"Yes, you did," he agreed and nodded his head. It was indeed her idea. Looking back, all those hundred proposals he gave her finally paid off when the lady herself popped the question on a random day.
He kneaded a side of her waist. "Okay, let's try this map again." He took the map from Olivia and raised it to his eye level. "I see…" His eyes darted to his wife. "This is hard when you're gawking at me."
"No, I am not. I am waiting for your answer." Olivia's brows knitted. She had a feeling Maxen was buying his time for unknown reasons. "You're taking too long. The suspense is killing me. Let me explain it if you don't want to."
"Sure, here you go." Maxen didn't protest. He gave the paper back to Olivia, grinning at her like a fool because he truly was but he wouldn't admit it. "By the way, those looked like a star map," he said at random. Earlier he noticed Ursa minor standing out among the rest.
"No waaaay." Olivia's mouth hung open, Maxen had to push her lower jaw up to close it. Swatting Maxen's hand off her, she mused, "It is a star map. See? The rest are just constellations, but the one in Sir James contained a coordinate, a time, and a date. Meaning…"
"Those other coordinates are stars that were present during that night."
"Exactly. Wow. She's smart. This is… I'm impressed," Olivia sang praises to Xandra's name. "What's with Wyatt? Why do awesome girls fell for him?"
Maxen huffed. "You know… He is a great guy except in the lady department."
"Must be his ego. You see. He has Ollie the heir and you the prince as his best friends. He had to be someone somehow."
"Ok. Can we change the topic? I don't really like talking about other people." Maxen spoke, folding the paper into a paper plane. "Are you sure the kid's in the monastery?" He glanced at her side where Olivia's attention was glued.
"Yes, Max."
"Can you call me baby just once when you're not angry?"
Olivia's head slowly tilted to the side. She raised a brow on Maxen's direction as if questioning him what the heck was that request for. "It's weird calling a thirty-two-year-old man 'baby', so nope. You will always be my Max."
Maxen gave up. It's useless to argue with Olivia. She would call him baby eventually when she needed something and he would a hundred percent not give in to her bewitching. 
"Okay, whatever. I'll give Wyatt a call and we'll head out to the monastery first thing in the morning."
"Can I go with you?" Olivia batted her eyelashes, smiling sweetly at her husband.
Rubbing the skin above his eyebrows, he thought for a second if bringing Olivia along wouldn't be awkward for Wyatt. However, he shouldn't ignore the fact that it was she who figured out the puzzle that they were solving for years.
"Baby, please?" Olivia pouted for maximum effect even when she needed none. Just by calling him 'baby' was enough for Maxen to give in to her request.
"I didn't hear you," Maxen said, coughing to hide the laugh that was lodged in his throat.
"Baby can I cooome with you, please?"
"Olivia." Maxen kneaded her waist, pulling her closer to him, their chest slammed on impact. "Want to cooome with me, huh?"
Biting her lower lip, Olivia knew she was in trouble. Although Aila Zhang told them to refrain from any sexual activities, Maxen had his ways other than entering her. She knew what came out of his mouth was not a question but a threat and a promise packaged in one.
Not one to back down, Olivia slowly unbuttoned Maxen's dress shirt. "Yes, baby. I want to cooome with you."

"Where are you going? You didn't give me an answer yet," Olivia panicked when Maxen left without a word.
"What? Asked me what?" Maxen asked, halting his step before he reached the door.
"I wanted to go with you tomorrow. I'll stay in the car, I promise," she said and raised her palm, nodding her head.
"I don't know. I heard you were asking your baby. I'm not 'baby'. I will always be your Max." He winked, infuriating Olivia.
"But Max," Olivia uttered, her eyes pooled Oscar-worthy tears as she hooked her finger in the pocket of his pants and bowed.
The next second, her tear dropped, soaking the carpeted floor. It was enough to break Maxen's resolve.
Hugging Olivia, Maxen kissed the side of her head. "Just so you know...I saw you smiling. Nice try." He peeled Olivia off from him, holding her by the shoulders. "I'll ask Wyatt if you can join us. If he says no, then, we can set a date to meet his child. How does that sound?"
Heaving heavily, Olivia sighed her disappointment. How could they count her out if she's the one who made the discovery? "Okay. Okay. Is Wyatt even interested in finding the child?"
"Actually… He's not because he thinks it's a dead-end. "
"Then what happens then if the child is really alive?"
"He'll take responsibility. I know him. He did when he found out Xandra was pregnant but… She filed a restraining order on Wyatt. Saying she was against the idea of him touching the child or even going near her not after how the way the child was conceived."
"And he didn't tell you about Xandra being pregnant?"
Before he answered her question, Maxen opened the door, holding the small of Olivia's back to usher her out. "He didn't want us to butt into his problem. He knew we would convince Xandra to drop the charges without him asking us."
"Or maybe, he didn't like you to convince Xandra," Olivia countered. Remembering the first time she met Wyatt, the two already butted heads. There was something about Wyatt that she didn't like even if he had done nothing wrong against her. 
"Why do you always have negative comments about him?"
Olivia shrugged. "If what everyone says is true that Wyatt is a great guy, then I haven't seen it with my own eyes. So… to see is to believe. Oh my gosh!"
Maxen scooped Olivia up, carrying her bridal-style as he walked down the flight of stairs. "Don't cry if he proves you wrong." He chuckled upon seeing Olivia scrunched her nose and shaking her head in a 'no'. 
Morning came, and another promise of hope could be seen on the horizon. Olivia was in a happy mood as she behaved inside the car on the way to the monastery. Last night when Maxen called Wyatt, the latter said it was fine for Olivia to tag along, adding that it would help him too just in case the child was a girl.
Soon their convoy reached the monastery, and the trio—Maxen, Wyatt, and Olivia— were inside the Mother Superior's office.
"We don't have any children here, Your Highness. We had an age requirement for everyone who wanted to work or join the convent, we don't run an orphanage too," the Mother Superior explained, her hand weaved together sat on top of the desk.
Wyatt was quiet the entire time, looking out the window. "What about those kids, sister… Mother Superior?" Wyatt corrected himself immediately.
"Oh, those are kids from the House of Chamenos. They are here three times a week to learn botany, sewing, and other tools of the trade that would help them land a job in case they age out from the orphanage."
To their shocked, Wyatt tipped a vase over when he walked closer to the window. Sitting by the mango tree was a child with auburn hair, just like him.
"Do you know that child's name?" he asked and looked over his shoulders, ignorant of the water soiling his pants.
Mother Superior stood up, whispering to the nun beside her to go and clean the mess on the floor. She walked at snail-pace towards the window where Wyatt stood. She didn't have to guess who the child was, the bright hair color was a dead giveaway. 
She sighed when she remembered how they first met the poor kid. Forcing the lump down in her throat, Mother Superior regarded the man beside her and a happy smile curved her lips when something told her the child would be coming home soon.
"Aerith. That's the child's name."

"Dax, why are we rushing like this!?"
"Because the sweet little Emperor is planning to seek exile, if he does that then it'll really be a pain to deal with! Now keep up or get left behind!"
Rushing forward with no regards for a proper formation or any other military doctrine Dax cleared rooms at a blistering pace as he advanced in a steadfast manner towards the centre of the castle, the imperial throne room. He didn't make it far before running into resistance, however, as when Dax rounded a mild corner while running along a wall he was met with a dagger which suddenly appeared out of a shadow. Normally such an attack wouldn't be much of a concern as he was wearing his XMRA, but Dax's intuition told him that the dagger steadily closing in on his right eye would tear right through anything standing in its way until it stabbed into his brain.
(Shit!)
Making an instant decision based solely on his intuition Dax sacrificed his left arm to block the strike as he twisted his body mid jump to avoid the dagger which tore straight through his arm and split it apart lengthwise a 3rd of the way to his elbow, narrowly missing his head. 
"Well, that sure is some greeting. Although I am invading this place it still is quite rude to try and outright kill someone like that."
Drawing his cursed sword with his only remaining hand, Dax took a low defensive stance as he held the cursed blade in a reverse grip and covered his injured side while attempting to make small talk to distract his opponent which was currently emerging out of a shadow in front of him. Having emerged fully out of the shadow, Dax identified his opponent as some sort of demi human, although he couldn't nail down the race. Wrapped from head to toe in black cloth and bandages, only a small sliver of the assassin's violet eyes were visible which seemed to scan Dax for openings in a way he had never seen before.
(AUTO REPAIR ENGAGED, TASKING GREYMATTER IN AFFECTED AREA... DONE, 30 SECONDS TILL MINIMUM FUNCTION CAN BE REESTABLISHED.)
(Dax, are you okay?)
(Yeah, or I will be in about half a minute. More importantly, do you think you can block that dagger?)

While his sword was being its usually noisy self Dax appraised his opponent, finding none of the usual weak spots he would normally be exploiting. To make matters worse, serval more figures were emerging out of the seemingly living patch of shadow behind the first assassin, with Dax's instincts telling him that they were all at least as good if not better than their peer who had drawn first blood.
""Dax!""
As both Solaris and Alice finally caught up to Dax they immediately saw his injured state and felt a blind rage build up in their bodies, after all, who would be able to remain calm when they saw people they like getting seriously injured?
"Contact front, multiple confirmed hostiles!"
Noticing the girl's mounting rage shouted out the same command he and Lux used when training to make them realize the situation they currently found themselves in.
This is not the kind of opponents they could take lightly.

Luckily the arrival of Solaris and Alice had given Dax's injury time to heal to an acceptable level and with his hand once more in working order he immediately used it to purge most of his XMRA armour except for the pieces which covered his arms and legs as it couldn't protect him it was just dead weight which would only slow him down, revealing his usual casual wear which he wore under the armour. Meanwhile, Alice and Solaris seemed to have grasped Dax's intentions as Alice slowly exited out the back of her exoskeleton and drew her service weapon and a dagger while Solaris started absorbing the ambient mana.
"Well, I believe I felt a presence following me last time I raided this castle…. Was it perhaps one of you fine ladies?"
With what seemed like the final assassin emerging out of the living shadow, Dax took the opportunity to make the first move as he flared in both mana and bloodlust. Closing the range to the closest assassin almost instantly, he flicked the cursed demon sword into a normal grip as the blade turned bright red, then he swung it down towards the assassin with a considerable amount of force behind the attack, aiming to cleave the person in half down the middle before advancing. Falling into Dax's trap the assassin raised her dagger to block the sudden strike, but to her surprise, the ominous red blade cut right through her weapon without it offering any sort of protection. Reacting instantly to that discovery the silent assassin broke her stance and hooked to the side to avoid Dax's strike, then she brought what was left of her dagger to bare against Dax's exposed throat.
(Damn she good, really good in fact… Now I want her for myself.)

(I meant I want her as an ally, but whatever.)
While answering his extremely flustered sounding demon that seemed to scream inside his head whenever it wanted to, Dax let go of his sword as he stepped backwards to dodge the attack against his throat with only a few millimetres of clearance, then he stepped back into range and used his now free hands to strike the assassins hip and chest at the same time, sending her flying before he caught his sword which was still in mid air.
"You guys really are skilled, why don't all of you come and work for me, dear shadows of the emperor?~"
Sidestepping and blocking the two additional strikes which came the second he exposed himself Dax still had plenty of room to breathe, even when facing multiple of the most skilled assassins in the empire.
The same could not be said for Alice and Solaris however.
"Kuh! Shit, Sol!"
"On it!"
Even after Dax had given them some time to prepare by rushing into the hostiles, the angel and human pair still struggled to keep up while they were constantly forced to give up ground and slowly retreat to avoid being flanked and wiped out. While Solaris and Alice exoskeleton (in remote operation mode) supported Alice, she herself was the only person on the front line. Narrowly avoiding a slash which would have taken her one arm, Alice lept a few meters back before firing a few shots from her fully automatic pistol in an attempt to buy some time while golden crystal swords flew right by her head towards the Shadows.
(Fuck they are relentless, although not as much as Lux.)
Gritting her teeth as her earlier manoeuvre didn't by her more than a few seconds of breathing room, Alice decided to step forward herself as she sliced at an opponent. The only two factors that worked to Alice's advantage her was greatly enhanced body which had been radically strengthened when she was healed by technology from Dax's world and the small amount of training she had received from Lux. She could quite clearly tell that her opponents outclassed her in terms of raw skill and technique, luckily Lux had drilled her extensively in how to deal with opponents which outclassed her. Alice's opponents could also clearly feel that difference in their experience and because of that they continuously tried to exploit openings, but as Alice had spent most of her time under Lux training on how to deal with that, as well as Solaris' support it ended in a stalemate as long as Alice continued to give up ground. While fighting Alice also sent commands to her exoskeleton through the neural link in her armour, making it shoot its shoulder mounted Rex-0999 machinegun every time a shadow threatened to break through her defences and strike at Solaris which continued to hurl out spells at a truly impressive rate. 
Creating another volley of crystal shards Solaris' suit lit up on a purple glow while responding to her requests, but even after trying out a particularly dense hail of shards she still only succeeded in landing grazing hit, something which was starting to annoy the archangel in question greatly.
(Damn it all! Why can't I hit them?!)
But instead of letting the frustration go to her head Solaris started paying even greater attention to her targets while her eyes started glowing in a faint golden hue under her helmet. Observing the mana which was leaking out from her targets Solaris finally realized how they managed to avoid her spells.
(They are reading my mana… Shit.)
By reading the faint amount of mana leaking from Solaris' crystals, the shadow's could effectively mentally reconstruct her spells, making them able to predict how they would track them. Still, such a method was supposed to be extremely taxing, as the Shadows constantly had to mentally reconstruct countless spells in real time in order to predict them, but even after a few minutes of fighting, they showed no signs of slowing down.
(if my current output is not enough to overpower them I simply need to increase it!)
Deciding it was worth to use ascension even if her output would drop a little while she recovered after the fight, Solaris started absorbing even more mana trough her wings, which acted as a clear giveaway to anyone observing her.
(You stupid fucking half pigeon!)
Glancing over to see Solaris easily falling for the opponent's trap, Dax realized that he needed to save his subordinates within the next few seconds, or they would die.


After crash landing in what turns out to be a fantasy world, the orbital marine Dax will have to fight the powers that
occupy the world to reclaim the technology that got stranded along with him and eventually repair his crashed ship
to return to his own world.
On the way he discovers the rule breaking power of mana, a special particle that seems naive to the world he now
is a part of. Feeling seriously outgunned Dax places a priority on regaining his lost weaponry that is scattered
throughout the world, ranging in size and effectiveness from electromagnetically powered assault rifles,
powered exoskeletons and autonomous drones from the size of a spying UAV to heavy assault ships.
But the marine is not alone in his search those weapons, the powers of the world he now finds himself a part of is
quickly realizing that something outside their realm of understanding has graced the planet and that those artefacts
trapped inside large floating black sphere’s hold vast strategic value. Dax is then faced with a complex problem,
he must secure the technology that he needs to leave while at the same time make sure the tools of war from his world is not misused at the cost of being made a target by powers he fails to fully understand.

On his way Dax will have run ins with various powers, some of them hostile, some of them a bit more amenable to persuasion and mutual cooperation. After all, what is a knight, king, angel, demon or grand wizard to a railgun or even a tactical class high energy laser in orbit?

They’re soft targets.


For the record, English is not my first language, so there might be some spelling/grammar mistakes here and there. I’ve been getting better at writing over the last year or so, and have plans to go back and edit my old chapters, but it’s really hard to find the time.

INT. - SILVER CITY COLLEGE - MORNING

Kinsey did her best not to grin at the tall redhead on the other side of her desk, just from sheer excitement. It seemed like she'd been badgering Gerri forever about the book resting on the surface of her desk, the red leather cover bent and worn with age, writing rubbed off so only the faint impression of where the words had been remained.
The blonde anthropologist had no idea what changed her detective friend's mind. Maybe the acceptance of her own abilities, or the fact they had just dealt with a man who couldn't die-Kinsey still blushed at the memory of Jordan and the effect he had on her-which made it impossible for Gerri to deny what they now faced.
Regardless, the fact Gerri sat at all was a miracle in itself. Sure, her crossed foot bobbed, cowboy boot toe dancing on the end of her jiggling knee, a stern and slightly wild look gracing her face. But she was sitting. About as big a miracle as the moment the red-haired Amazon crossed the threshold of Kinsey's office and asked to talk about paranormals.
The "weird", as Gerri called it. Kinsey wasn't about to deny the very thing she'd wanted since the three friends- their medical examiner compatriot Ray part of the deal-reconnected here in Silver City.
"Here's what I know," Kinsey said, falling purposely into teacher mode, seeing Gerri visibly relax as her voice soothed the bigger woman with its practiced, soft firmness. Kinsey's fingers slid over the book as she spoke, ridges hard under her touch. "There seem to be six main races outside of humans, all with specific abilities and gifts." Gerri shuddered slightly, but didn't comment. "There are also cross races created by the interbreeding of the six main ones, in an astonishingly vast array of possibilities." At least, that was her guess. Telling Gerri she knew this for certain was, after all, a bit of a stretch. In fact, the book she'd received from the exorcist priest, Father Dante Delacruz, told her very little of what she shared with Gerri. Instead, she'd pieced together the research she'd done on the artifacts she studied under the oddly unwatchful care of Simone Paris. Kinsey had no doubt the woman had her own agenda, and working on the project for her made it difficult for Kinsey to help Gerri on her cases thanks to her involvement with suspected drug kingpin and nightclub owner, Julian Black. But Kinsey couldn't seem to drag herself away from the fascinating artifacts she studied almost daily in the Black mansion, though she was certain now she had the majority of the symbols copied and carefully smuggled out of the private room.
Weird how she felt little to no guilt about breaking her non-disclosure agreement with Simone. Maybe if the woman had required her to sign a contract... but this was bigger than Simone, bigger than Kinsey or the Collective of All Souls who claimed ownership of the artifacts. This was, in Kinsey's estimation, the biggest single discovery mankind had yet to uncover. And she planned to be in a position to be of help or guidance when the world did finally find out that humans were only a small part of the population of the planet.
Gerri's hand tightened in her lap and Kinsey swallowed, realizing she'd let her mind wander and had fallen silent for too long.
"What races?" The detective's voice sounded rough, heavy. But, she was still listening. Kinsey had faith in the survival of the Universe when Gerri listened.
She looked down at the book, though she didn't need to open it to rattle them off, the symbols and names now burned into her memory.
"Vampir," she said, stressing the word carefully. "Nothing like vampires of pop culture, though. Nothing undead about them." Kinsey's fingers tapped softly on the surface of the book. "Healers, for the most part. I think Ray might be one of them."
Gerri stayed silent, though her eyes narrowed. They both knew their medical examiner friend's ability to identify the cause of death of some of her patients plagued her. Seeing their deaths so clearly had to be unsettling, something she'd been able to do since she was a child. Kinsey now suspected it was only humans, and not paranormals, Ray had such trouble with. That only those without power were open to being read, their deaths an open book to their friend. But it was hard to prove without an actual experiment and Kinsey wasn't sure Ray was inclined to participate.
"Go on," Gerri said. Not impatient, exactly, but insistent.
"Cubi," Kinsey said. "You remember Aisling, the dancer from the Starlet Lounge?" The detective nodded. "She was cubi." The lack of a heart was a dead giveaway. "They feed on the love of others." Sick, really. "Secret keepers to the other races. Fascinating."
Gerri licked her lips. "If you say so."
Kinsey went on before he friend could bolt. "Danu," she said. "Think elves, but not really." It was the best description she could come up with. "Diplomats, mediators and law makers."
"You talk about them like they fill those roles right now." Gerri was definitely regretting her decision, Kinsey could see it on her face. But, she stayed where she was, hands clenching and unclenching in her lap, foot bobbing at a rapid rhythm.
Kinsey nodded, wishing there was a way to break it to the redhead gently. "Gerri," she said, "they are."
The detective exhaled heavily, rubbing her hands over her face. "That's three."
"Next is the dervish," Kinsey said, her own stomach tightening at the thought. "They are the most mentioned in the book." Tap, tap over the rough leather. "What the church consider devils or demons. Highly charismatic, but heartless, sociopathic, who feed on the souls of others."
Gerri's green eyes darkened as the creature inside her wakened. Kinsey wasn't looking forward to talking to her about that. "Are you thinking about who I'm thinking about?"
The reference was obvious and had been to Kinsey since she finally understood who the races were. "Gideon Orter," she said of the Grand Prophet of the Collective of All Souls.
Gerri nodded, jaw jumping. But, she seemed less agitated than before, more focused. "Two more."
Kinsey hesitated, but forged on when her friend's nostrils flared in agitation. "The bheast," she blurted. The redhead shifted in her seat in response, as if understanding it was she Kinsey referenced. "Warriors, capable of feats of massive strength and speed, powerful intuition and heightened sense of loyalty." Whether Gerri wanted to believe it or not, Kinsey just described her to a fault.
The redhead looked away, out the window, fine beads of sweat standing out on her upper lip. "That's me," she whispered into the sudden quiet.
Kinsey wished she could rise and hug her friend, but knew as Gerri's whole body tensed the comfort wouldn't be welcome. To her credit, the detective exhaled again before turning back, wiping at her face again before shrugging.
"Finally," Kinsey said, rushing on, "the Nightshades."
Gerri cocked her head to one side, frowning. "You?"
"Perceptive," Kinsey said with a wry lip twist, her heart pounding, excitement making her lips twitch with the need to grin. Knowing at last what she was made her giddy with the need to understand more. "The Nightshades are the rulers of the other races, their ability to control the minds of others granting them the power over all." Kinsey shivered inside. Ever since she could remember, she'd been able to manipulate and influence those around her with the subtle touch of her mind. Now she understood why, though wondered at the weakness of her ability.
"And humans," Gerri said. "The seventh race."
Kinsey sat back, hands steepling in front of her as she considered what to say about that. "They used to be slaves," she said, "from what I can tell. But the Nightshades decided to set them free for some reason." That part still confounded and confused her. She waved off Gerri's intake of breath, knowing what the redhead was going to ask. "No clue why," she said. "But since then, the paranormal races have gone into hiding and only the church has made a point of hunting those who show ability, though I doubt even they know why anymore."
"The artifacts you're studying," Gerri said, pointedly refusing to say Simone's name, Kinsey noticed, "how much history are they giving you?"
"More than the book," she said, caressing it once again. "The church's interpretation included hellfire and brimstone, exorcisms and devils born on earth. All dogma and lies, of course. But, I can see how humans-especially coming out of the Dark Ages and into the influence of the Church-might see anyone as different from them as being in league with the Devil."
"Which means we can't really trust what's in there." Gerri pointed at the book, green eyes careful.
Kinsey could see her friend's attempt at brushing this off, could feel it. And sighed, shaking her head. "I have more than enough confirmation from the artifacts to back up everything I've read," she said to Gerri's visible irritation. "While the Church's goals might have been to deny and eradicate all paranormals without fully understanding why, the translations of the artifacts give a solid enough basic history for me to confirm the truth." She refused to back down when Gerri's creature-her bheast-rose in her eyes to challenge her. "Like it or not, we have proof, Gerri. We're not human. And it's likely a large percentage of the population aren't either."
Kinsey let that sink in a moment. Gerri fussed and shifted, scowled and grumbled. But the detective wasn't a fool or so stubborn she'd refuse to accept the writing on the wall. At least, Kinsey hoped not. When the redhead met her eyes again at last, there was enough grim acknowledgment in her gaze Kinsey relaxed.
"How much longer do you need with the artifacts to get what you can from them?" Gerri's question surprised her, as did her acceptance. Kinsey shrugged.
"I'm mostly done now," she said, understanding her mistake the moment she spoke. The detective's green eyes sparked as she dropped her foot to the floor from her knee with a heavy thump, leaning forward to glare at the blonde.
"Then why the hell," the detective snarled, "are you still working for Simone Paris?"
Well, damn it, Kinsey thought. How could she explain to the redhead about the odd compulsion she felt to continue studying the artifacts? That the draw was almost an addiction? That Kinsey herself mostly refused to accept her curiosity was the only thing keeping her at the mansion? Hard to ignore it with Gerri glaring her full in the face.
"Kins." The detective's big hands settled on the desk, intensity coming from her in waves. "You need to get the hell away from that woman."
Kinsey knew and understood Gerri was right. "I know," she said, surprised how low and controlled her own voice was. "I think Simone is part Nightshade too, Gerri. And possibly dervish."
Gerri's fingers clenched on the edge of the desk. "Meaning?"
"She's using me for something outside of the artifact translations." Kinsey had suspected it for quite some time now.
"And you're still there." Gerri sat back suddenly, looking away with her irritation written all over her tall, broad-shouldered body. "Idiot."
Kinsey laughed softly. "Yup," she said.
The two met gazes while the blonde forced the reticence inside her to still and go quiet.
"I'll quit," Kinsey said, surprised at how much those two words hurt to speak. "But you can't turn your back on this ever again, Gerri. We need to deal with situations and issues without you pretending nothing weird is going on."
The detective grunted, shoulders shifting inside her jacket as her pocket buzzed. She fished out her smartphone, checked the screen, frowned. Looked up as she stood, tucking it into the inside pocket again.
"Deal," she said. "Go kick Simone to the curb. And come back to work."

Daniel didn't have time to digest the full impact of the boy bleeding on the snow turning out to be the person he had been waiting to see all afternoon because he heard quick footsteps approaching. He was relieved to see two people he recognised come out the darkness dressed in thick coats.

The Scarlet Wren house prefect and his cousin. He had never been so relieved to see Christopher.

"Daniel, what's going on?" Liam asked sharply. "Christopher said he saw something strange out his window."

Christopher was faster on the uptake and came to crouch on the melting snow next to him. Daniel didn't bother to swap pleasantries with his cousin, there were more important things to worry about.

"Have you called an ambulance?" he asked urgently.

"I did," Daniel confirmed. "I have to stay here and not move him."

Liam read the nametag on Felix's jacket and sighed heavily. He didn't seem to want to look at his face.

"I need to get the housemaster," he said and hurried back into the building.

This left Christopher and Daniel to watch over Felix. Daniel kept his fingers on his pulse and began to get concerned when it became even more erratic.

Christoper moved Felix's dark hair out of the way to reveal his pale and bloodstained face. As he did so Felix's visible eye fluttered open briefly and locked gazes with Daniel. His mouth twitched like he was about to speak and then his eye closed slowly.

"Did you see where he fell from?" Christopher questioned. "It can't have been the clock tower- he would be dead."

Daniel looked up again at the roof that corresponded with where Daniel was lying in the snow. If he remembered his tour correctly, it was the roof over the science block. It wasn't the highest roof, as Christopher had said, that was the clock tower. The thick layer of snow had prevented him from dying instantly.  However, if the ambulance didn't arrive soon, Felix might pass away right in front of him. He thought of how long it had taken him to get to the school and winced.

"I can't believe it's happened again," Christopher muttered.

Daniel looked sharply at him. He was about to ask what he meant when he heard the faint sound of a siren. It was hard to hear due to the loud wind and snow buffeting his ears, but he was sure he could hear something.

"It's on the road behind the school," his cousin explained. "The road loops around, it should be here in five minutes."

The prediction turned out to be correct. Felix's unconscious form was taken away by paramedics and a police car arrived soon after. This drew a crowd of pupils from different houses in various states of dress outside in the cold.

The pupils were in varied states of shock. There were three figures at the back watching the proceedings with stony faces. The younger pupils were whispering eagerly. Daniel was only able to catch fragments whilst he was waiting for the police to speak with him.

"It's happened again..."

"....said it would be him next..."

"...it was going to happen sooner rather than later..."

It appeared that Felix was not the first student to be found dying in the snow. Daniel made a mental note to interrogate his cousin later. Christopher wasn't fond of him, but he wasn't the type to lie either.

An hour later found Daniel being half dragged to the canteen by the four house prefects. By now it was half seven and he was feeling the strain and the cold. He had given a statement to the police and to the housemaster. The canteen was mostly empty as everyone was either still outside gossiping or returned to their rooms.

The prefects led him to a table at the very back of the seating area. The prefect with impressively long and shiny black hair kept showering him with compliments whilst the one with heavy black eyeliner stared at him silently. Liam and the remaining prefect left and came back with five steaming cups.

"Here you go,Daniel," Liam said and gave him the first cup which had a different handle to the other four cups. "You look freezing."

Daniel accepted the warm cup and wrapped his almost frozen hands around it. The contents of the cup looked to be coffee which he hated so he took a small sip to appease Liam and put it back down.

"You reacted quickly," the long haired prefect commented. "I'm David Wang, by the way. I'm the prefect of the Golden Lion house. You can move to my house if you like. You're pretty enough."

It was hard to find a polite way to respond to those statements. David was clearly gay and might be sounding him out.

"...Thanks?" Daniel answered unsurely. 

His eyes moved along to the dark haired one with a little too much eyeliner. Whoever he was, he looked like he would rather be anywhere else.

David handled the introduction for him.

"He's James Mackenzie, the prefect of the Violet Rose house. He hates being addressed by his first name. Call him Raven, he's a bit emo."

Daniel raised an eyebrow. To say he was a bit emo seemed to be an understatement. The more he looked at Raven the more giveaway signs there were from the bracelets to the piercings.

He turned his attention to the stoic looking one in the green striped tie. As far as Daniel remembered from the prospectus the green dorm was known as the Green Oak house.

"I'm Fenston Alderidge," the final prefect greeted pompously. "Aren't you going to drink your coffee? I made it especially for you. It's decaf so it won't keep you up."

When he phrased it like that it came across as creepy. Daniel pretended to gulp some down and held onto the cup so he could angle it out of view. He was beginning to feel like he shouldn't drink it. Something strange was in the air. His previous life as a detective useful for things like this.

"Are you going to be okay to sleep alone tonight?" Liam asked.

The thought of being too shaken to sleep hadn't occurred to Daniel yet. He had seen a lot in his past life.

"I would prefer to be alone," he answered. "I'm going to bed now. Goodnight."

He stood up from the table, still holding the cup and walked across the canteen until he saw the area for used cups. He discreetly poured the coffee into the other dirty cups and walked out the canteen.

His suspicions about something not being quite right at Kingston Royal Academy had been building up and he didn't trust the four prefects. Their insistence on making him drink coffee had been odd. Tea or even Horlicks would have been the more typical drinks to offer him. Coffee was too bitter on its own to be a comforting drink.

When he reached the area outside where Felix had landed, he looked up again. Had he been imagining the figure he saw? If there had been someone up there with him it would mean that they were keeping quiet about it. Either it had been an accident and Felix had lost his footing or he had been pushed off.

There was also the suggestion that something similar had happened before. He would have to find Christopher and ask him. As far as he remembered from awkward family gatherings, Christopher was in the Green Oak house.

Once he had reached his room, he placed his suitcase in front of the door so he could have a warning if someone opened it. Then he crossed over to Felix's side. He still wasn't sure what had led to Felix bleeding out in the snow, but he knew something was off about it.

He opened the wardrobe first and his resolve wavered because he was being stared down by three cats. 

The body he had been reborn was strongly allergic to cats.

In his past life his death had been caused by a cat.

The best way to sum it up would be to say that he hated cats with a passion.

He closed his eyes and opened them. The cats were definitely there, it wasn't his mind playing tricks on him. By now the cats had lost interest in him and were more focused on licking each other.

Daniel waited for the inevitable itchy feeling his nose and for the sneezing fit. It appeared that Felix was one of those annoying people that sneaked animals into places they weren't welcome. He decided to ignore the cats and look around the wardrobe. From a brief look, all he could see were clothes and Felix's open suitcase that the cats were residing in.

One of the cats mewled at him and he noticed that it had damp looking fur. It suggested that the cat had been outside in the day. It couldn't have found its way into the wardrobe by itself, Felix must have picked it up and put it there to keep it out the snow.

Due to the lack of warmth in the room the fur wouldn't dry very fast. It had snowed on and off all day, but it had been snowing when he had arrived with his father. Daniel himself had reached the room mid afternoon. That meant that Felix been outside, picked up the cat and taken it back to the room sometime shortly before he had been given a tour.

He closed the wardrobe. He wasn't sure what to do with the cats yet. Whilst he hated cats, he wasn't the type of person to let them die. If the worst came to the worst he could get Chrisopher to feed them. He knew that his cousin had an annoying affection for cats.

The next place to search was the bed. The mattress proved to be difficult to pull up and ultimately revealed nothing so he moved onto the pillowcase. His hand hit something hard and flat. He pulled it out and found a notebook.

If it had been a movie, the notebook would have detailed something important that he needed. Instead it was just full of recipes and photos of cakes. The cake reminded Daniel that he had missed dinner and he sighed. 

Perhaps there wasn't anything mysterious going on at Kingston Royal Academy and he was being too paranoid. Then he turned to the most recent page to find nothing written apart from a date.

He committed the date to memory just in case it was useful and hesitated on replacing the notebook. If it wasn't important there wouldn't have been a need for Felix to hide it in his pillow so he concealed it under his own mattress for safekeeping.

Felix's desk revealed nothing of interest apart from his high grades and a polaroid of himself with another pupil. As Daniel had only seen his face in poor light, he had no real idea of what Felix looked like in normal conditions.

He had piercing green eyes and uncannily pale skin. His black hair was well styled and tidy. The other person in the photo was unfamiliar to Daniel . He had a much smaller frame and was the polar opposite of Felix. He looked shy, had tanned skin and had long fair hair.

He turned the polaroid over to check for something on the back and found nothing. He replaced it where he had found it. The only notable discovery apart from the cats and the notebook was the lack of a personality. There weren't any family photos or any letters from parents. Daniel had taken a few photo frames of his family, or rather his mother had forced them on him.

With nothing else to do, he prepared for bed. He repositioned his suitcase against the door again after leaving to use the bathroom. He was still feeling jumpy and the lack of a lock was not helping him feel secure.

A clattering noise very close by woke him from his sleep. He was about to reach for the bedside light when he realised that there were people in his room who had knocked over his suitcase when they opened the door.

"Are you sure he's asleep?" a voice that sounded like Liam whispered.

"I checked the cup after he left; he drank enough to be in deep sleep," Fenston hissed back.

"Hurry up!" Raven growled. "He might be unable to wake up, but we didn't drug the whole floor."

"Raven's right," David drawled. "We need to find what Felix found and get out of here."

Daniel knew his concerns about something suspicious at Kingston Royal Academy had been fully justified. The prefects had drugged him so they could search the room. 

He had to find out the truth or he might end up the same way as Felix.

Daniel thinks he has it hard going through school again at a snobby all boys academy in the middle of nowhere.

Instead his first day ends with his roommate bleeding out into the snow right in front of him.

His boring second life just got interesting and dangerous.

I'm back outside my house, I deactivated my suit and went inside and directly went up to my room, I closed the window and the door then I released nanites and made a replicator then i turned on my laptop and upgrade it and now looks more sci fi and more stronger than any computer that currently exists. I started planning which industry my company will start with, and i happen to love games a lot so i'll create the perfect game, i started first creating a personal powerful game engine it took few minutes to finish it and now i have to register my company which is the easiest thing to do, so i left my room and locked the door then i went outside to fill company documents.

The place was near my house so i entered the building and went to the required office and said what i want then they gave me some papers to fill and payment is 23 dollars which is cheap, after filling paper i got my license and went back home and i found my father watching tv so i sat with him and told him about my plans, anyway my company's name is Helix.

After i finished talking with my father i went back to my room and browsered any buildings for sale and i found plenty so i made a choice to purchase a big house near my own, that house will be remodeled to an office.

Tomorrow i'll be meeting with the owner and finish up paperwork, now i started creating the game world which is a planet with two moons, i'll allow players to develop the world like survive and build shelter, towns and cities etc.

The world is called Zeroth but that will not be the game's name, the planet is twice bigger than earth and has wild life similar to earth but with more of myth creatures, the game will give the players freedom of choice, they can create clans and establish a base and can also take over the world is they have the power to.

There are no classes to choose from, players can pick up their style of playing and develop and if they reach level 100 they'll get to publish a class with their style but of course that is optional.

The graphics are very realistic then any game that currently exists, but don't worry the game will be compressed and will accompany an optimization that the game will world in any computer whether low-end or high-end, there is also a store system but it's currently closed, i also built a GM tool easy to use for myself and now i'm creating a website interface now.

It took all night without sleeping and eating now and then since i have a replicator near me, i built a server inside my closet using nanites, and uploaded the website to it including the game.

And it's now online and will carry 1 million players but first I need to start a game testing giveaway for 50,000 people so they can promote the game and at the same time give feedback so i can improve it more.

I released a few smart bots to the game, smart that players will think they're players too but in fact they're npc's. 
The npc's will start same as players with the choice to develop but they don't have access to few players features but also can reproduces like normal humans, and the time of day and night is smaller than the real world, like in the day we have 24 hours but in the game it's 12 hours.

I ordered Sel to create a trailer of the game and produce music fitting to it and then I created a youtube channel, anyway the game's name is Zeroth World.

I published the game's trailer and held a giveaway of the first batch of players that will test the game. Then i turned my computer off and then I slept in.

I woke up early and now i'm currently outside heading to the house i bought, i entered it has 4 levels and a roof. I released my nanites to do their work. The first floor will be full of computers and desks, then the second floor will host 5 rooms with beds, and the third and fourth floor will be full of servers.

I transferred all the data from my server in my room to the servers in this house I'm in. i'll call it Helix HQ for now. I brought all my stuff to my new room in Helix HQ, and invited my cousin and my few Hisham to join in.

I went to the roof and activated my suit and went to space there i built a strong satellite that will boost my internet and connection to the world and connected it to the servers and went back to the roof and deactivated my suit and went to my office then i looked at youtube video i published about the game.

820,192 views and lots of comments so i went to the website and looked at the forum, there i found a post that has lots of replies.

Huh, then I opened the website's control panel and went to the giveaway second and looked at the entries and it went over 900,000 people so I ordered Sel to choose the great ones that will help promote the game in the future.

After a few minutes the 50,000 players have been chosen and received the game client.

Few days went by the blink of an eyes, my cousin is with me here and our friend both playing the game, we got lots of ideas and feedback and improved the game, then we released it worldwide, the game can accommodate millions of players at once and the language barriers is solved by Sel, she create an AI that will monitor the game world 24/7 and translate what players are saying to other players that don't speak the same language.

My cousin came and asked me to turn him into a vampire and so i did, and our friend decided to stay human, but i injected him with ninates and gave him a virtual assistance similar to Sel but a little bit weaker.

The cure of the coronavirus has been announced a while back by the doctor i handed the formula to, and now the outbreak is no more and people are back to their everyday life free of quarantine.
The game is getting popular but now i'm doing research on what technology i'll release next, and we decided to do mobile phones.
Advanced graphene phones with a custom made system faster than anything ever seen, so i built an underground in the house and set up robots to start producing and about the materials i don't need to purchase them i can release nanites to form robots with human appearance and go mine stuff around the world for me if not there is always another planet somewhere with rich resources.

The first phone is finished and we three each added ideas to it and the system is also ready, we named the system Alpha since it will soon stand above all other systems, and also we gave the phone the same name.

I sent the information to all robots underground to start producing the first batch, and about my universal travel i got an idea of researching a ship that will go with me and also to take people with, and decided this only time i'll dominate the world with technology but next time i'll go to destroying again but not before exploring and collect hehehe.

I got out the building, this time i didn't activate my suit i simply started walking outside to get some air, but then i received some new information and that is a meteor heading for earth, the meteor isn't small nor big, the damage it will do i wipe out two cities but the meteor is a bit abnormal and so i sent some probe to collect data.
