Humans couldn't stand the presence of ants and insects in their homes, and similarly, Agatha felt the urge to get rid of humans for they were ants as far as her power was concerned.
In the end, every lifeform was an ant from the perspective of a comparatively superior being. There was no concept of good or evil involved. It was just plain instincts to not care about the life of a weaker form of life.
The urge Kiba felt was countless times stronger as his entire 'Kiba' form was created by the Cosmic Spark. Every single cell in his body was powered by the cosmic force, unlike Agatha who only inherited a single cosmic particle.
Her source of power was both Divine Particles and the cosmic particle so the urge for getting rid of 'annoying pests' was comparatively weaker. The other factor which worked for her was that she only felt this urge when she used her powers.
He, on the other hand, was someone whose entire Kiba form ran by the cosmic force so whether he uses his powers or not, it didn't matter. As long as he was in 'Kiba' form, he has to constantly fight his instincts.
Of course, the more power he uses, the harder it becomes to suppress his feelings just like the time in the wasteland.
Kiba looked around in the lab and then finally at Agatha. She was somewhat relieved to share her secret with someone she could trust.
"You have to use your powers," Kiba caressed her face and said, "I know how bad that feeling could be, but you have to learn to adapt otherwise what will you do when you are in danger?"
Agatha was startled by his words. She knew what he said was true but she found it hard to use her power with all the urge she has.
"The best way to control that urge is to do what you truly love," Kiba brushed off her black hair as he continued, "If you are happy then the burden you will feel from your powers will be lower."
Agatha looked at him in surprise. He sounded as if he had experience in dealing with the same feeling.
"If your life is crammed up with unhappiness then you can never truly fight your instincts," Kiba's expression turned grave as he continued, "Also, don't think not using your powers is the best way to suppress that urge. The less power you use, the harder it would become to control yourself as you age. So use your powers while also indulging yourself in what gives you joy."
Agatha didn't dare believe what his words implied. Could he truly have similar power as mine?
"Do you have that power as well?" Agatha couldn't help but ask.
"You could say so," Kiba's voice was filled with sadness, "I trust you but I can't share the details with you. Forgive me."
The truth was that their powers were different. What she inherited was just a cosmic particle, unlike Kiba who possessed the Cosmic Spark.
It has to be known that Castor Damon and the world government believed the Cosmic Spark was the power source of the world from where the meteorites originated. So how can the powers of Agatha and Kiba be considered the same?
Kiba couldn't bring himself to lie to her so he replied ambiguously. What he said was an incomplete truth.
"It is fine," Agatha replied with a smile, "I hope there would come a day when you can share everything with me."
"Yeah, I will like that," Kiba smiled as well.

A few hours later.
Kiba appeared upon balustrade of a terrace.
"Time to deal with the last loose end," Kiba thought. He has already punished Sarah and Daniel but one man still remained unpunished!
Erone! The young guard!
Claudia has given him the address of Erone days ago but he was busy with other matters so the punishment was delayed.
[[Are you truly going to punish him?]] Claudia's voice came from his watch.
"Of course," Kiba nodded his head.
[[Is that so?]] Claudia sounded somewhat amused.
Kiba was confused by her tone but he didn't think much of it. He turned towards the building opposite him. His vision wasn't obstructed by the walls and soon, he could see the inside of the apartment which belonged to Erone.
"He truly made a fortune for himself!" Kiba remarked as he saw the well-off apartment in a middle-class community. The apartment was filled with the latest gadgets whether it was the virtual gaming console or the security apparatus.
Suddenly Kiba's eyes turned wide with disbelief as his vision passed on the bedroom wall. He was so startled that he fell from the balustrade.
"!"
Kiba regained his control after falling past a few floors. He flew back to the terrace and then rubbed his eyes as if to make sure there was nothing wrong with them.
"Am I dreaming?" Kiba muttered to himself as his vision once again focused on the bedroom's interior walls.
[[No.]] Claudia replied matter of factly.
"Then what the hell is that!?" Kiba asked in disbelief.
The interior walls of the bedroom were covered with posters of more than fifty women. The women were in various styles of clothing: bikini, party dress, and even business suits.
That didn't startle Kiba. What truly made him lost his balance was a poster in the middle of a wall.
The poster depicted a throne upon which a man was sitting. The man has golden hair and his eyes were a mix of blue and gold.
Yes! The subject of this poster was none other than Kiba!
It was as if Kiba was the emperor while the women in the posters were his harem. This especially seemed true after Kiba remembered the identities of the women!
They were the women with whom he has either one night stand or an affair! Of course, there were hundreds of women with whom he had a relationship but the women in the posters were the ones confirmed by the gossip portals.
"How can this be?" Kiba muttered to himself.
[[I seem to recall you were going to punish someone]] Claudia said, ignoring his words of surprise.
"You knew?" Kiba remembered how she sounded amused a few minutes ago.
[[Of course. He is your fan so this is nothing surprising.]] Claudia answered.
"Fan?" Kiba flinched. He has heard fans of sportsmen, models, and actors but never of someone from his profession!
[[Open your phone.]] Claudia was having fun.
Kiba opened his phone. A video popped up, something that was borrowed from the security logs of White Angel Corporation. Claudia has also provided subtitles of the conversation based on the lip movement.
The video showed Jack losing consciousness after taking a slap from Kiba. Thanks to the fast aid, Jack regained his consciousness in no time.
He then asked a young guard around on 'what happened' as he wasn't sure how he was defeated. The guard was none other than Erone who seemed excited as he recalled the valor of Kiba.
When Kiba heard the entire conversation between Erone and Jack, he was left speechless. He would have doubted the content of the video if it was not given to him by Claudia.
"Is this for real?" Kiba didn't know how to react. It was the first time in his life that he has faced such a situation.
A few minutes later, Kiba saw Erone happily opening the door to his apartment. When he entered the bedroom, his expression turned of a follower.
With deep reverence, he bowed towards the poster of Kiba.
"Lord Kiba, today I was able to conquer my friend's girlfriend!" Erone was like a devotee giving a confession to his god, "Just weeks ago, I was a man who has never tasted the holy juice! But now I have tasted a dozen variety all thanks to your blessings!"
Far away, Kiba flushed as listened to the confession of his loyal devotee.
"O' great lord, there is this woman I like but alas she is married!" Erone knocked on the floor before continuing, "O' great wife hunter, impart me your ticks so that I can help that poor woman!"
Kiba was thick-skinned but today he was embarrassed. 
"O' great savior of women, bless me so that I can bless the women on your behalf!"

A thread of glimmering white shone in the distance. The thread shone as bright as a star and drew the eye of any person that could see it. The thread stretched infinitely and it wasn't alone.

Multiple threads of glimmering star light spread out connecting to one another, passing, overlapping, and converging. All the thread connected formed a specific object, a specific occurrence, it looked like a web.

The glittering web of starlight shimmered in its dark surroundings as it minded its own business. Every now and then a strand of the web would glow brighter before simmering down.

This web was something that transcended the multiverse, something that connected them and allowed them all to converge; it was 'The Web of Life and Destiny'.

At the moment a small distance away from the glittering web a small patch of blackness started to appear. At first it appeared as nothing, before after a few seconds it forming into a figure. The figure couldn't be seen for another few minutes, only being a shadow that stood staring right at the web.

All that could be seen from the darkness were the eyes. The pools of black, that were its eyes, seemed to be endless as if an abyss into nothing. The figure slowly raised their hands and reached out towards the web. But something seemed to stop the figure. After their hand reached a certain distance it couldn't move any further.

Finally after a few minutes the darkness contracted on the figure. Where the darkness used to be a robed figure now stood. The robe was more of a cape as it trailed behind the person. They were wearing a sash around their waist and a form fitting black top and pants. 

Their midriff, arms and legs were all in plain view showing off their pale white skin. From their outward appearance and body shape it was easy to tell that the person was a female. She had her cowl up obscuring her face from view.

This woman stood in the same place for an unknown amount of time before finally something else happened. 

Next to the woman in black a ragging inferno suddenly sprung into existence. It started out as a small spark of fire, then turning into a circle of fire on the floor, before finally expanding into an inferno blasting outwards.
 
But the woman in black wasn't disturbed; actually none of the fire touched the woman in black. It was if there was an invisible barrier that stopped any of the flames from touching her. 

The inferno raged on for a little while before finally turning into a pillar of fire. The pillar of fire was around 10 meters high, but as time went on, the pillar started to compress in on itself, again and again and again, before finally settling into the outline of another woman.

The woman had fire for hair and clothes, and no discernible features could be seen if they had any.

Standing next to each other the woman in black didn't turn to look at the new arrival as she spoke. "Phoenix. Did he call you here to?" The voice was ethereal and cold. The now identified Cosmic Entity, Phoenix, stood still and didn't answer, instead looking at the web in front of it.
 
Her features slowly started to morph and the complete form of fire started to resemble a human. The fire raging about retracted and concentrated into the hair. It stayed alight as a girl's face appeared. The face of the beauty continued to stare at the web as if nothing was said, their eyes flickering between green and red.

Not hearing a reply the black figure turned towards the Phoenix. The black eyes stared at the Phoenix for little while before she spoke again. "Ahh, a new host. You haven't even awakened yet. This is only a projection."

The black figure tilted their head moving their eyes up and down. "I don't know, she's pretty cute, but I think you could do better." The Phoenix finally moved her head away from the web and looked at the person next to her. 

"Death. Don't even start. Or I'll bring up that Mad Titan that is trying to court you." The black garbed woman, know as Death, one of the greatest Cosmic Beings in the multiverse, let out a small laugh as she waved the comment off. "Don't get me started on that love struck fool. But you never answered my question." Death's voice turned serious. "Did he call you here as well?"

The Phoenix looked at death for a few more seconds before turning back to the web. "Yes, Yes he did." Death gave a small nod as they both began to wait. They didn't have to wait long though as a new person finally appeared.
 
A man appeared at the center of the web. His features were obscured a little by the hood he wore, but he cut an imposing figure. The man started to walk out from the web and approach the two cosmic entities.

They both patiently waited as he finally arrived before them. No one said a thing for the first few minutes before the Phoenix spoke up. "Why did you call us Weaver? I don't have much time with this projection."

The weaver looked at her for a few seconds before he finally replied. He turned his back to them and motioned towards the web. "Phoenix, the entity of Destruction and Rebirth and Lady Death, well I guess that one is self explanatory."

"I know you've both been searching for a way to connect the web and yourselves. Usually I would steer thing so such an occurrence doesn't happen. Not many totems can handle your powers, or even a linkage, between just one of you. Actually it would take one of my best totems to even try."

Both entities shot each other a look as a small expectation began to grow in their minds. Yes they had been trying for millennia now to form a connection with the web. It would greatly transcend their powers if such an occurrence happened. 

But it was too hard a task; with the weaver looking over his totems, they never had a chance. Death was especially attuned to most totems as they were snatched from her clutches again and again, always surviving when they shouldn't.

"Yes it is as you thought." The weaver wave his hand and a small projection of a Peter Parker appeared in front of them. He was sitting on the couch with another silver haired woman leaning in close. "I'm sure you might recognize him, Phoenix."

The Phoenix turned her head to the screen before her red eyes turned green, a slow amount of shock appearing in them. The weaver spoke up. "Yes it is the man your current host likes. It was a coincidence really, a happy occurrence as it were."

"What do you mean?" The weaver let out a chuckle. "You've both know me for many years; I always have a backup, a different plan, a replacement should something go wrong. And I know, you both know how much time I have been putting into the totem at the center." They both gave a small nod as they looked at the center of the web. 

"I have been testing the center for a long time now, throwing obstacles in his way, some even I wasn't sure if he could overcome." He waved his hand at the projection once again. "That's why I created replacements, backups as they were. Totems put through as many tests as the center, strengthened through loss and pain."

Finally the weaver let out a small sigh. "Even for me, to set up these replacements took up so much energy, and even then, this one was the only one to survive. And his survival has given you a rare chance."

"I don't have to worry about the center of the web anymore, he has passed his trials. He had proven his worth, he is irreplaceable now." The weaver turned back to them a small smile gracing his lips. "I will not interfere if you try to make a connection with this Totem, it will depend on your luck and determination for how the web may change. Even I am interested in what may happen."

He held up a hand though before they left. "Though I will not allow, coercion or domination with your cosmic powers, you can only create a connection in a natural way. If you do otherwise I will stop you." He turned to Death who had put her hood down. 

A woman with model good looks and white pale skin starred back into the eyes of the Weaver. Her pitch black eyes had turned to something considered normal, except her whole iris kept the black coloring, while her raven black hair cascaded over the back of her hood. 

"I would suggest you find a host Death." Death gave a glittering smile as she turned away from the Weaver, plans and thoughts dashing through her mind. She would have to find the perfect host to create a connection between her and the totem. First she would have to gather information though.

Just before she left the Weaver gave a small smirk. "Ohh and Death" She turned to look at him. "I suggest you stop your other boyfriend from getting jealous, if he goes through with his valentines gift all your plans might be ruined." Death stood still for a second before darkness shrouded her figure and she disappeared.  

The Weaver then looked at the Phoenix who was also about to leave. She had a self assured look of victory on her face already. And she had ever reason, because the form she took, the one that had the victory smirk, was an exact replica of Jean Grey.

With a flash of fire she disappeared and the Weaver moved back towards the web. One of his 6 eyes drifted to the Totem in question and a flash of anticipation appeared in it. Even for him this would be a first. 

He couldn't wait to see what happens.

Peter Parker, Spider-Man has lost it all. All he has left is his Duty. He will protect the city, till his dying breath.

Peter Parker has lost it all, his home, his aunt, and his friends. All he has left is his duty to the city, his presence keeping crime at bay. 
A few months after the battle of New York, Peter gets by living on the streets. His only friend a red haired woman named Natasha. 
With people from his past turning up, new Super Heroes appearing everywhere and mutants on the rise, will his life continue to spiral out of control? Or will something turn him around and make him the man he always was?

I’m writing this novel for fun so there is no release schedule. All chapters will fluctuate in length depending on many factors. I am writing an original for my main story and this is just a side project so there is no overarching plot going forwards just an imagination of the marvel landscape with different changes. 

This novel will follow the MCU timeline with changes such as the introduction of greater marvel characters and groups, fluctuation in ages, and comic alterations.

I hope you enjoy this re-imagining.

Super Chen and the others were wild with excitement after receiving the game pods.
"The Office of Strategic Deception really gave us such a great gift this time!" In the Grade One, Class Three squad chat group, Super Chen shared pictures of the game pod from various angles.
Fang Xing sent a grinning emoji. "Not posting them in WeChat Moments?"
"Senior Odd Zhuo already called to tell us to keep it under wraps. Getting this gift is more than enough; there's no need to share it on WeChat." Super Chen said off-handedly, "But it's a bit of a pity; somehow, I feel like I've forgotten something about the virtual game we played yesterday."
Right after he said that, Dopey Guo and Little Peanut also agreed.
Dopey Guo: "Super? You feel like you forgot something, too? How strange… I feel the same."
Little Peanut tensed up. "Don't tell me it's a side effect?"
"Don't worry, it can't be a side effect."
Fang Xing reassured them. "The virtual game pods you experienced are the latest model, and the game you played is the newest one. The game pod was designed to be connected to the brain, but in order not to overload yours, forgetting is in fact a normal phenomenon after coming out of the pod. Furthermore, the game you experienced yesterday was a restricted beta version which is still a secret."
This speech was something Fang Xing and everyone at the Office of Strategic Deception had settled on after some discussion.
Actually, the memories of the No. 60 High School squad had been tampered with after the game.
Divine Dao Star was going to establish diplomatic relations with Earth right away, and Guo Ping, a distant uncle of Dopey Guo's who did research, would become their space ambassador.
If Super Chen and the others still remembered the incident with Guo Ping… The whole thing would be blown open.

It was September 2nd, the twentieth day of the summer vacation.
Guo Ping, who had disappeared in outer space on a mission, returned to Earth, shocking the entire world.
But most importantly, Guo Ping brought back a gift from Divine Dao Star this time: it was something which Star Lord of Divine Dao Star called a "cosmic gem." Now, it had become an important symbol of the establishment of diplomatic relations between mankind and Divine Dao Star.
Guo Ping and the head of state together attended a meeting held in the United Nations summit conference room. True Immortal head of states from every country were gathered together; it was an imposing and powerful atmosphere to astonish anyone.
The conference was made public this time, and the whole world followed the meeting proceedings closely. This was the first time mankind was establishing diplomatic relations with an alien civilization, and it seemed everyone was being very cautious.
The heads of all the countries were similarly worried about expansion by alien civilizations.
They were basically the type to be vigilant in times of peace. This was a group of very suspicious people, so Guo Ping naturally couldn't give a truthful account. Otherwise, there would be one or two leaders at this summit who would definitely start to deploy measures to defend against an alien invasion… If this led to a misunderstanding, that would be a real issue.
When you hung out with your friends, you would never carry a fruit knife on you to guard against them, would you?
That would be an act of mistrust… 
All these heads of state were overly suspicious people. Guo Ping knew the importance of his report this time. He wanted to put an end to these leaders' paranoia.
After all, with Miss Bai Qiao and Student Wang Ling this good luck charm around, Divine Dao Star would no longer act presumptuously toward Earth anymore.
"Professor Guo, will you please give your report on Divine Dao Star first," said Oligei, Mixiu nation's dark-skinned head of state.
Behind him stood his personal bodyguard — it was none other than the hero cultivator Silky Web Heroine of the Mixiu Alliance of Cultivators.
Immortal Toya had met Silky Web Heroine once before, and had been utterly amazed at how she spurted spider silk from her butt in the battle with Devil Gut Fungus Lord.
Silky Web Heroine initially wasn't going to be at this conference because of her abnormal spider silk ejection (also known as abnormal leukorrhea). However, considering this was the first time that mankind was establishing diplomatic ties with an alien civilization, Silky Web Heroine had spent a lot of money to get Immortal Toya to make medicine for her.
Ever since the battle with Devil Gut Fungus Lord, the Office of Strategic Deception's international sect standing had also improved markedly; as leader of the medicine team, Immortal Toya's reputation had also been boosted.
Now, the Office of Strategic Deception's medicine team was receiving more and more orders from abroad.
Mixiu nation was still the world leader in cultivation science and technology; when the country's dark-skinned leader spoke, the atmosphere in the meeting room instantly sobered.
Guo Ping sorted out his thoughts. He cleared his throat and delivered the statement he had prepared beforehand. "Hello, leaders. Guo Ping had specially altered this part. He didn't mention the energy string, which was Wang Ling's hair, that had acted as a power source… Otherwise, that would definitely cause a sensation.
Of course, Guo Ping himself didn't know that this so-called energy string was Wang Ling's hair… 
This was something "developed" by Wang Ming.
This energy string had even enabled Wang Ming to obtain a year-end bonus from the research institute.
"Divine Dao Star is much further away than we thought. With the assistance of Star Lord of Divine Dao Star, they helped me upgrade my spaceship and used existing black hole technology to help me return to Earth.
"I believe everyone has also seen their diplomatic gift. This is a cosmic gem which can generate energy infinitely; we can use existing equipment to extract the energy from the cosmic gem for the continuation of spirit qi on Earth.

Adam was confused and asked Victor " what is the Bridge of all Reality?" before Victor could reply Brereck came into the room through a pure white door at the far end of the room and spoke with the voice of a man with many years behind him he also walked with a long carved cane
    Brereck said, " the Bridge of all Reality is what connects every reality together." Brereck looked at Victor and said, " you got my message then?" Victor nodded and said gravely " is it bad?" Brereck face turned dark and said, " it far worse then anything thing I could have ever imagined." Adam asked them " what is going on?"

    Brereck turned to Adam and said, " I must tell you why I have summoned you here." He waved his hand and the doors transformed into a giant web that had all of the universe, galaxies, and planets on it. Adam was amazed at how many different universes there were. Brereck said " this is the Web of Reality. It is linked to the Cosmic Hourglass and holds all of the universes in this Reality together." Adam paused then said, " this reality there is more than one reality?"
    Brereck replied, "as you know Zargorwarth plans to use the Universal Alignment to link himself to the Cosmic Hourglass but if he does then this Web of Reality will become unstable and break causing everything in this reality to die, expect for anything that is linked to the Cosmic Hourglass." Adam thought this over and said " oh my god! that monster if he does link himself to the Cosmic Hourglass he will destroy everything in this reality all of history will be rewritten to his will Zargorwarth can become as powerful as he wishes."
    Victor then said, " that is not the worst of it during the Universal Aliment all of the Realities will be aligned causing rips in the space-time vortex opening portals to other  timelines." Adam absorbing all of this said, " so you are saying that doing the Universal Aliment it may be possible that Zargorwarth will cause rips in time and space?!"
  Brereck replied, " more likely that would be the cause." Adam asked Brereck " does Zargorwarth know about any of this?" Brereck replied, " he might not or he might and not care I fear that he will become so corrupt with power that his mind will be lost and rewriting on reality will not feed his lust for power and he will try to rewrite every reality."
    Adam knew that Brereck was right he had seen a possible future where Zargorwarth had killed Adam and everything had gone to hell and back again. Victor said to Brereck " what of Zargorwarth is the Demon Lord opening Under-Hell?" Brereck nodded and said, " yes my son I fear that Zargorwarth may have started an Inter-Multiuniversal  War I fear that it will be the prequel to darker things to come if not stopped."
Adam asked Brereck " what do you mean?" Brereck replied, " just think of this war as the prequel to the End of the World." With that in mind Victor asked Brereck " Father if Zargorwarth were to win what would happen to the Bridge of all Reality? "
  Brereck replied " my son if that were to happen then every reality would collapse and the Bridge of Reality would cease to exist. I urge you not to think about it, I will be fine I have the utmost confidence in you and your friends that Adam will slay Zargorwarth the Demon Lord and return peace to Tylingariea."
    With that Brereck hugged Victor and the Reality Watcher sent them back to the Realm of the Living where Adam woke up next to Kai'la  and Adam and Victor told the rest of the group what they were told in the Bridge of Reality.
    They all agreed that was not good if Zargorwarth did succeed and linked himself to the Cosmic Hourglass not only would he have the power to rewrite reality to his whim but he will have wiped this reality clean causing a reboot making it possible for him to rewrite history how he wishes and making it possible to make him the most powerful creature in the universe Adam did not want to think about any of that he knew that he needed to stop Zargorwarth before he got what he wanted and that was the rest of the Dark Ring Fragments of the Ring of Pure Evil. Mariea transformed into her dragon form and once they were all on her she flew them to the Realm of Halgar so they could reach the Hades Hole first before Zargorwarth the Demon Lord

Hundreds of years ago in the world of Tylingariea the mighty king Enji the ruler of Kal'gorrack has died, but before his death he gave his kingdom to his youngest son Calingar who was told that at some point a great and powerful evil will come to the worlds ten days from when six diffrent figures will arrive to Tylingariea to destory the evil and save the Worlds.

Everyone knew how Lin Feng himself looked like. Not only in the Divine Lands, even the cultivators of the East Sea had seen his image before. As his Avatar of Ares looked exactly like him, there was no difficulty in recognition.
However, the Steel Tree Avatar was different. Not only was its appearance different from Lin Feng's, it rarely ventured out as well.
In the Divine Lands, the Great Void Sect, the Great Zhou Empire, the Great Qin Empire and the Mount Shu Sword Sect were powerful forces with many sources of information. They were able to obtain images of the Lin Feng's Steel Tree Avatar. However, for an independent cultivator like the Freshwater Holy Man who resided in the East Sea, it was extremely difficult for him to do the same.
The Freshwater Holy Man looked straight at Lin Feng and his shape in the sky began to change. He no longer took up a human form but instead, turned into a giant black thunder ball.
The black thunder ball floated in the skies above Mount Liubo like a black sun as it looked down on the island and the sea underneath it.
This was the Freshwater Holy Man's Immortal Soul Avatar. The black thunder ball that he transformed into had large amount lightning darting about it like snakes. However, it made no sound.
Looking at it carefully, it appeared that the snake-like jolts of electricity were completely made up of Black Gui Thunder Water.
"He is nothing more than a Nascent Soul stage cultivator of the Celestial Sect of Wonders!"
The thunder ball vibrated furiously in the sky and instantly, tens of thousands of Black Gui Thunder Water poured downwards. They criss-crossed in mid-air and turned into a huge black web made out of thunder water as they enveloped Lin Feng and company.
Xiao Yan and Zhu Yi furrowed their eyebrows but Lin Feng waved his hands at them and said, "There's some secret on him. Let me handle him, if not he may run away."
As he said that, Lin Feng suddenly blazed with clear light that shot straight into the clouds.
In the clear light, a giant light shadow appeared. It appeared to possess four legs and eight hands and resembled a headless giant. At the same time, it looked like a tree as its bottom was firmly planted in the soil. Eight giant tree branches stretched out into the heavens.
When the light became clearer, it was a giant tree that stretched out into the heavens.
The four thick roots at its bottom embedded themselves into the void, stabilizing the elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Wind.
The eight tree branches that extended into the sky turned respectively into the eight elements of creation, Heaven, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Water, Fire, Mountain and Pond.
Black and white light flashed non-stop on the body of the tree as the leaves on its branches remained unmoving, as if they were made out of steel plates. A powerful aura, brimming with resilience and indestructibility, began to spread out.
This was the cosmic form that Lin Feng's Steel Tree Avatar had formed after entering the Advanced Nascent Soul stage!
The cosmic form that reached out straight into the sky was able to catch the falling thunder web. However, the dark yet explosive Black Gui Thunder Water surrounded the giant tree branch and exploded non-stop. Yet, it did not even scratch a single leaf of the tree, much less hurt it.
Instead, the eight tree branches of the tree began to activate and turn. Then, it tore the thunder water web apart.
The Freshwater Holy Man, who was in the shape of the giant black ball in the sky, trembled.
"What a powerful cosmic form! This... this does not appear to be the power of a Nascent Soul stage cultivator. Even if it is the avatar of an Immortal Soul stage cultivator, few are this powerful!"
While he did not know the origins of his opponent, this did not stop the Freshwater Holy Man from making an accurate prediction. Based on the way Lin Feng stopped his attack, he posed a much bigger threat than either Xiao Yan or Zhu Yi.
Lin Feng did not move directly and hence, he could not see the depths of Lin Feng's power. However, when Lin Feng actually attacked, a sense of foreboding rose in the heart of the Freshwater Holy Man.
While his opponent was only in the Advanced Nascent Soul stage, the Freshwater Holy Man's heart chilled as he looked at Lin Feng. He felt an extreme sense of danger.
Xiao Yan and Zhu Yi were exceptional but the Freshwater Holy Man was still confident about taking them on. However, faced with this bronze-skinned purple robed young man, the Freshwater Holy Man could clearly feel that his opponent was more than capable of threatening his life.
This may be ridiculous as an Advanced Nascent Soul stage cultivator, who did not reveal himself to be in possession of a powerful magic treasure, was able to make an Immortal Soul stage cultivator fear the spectre of death. In the eyes of many in the Grand Celestial World, this was something that completely changed many of their preconceived notions.
However, the Freshwater Holy Man did indeed feel a strong sense of danger. The bronze-skinned purple robed youth made him feel endangered.
This was not because the Freshwater Holy Man had no faith in himself but instead, its exact opposite. After cultivating alone for so many years and finally reaching the Immortal Soul stage, his soul and determination were both strong and sensitive, particularly to extreme threats.
Furthermore, even if the bronze-skinned purple robed young man was not as strong, when Xiao Yan and Zhu Yi joined in, the Freshwater Holy Man may truly be in danger, especially since his spell formations could not work anymore.
Thinking about it here, the Freshwater Holy Man made up his mind and planned to retreat.
The giant black ball that his Immortal Soul turned into became a ray of black light as he sought to escape through the void.
He could forgo the magic treasure. Nothing was more important than his own life. As long as he was not dead, he could always try again.
However, he heard Lin Feng laughing softly and the leaves on his cosmic form began to shake for the first time since it appeared.
The Image of the Eight Trigrams were destroyed and all that was left was a giant whirlpool. Earth, Water, Fire and Wind underneath the tree began to merge and change. A powerful primal aura was being fed into the whirlpool through the body of the tree.
The whirlpool became more and more powerful and it was able to stabilize the void. The Freshwater Holy Man, who had already transformed into a ray of black light and was about to leave, turned back into a black thunder ball.
The giant black thunder ball was trapped by the Eight Trigrams Whirlpool. Struggling, it was still unable to break free.
Not only was it unable to break free, it was slowly being sucked into the center of the whirlpool.
The Freshwater Holy Man could feel waves of panic rising in his heart. He tried to use his mana but all he could see was his progressive slide into a dark canyon.
The sense of danger in his heart earlier was confirmed. All the Freshwater Holy Man could feel right now was an ice-cold sensation in his heart.
The difference between an Immortal Soul stage cultivator and a non-Immortal Soul stage cultivator was extremely wide. They were two entirely different concepts.
In the entire history of the Grand Celestial World, there were only a few examples of a cultivator below the Immortal Soul stage defeating a cultivator in the Immortal Soul stage.
These examples were extremely and could be counted with a single hand. They all appeared to be stuff of legends and every single of them would involve a particular, special circumstance. The conditions under which these examples happened were unique and could not be replicated. They were akin to miracles that could not be duplicated.
In other words, even if the people involved in these tales tried to recreate their miracle, they may still fail.
However, as the Freshwater Holy Man expended all of his powers and was still unable to break free from the suppression by Lin Feng's cosmic form, he could be certain that no matter how many times the two of them fought, he would still lose.
Perhaps if he had not attacked and tried to escape before Lin Feng could reveal his cosmic form, he may have succeeded.
However, thinking about that now made him feel extremely shameful.
On Mount Liubo, while Xiao Yan and Zhu Yi looked on as if it was no big deal, the group of Spiritual Sea Horses looked on in shock.
Before them, a giant tree was able to not only stabilize the void, but it was also able to produce a giant whirlpool that managed to firmly trap the giant black thunder ball.
At the moment, less than half of the black thunder ball was already deep within the whirlpool. The remaining two-third of it struggled furiously outside as it sought to escape
Countless amount of dragon-like Black Gui Thunder Water twisted and turned. Any one of them would be able to kill an ordinary Nascent Soul stage cultivator. However, right now, they appeared to be struggling helplessly and uselessly, as if awaiting their impending death.
An Immortal Soul stage cultivator who had revealed his Immortal Soul Avatar was unable to beat the cosmic form of an Advanced Nascent Soul stage cultivator?
Lin Feng did not use any spell formation or magic treasure. He did not seek help from any object but instead, he used his own cosmic form to battle against the Immortal Soul Avatar of the Freshwater Holy Man, and was successful in suppressing him!
Xiao Zhener, Jieyu, Baiguang and the Kui Cow King too looked, shaken. "It's only an avatar, but it's so powerful?"
Xiao Yan and rest of them exchanged a gaze as smiles appeared on their faces. "Master is master."
"Why are you in such a rush to run away?" Xiao Yan sniggered as he looked at the black thunder ball in the sky. "There are only Nascent Soul stage cultivators here. Regardless, you are an Immortal Soul stage cultivator. Isn't it shameful that you are trying to run away from Nascent Soul stage cultivators?"
At that moment, the Freshwater Holy Man really felt like cursing.

The Freshwater Holy Man was extremely unhappy, just like Lin Feng. He looked at the black thunder ball that was being sucked by the whirlpool and slowly shook his head, saying, "The Steel Tree Avatar is good with defence but its offence is lacking. It is way weaker in that aspect than my actual body."
"If it is my actual body, my cosmic form would have been able to break this Immortal Soul Avatar."
Half of the black thunder ball was already swallowed by the whirlpool. From the thunder ball, one could hear the angry bellow of the Freshwater Holy Man. In the next instant, the thunder ball trembled violently.
"Gui Water Heavenly Thunder!"
The thunder ball compressed and then expanded rapidly in all four directions. The Freshwater Holy Man was about to attack with all his might
However, Lin Feng was not fearful at all. The whirlpool swirled non-stop and eroded the mana of the Freshwater Holy Man. Waves after waves of Image of the Eight Trigrams congregated together, causing the whirlpool to change. It produced an extraordinary power as it appeared to be forming into a perfect, small world.
The Freshwater Holy Man noticed that he could not escape and hence, he bit down and ray of white light shot out from his black thunder ball.
In the white light, there was a talisman. It burned rapidly and caused the white light to break through the void that was stabilized by Lin Feng's cosmic form. It then turned into a giant path leading straight into the heavens and then, pierced through the many layers of space. It resembled a special path.
Looking at the white light pathway, Lin Feng's eyes shone.


Lin Feng travelled through worlds and even obtained an overpowered system, but he still faces a pressure as huge as a mountain.

“Your name is Zhu Yi? The son of a marquis but you’re being suppressed by your father? Your mother was a saint but she was assassinated? Come come come, follow your master and we’ll let your dad know the meaning how problems can be solved with your fists...no, with reasoning!"

Bright light hit my eyes… It seemed like I had been sitting at home just recently and trying to translate an article that I had been working on. I had gone to sleep, and the next thing I knew, I was standing in the middle of a street! More precisely, I had found myself in the middle of the very street in which I had worked five years ago when I was a student... What was that squeal? It sounded like tires grinding against the asphalt. Light, screeching tires… Is that a car coming directly toward me?

I jumped back, but the car still hit me, although not as badly as it would've had I stayed in place. I managed to remain standing. I wondered why that psycho had been driving so fast. Was he not paying attention to pedestrians at all? Wait, it could've been my fault. I must've zoned out and somehow ended up in the middle of the intersection.

"Are you a complete idiot?" asked a voice with an unfamiliar accent. The door of a car with tinted windows, the make of which was unfamiliar to me, opened. Perhaps its driver wasn't a local. Not that that would excuse my behavior.

"I'm sorry." I could forgive him calling me an idiot, but I would defend myself if he didn't calm down, or if he started a fight. I really wanted to take a swing at somebody, and maybe even get hit myself. It would hurt, but that would pass. It wasn't like I was made of glass. That would, at least for a while, break up this monotony that had already started to plague me.

"Oh, he's sorry! You humans are such strange beings!" At that moment, I finally got my shit together and noticed the taxi sign on the roof of the car. "What about the battery deterioration caused by the sharp maneuvers I had to make? And my nerves! And my wife who's waiting at home, worried about me?" shouted the taxi driver.

I listened to the list of troubles that had befallen him, but it all seemed so unimportant to me. What if this wasn't real? Maybe I was just dreaming? How else could I explain the fact that there was a 6'6, blue-skinned man standing in front of me, whose wide nostrils made his nose look more like a pig's snout than an ordinary human nose?

"Ten credits and we can part ways civilly." The unusual taxi driver unexpectedly finished his speech and stared at me.

"I don't understand..." I raised my hands and rubbed my eyes, hoping that this would help me wake up.

"If you don't want to do this the easy way, fine, I'll act according to law."

He pulled out his phone, which looked rather weird in his hands, and made a call. After just a couple of minutes, two patrol police cars appeared at the scene. Fortunately, ordinary-looking humans came out of them. For some reason, they, unlike me, didn't find what was happening strange at all. What's going on here?

"I've uploaded the information about the incident and my certified statement to the city server," my blue-skinned hallucination greeted them. Maybe I'm just imagining this whole thing?

"Then we'll take the offender with us. The compensation fee will be sent to you after we've analyzed the situation, within the regulated time limits." Even if I was imagining things, it would be better if I didn't show it. I really didn't need any additional troubles; I was already in over my head.

In the meantime, the conversations ended. I was carefully placed in the backseat of the police car, and we set off. Now, having come to my senses a little, I realized that the car wasn't exactly flying, but sort of floating. But it moved quickly, smoothly, and seemed very real. No, something weird must be going on around me. I have to try to figure it out. I should be casual about it, there's no need to openly show my interest or ignorance.

"And who was that?" I said as calmly as I could.

"The blue-skinned one?"

So, my question wasn't an unusual one.

I nodded in response. The policemen seemed rather relaxed now. They couldn't be seen from the outside. Maybe they would tell me something useful.

"He's an ordinary Velly migrant. They send them to the new worlds to maintain the infrastructure. The salary is mediocre, but, this has its benefits. Every now and again a psycho like you appears."

"A Velly migrant?"

"Are you kidding? Or are you high?" The policeman inspected me with some kind of device, and sighed in disappointment.

It looked like I wasn't high, which was good. However, the fact that everything that was going on was normal for everyone except me was really bad. But there was nothing I could do about it. Any additional questions would only bring me more unnecessary trouble.

"Sam, we've received information about our offender."

"What does it say? Have the charges been confirmed?"

"Yes, he's been sentenced. His reputation has been lowered by two, and there's a twenty-credit fine."

I was listening and taking mental notes. I would definitely find out what had happened, but for now, I had to make sure not to get into even more trouble. So, everyone here had some kind of reputation which was, judging by the policeman's voice, much more important than the credits. By the way, they charged me double. The taxi driver had requested only ten credits. Had he been trying to do me a favor?

"Well, did he have enough money on his account to pay the fine?" The policemen continued their conversation without paying any attention to me, and I must admit that I was a little taken aback by them talking about a detainee like that while they were present.

"Yes. What's more, a corporate lawyer from RosEnergy took his case. Not only do we have to let him go, but we also have to take him home."

"Geez, and why does this wimp deserve such an honor? RosEnergy lawyers don't work with just anyone."

RosEnergy seemed to be a state-owned energy corporation. And I was inclined to agree with them — why would I be granted such an honor?

"According to our documents, he's a level two battery, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He's a valuable employee; the company is making sure that he doesn't miss a workday."

"Wow!" Both policemen looked at me through the rearview mirror, and I could see respect in their eyes.

A battery? Level two? I really wanted to ask them a couple of questions but I stayed silent, knowing that that wouldn't end well. They can take me home in silence, and then I'll deal with everything else myself. I hoped that the Internet was still a thing in this world of flying machines and blue-skinned people. I believed that I didn't need anything else except the web.

Having moved closer to the window, I began to look around, paying attention to all sorts of things that were unusual to me; there was an obscene amount of them. A group of blue-skinned people was walking down the street, talking about something. If it weren't for the color of their skin and the pig snouts, they wouldn't be distinguishable from ordinary teenagers. I saw one more leaving a night club. Unlike the taxi driver and that clique, he had a perfectly normal nose; small and neat. He looked somehow better off than they did. He had a suit, a shiny watch on his wrist, and an expensive car that was obviously waiting for him.

Thinking about the difference between them, I continued looking out the window. Advertising posters caught my attention this time. One of them was of a man, smiling, dipping his hands into a container full of yellow liquid.

There was another unusual one depicting a spaceship that was flying away from the familiar blue ball. It had a slogan written in gorgeous golden letters at the bottom.

What was happening? Were the blue-skinned ones aliens? But how could I have missed their appearance?

I spotted another poster.

The last poster had no pictures. Its simple, white background attracted my attention for two reasons: first, the name of the sponsor, RosEnergy, was written at the bottom, and according to the policemen, that was where I worked; the second being the entire battery and energy thing. They called me a level two battery, which meant that there was a level one battery, which also meant there was some sort of a ranking system for it. When did I become a battery?

"We're here." I had almost missed when we stopped and they politely opened the door for me, suggesting that I walk to my apartment.

Fortunately, my house hadn't changed. I quickly said goodbye to my escort and hurried to my studio apartment. Where are my keys? Having found them, I quickly opened and closed the door.

I found myself in an unfamiliar place. The wallpaper and the stove were the same, and the coat rack was on the left, next to the mirror, as always, but everything else… A huge, 100-inch screen was hanging in front of something that was either a futuristic-looking bed or a dentist's chair. Strange containers with a liquid similar to that from the poster stood on my table. What's that projection display with a clock right above my old gas oven…? Why is it showing July? I remember it being September! And the year? Next year? What's happening?

I could guess what I would discover, but I rushed to my laptop nonetheless and opened a couple of websites to check the date's accuracy. The numbers that were on the kitchen clock were displayed everywhere. I didn't know how it had happened, but I had managed to forget the entire previous year.

I spent the next hour sitting and reading, going through article archives on a couple of websites. I was filling in gaps in my knowledge about what had happened during the ten months that were missing from my memory. There were both short and long reports on how Earth was conquered in one day, how we were given new technologies, and how those who were against it were punished. One after another, the old professions died out, and the majority of the population became batteries. This was one of the technologies that the Velly, the blue-faced aliens, had given us in hopes of uniting us with their civilization. As it turned out, a mysterious source in the center of the galaxy emitted strange types of cosmic energy and almost every living creature could collect it and release it. And its power was quite decent.

A level one battery could produce as much energy as a nuclear reactor after just a week of training. Level two batteries, that is, those who spent a lot of time training and were able to, like me, increase the efficiency of their body, could produce ten times more. Levels three and four were admitted to work on spaceships. They powered the anti-ship cannons, and even the main-caliber ones. Level five could power the main reactors of any civil vessel as well as the planetary shields. Levels six and up were military psychics who served the Velly army, suppressed rebellions, and urged planets to accept compromises.

Judging by the booklets scattered around me about various ships and star systems, I still wanted to go into space. I wanted to increase my battery level and then fly away to explore the universe. For that reason, I had training containers full of yellow liquid that should aid me in discharging energy. Why not? There are new worlds, new races, and new experiences. And even though a big chunk of my memory is missing, this idea sounds great.

Just as I had convinced myself that everything would be fine — well, if not now, then in the near future for sure — a mechanical voice pierced my ears, followed by the deafening sound of a distant explosion. Stay away from the windows? Hell no! Without losing any time, I got closer and observed the nearest building, over which black smoke had already begun to rise. What's going on there?

A plane, or something similar to it, flew over the building, and three figures in black space suits jumped out onto the roof. Are they a part of Special Forces or what? They had no parachutes, nor any other special weapons; they just jumped onto the roof, rising from a cloud of soaring dust. However, there weren't three of them, but four. Or was the fourth guy the reason why they came there? Damn, they're too far, I can't see anything. I tried to use my phone. I turned on the camera and pointed it at my target. That's better… Huh, it has focus, zoom, and even slow-motion. A couple of years ago, even the military couldn't dream of such technology, and today I had such a thing in my pocket.

In the meantime, the Special Forces trio and the stranger attacked each other. Shots were fired, followed by several explosions; I couldn't make heads or tails of it. And then the whole building began to shake, threatening to collapse, but it remained standing, held in place by a huge energy field. I couldn't resist rewinding the video and then watching it in slow motion. The trio was shooting at the fourth guy, who was repelling the bullets with his bare hands. And he wasn't a blue-skinned — I wouldn't be surprised if they were really capable of doing that — but an ordinary man. A pale-blue ray came out of his hands and, having gone through the defense of one of the guys, blew him up from the inside. The other two immediately wrapped themselves up in energy shields, but the man had no intention of attacking them. Instead, he threw some kind of a ball behind his back, and then caught a glider that rushed past the roof and flew away. And then came the explosion. The ball must've been a bomb designed to divert attention. And it worked. And earlier, when I was reading about those high-level batteries, potential troubles seemed far, far away. Only now did I realize how close the danger really was.

Bright light hit my eyes… It seems that only recently I've been sitting home and trying to translate an article that I was working on. I went to sleep and the next thing I knew, I was standing in the middle of a street! More precisely, I found myself in the middle of the very street in which I worked five years ago when I was a student... What was that squeal? It sounded like tires grinding against the asphalt. Light, screeching tires… Is that a car coming directly at me? 
I jumped back, but the car still hit me, although not as badly as it would've had I stayed in place. I managed to remain standing. I wondered why that psycho was driving so fast. Was he not paying attention to pedestrians at all? Wait, it could've been my fault. I must've zoned out and somehow ended up in the middle of the intersection.
"Are you a complete idiot?" spoke a voice in an unfamiliar accent. The door of a car with tinted windows, the mark of which was unfamiliar to me, opened. Perhaps its driver wasn't a local. Not that that would excuse my behavior. 
"I'm sorry." I could forgive them calling me an idiot, but I would defend myself if they didn't calm down or start a fight. I really wanted to take a swing at somebody, and maybe even get hit myself. It would hurt, but it would pass. It wasn't like I was made of glass. That would, at least for a while, break this monotony that had already started to plague me. 
"Oh, he's sorry! You people are such strange beings!" At that moment I finally got my shit together and noticed the taxi sign on the roof of the car. "And what about battery deterioration due to sharp maneuvers? And my nerves?! And my wife who's waiting at home, worried about me?!" shouted the taxi driver.
I listened to the list of troubles that had befallen him; it all seemed to fly past me. What if this wasn't real? Maybe I was just dreaming? How else could I explain that there was a 6.5-feet-tall, blue-skinned man standing in front of me, whose wide nostrils made his nose look more like a pig's snout than an ordinary human nose? 
"Ten credits and we can part ways." The unusual taxi driver unexpectedly finished his speech and stared at me.
"I don't understand..." I raised my hands and rubbed my eyes, hoping that that would help me wake up. 
"If you don't want to do this nicely, fine, I will act according to law."
He pulled out his phone, which looked rather weird in his hands, and made a call. After just a couple of minutes, two patrol police cars appeared at the scene. Fortunately, ordinary-looking humans came out of them. For some reason, they, unlike me, didn't find what was happening strange at all. What's going on here?
"I've uploaded the information about the incident and my certified statement to the city server," my blue-skinned hallucination greeted them. Maybe I'm just imagining this whole thing?
"Then we'll take the offender with us. The compensation fee will be sent to you after we've analyzed the situation, within the regulated time limits." Even if I was imagining things, it would be better if I didn't show it. I really didn't need any additional troubles; I was already in over my head. 
In the meantime, the conversations ended. I was carefully placed in the backseat of the police car, and we set off. Now, having come to my senses a little, I realized that the car wasn't exactly flying, but sort of floating. But it moved quickly, smoothly and seemed very real. No, something weird must be going on around me. I have to try to figure it out. I should be casual about it, there's no need to openly show my interest or ignorance. 
"And who was that?" I said as calmly as I could.
"The blue-skinned one?"
So, my question wasn't an unusual one.
I nodded in response. The policemen seemed rather relaxed now. They couldn't be seen from the outside. Maybe they would tell me something useful. 
"He's an ordinary Velly migrant. They send them to the new worlds to maintain the infrastructure. The salary is mediocre, but, this has its benefits. Every now and again a psycho like you appears."
"A Velly migrant?"
"Are you kidding? Or are you high?" The policeman inspected me with some kind of device, and sighed in disappointment.
It looked like I wasn't high, which was good. However, the fact that everything that was going on was normal for everyone except me was really bad. But there was nothing I could do about it. Any additional questions would only bring me more unnecessary trouble.
"Sam, we've received information about our offender."
"What does it say? Have the charges been confirmed?"
"Yes, he's been sentenced. His reputation has been lowered by two, and there's a twenty credits fine."
I was listening and taking mental notes. I would definitely find out what had happened, but for now, I had to make sure not to get into even more trouble. So, everyone here had some kind of reputation which was, judging by the policeman's voice, much more important than the credits. By the way, they charged double. The taxi driver had requested ten credits. Was he trying to do me a favor?
"Well, did he have enough money on his account to pay the fine?" The policemen continued their conversation without paying any attention to me, and I must admit that I was a little taken aback by them talking about a detainee like that while they were present. 
"Yes. What's more, a corporate lawyer from RosEnergy took his case. Not only do we have to let him go, but we also have to take him home."
"Geez, and why does this wimp deserve such an honor? RosEnergy lawyers don't work with just anyone."
RosEnergy seemed to be a state-owned energy corporation. And I was inclined to agree with them — why would I be granted such an honor?
"According to our documents, he's a level two battery, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He's a valuable employee; the company is making sure that he doesn't miss a workday."
"Wow!" Both policemen looked at me through the rearview mirror, and I could see respect in their eyes.
A battery? Level two? I really wanted to ask them a couple of questions but I stayed silent, knowing that that wouldn't end well. They can take me home in silence, and then I will deal with everything else myself. I hoped that the internet was still a thing in this world of flying machines and the blue-skinned people. I believed that I didn't need anything else except the web. 
Having moved closer to the window, I began to look around, paying attention to all sorts of things that were unusual to me; there was an obscene amount of them. A group of blue-skinned people was walking down the street, talking about something. If it weren't for the color of their skin and the pig snouts, they wouldn't be distinguishable from ordinary teenagers. I saw one more leaving a night club. Unlike the taxi driver and that clique, he had a perfectly normal nose; small and neat. He looked somehow better off than them. He had a suit, a shiny watch on his wrist, and an expensive car that was obviously waiting for him.
Thinking about the difference between them, I continued looking out the window. Advertising posters caught my attention this time. One of them was of a man, smiling, dipping his hands into a container full of yellow liquid. 
Being a battery isn't a shame! Discharge the energy for the good of your home planet!
There was another unusual one depicting a spaceship that was flying away from the familiar blue ball. It had a slogan written in gorgeous golden letters at the bottom. 
The Velly Empire is grateful to Earth for its contribution to the energy supply.
What was happening? Were the blue-skinned ones aliens? But how could I have missed their appearance?
I spotted another poster.
Ninety-three percent of the inhabitants of the empire can accumulate energy. Don't stop, develop your skills and become the pride of Velly!
The last poster had no pictures. Its simple, white background attracted my attention for two reasons: first, the name of the sponsor, RosEnergy, was written at the bottom, and according to the policemen, that was where I worked; the second being the entire battery and energy thing. They called me a level two battery, which meant that there was a level one battery, which also meant there was some sort of a ranking system for it. When did I become a battery?
"We're here." I had almost missed when we stopped and they politely opened the door for me, suggesting that I walk to my apartment. 
Fortunately, my house hadn't changed. I quickly said goodbye to my escort and hurried to my studio apartment. Where are my keys? Having found them, I quickly opened and closed the door.
I found myself in an unfamiliar place. The wallpaper and the stove were the same, and the coat rack was on the left, next to the mirror, as always, but everything else… A huge, 100-inch screen was hanging in front of something that was either a futuristic-looking bed or a dentist's chair. Strange containers with a liquid similar to that from the poster stood on my table. What's that projection display with a clock right above my old gas oven…? Why is it showing July? I remember it being September! And the year? Next year? What's happening?
I could guess what I would discover, but I rushed to my laptop nonetheless and opened a couple of websites to check the date's accuracy. The numbers that were on the kitchen clock were displayed everywhere. I didn't know how it had happened, but I had managed to forget everything that happened the previous year. 
I spent the next hour sitting and reading, going through article archives on a couple of websites. I was filling in gaps in my knowledge about what had happened during the ten months that were missing from my memory. There were both short and long reports on how Earth was conquered in one day, how we were given new technologies and how those who were against it were punished. One after another, the old professions died out, and the majority of the population became batteries. This was one of the technologies that the Velly, the blue-faced aliens, had given us in hopes of uniting us with their civilization. As it turned out, a mysterious source in the center of the galaxy emitted strange types of cosmic energy and almost every living creature could collect it and release it. And its power was quite decent. 
A level one battery could produce as much energy as a nuclear reactor after just a week of training. Level two batteries, that is, those who spent a lot of time training and were able to, like me, increase the efficiency of their body, could produce ten times more. Levels three and four were admitted to work on spaceships. They powered the anti-ship cannons, and even the main caliber ones. Level five ones could power the main reactors of any civil vessel as well as the planetary shields. Levels six and up were military psychics who served the Velly army, suppressed rebellions, and urged planets to revolt. 
Judging by the booklets scattered around me about various ships and star systems, I still wanted to go into space. I wanted to increase my battery level and then fly away to explore the universe. For that reason, I had training containers full of yellow liquid that should aid me in discharging energy. Why not? There are new worlds, new races, and new experiences. And even though a big chunk of my memory is missing, this idea sounds great.

Just as I had convinced myself that everything would be fine — well, if not now, then in the near future for sure — a mechanical voice pierced my ears, followed by the deafening sound of a distant explosion. Stay away from the windows? Hell no! Without losing any time, I got closer and observed the nearest building, over which black smoke had already begun to rise. What's going on there?
A plane, or something similar to it, flew over the building, and three figures in black space suits jumped out onto the roof. Are they a part of Special Forces or what? They had no parachutes, nor any other special weapons; they just jumped onto the roof, rising from a cloud of souring dust. However, there weren't three of them, but four. Or was the fourth guy the reason why they came there? Damn, they're too far, I can't see anything. I tried to use my phone. I turned on the camera and pointed it at my target. That's better… Huh, it has focus, zoom, and even slow-motion. A couple of years ago, even the military couldn't dream of such technology, and today I had such a thing on my pocket.
In the meantime, the Special Forces trio and the stranger attacked each other. Shots were fired, followed by several explosions; I couldn't make heads or tails of it. And then the whole building began to shake, threatening to collapse, but it remained standing, held in place by a huge energy field. Without holding back, I rewound the video and watched it in slow motion. The trio was shooting at the fourth guy, who was repelling the bullets with his bare hands. And he wasn't a blue-skinned — I wouldn't be surprised if they were really capable of doing that — but an ordinary man. A pale-blue ray came out of his hands and, having gone through the defense of one of the guys, exploded him from the inside. The other two immediately wrapped themselves up in energy shields, but the man had no intention of attacking them. Instead, he threw some kind of a ball behind his back, and then caught a glider that rushed past the roof and flew away. And then came the explosion. The ball must've been a bomb designed to divert attention. And it worked.
