This is a war story that covers the friendship between 2 soldiers American and Russian. How time changes their relationship. The inner conflict of the 2 soldiers about the thought of killing their best friend because their country demands it.Also a looming force of revenge and the threat of another global conflict  awakens. Help came from the most unlikely of sources. I was taking a literature subject in my 1st year in which we were studying the elements of story: setting, conflict, climax, and resolution.


     The odd thought occurred to me while I was studying that we didn't know where the elements of story come from. I mean, we might have a guy's name who thought of them, but we don't know why they exist. I started wondering why the heart and mind responded to this specific formula when it came to telling stories. So I broke it down. Setting: That was easy; every story has a setting. My setting is Philippines, on earth. I understand setting because I experience setting. I am sitting in a room, in a house, I have other characters living in this house with me, that sort of thing. The reason my heart understood setting was because I experienced setting. 



     But then there was conflict. Every good story has conflict in it. Some conflict is internal, some is external, but if you want to write a novel that sells, I guess you need to have a conflict. We understand conflict because we experience conflict, but where does conflict come from? Why do we experience conflict in our lives? This helped me a great deal in accepting the idea of a sin and the birth of conflict. The rebellion as an adult explained why humans experienced conflict in their lives, and nobody knows of any explanation other than this. Conflict is a thing that we don't want to experience, yet we were forced to experience it. Maybe faith wants us to experience it so we did. In a story conflict starts how the plot go well, but in reality this is somehow we wanted to avoid with.



     The heart responds to conflict within story, I began to think, because there is some great conflict in the universe with which we are interacting, even if it is only in the subconscious. If we were not experiencing some sort of conflict in our  lives, our hearts would have no response to conflicts in books or film. The idea of conflict, of having tension, suspense, or an enemy, would make no sense to us. But these things do make sense. We understand these elements because we experience them, As much as I did not want to admit it, our own encounter and experience explained why.




     And then the element of story known as climax. Every good story has a climax, but to me this was the starting point of scarifying part. If human heart uses the tools of reality to create elements of story, and the human heart responds to climax in the structure of story, this means that climax, or point of decision, could very well be something that exists in the universe. What I mean is that there is a decision the human heart needs to make and this also connects the the thread of conflict.




     Lastly the resolution. If someone will have to put it, maybe they will prefer the better resolution, or maybe the opposite one, but in our journey, as human, we can't able to know our resolution nut others can and that's the worst part. I know some of you can already understand this well, as silly as it sounds but we will have our own resolution, as if it was like a children's story. It wasn't cute or neat. It was mystical and odd and clean, and it was reaching into dirty. There was wonder in it and enchantment.



     "Perhaps, I thought, being adult really was the difference between illusion and magic."



People has started clapping beforehand. I was assigned as the representative of the impromptu story telling in our class. After the presentation I went back to my seat where my group seats. 



"That was "wow" Haru." Ron with the sparkling face.


"I was about to cut my breath while standing in front but I saw your face looking at me while opening your mouth. It made me think I just need to tell them a story where the story is in the story. By the way thanks." Replying him while holding my laugh.


"A story where the story is in the story. Man that was cool!" Shin with also a sparkling face.


"Dude, you should shave your mustache, I can barely see it 3 meters apart." Replying to Shin while holding my laugh because the class was still going.


"Dude, I just gave you a complement and that's what you will pay to me? give me back my words of praise! Wait... you think so? my mustache? man it feels like I've been bad-mouthed by someone" Shin with a disappointing face.


"I am bad mouthing you." Again, holding my laugh to avoid class interruption.

After the whole presentation, in the end we get the second highest score. The girl that was on my group, Claire, who's good at math seems to have an interest in interacting with the three of us, but Ron and Shin hesitated to approach her since she's too quite so I've been pushed to throw some questions by my self.


"What did you think of the lecture?" I once asked here.


"I thought it was okay."


"Just okay?" I asked.


"Yeah, I mean, this is supposed to be a minor subject but it feels like it was a major. I hope they don't put the cookies on a lower shelf all year." 


"Cookies?" I asked. I thought she had cookies.


"Yeah, what do you mean?" She replied.


"No, it's nothing" 


"Hmmm? You thought of something other "cookies" aren't you?" She smirked.


"Man I thought i could escape the situation." I said it while laughing in shame.


"Class is almost done hold it while you still can." She smiled.


"No, I mean, how do I put it, it's not that I'm hung—" I stopped when Claire stared at me.


"W-what?"


"Nope, it's nothing i never thought you were a funny one." She smiled again.


"Huh?"


"Don't worry I get it." She turn around and listen to our professor again.


"If you say you already get it then I guess there's no need for me to explain then." 


     That was only the long talk I had with Claire, I suppose it would. 


    After that, we finally take our leave after doing our assignment in the classroom cleaning. Later on while Ron, Shin and me was about to leave, Claire said something before she goes home.


"Haru."


"Yes?" I was surprised while she called me.


"If you want cookies... I might bring some for you tomorrow." She smiled while walking away.

We know nothing at all when it comes to love and romance, being a fine adult maybe a jumble for us, but I know someday things will reflect in the future.

The raves of the last court session drew the whole city attention to the court today, every inch of the court ground was occupied with people, the press houses has to registered for their reporters to find spaces in the courtroom. Since that day the Mayor of the city nor is wife has been seen in the public, and rumour has that the Mayor's wife could not returned home to the Mayor, rather she went to her parent in the city next to this.
    Apart from these, fights were heard in the Judge, SAN Terror and some other eminent people of the city's homes. So today there were gloomy faces sitting in the courtroom, Richie was no more pitied but looked upon as evil insect that must be crushed, more of the powerful men of the city had seen his memoir and only those that their wives were not beautiful were spared, but the rest are wishing that Richie will die air miserable death! Though all of them with the exception of The Mayor kept their misery to themselves, because they don't want to become the city laughing object like the Mayor and his wife. 
    All kinds of unconfirmed rumours floated around these eminent people and their homes from that day, and many of them just want to wait for this case to run its course before they will pounce on whatever will remain of Richie.
     So as they all sat down in the court looking at the Kid wonder lawyer taking his stand before them, there was serious tension in the room. SAN Terror seemed tamed where he sat and he doesn't look like he still want to defend Richie's right.
   The kid wonder lawyer turned to the judge and said, "My lord I will like to continue to defend my client by calling on sir Boripe if you so wish. Immediately he called sir Boripe noise erupt in the courtroom because people believed that Richie must have sampled his wife too, and they were saying it among themselves that no wonder the wealthy man is supporting Tolu against him. But the case did not at all go in that direction, rather it opened a story they had all forgotten afresh.
    Once Sir Boripe swore to an oath, the kid lawyer said, Sir I know you are a very busy man, so this court highly appreciate you for voluntarily coming up to be a witness in this important case. Sir Boripe said its a pleasure. Then the kid wonder lawyer said sir I want to  remind you of a date and I will like you to tell us everything you can remember about that very day, Sir Boripe asked, " What date?" The young lawyer said the date is April ninth of year 2011.
   When SAN Terror heard this his ear got pricked and his countenance changed for worse, he changed his sitting posture and sat on the edge of his seat like a man that is ready to pounce on a victim.
     Sir Boripe cleared his throat and with great emotion he said, "That day is an unforgettable day in my life, I remembered it like no other day because of what happened to me then. Prior to the day I discovered some of my staffs were using my cargo plane to smuggle into the country conflict diamonds and that can ruing my reputation as  an international diamond merchant." Before he could proceed, the kid wonder lawyer cut into his story with two questions, "Sorry that I interrupt your story sir, for the sakes of many of us that are novice about diamonds can you please tell this court what conflict diamond is and how it can soil your reputation?"
    Sir Boripe explained, "Well, conflict diamonds are diamonds shipped out from war torn West African countries by either the government of those countries or the guerrilla armies fighting against the government to raise money to buy weapons to prosecute their wars. The reason these diamonds can tarnished any merchant's image at that time was that it has been banned in the international market so that those warring nations could be starved of funds to finance the wars. 
      And the whole world then were monitoring the market to catch any one with that diamond and named him the sponsored of the unending blood shed in West Africa. So, to discover such diamond within my consignment means a lot. On the day that you mentioned, I laid hand on the first set of that conflict diamonds and I phone the Police Inspector general that I would bring it to their office so that they can help me to trace its source. But on my way to the capital my armoured car suddenly stopped working in the middle of nowhere, a place I knew was dangerous to my existence, so I did not waste time waiting for the driver to do something with the car. I waved the next available car coming back to town down and a lady carried me and dropped me at the train station.
     It was at the train station that I realised that the car that broke down did not happened by accident but it was a planned thing. The kid wonder lawyer asked him how he came to such conclusion?
     He replied and said, "As I stepped down and was thanking the lady who brought me out of the jungle to the train station, a guy walked towards me and gave me an unexpected blinding slap, and immediately he snatched the diamond case from me and began to run.....SAN Terror jumped up at this point and shouted, my Lord this is a waste of this court time, these people are just flailing about on non relative issues, I did not see how this story relate with a bride dishing her groom on the wedding day, please tell them to stick to the matters at hand" As he was ranting and panting, Sir Boripe looked at the Judge with a kind of warning glance, if not, the judge would have forced him to abandon the story, but instead he meekly told SAN Terror to sit down and he told the kid wonder lawyer to be quick with what he is unto.
    Immediately, sir Boripe continued and said, "I got up and began to shout thief - thief - as I pursued the guy. At this point in his story everybody in the court remembered the story and they were anxious to hear it from him because when it happened they only read diverse diluted versions of it on the tabloids, so there was some kind of rumbling in the court.
     Sir Boripe continued, " The guy could have gotten away because he was younger, trimmed and athletic, but some guys around the train station and two policemen joined me in the chase and we pursue the guy until he was caught.
      SAN Terror jumped up again and asked, "have i not said it that these people are here to waste our time, now he has finished with his story, how relative was the story to what we are dealing with?
    The kid wonder lawyer answered him, " With few more minutes you will see how it connect to this issue." The judge at that moment decided to let the court go on recess so as to give SAN Terror time to adjust to the direction the case is going.
    However, the moment they resumed from the recess SAN Terror did not allowed the kid wonder lawyer to continue, he asked for adjournment on the ground that he needed time to intimate himself with the story shared by Sir Boripe. On hearing this, the people in the court began to murmur but their murmuring did not stop the judge from granting his request. He told all the people that SAN Terror definitely need time to prepare himself to question Boripe, so he adjourned the case for two full months.

He was in the deep gutter of jungle justice, in a matter of minutes he'll loose his life for crime he did not commit; and from the blues she stepped out to expose the real criminal and saved him.
Though nothing could match what she has done, but to show gratitude he helped her to secure a job where he worked and this caused a rift between him and his girl friend who was a born with silver in the mouth neighbour of his saviour.
With this girl friend annoying needless tantrums, he dumped her and decided to focus on the saviour, but she refused for a long time until he cleared off her chief reason for saying no through a special arrangement, and they started a sexless relationship which he  really did not like.
After a while in their cat and mouse sexless engagement, the criminal that she exposed to save him showed up with acid plastic and ruined her beauty.
With her beauty ruined he lost interest in her and dumped her for her traitorous friend. This set them up for a long journey of deadly vengeance. This book is a book for the strong hearted who can have food on the table and be glued to printed page that cant be put down to be read later!

During the lesson, Mrs. Nia and Bella watched Daniel.  However, Daniel remained indifferent to the two people because his head was already getting dizzy.

 He was just busy alone during class hours.

 Mrs. Nia could not stand this, she also asked Daniel.

 "Daniel, do you understand what Mother explained?"

 "Yes," Daniel answered curtly.

 Mrs. Nia was silent.  He continued, "I want to ask. What is Short Story?"

 Daniel looked at Mrs. Nia, then answered "Short stories are types of literary works that are presented or explained in written form in the form of a story or a story that is short, clear, and concise. Are there any more questions, Ma'am?"

 Mrs. Nia was stunned. She asked again, "There are two elements in a short story, namely Extrinsic and Intrinsic. Mention the intrinsic elements in a short story."

 Daniel thought for a moment, then answered "There are seven Intrinsic Elements in the Short Story. These include: Theme, Flow, Characterization, Setting or Setting, Viewpoints, Mandate, and Style of Storytelling."  Daniel paused.

 Daniel answered again, "The theme is a subject that underlies a story. A plot is a step or a path from a story. The story sequence can usually be intertwined over time, events or relationships of cause and effect. Broadly speaking, the plot or plot sequence is an introduction  - then a conflict or problem emerges - an increase in the problem or conflict - the peak of the problem (climax) - then a decrease in the problem or conflict - and finally the problem is resolved. "

 "The setting is the place of events, time, and atmosphere in a story ..."

 After mentioning the various intrinsic elements in the short story, Daniel explains each point clearly and completely to make the class quiet.

 However, his last words made Mrs. Nia ashamed.

 "But Ma'am, this hasn't been explained to Mother yet."

 Mrs. Nia's face turned red, she said, "Hasn't it been explained yet? Thanks Daniel for explaining."

 Daniel kept quiet and nodded.  Many angry stares directed at Daniel, but he just shrugged nonchalantly.

 Shortly after, the recess bell rang.

 "Children, it's time to rest."

 Mrs. Nia then quickly took her bag and book and then left the classroom.

 Some male students stood up, then came to Daniel.

 "What do you want?"  asked Daniel, who remained busy with his own business.

 "You..."

 Their angry words were not over, but Daniel was immediately cut off.

 "What you guys are doing actually makes Bella scared," Daniel then points to Bella and looks at the person who is angry with her.

 Sure enough, Bella's face was filled with an expression of fear.

 All male students see Bella scared, finally spreading.  There are some people who say loudly.


 "Just wait later after school."

 "I'll wait for you later."

 Daniel did not take them seriously, he nonchalantly answered, "Yes, what do you say."

 After saying that, Daniel stopped writing.

 Sighing in relief, Bella asked Daniel, "What did you make, Daniel?"

 "Nothing special, I just wrote a few things to do at home," Daniel replied, staring at Bella.

 "Daniel, aren't you going to the cafeteria?"

 "No. You didn't go to the canteen?"

 "No, I'm a new student, so I don't know where the canteen is."

 "Ah, that's right. Where did all the students go to in the class? Usually if there were new students like this, they took them to the canteen," Daniel grumbled

 "Because later you can starve because you don't eat, let me accompany you to the canteen. Even though I only go there once or twice," he continued.

 "Eh? Really?"  Bella is surprised because of Daniel's friendliness.

 Seeing Bella surprised, Daniel said, "Of course."

 Hearing this, Bella finally found out who she hit, but for some reason the person who was hit even immediately told her, even though that person didn't know that the person she was talking about was right in front of her.

 "Eh? You were hit by a car?"  Bella's voice showed surprise, she was about to continue, but had arrived at the canteen.

 "Later the story goes, let's find a table first," Daniel said, inviting Bella to find a table.

 Before finding a table, a group of girls in class 11-B had called Bella.

 "Bella, come here and there! There's still one empty chair."

 Hana stands to pick up Bella.

 Hana immediately stood up then walked towards the canteen mother.

 "Ouch, forgetfulness. Introduce me, I'm Nurul. Next to me is Silvia, then that who ordered your food is Hana. Greetings, Bella."

 "Greetings, Bella."

 "Greetings, Silvia, Nurul."

 "Oh yeah, Bella, why were you with Daniel?"

 Nurul was curious about what had happened between Bella and Daniel so he asked with curious eyes.

"Our Huang Family's history started hundreds of years ago. There are two well known clans in this city. One is our Huang Family, while the other is the Long Family. Years ago, the Long Family tried to enter into a marriage alliance with our Huang Family. And that was when they betrayed us."
It was as if a stone was lodged in her throat as she stared at her grandfather. Why did that story sound like what happened in her past life?
"Since then, the Huang and Long Families have been each other's nemesis." The old man let out a sigh. "Of course, this was nothing but a legend. Something that was passed from mouth to mouth. No one was able to verify this as the written history of our city had long vanished. All records were burned during the Great Clan Conflict that happened five hundred years ago."
"That was one of the saddest parts of our history. The conflict killed many of our assassins, people who had abilities beyond human perception. Some clans were obliterated while some were weakened to the point of losing all of their influence. Of course our Huang Clan was not one of those clans. We survived and so did the Long Clan. The conflict killed a lot of people, giving birth to more hatred. Because of this, the feud between our Huang Clan and Long Clan continues to this day."
The older man sighed before he continued, "Even in business, the Long Clan is trying to provoke us, creating conflict every now and then by sabotaging our businesses in the country and abroad. And to be honest… this is getting exhausting."
Lyca's lips thinned. It seemed that this Huang Family was more complicated than she originally thought.
"Now, to continue," the old man said. "Our family… is losing our influence. We are losing in this never ending battle. Our black market influence is slowly decreasing, our mines have been raided and destroyed, and our experts have been poached by the Long Family." His face turned serious, a tinge of anger visible in his time-worn eyes. "They are trying to swallow our entire family."
"Grandfather…" She looked at him. "All I want is a peaceful life." If she knew that this Huang Family had this kind of background, she would have declined that CEO position! She could only sigh inwardly. Why did her grandfather not tell her this before he declared her as his heir?
"As I said… you can have your peace if the Long Family stops what they are trying to do now. Our Huang Family only wants to focus on business and we had not done anything to provoke the Long Family for years now. However, this changed when the Long Patriarch succumbed to illness five years ago. After his son, the current patriarch, became their clan leader, he started provoking us. Surprisingly, that man has gathered the support of many other families."
Couldn't they just kill everyone and move on with their lives? Of course, she didn't utter such words to her grandfather. On the outside, her face was languid and relaxed. However, on the inside, Lyca was already thinking of ways to easily deal with this problem. Should she poison everyone in the Long Family? Maybe put it in the water that they drink? Attacking them head on sounded troublesome. Or she could just run away and disappear.
Right now, running away to avoid conflict was really tempting. Seeing her blank expression, her grandfather let out another sigh.
"I know it is too much to understand. However, you are the only one who can lead the clan."

I specifically choose Tokyo as a central location in my story because in a survey; Tokyo will be the largest megacity of the world in near future, if not it is already. A large megacity is perfect premise for a dystopian style story, and as for the concept of Mutants, I wanted to make some fantastical Demihumans, counterpart to Aliens or Transhumans, but still provides a science fiction tone with fantastic racism for any racist or savvy human character.
A sub-human species who doesn't exhibit any sort of unusual physical trait that distinguishes them from regular humans such as pointy ears, skin colour or cute little fangs that it would be clearly odd or unusual without being obviously nonhuman. In addition, unlike the X-men like Mutants who have individually specific superpowers I gave my Mutants some creepy lovecraftian superpowers: power to generate blades and weapons from one's body. and have physical superiority over regular humans. The world is dark, war-ravaged, chaotic. Settings supposed to be gritty, bleak, realistic and violent. It depicts a hellhole of a future grimdark/dystopian world theme where the majority of the human nations at war, either with one another or the fantastic demihumans called Mutants. An alternate futuristic all out war between six major world powers of an "Evil versus Evil" is the usual archetype. As I said before, at the beginning I drew inspiration, mainly some names from the Activision's Prototype game series and that's about it. Later the story stand out of it's own, I could changed the borrowed names anytime. So, please stop comparing from one another! Be sure to vote, the book is already low on ranking and popularity.

The Gentle Primates Tribe had been peaceful once. 
Just like what Dennis said, it was built by the couple that was once been adopted and raised by a human after death of the same person. They wanted to re-create the society that they were used to seeing, but also wanted primates to be the one's leading tribe. This is the reason why that couple taught the monkeys that came what they know. 
As time went on, the monkey couple eventually got older. One would think that they should've at least had a child or two but sadly, they were unfortunate in that aspect.
Reproduction had always been a problem for beasts, specially Demonic Beast. 
The stronger their genes is, the harder it is for them to conceive a child. It's not the question of whether 'were they really trying?' either. These are beasts. Of course they're trying.
The founders of the tribe were gratified to watch as their tribe grew larger, they would've been happier if they had a child but they have none. They tried and tried until they reached the point where both of them understood that it's no longer possible. They were both so old that its hopeless.
As the ones who founded tribe, of course they worried about its well being after they pass on. And since they do not have the child which replace them in their role, they could only search for alternatives. 
The founders knew every single monkey that joined the tribe. They both agreed to choose an heir from one of them, but the chosen must be deemed worthy by not only them but the tribe as well. In the end, they were able to pick the next tribe leader. The founders took the chosen one as their adopted child and passed on their knowledge about leading the tribe. 
The founders then died of old age but with relieved faces. 
But of course, that's not the end of the story for the tribe. The tribe leader that was raised by the founders, shared the same unfortunate fate as them. The tribe leader and his wife weren't able to conceive a child either. And just like how the tribe leader was chosen, he decided to follow the footsteps of the founders and choose an heir to the tribe. 
Since then, it became somewhat of the tradition. This is not to say that every Tribe Leader that was chosen, was impotent. Some of them actually managed to conceive a child. 
But as if like a curse, their children weren't chosen since they did not have the proper qualities and mindset to lead a tribe. 
And this is where the problem started.

"It was when during the reign of the 5th Tribe Leader that our tribe, the Gentle Primates Tribe, experienced it's first tribal conflict." Allan recalled the story as Dennis sat on his neck. Raven was on the side and listening to the whole story in silence. 
"The 5th was different from the rest. If the previous tribe leaders either didn't have a child or have a child but is unworthy and were force to choose another heir. The 5th broke this rule since his child was deemed worthy, not only by him but by the rest of the tribe as well."
"The 5th had three children." Allan said which somehow surprised Raven. "Just by that alone, he could be considered as someone blessed by the heavens. But that's not where the issue lies."
"His children were just like regular siblings. They were close to each other and they were inseparable. Needless to say, they all have different personalities."
"The eldest was the strongest. The younger one is the smartest. And the youngest is the gentlest."
"The eldest was admired by the whole tribe because of his strength. It is said that he was able to reduce a huge boulder into smithereens just by a mere punch from him. He became famous due to his strength which also changed his personality."
"The younger sibling was the deemed as the savior of the tribe. With his sharp mind, he helped the tribe solve many problems which made the tribe flourish even more. Unlike the eldest, he didn't allow fame to get onto his head which made his personality stable."
"Finally, the youngest one." Allan paused and sighed, "According what was told to me, he was the most unimpressive one. He didn't do anything note worthy nor did he have a staggering fame, wits or strength unlike what his family had. But if there's anything he had, that would be the biggest heart that accepts and forgives."
"He does not discriminate. No matter what the color of one's fur is, nor how rough their personality might appear. He always treated them same and accepted them. They said that he's the first one to cry and also the last one to stop crying when someone died."
"He's the weakest of the siblings, yet he was the most relied upon. There was even a time when the 5th himself seek him for advise on how to handle a specific situation. And his answer granted the best benefit for the tribe as a whole. Unknowingly, this was also the same time when the 5th had decided to pass on the title to him."
"Of course, the siblings were shocked when they heard the announcement. This shocked the youngest the most since he didn't find himself worthy to succeed his father's responsibilities. I heard that he even refused it."
"But the decision was made and it could no longer be changed. Ever since then, the youngest spent time learning everything that he needs in order to lead the tribe. All this, while his siblings felt like they were robbed of something that should've been theirs."
"The eldest thought that if their father is going to pass on the title to his children, they it should've been him who was chosen since he came first. Not only that, he is strong and his more than capable of keeping the tribe safe compared to the youngest."
"The younger one felt entitled for the first time in his life. It was him who made the lives of the tribe better using his ideas. It was him who contributed the most so by right, he should've been chosen."
"A rift appeared on the relationship of the siblings. It then turned into conflict after their parents died and suddenly, the tribe was split into tree factions and went on war against each other."
"The eldest challenged the youngest on a contest of strength while the younger one challenged him on a battle of wits. The youngest accepted both challenges since he didn't want anyone to get hurt by conflict anymore."
"He lost both challenges. Miserably too." Allan stated, "He nearly lost his life on the battle against his oldest bro and he didn't even had the chance against his older bro."
"Contrary to belief however, he remained as the Tribe Leader, not because his siblings felt guilty or something, but because his gentleness and care for the tribe was so genuine that it moved the opposing factions to stop the conflict. Majority of them joined the faction of the youngest and the tribe was mostly whole again, even the younger one dropped his weapons and joined them."
"Unfortunately, the oldest was the most stubborn one. Instead of admitting defeat, he felt humiliated by the betrayal of his comrades. And since the tribe won't acknowledge him as their leader, he decided to create a tribe of his own and crown himself as its founder."
There was a tinge of sadness on the Allan's voice, Dennis was looking down and lost as well. 
"The conflict never ended from there. The tribe of the eldest, which is named as the Frenzied Silverback Tribe, constantly hunted those from ours. We tried talking sense to them but nothing worked."
"It is now the reign of the 7th, the conflict amongst tribes had only gotten worse from then." Allan sighed despite himself, "The 7th had chosen two heirs so far, but both of them got assassinated by the opposing tribe. You know the rest."
"Dennis was chosen as the next heir but someone is still not satisfied with this arrangement so they sent someone to assassinate him as well." Raven stated, getting a nod from Allan. 
Raven massaged his temples and a long sigh escaped from his mouth. He smiled wryly and said: "Wow, even this drama is very human-like. I don't know if I should say that I'm impressed or creeped out."
"So?" Raven asked them both, "What do you plan on doing now?"
Dennis remained silent, Allan then spoke: "First, we would like to tell this to our Eldest Bro. He's got a respectable position in the tribe, I think he'll know what to do."
"Alright then." Raven nodded, he the looked at the listless monkey that is following them. 
This was the Gil, the same monkey that tried to assassinate Dennis a few moments ago. Raven didn't know what to do to him just yet so he just postponed it before knowing their story. And since he's now aware, it is time to deal with him. 
"Do you guys want me to kill this guy?"

After you confirm what genre and topic you wish to write about, it's now time for you as an author to design your settings and write the overall planned outline for your plot. As for why I'm putting these two elements together, that's because these two elements are deeply interconnected and inseparable.
 
When you're writing the overall outline, this is basically coming up with the story's plot. As you write the outline, what you're actually doing is fleshing out the details for your setting.
 
When you're writing a story, of course, you need to first consider where your story will happen, when it happens, who it happens to, and what type of person it happens to. As the story progresses, you also need to consider who the main character will meet in the story, what time and place he or she meets them at, along with who's stronger and who's weaker than the main character…
 
This is why by the time that you're finished with your overall outline, the world's background, various factions, levels, special abilities, treasures, all the important characters… and such settings will be naturally completed during the course of outlining.
 
The reverse is true as well. If you first work on designing the detailed settings instead, then you'll basically end up with an outline for the story's plot and how the main character grows over the story as well.
 
Of course, there's still some differences depending on which angle you start from. However, newcomer authors like you don't need to worry about this. You can simply create based on your personality and whatever you prefer. It doesn't matter whether you start from the settings or the outline. You can even do both at the same time.
 
For newcomer authors like you, there's only five points that are critically important for you to understand.
 
1.      Having an overall outline isn't absolutely necessary, but having one is always better than not having one
 
Theoretically speaking, even if you didn't prepare an overall outline, it might not affect the progress of you writing your novel at all. There are some authors out there that simply write whatever comes into their mind and go with the flow.
 
Of course, this is all just a best-case scenario in theory. For the great majority of authors out there, once your story's plot exceeds your planned outline... 

Your outline will help your story stay on track in the early stages, but once you reach the mid and late stages, all sorts of problems often appear, such as too many plotlines all at once, self-contradictory plotlines, or writer's block…
 
At such a time, authors will typically regret not creating a more detailed outline, but it's already too late now. Actually, overall outlines have more uses than you think.
 
Since webnovels are typically longer than normal novels, they take much longer to write as well. Typically, it takes an average author several months or even longer to finish writing everything in their overall outline. By the time that they're finish writing everything in their overall outline, most authors will have new ideas and insights into what they want to write. Once they combine their new ideas with their original outline, in a way, this gives them two sources of inspiration. It's basically the equivalent of two people working together, and on top of that, these two people know exactly what each other are thinking.
 
It's easy to see how this can be helpful in improving the quality of your novel.
 
Apart from this, while creating an overall outline, the author can also discover many topics or problems with the settings and correct them in time.
 
To give an extreme example, if you're having a great difficulty with writing your overall outline and don't know what to do with your own plot, this proves that there's a large problem with your plot. You should either make major changes, or delete this part of your plot entirely.
 
So, newcomer authors definitely shouldn't overlook the uses of having an overall outline. No matter if you have a good or bad outline, a simple or a detailed one, as long as you have one, that's good.
 
What needs to be noted is that only outlines that have been written out truly count as outlines.
 
Even if you as an author have a very detailed outline, and even if you've solidly memorized every single plot point in your outline, any outline that hasn't been written into your novel doesn't count as a true outline. That's because when you actually start writing, you'll discover that what you finally end up writing will always have differences from what you envisioned.
 
2.      You need to finish your outline, but it doesn't need to be complete
 
Thinking about your outline is equivalent to thinking about your novel's plot. You need to consider both the beginning and the end. You also need to think about everything that the main character experiences from the beginning to the end of the story.
 
If your outline isn't finished, but only half-finished, you won't even be able to predict the storylines that come later, which will cause you to have difficulties writing your plot once you finish the beginning stages. This is basically the same as not having an outline at all.
 
Still, there's no need for us to make the outline as detailed as possible from the very beginning, with so many specific scenarios for all your plots. The reason for this is quite simple—none of us know just how long our novels will turn out to be in the end.
 
A story that's written with the intent of becoming a commercial product needs to be sufficiently long enough right from the planning stage. The longer your potential story, the better. But actually, how many words it finally ends up with depends on how well your story performs.
 
If your story is incredibly popular and performs well in the market, then we can consider writing it for as long as possible. However, if your story obviously isn't popular with readers, then you can consider ending your story in a timely fashion at an appropriate point in the plot so that you can think of a new story instead. That would be a wiser decision if you wish to become a professional author.
 
Of course, when you're only in the outlining stage, it's impossible for you as a newcomer author to know how readers will react to your novel. Precisely because of this, you need to have a flexible writing plan. What this means is that you should have an outline that's detailed in the beginning and general near the end. For the beginning of your story, you should have as detailed an outline as possible, while for the middle and especially the later parts of your story, you only need some general ideas. All you need is to consider the overall development of the plot so that you know what direction to take your storyline in.
 
For example, maybe you planned that the beginning of your novel will be approximately 80,000 words, and you've prepared a 4,000-word outline for just the beginning. In that case, your outline for the next 80,000 words, the middle of your story, might only need 3000 words, and the meat of your story, another 240,000 words, might have an outline that's less than 1000 words.
 
Of course, as you continue writing your story, you should constantly update your outline as well. You should complete your outline for the next 80,000 words before you finish writing the first 80,000 words.
 
3.      Your settings need to be constantly updated

Just like writing an outline, you should first come up with the basic settings before you even begin writing, which includes your world background, main character's personality, power levels, and so on.
 
More specific settings, such as a powerful artifact that appears in the story, can be added as you write your story.
 
Unlike an outline, you don't need to fully plan out all of your settings at the very beginning. It's perfectly acceptable to think of new settings while you're writing.
 
However, newcomer authors need to note that while it's okay to come up with new settings as you write, you should write these settings down and add them to your outline or settings document as you write.
 
This is to help yourself check your own settings later in the future. Otherwise, a novel that reached over one million words and has lasted for one year or longer might cause you as an author to completely forget about something you wrote before in the past. It's even quite common to make a mistake when writing about the items that the main character possesses. Yet, there will always be a sharp-eyed reader or two that catches the author out in a misstep.
 
If you have a very detailed document on your settings, not only will you be able to greatly reduce your own plot continuity errors, you'll also be able to look through your settings whenever you have writer's block and find some inspiration in a side character that you have already forgotten about or some item that was mentioned before but never used again.
 
4.      It's better for your settings to be cliché
 
Here, this means the systems and names that you use for your settings. For example, the names and levels you use for a martial arts society.
 
Many newcomer authors will mistakenly think that using already existing well-known settings will make their novel seem too cliché, causing them to want to be as "unique" as possible. These authors will use their imaginations to come up with all sorts of fictional vocabulary words, which in their minds will make their novels "stand out." These newcomer authors don't realize that this is the worst possible way to write a novel. In the great majority of situations, this will have the opposite effect from intended.
 
A new original novel that you write should be a new interpretation or story about some specific genre or story type. How to make your novel stand out depends on the conflicts you create in your story and how the main character resolves them. As for coming up with new vocabulary words and names for your novel, even if you make them sound really cool, or make some modified slang words, it's almost never a good thing for you.
 
The reason for this can also be understood in my article about how to write the beginning of your story. By doing so, the author is placing more burden upon the readers to understand a larger amount of information.
 
There will always be other already existing words that you could have used, which are easily understood by all your readers. Instead, your readers now need to spend their time and effort on reading your explanations. Obviously, readers aren't here to read your technical manuals or info dumps. The more explanations that you have in your novel, the lower your novel's appeal and flow will become. But, if you don't add any explanations for your self-created words at all, the readers won't even understand what's going on.
 
This is why newcomer authors should avoid this useless type of "creativity" as much as possible. You should simply rely on settings that all readers are familiar with instead.
 
5.      The storyline should be pushed forward by using conflicts
 
Many newcomer authors will often develop writer's block when planning their outline or working on their novel.
 
Sometimes, this is because the author has made their storyline too messy. But most of the time, it's because the author feels like there's nothing to write about, or doesn't know what they should make the main character do. The author has no idea how to continue their own story.
 
In order to deal with writer's block, or in other words, how to push your storyline alone, the answer is actually incredibly simple.
 
You can answer this question using only one word – Conflicts!
 
Actually, the critical element of all webnovels can be summed up into one word – conflicts. For example, leveling is the desire or need of the main character to become stronger, which is a conflict between the main character and his or her own current weakness.
 
And since there is a conflict, you must resolve the conflict. And so, your main character wants to cultivate to become stronger, which means he needs to travel around the world in order to find cultivation methods…
 
All sorts of conflicts will both push forward your storyline as well as create numerous climaxes for your readers. It can be said that how you design your conflicts is the very foundation of writing any novel, not just a webnovel.
 
As for a more detailed analysis on how to design your story's conflicts, please read my intermediate-level article on the topic. For newcomer authors like you, you simply need to understand this concept, and know that you should keep coming up with new conflicts whenever you're having trouble keeping up with your own storyline. Try finding potential conflicts from plots, characters, and items you've already used, or forcefully introduce a new element into your story that creates a new conflict.
 
This can be said to be one of the most basic techniques of planning your storyline.
