinapanuod na ang ginagawa ng binata.
 
"Hoy! Wag mo na palitan! Sasapakin kita pag pinalitan mo yan!"
 
Sigaw ni Yvonne kay Jervin sabay tayo na nito mula sakaniyang pagkakaupo sa sofa at saka takbo na tungo sakaniyang kama kung saan naroroon ang binata. Ngumiti tumayo na rin si Lyka at saka nagtungo na rin sa kama ng dalaga habang hawak pa rin nito ang phone ng binata.
 
"Nakakahiya kila Lyka! Mapag kamalan pa nila na mag boyfriend-girlfriend na tayo!"
 
Tugon naman ni Jervin kay Yvonne sabay talikod nito sa dalaga habang patuloy pa rin nitong pinapakelaman ang phone nito. Tinabihan na ni Lyka ang binata at saka pinanuod ito sa pagkalikot nito sa phone ng dalaga habang nakatapat ang phone ng binata roon.
 
"Selfie tayo tas un na lang ung gawin mong wallpaper sa phone ni Yvonne!"
 
Nakangiting sabi ni Lyka kay Jervin sabay pindot ng home button ng phone ni Yvonne, hinanap ang camera, pinindot iyon at saka kumuha na silang dalawa ng binata ng litrato nang magkasama. Matapos kumuha ng litrato ay kaagad na ginawang wallpaper iyon ng binata sa phone ng dalaga. Nang maka luhod na ang dalaga sa likuran ng matalik na kaibigan at ng binata ay galit niyang tinignan ang dalawa mula sa likuran nito at saka pinag-untog na ang dalawa habang masama pa rin ang kaniyang tingin.
 
"Mga pisti kayong dalawa. Humanda kayo sakin!"

"Diba gusto mong mawala ung mga problema at sakit na nararamdaman mo? Kung ganon... sasama ka ba sa paglayas ko?" -Yvonne Tamayo

"Ughh." Aku terbangun dengan keadaan kepala sangat sakit.

Kesan pertama yang sangat buruk, tidak, lebih buruknya lagi aku terbangun di sebuah ruangan yang teramat asing.

Aku tidak tau apa yang terjadi.

Ruangan kumuh ini, memiliki satu pintu yang diganjal dengan lemari baju.

Melihat sekeliling tidak ada orang selain diriku, membuatku yakin bahwa akulah orang yang telah menutup rapat-rapat pintu itu.

"Tapi apa yang sebenarnya terjadi?" Pikiranku.

Aku kemudian berdiri dengan tujuan untuk mendekati pintu putih itu dan mencari tahu sesuatu, belum sempat melangkah tiba-tiba dari dalam kantong celanaku jatuh sebuah smartphone.

Sekarang, perhatianku terarah ke smartphone asing itu.

Layarnya menunjukkan batre berwarna merah dan dikunci dengan kode angka, enam angka untuk membuka smartphonenya.

Jika ini adalah smartphone ku, seharusnya aku ingat berapa kodenya.

Percuma saja berpikir, aku tidak dapat mengingat apapun.

Lock screennya memiliki wallpaper merah gelap dengan tulisan berbahasa Inggris.

"Aduh gimana nih, smartphonenya sebentar lagi bakal mati."

Merasa mendapatkan ide, kemudian kecerahan layar yang sebelumnya maksimal, aku turunkan ke yang paling rendah.

Sekarang di lock screen, wallpaper berubah menjadi hitam namun dengan tulisan berbeda.

"Hmm? See you in dark side?" Pikiranku.

"331413" Kataku setelah mengamati wallpaper itu kembali.

Setelah mencoba kode itu, hasilnya sama saja, tidak bisa untuk membuka smartphone sialan ini.

"Hah!" 

(DUG DUG DUG)

Suara ketukan, mungkin lebih ke arah kepalan tangan yang ditinju ke arah pintu putih itu, pintu yang membuatku penasaran kenapa di ganjal.

"Hei! Aku didalam!" Teriakku.

Suara itu kemudian terhenti dan saat itu aku mulai mencoba menggeser lemari baju yang mengganjal.

(KRENGGG....)

Suara pukulan itu kemudian berubah menjadi suara gergaji kayu.

Dengan nada berat, seseorang yang sedang memegang gergaji itu terkekeh geli dan gergaji itu mulai menyentuh pintu, untungnya lemari disini masih mengganjalnya.

Panik, itu yang terjadi.

Aku tidak tau apa yang terjadi dan apa yang akan terjadi, suara gergaji kayu itu semakin menggelegar, mengoyak pintu putih itu.

Sekarang aku terbujur kaku dan membisu, keringat dingin dengan cepat membasahi ku. Aku tidak tau harus apa dan bagaimana, tangan kananku yang sedang memegang smartphone bergetar tak terkendali.

"Bukankah suara itu menakutkan? Atau apakah dia orang baik? Apakah aku akan selamat?"

Pertanyaan - pertanyaan membanjiri pikiranku, aku takut, sangat takut, siapapun tolong aku.

Aku lupa apa yang terjadi, lebih tepatnya aku tidak dapat mengingatnya lagi.

Yang sedang terjadi saat ini, aku terbangun di sebuah ruangan yang pintunya diganjal dari dalam.

Apa yang sebenarnya terjadi?

The branch manager of the stock brokerage firm in Suwon City gave his business card to Gun-Ho.
"I don't have my business card with me."
"That's fine, sir. I wanted to meet with you. We take care of our VIP clients separately."
Gun-Ho firmly said,
"I will have to withdraw my funds next month because of my business."
"All of the funds?"
The branch manager's face hardened.
"I'm moving from Incheon to Seoul soon, so I have to move my account to the branch over there anyway."
"Why don't you leave some of your funds with us? We provide a text message service to our VIP clients with useful stock-related information. It's not a spam message but it's information from a reliable source."
"I will take it into account."
Gun-Ho couldn't harshly decline the branch manager's kind offer, so he just told him that he would consider it. While he was walking out of the stockbroking firm, Gun-Ho thought of his past experience with the same firm.
"When I placed my 10 million won that I borrowed from the sunshine loan program to the firm years ago, they didn't care about me at all. Now, even the branch manager greeted me and served me a cup of tea in his office. As my mom said, a person should live a long life to see various and unexpected things in life."
Gun-Ho stopped by a massage shop in Suwon after having his lunch in a Japanese restaurant. He felt sleepy while he was getting foot massages, probably because he just had his lunch.
"At this hour, the factory workers in the factory I used to work at must be working so hard. Money is good."
 
Gun-Ho received a call from the consulting company.
"I talked with the TowerPalace condo owner, and he agreed to move out if you pay 5 million won for the moving cost."
"That's good. Thank you for your work."
Gun-Ho told Manager Oh that he would send him the 5 million won moving expense for the current occupant in addition to the consultation fee.
Fifteen days later, Gun-Ho received the keys for the condo from Manager Oh. Manager Oh also handed the receipts of the last HOA payment and gas service payment paid by the previous owner.
"5 million won is not a bad deal at all. I believe I handled it very well. If someone else talked with the previous owner, he wouldn't agree to the price."
Manager Oh, still wearing his sports cap and chewing his gum, said to Gun-Ho.
"I know you would make it work. Thank you for your great work."
Gun-Ho extended his hand for a handshake.
"If you need my help any time in the future, just let me know. I will do my best for you."
Manager Oh gave Gun-Ho a military salute in a comical gesture.
"Hahaha. I will definitely do so. Thank you again."

Gun-Ho went to his TowerPalace condo that evening.
"There are a lot of luxurious cars parked here."
When Gun-Ho opened the condo door, a huge vacant space met his eyes.
"50 pyung is indeed large. The vacant space makes it look even larger."
Gun-Ho thought he would have to do the wallpaper since someone had been living here for several years and left some normal wear and tear on the wall.
"I will have to do the wallpaper and renovate the bathroom."
The next day, Gun-Ho asked a remodeling contractor to come to his condo.
"I want to change the wallpaper and renovate this bathroom."
"Is there any particular wallpaper you like?"
The contractor asked while laying out wallpaper samples he brought on the floor.
"Hmm, it's hard to choose; there are so many of them. I just want something bright."
"What about this one then? This one is popular among young female homeowners these days."
"Umm, okay. Let's do that then."
The remodeling contractor checked each room of the condo.
"Sir, why don't you renovate the kitchen too?"
"The kitchen looks okay as it is."
"Sir, once you change the wallpaper, the kitchen will look dingy. You don't want that in a luxurious condo like this one. I can get you a good price. You should change the ceiling lights as well. There are so many well-designed ceiling lights out there. You need to replace them all. All these updates will change the price of the condo."
Once Gun-Ho heard the change of the condo's price, he decided to update the condo as the remodeling contractor suggested.
 
After the condo renovation was completed, Gun-Ho went to the condo.
"Oh, gosh. Money is good. The renovation was worth every penny. They made the condo as if it was a brand new condo. They are certainly good at what they do."
Gun-Ho started filling the condo with necessary furniture and home appliances. He bought a sofa, a dining set, a refrigerator, a washer, etc. They were all luxurious and expensive. Gun-Ho also bought a luxurious high-end designer bed frame, a wooden desk, and a bookshelf.
"This condo is too big for me; however, after three years I expect its price to go up by 100 million won. That means I would make over 30 million every year just by living here."
Gun-Ho finally moved to Gangnam; his long-lasting dream came true. He liked the fact that he didn't go through a realtor to purchase a real property but bought it instead through an auction at a low price. Gun-Ho now wanted to buy a car.
"Should I buy a BMW? Since I go fishing sometimes, maybe I should by an SUV. Let's get a Land Rover."
Gun-Ho purchased a Land Rover Discovery for 100 million won.
"Let me see how much I have spent for the TowerPalace condo, the condo in Guweol Town, the Land Rover, and the condo renovation."
Gun-Ho calculated how much he spent so far.
"It's a little over 2 billion won. I can recover the money I spent on buying the condo later once I resell it, so it's okay. The cash that I have available now is a bit more than 17.7 billion won. Let's take out some of it and start looking for a business I can run."
 
Gun-Ho's day in Gangnam started with waking up in the morning in a luxurious 50 pyung large condo in the TowerPalace community. He then went to a fitness center in his Land Rover and after working out there, he stopped by a café inside the Education Community Center building in Yangjae Town. When he was enjoying his coffee in this café as usual, he received a call from his friend—Min-Hyeok whom he ran across in front of the National Assembly Library of Korea the other day.
"Hey, Min-Hyeok. How have you been? Did you pass the government job exam?"
"No. I think I am not smart enough."
"Come on, cheer up! I heard many people passed the exam after several attempts."
"What about you, Gun-Ho? What are you doing these days? You are still in Yeongdeungpo, right?"
"No, I moved to another town."
Gun-Ho decided not to tell him that he was living in a TowerPalace condo after considering telling him for a second.
"Oh, really? I was going to ask you if you would like to have soju with me if you're in Yeongdeunpo because I took a position of a residential manager in a OneRoom in Yeongdeungpo, so I can continue to study for the exam while making some money.
"I will buy you a soju."
"I have to stay in this area close to the OneRoom that I am working at as a residential manager. I can't lose this job now. The same position at a luxurious OneRoom in Gangnam is extremely competitive."
"I see."
"If you happen to be in the area, just let me know, okay?"
"Yeah, I will. Thank you for calling me, friend."
 
"OneRoom…"
Gun-Ho thought of his old days in a OneRoom. He used to live in one of those when he studied for the level-9 government job exam.
"There was no window in my room. It was tiny, and that room didn't have a private bathroom either. Those days were indeed painful."
Gun-Ho didn't even want to think of those days; he shook his head as if he wanted to shake off the memory, but he went on.
"I kept failing the exam, and I had to save money. So, I ate cooked rice and kimchi for every meal in a day because they were free; the OneRoom provided cooked rice and kimchi for its residents for free. I don't want to go back to that life ever again."
Gun-Ho felt sorry for Min-Hyeok.
"Min-Hyeok is the same age as me, 36 years old since New Year's Day already passed. If he could pass the level-9 government job exam, he would start making about 2 million won per month. I'm not sure if he could plan his future—marrying someone and buying a house—with that salary."
Gun-Ho recalled his time with Min-Hyeok when they were still in junior high school together.
"He was a good friend. He must be having a difficult life now. His father used to drive a bus, but he's probably retired already. Whew."

This is the story of a poor young man whose poverty even shreds apart their family willing to climb his way through society and into the top. A very realistic novel that moves away from fantasy and sci-fi and focuses solely on the issues of society and life.

Juvie. Its hell. 

The place where any criminal under the age of 18 is kept. Locked away from the outside world. Locked away from creating any more damage to the corrupt world, at least... more than what they had already created. The whole point of juvenile detention centers is to keep the delinquents away from the outside world for so long that when they get out, they forget everything bad and become brainwashed by anything and everything and start a new page. It's supposed to mentally break you until you have no idea what you're doing, all you know is how to follow orders. 

Endless hours of filling in boring and pointless exercise books, for what? A half an hour lunch of nothing healthy and then outdoor training. 

It was the same for everyone, every day. Not just for Jack Gilinsky, but for Josh, Kile, Aaron, and many others amongst them. 

Some of them were in there for crimes they hadn't committed, but most of them deserved to be there. Some kids complained, some stayed quiet. Some started fights, some just hid away. Some were productive in their spare time; others just slept their day away. 

Polar opposites crowded the cells of the detention center. Yet somehow the delinquents always felt alone. And that was how Jack felt, every minute of every day. He'd never known what it felt like to be loved. 

Although Jack felt alone all the time, he felt like it was a deliberate punch in the face on visitor's day. The rules were that up to four people could visit, take you out around the area, on three conditions. You had to be related, you had to wear a wrist tag and an officer had to tag along with the group. 
Today, the 4th of March, it was visitor's day. Everyone had left around 3 hours ago, leaving Jack and around 7 others alone in their cells. 

Jack decided that since he had nothing to do until lunch, he would just sleep. But clearly, God had other plans. He had been staring at the ceiling for around half an hour before the lock of his cell had started to clank and the sound of a key turning made him close his eyes and pretend to sleep. 

"Gilinsky. Get up. You have a visitor." A guard's voice sounded as the door creaked opened. Jack couldn't help but open his eyes and sit up at the word 'visitor'. The officer stalked over to him, indicating for Jack to hold out his wrists. Jack stood, towering over the officer's height of 5"6'. "I don't trust you." 

Jack laughed at his comment, before holding his wrists out. 

Not long now. 2 more weeks. 

The guard glared at Jack before leading him out of the cell. They walked down multiple corridors before they reached the visitor's room. As the guard pushed the door open, Jack spotted a middle-aged man sat at the table in the middle of the room, it was none other than his brother, Landon. 

The guard halted by the door, watching Jack carefully as he made his way to the table. Jack glared at the older man known as his brother, before pulling out the chair with his foot, deliberately making it scrape against the floor. Landon flinched at his actions, before watching him as he sat down on the hard seat opposite him. His little brother had changed so much. 

He'd gone from an innocent-looking child that could barely fend for himself, into a muscular teenage boy that looked rough from sleepless nights in this hell hole. 

Jack slouched in his seat, purposely placing his cuffed wrists on the metal table in front of them. 

"You... you don't look the same," Landon stated obviously, stumbling over his words. Jack chuckled at this, before shaking his head.

"It's been 8 years, this is what juvie does to a kid," Jack replied smartly. Landon sighed, before starting to fiddle with his fingers. "What made you come and see me now? Why not years ago?"

"I-I don't know. I guess I was hurting and I couldn't get over what you did. I kept thinking about how much of a monster you were."

"What changed? I still killed people. Our family. I'm still a monster."

"Not just our family."

"Beca doesn't count."

"She counts just as much as the next person!"

"She was an animal."

"That doesn't make it okay!" Landon shouted furiously. Jack leaned forwards in his seat, narrowing his eyes. 

"It does to me." He replied calmly.

He sounded crazy, they both knew that. 

Landon felt anger bubble up inside of him. How could he be so ignorant? How was he proud of what he did?

"I'll never forgive you for what you did. I'm ashamed to call you my brother." Landon spat. Jack felt a small sting in his heart, his only family member left was now rejecting him.

Your fault idiot.

"Then don't." was Jack's simple reply. He stood and turned, heading for the doorway. "We're done here."

A hand on his shoulder made Jack instinctively turn and swing his hands, hitting Landon forcefully in the face. Landon stumbled backward as officers rushed into the room, grabbing Jack's arms to restrain him. Electricity pumped through his body as they pressed their taser batons against his restrained figure. He yelled out in pain, before sinking to the floor. 

"Hold him still!" was one of the last things Jack heard. An officer progressed towards him with a syringe, as Jack faded in and out of reality. The pain from the electric shock was almost unbearable. The last thing he saw through his slowly blurring vision was the blood sliding down Landon's cheek.

Jack stared at the ceiling above his head, keeping his arms folded under his head. The sound of the cell door opening brought him from his thoughts. His cellmate had clearly just come back from his day out. 

"Jack! I heard what happened!" His cellmate practically shouted, as he noisily clambered up onto the edge of Jack's bed.  Jack opened his eyes, to get a glimpse of his 'friend' before closing them again. "You really need to watch yourself... you're going to be out of here soon."

"Kile... please, be quiet for once," Jack pleaded, propping himself up on his elbows.

"You'll go to proper prison if you don't behave," Kile warned, scowling at him. Jack rolled his eyes and went to kick Kile off the bed. Kile quickly jumped down from the bed, landing on his feet.  

Kile was a small kid, around 5'7; he'd been accused of murdering his neighbor, but it was clear that Kile didn't even have it in him to hit someone. Clearly he had been falsely accused. He had brown hair that fell into his hazel colored eyes, which made him look permanently scared. Maybe he was.

When Jack had first been brought to the youth offenders jail, Kile had been pushed around and made to do things he didn't want to. That was until he befriended Jack when he had stood up for him. Kile had been Jack's shadow ever since. Jack didn't mind, it was nice to have someone to keep him company, even though sometimes he wished that Kile didn't speak so much. 

Jack jumped down from his bed, making his way over to the east wall of his cell. This was his special wall. Whenever Jack had felt stressed or uneasy, he would find a piece of wallpaper that was peeling from the wall and just rip it. Sometimes he punched it, sometimes he found a piece of rock and etched writing or drawings into the stone wall, and other times he just ripped off pieces of wallpaper. 

"I'm gonna miss you when you leave Jack," Kile stated, breaking the silence. Jack ignored him and continued to peel off the wallpaper. "It's not going to be the same without you here."

"Kile. Be quiet." Jack ordered, scratching the back of his head. Kile progressed towards him, tilting his head sideways as he watched him. 

"Did you really kill all those people?" 

"Kile shut up."

"You don't seem like a killer."

"Kile!" Jack spun around, catching Kile by the collar of his jumpsuit. "Shut up!"

Kile nodded before scuttling over to the other end of the room. Jack felt a little niggle in his chest, he felt bad for shouting at him, he was small and fragile and needed someone to look after him. 

"I can't wait to see my parents," Kile spoke up again after around 2 minutes. Jack sighed and turned around, glaring at him.

"Well, I'm sure they would love to hear about how your cause of death was too much talking," Jack threatened, throwing a piece of wallpaper in Kile's direction. Kile flinched and moved away, giving Jack a scared look. 

"You scare me sometimes," Kile stated in a low voice. Jack's heart sank at his words, he didn't want to scare people. He swallowed and turned back to the wall, continuing to pull off pieces of wallpaper. 

Just as he was about to pull off a piece of wallpaper, the sound of keys in the cell door sounded. Jack turned around as the door opened, glancing at Kile. An officer stepped into the room, glancing at Jack.

"Gilinsky, the warden wants to see you."

She didn't read. She pretended to read while thinking, but that didn't get her anywhere. 

Feeling quite embittered by her lack of mental progress, Muriel let her eyes float around the library. 

Books ... couches ... armchairs ... paintings ... tables ... bookcases ... plants in pots and vases ... stuff ... stuff ... stuff ... 

Huh? 

Muriel slowly and lightly closed her book against her thumbs as she gawked at something. It wouldn't normally have bothered her. In fact, had her outlook been normal, she would have assumed she was looking at nothing more interesting than a wallpaper's pattern. 

And the wall did have a wallpaper with an intricate pattern. Muriel had seen so many rooms with luxurious wallpapers. She had become accustomed to these expensive things in a very short time. She wouldn't have thought to look at the wallpaper if she hadn't been thinking so painfully. 

Someone was watching her. 

The wallpaper in this room had a repeating vertical pattern of exotic bamboo, foreign insects and spiders, and many tiny flowers. But in one spot ... near a small table ... where a little vase holding a plant innocently stood ... there was something off. Something that was partially hidden by the plant's leaves. 

One of the insects in the pattern, a black one, it was only just a little bit larger than its brothers, which certainly were meant to be the same. The pattern seemed to have been made with a rolling and printing method. The duplicating images should be precise. 

Muriel wanted to investigate, but she was afraid of doing so with the princess nearby. So, she decided to wait until nighttime. 

But, sadly, the princess wanted to go on long walks around the estate after lunch. Then she wanted to practice some dances for the next Capital Season. Then, before dinner, the princess wanted Muriel to play the piano for a long time. After dinner, more dance practicing. When it was time to go to bed, Muriel was frazzled. 

However, she was also determined. 

When Muriel thought that everyone was asleep, she dressed into a very casual outfit. A pair of soft slippers, a comparably narrow skirt, a white shirt with long sleeves, and a set of quilted jumps on her torso. She didn't even have stays. She did, however, put on a dark blue cloak with a hood. 

She should have been ready to go, but she was so tired. She was worried that if she laid down she would fall asleep and forget to leave her room, but she wobbled a bit as if walking was too unbearable. Muriel groaned and took a seat near her bedroom window. 

The moon was full, which meant that it was bright. 

The moon's glow reflected on the black sea. 

Beautiful. 

Her elbow went to the windowsill. Her cheek went to her palm. 

She sighed. 

Huh? What was that on the shore? 

Muriel's gaze tightened. 

It was ... a shape, a tall dark shape. The details were impossible to see. The thing was moving along the shore. It looked bulky. 

She watched the thing until it eventually turned, moved away from the shore, and went out of her view. Muriel thought it might have went under the cliff the castle stood on.

"Please forgive me. I've fallen desperately in love with you. And I wish to marry you, but I'm scared." said the cursed prince.

"Oh, why are you frightened?" asked the girl - the Queen's companion.

"When you see me ... you might run away and never let me have you again. And ... and ..." He sniffed up something that was probably cold and hot at the same time. 

Shaking her head very quickly, she told him, "No! Absolutely not! After everything that's happened, how could I run away?"

The cursed Prince told her that when night came he would be waiting in the Empty Room for her to come. And there, she'd be allowed to see him. 

She was so thrilled.

The girl goes to the Cursed Prince's room that night. She saw him. 

His head was under a mask of cloth. The ends of the cloth were hidden under the cloak.

She saw him .. 

And the cloak was being opened..

And ... 

Oh ... 

Oh!! "

......

She slammed the lock on the door aside. She yanked the door open, nearly tripped out of the room, and slammed the door closed, and ran as fast as she could.

As if noting his sudden depression, the chat group became alive again with comforting messages.
[Anjee: Well, a date is a date.]
[Ash: That's right – and food is love!]
[Nixie: It's just the beginning anyway. You'll go to more places next time.]  
Tohru smiled at Nixie's message. It meant that in the future when Yanee became more and more comfortable with him, he could take her out anywhere that was more romantic. Also, Anjee was right. A date was still a date regardless of the place as long as they were together – and food was definitely loved!
He and Yanee loved to eat it seemed. They were both foodies, and so the market might not be a bad place for a first date.
[Marian: Ah, little brother, buy me a snack.]
[Yunjae: Marian, Are you planning to be a quasi-light bulb on their date?]
[Ria: Get your husband to buy the snacks for you, alright?]
[Kim: Don't bother your seriously trying to date brother.]
[Marian: I'm his legitimate big sister, alright?  Don't I have special perks or something? They're going to the market anyway.]
[Jena: @Liam Confiscate your wife's phone and put her to bed.]
Tohru James let out another round of laughter. His pregnant sister always went crazy when pregnant, and this was her third baby, and so, all of them were used to her antics already.
That's right. Marian Kang was his biological sister.
It was why when Yanee heard Marian call him "little brother" earlier, he felt a bit nervous. The plan was to not call him little brother at all. Even Jisoo called him Tohru and the beginning. But Marian, with her pregnancy brain, slipped and called him "little brother". It was a good thing that Jisoo and the others were there to divert Yanee's suspicion and unanimously called him by that nickname.
Just as he told Yanee, his eyes were on her the entire time, watching. It's why he was now a bit sensitive to her mood. He automatically could tell when she's happy, sad, confused, worried, nervous, as well as suspicious, just as she was when Marian forgot and used his nickname.
 [Yunjae: By the way little brother, does Yanee know your background?]
[Ash: Oh yes, I haven't asked about that. Let us big sisters know so we won't slip.]
They were talking about Tohru James' real identity, of course as the heir to Arcus Iris International.
[TJ: No. But I think it's safe to tell her that I'm rich but not how rich. It's obvious anyway, and I think she doesn't care. I just don't want her to know about AI International right now because it will show my intentions to get close to her. She'll run.]
[Nixie: Well, just refrain from talking about things like that. It's safer.]
[Kim: Why does she want to run away from you, little brother? She's not okay with rich men?]
[Marian: No. Yanee is also from a rich family. The problem is a personal one for her.]
[Ria: I see.]
[Yunjae: Marian why are you still awake?]
[Marian: She's sleeping. I'm Liam. I just took her phone when your messages came.]
They continued to chat for several more minutes until Yushin scolded everyone to sleep. The girls were reluctant but followed. However, they did not go until each one of them sent pictures of Yanee from the party and some group photos they took with her.
[Jena: Little bro, you have tons of options for your wallpaper now.]
[Ria: He can change his wallpaper daily if he wants. LOL]
[Anjee: Don't forget the  screen lock!]
[Ash: Bring something to disinfect your phone from time to time little brother.]
[Jae: @Ash Why would he need to clean it that much?]
[Ash: Because he'll be kissing it that much. ❤]
[Yushin: All of you go to sleep.]
Tohru James shook his head as he chuckled. He switched off the chat, but not before he finished downloading all the photos of Yanee that the girls took. Just as they suggested earlier, he scanned the many photos he was sent to see the best and would make it into his wallpaper.
He found one that he liked the best. It was of Yanee's smiling profile with her pair of chocolate eyes twinkling. The photo was a close-up. He could note the long hair at the edge of the photo though. It seemed one of the big sisters, Ash, he presumed, based on the color of the hair, asked Yanee to take a photo with her. But instead of the two of them, she had asked the one who took the picture to move in a little closer and take only Yanee's picture.
 "Thank you, big sis," he murmured as he replaced his current wallpaper with it.
He wouldn't dare change his screen lock, though. It's dangerous. If Yanee accidentally saw it, he wouldn't know how to explain it to her.
Yanee Lee was not stupid. He knew there would be a time when she would find out the truth behind this project. However, as long as she hadn't, he wanted to take this opportunity to teach her heart to trust again.
The humiliation she must have gone through back in Nagoya when her co-worker who was also the son of her boss played with her feelings was great. Too great actually, that until now, Tohru could feel her hesitance, her reluctance to have anything to deal with romance. Just by that alone proved how much trauma she carried with her.
He sighed.
Tomorrow, Yanee would spend time with him. They'd go to the market and walk around trying out different street food there. He honestly hadn't been there – he did not lie to her in that aspect. So, tomorrow would really be his first time to visit the ancient market.
