Hal ini sangat relate banget dalam dunia kepenulisan terutama kamu yang writer atau aktif menjadi blogger saat ini. Atau yang saat ini sedang mengerjakan skripsi. Ternyata situasi dimana kita merasa buntu ini namanya writer's block lho. Hampir semua orang pernah ngerasain hal ini lho.
Mungkin kalian pernah dengar atau nggak asing dengan writer's block. Ada yang menganggap bahwa writer's block itu mitos belaka. Atau ada yang menyepelekan istilah ini juga. Padahal sebenarnya momok ini merupakan hal yang sangat wajar melanda saat menulis dan jangan remehkan juga. Kita perlu menyiasati hal ini untuk mengatasinya.
Tapi buat yang belum paham apa itu writer's block akan dijelaskan di artikel ini ya. Dan di akhir akan dibahas juga tips mengatasi writer's block yang jitu untukmu nih yang writer dan blogger.

Apa itu Writer's Block?
Writer's block adalah keadaan tidak dapat melanjutkan kegiatan menulis atau ketidakmampuan untuk mulai menulis sesuatu yang baru. Jadi, nggak hanya saat kamu nulis saja ngerasa stuck tetapi juga saat memulai yang baru juga. Writer's block juga dikenal sebagai penghambat psikologis yang mencegah penulis untuk menyelesaikan tulisannya.
Buat kamu yang kerja di dunia kepenulisan seperti penulis, hal ini pasti sangat mengganggu dan menghambat produktivitas sehari-hari. Apalagi buat kamu yang blogger yang mempunyai timeline atau konten yang harus di publish secepatnya tetapi kamu ngerasa terpaku. Pasti bikin frustasi banget kalau sudah dekat dengan deadline yang akan membuatmu stress.
Jangan takut, writer's block itu hanya situasi sementara saja kok. Sebagian besar penulis akan mengalami blok ini dari waktu ke waktu dalam waktu yang sebentar atau temporer.
Lalu, kalian tahu nggak sih apa saja penyebab writer's block?
Penyebab Writer's Block
Ternyata writer's block ini sudah ada sejak lama lho. Pada tahun 1970-an, psikolog klinis bernama Jerome Singer dan Michael Barrios memutuskan untuk mencari tahu hal ini. Ternyata ada empat penyebab writer's block menurut mereka yaitu:
Mengkritik diri sendiri dengan sangat keras (self critics)Takut akan perbandingan dengan penulis lainKurangnya motivasi eksternal, seperti perhatian dan pujianKurangnya motivasi internal, seperti keinginan untuk menceritakan kisah seseorang
Dengan kata lain, sebenarnya writer's block ini berasal dari perasaan tidak puas dengan tulisan kita yang datang dari dalam diri kita sendiri lho. Memang sih, lebih enak mengerjakan sesuatu bila perasaan dari diri kita itu sedang senang atau up.
Selain itu, ada beberapa penyebab lain writer's block yaitu:
Perfeksionisme
Salah satu yang menjadi penghambat dalam kepenulisan adalah: perfectionist. Mungkin sebagian dari kalian akan mengelak dan mengatakan kalau kalian bukan orang yang sangat menuntut kesempurnaan tetapi sebenarnya kita orang yang seperti itu, secara nggak sadar pastinya.
Contoh kasusnya, kamu menulis tetapi sebentar-sebentar kamu mengedit lagi tulisanmu. Atau kamu menekan tombol backspace di laptop kamu berulang kali. Pokoknya kamu ingin semua yang ada di kepala itu sempurna dan tepat sebelum menulis semuanya di atas kertas atau menyentuh keyboard.
Kalau kamu seperti ini terus, akuilah kalau kamu adalah perfectionist. Dan sikap sikap seperti ini yang membuatmu nggak memulai apapun di awal.
Tekanan
Jika saat ini kamu menggeluti dunia kepenulisan karena tuntutan pekerjaan, bisa jadi writer's block yang kamu alami adalah tekanan pekerjaanmu. Nggak hanya pekerjaan saja tetapi bisa juga tekanan dari kesuksesan sebelumnya atau kesuksesan penulis lainnya.
Misalnya saja kamu sukses menerbitkan buku atau membuat konten blog yang viral dengan engagement yang tinggi. Otomatis kamu ingin melakukan hal yang sama seperti yang sebelumnya. Nah, ini bisa memicu kamu dan menjadi pressure untukmu sehingga menghambat karyamu karena kamu ingin karyamu sukses seperti yang sebelumnya. Atau kamu merasa minder karena tulisan kamu kurang bagus ketimbang penulis favoritmu yang sudah sukses. Hal ini bisa menjadi tekanan untukmu lho and it's not good for you.
Takut akan penolakan
Hayo, pasti kalian sering mengalami hal ini? Kita merasa cemas bila draft kita nggak di approve dengan atasan dan takut kalau tulisan kita akan direject. Atau kita sering berpikir "apakah orang-orang bakalan suka ya tulisan kita?", "apakah artikel kita informatif nggak ya?" dan pikiran lainnya saat hendak menerbitkan konten kita di blog kita.
Tapi, ketika tulisan kita ditolak itu bukan berarti tulisan kita jelek atau gagal kok, friends. Bisa saja tulisan kita nggak cocok dengan kriteria atasan, client atau pembaca kita. Pikirkanlah bahwa setiap audiens itu berbeda dan lumrah bila ada yang suka dan tidak suka.
Mungkin juga ada beberapa part yang perlu kita perdalam lagi. Bila pembaca memberikan kita saran atau kritik, coba kita telaah kembali dan revisi tulisan kita ya. Jangan takut terlebih dahulu, just write what's on your mind and don't be overthinker friends.
Mudah Terdistraksi
Kalau kamu orangnya mudah sekali merasa terganggu atau terkena distraksi, kamu kemungkinan besar bisa mengalami block ini. Sebentar terganggu soal kerjaan, lalu beberapa menit lagi terdistraksi dengan hal yang lain. Akibatnya, kamu merasa kewalahan dan membuat tulisanmu akan terhambat untuk diselesaikan.
Kelelahan
Kadang kita merasa semangat untuk menulis apalagi kalau saat ide muncul di otak, terasa begitu menggebu-gebu. Saking semangatnya nulis bisa jadi kamu lupa waktu dan membuatmu kelelahan. Kalau sudah kelelahan, otak akan jadi susah untuk berpikir lancar dan jari pun juga capek untuk digerakan.

Ada beberapa cara yang bisa kamu lakukan untuk mengatasi penghambat psikologis dalam dunia tulis menulis ini. Berikut ini ada beberapa tips yang bisa kamu lakukan untuk mengatasi writer's block :
Rutin Menulis
Kebanyakan dari kita mungkin menulis saat kita dapat ide atau "merasa kreatif". Kalau nggak ada ide, kita nggak tulis. Padahal sebaiknya kita rutin menulis, lebih baik kalau ada jadwal menulis lho. Atur jadwal kamu misalnya setiap akhir pekan atau setiap malam sebelum tidur.
Melakukan Freewriting
Kalau kamu tidak menemukan apa yang ingin ditulis, coba deh kamu coret-coret kertas kamu atau ketik apa saja di keyboard kamu. Tuangkan apa yang kamu pikirkan atau yang kamu lihat di sekelilingmu deh. Jangan terpaku pada aturan atau struktur, just write anything. Karena hal ini bisa memakan waktu hingga berjam-jam lho dan bisa membuatmu stuck untuk melanjutkannya lagi. Siapa tahu dengan melakukan ini kamu bisa mendapatkan ide baru untuk tulisanmu.
Tulis Semuanya, Edit Belakangan
Seperti yang dijelaskan di point perfeksionisme, lebih baik kamu tuang semuanya dulu. Barulah kamu mengedit bila ada yang salah, typo atau mengganti kata-kata atau frasa yang lebih indah.
Buat Outline
Biasanya kamu bingung untuk menulis hal selanjutnya. Nah, kamu bisa membuat outline atau draft terlebih dahulu. Outline ini menjadi patokan garis besar kamu untuk menulis. Kamu bisa menulis susunan sub topik dari ide yang kamu pikirkan. Hal ini menghindari writer's block yang jauh lebih besar di tulisan selanjutnya.
Gerakin Tubuh
Doing some move can help you! Kamu mungkin terlalu lelah duduk berjam-jam saat menulis. Coba deh kamu melakukan stretching selama 10 menit. Atau kamu bisa melakukan jalan kecil sebentar. Bisa juga kamu menari, yoga atau melakukan kegiatan kecil di rumah. Dengan menggerakan tubuh, pikiranmu akan menjadi rileks. Kalau sudah rileks, kamu bisa berpikir lebih imajinatif dan semangat untuk melanjutkan tulisanmu.
Singkirkan Gangguan
Apa yang mudah membuatmu terdistraksi? Pastinya handphone menjadi salah satu yang membuat kamu cepat terdistraksi. Sebaiknya matikan dulu handphone kamu atau pasang mode do not disturb sejenak. Bila perlu, off dulu dari internet untuk fokus menulis supaya kamu nggak tergiur membuka tab-tab yang nggak penting.
Jika perlu, kamu juga bisa minta tolong kepada anggota keluargamu untuk tidak mengganggumu selama beberapa jam saat kamu menulis. Karena menulis itu butuh fokus yang besar dan terkadang sulit untuk kita melanjutkan tulisan bila kita sudah terdistraksi. Pokoknya, singkirkan dahulu hal-hal yang membuat kamu terganggu ya.
Menulis di Pagi Hari atau Sebelum Tidur
Dua waktu ini bisa menjadi tips buat kamu lho. Ketika kita bangun, otak kita merasa lebih fresh sehingga tak jarang sering ada ide cemerlang untuk menulis. Biasanya menulis di pagi hari lebih lancar ketimbang saat siang hari karena energi tidak full charge seperti pagi hari.
Atau sebelum tidur biasanya kita suka berpikir atau berimajinasi. Nah ini bisa dimanfaatkan untuk menulis. Siapkan waktu sekitar 30 menit untuk menulis di malam hari. Ingat ya, jangan sampai begadang dan membuatmu kecapekan.
Konsumsi Kafein Bila Perlu
Ada beberapa orang yang harus minum kopi atau teh di pagi hari untuk boost their day and stay energize. Tapi ada juga yang enggan buat minum ini. Buat Workspace Yang Nyaman
Cari suasana baru untuk menulis bisa jadi cara ampuh untuk mengatasi writer's block lho. Misalnya kalau saat ini kamu sering menulis di kamar, kamu bisa coba ke tempat lain untuk menulis. Atau kamu bisa melakukan make over ruangan tempat kamu menulis supaya lebih nyaman.
Mendaur Ulang Tulisan Lama
Coba kamu lihat kembali folder tulisan lama kamu. Kalau kamu menemukan ada tulisan menarik yang bersifat timeless dan bisa kamu update dengan keadaan terkini, kamu bisa recycle dan kembangkan tulisan lamamu.
Melakukan Aktivitas Selain Menulis
Nggak baik melakukan sesuatu yang berlebihan, termasuk menulis. Ujungnya, kamu bisa jadi jenuh dan suntuk untuk menulis. Maka dari itu, kamu bisa melakukan aktivitas lain selain menulis untuk refreshing pikiran kamu.
Kamu bisa memasak, menonton series favoritmu, membaca buku-buku, menonton film di bioskop, jogging, pergi ke pameran atau chillin di cafe kesukaanmu. Bebaskan diri kamu dari menulis untuk sejenak ya. Eits, tapi selama PSBB ini jangan keluar rumah dulu ya. Kamu bisa melakukan aktivitas lain seperti menggambar, melakukan handcrafting, dan lainnya ya di rumah.
Rehat Sejenak
Percuma saja otakmu dipaksa menulis kalau kamu merasa lelah. Hasil tulisanmu nggak memuaskanmu nanti. Ini tandanya kamu perlu istirahat sebentar.
Ambil waktu 1-2 jam untuk tidur siang untuk refresh pikiranmu. Atau mungkin take a shower dulu. Biarkan kepalamu dibilas dengan air yang mengalir. Ini bisa membuat kamu segar dan rileks. Malah kebanyakan orang sering dapat ide menarik pas lagi di kamar mandi lho.
Renungkan dan Tanya Ke Dirimu
Sebenarnya, writer's block ini bisa berasal dari masalah yang lebih dalam daripada "kurang inspirasi" saja lho. Jadi, coba kita renungkan dulu kenapa kamu mengalami writer's block. Tanyakan kepada dirimu sendiri atau bisa juga coba tanya beberapa hal ini dan resapi ya.
"Apakah kamu merasa tekanan untuk berhasil?"
"Apakah kamu lupa tujuan awal kamu menulis?"
"Apakah kamu seperti ini karena merasa lelah saja?"
"Apakah kamu kurang percaya diri untuk menulis konten atau tidak percaya diri tulisanmu sesukses yang dulu?"
"Apakah kamu takut bersaing dengan penulis lain yang lebih baik?"
Coba resapi pertanyaan-pertanyaan diatas dan renungkan. Pasti kamu akan menemukan solusi di setiap permasalahan yang kamu alami. Kamu akan bisa memperbaiki itu nantinya.
Ingat, yang kamu tulis adalah sebuah pencapaian yang luar biasa lho. Kamu menaruh seluruh pikiran, ide, energi dan perasaan untuk setiap tulisan yang dibuat. Dan pengakuan dari orang lain bukanlah segalanya. Bila kamu mendapatkan feedback yang positif, itu adalah reward yang kamu dapatkan dari jerih payahmu selama ini.
Intinya writer's block itu lumrah terjadi kok terhadap kita yang sehari-hari menekuni dunia tulis menulis. Kamu hanya perlu menerima hal itu dan bisa melewatinya kok.

EPILOGUE 

 

 

Ashikaga Taro was waiting sitting on a wooden bench for his turn to talk to his boss and teacher Hayashida. In his mind he recreated again and again the episode in Sao Paulo, making a harsh self-criticism about what had happened and thinking what he might have done differently so that did not end with Higa´s death. It was a Yakuza rule to worry about the lives and safety of other members, particularly those hierarchically dependent on one. He concluded that having frisked Xie Fu at the beginning of their meeting its end would have been different, and was ready to declare this to Hayashida. They had not done so as not to prematurely alert him of their intentions, but it had clearly been a fatal error. 

Finally the heavy oak doors opened and a man came who with a nod let Ashikaga know that the teacher was expecting him. 

With a contrite heart Ashikaga entered the spacious room he knew so well. Hayashida gestured indicating him to come forward. Ashikaga bowed and approached. A long silence lasted several minutes. The subordinate resolved releasing his tongue and making his mea culpa. 

“Master, I have to confess ...” 

Hayashida placed the index finger of his right hand before his mouth demanding silence, and finally said.

Dear reader 

 I appreciate your interest in reading these few words in which I talk about my work. It is a good habit to try to understand what led an author to write a particular book, because the motivations vary from author to author and from book to book. 

 As a sign of respect for the reader, in all my books I make a thorough previous investigation of the facts the work refers to, particularly considering that many of them take place in places sometimes very far apart from each other and also in various historical periods; my books often travel indeed through dilated stretches in time and space. 

 These searches are based on my memory, in the large family library and the huge quarry of facts and data existing in the Internet. In the global network everyone can search but not all find the same ... fortunately, since this results in a huge variability and diversity. 

 The plot of course comes from the imagination and fantasy. This is critical for me and I confess that I would never write a book that I wouldn´t like to read; my interests as a writer and as a reader coincide to a large degree. 

 My works often take place in exotic locations and refer sometimes to surprising and even paradoxical facts, but never enter the realm of the fantastic and incredible. Moreover, the most bizarre events are often true. 

 

 

 
 About the Author 

 

Cedric Daurio is the pen name an Argentine novelist uses for certain types of narrative, in general thrillers with esoteric or paranormal content. The author has lived in New York for years and now resides in Buenos Aires, his hometown. His style is clear and straightforward, and does not hesitate to tackle thorny issues.
