    I didn't say much as I walked out of the house with Mya right behind me.     "No part of it is what I said I want to swing by the mall to pick out a gift for Ruby and Damien but mostly to keep you from doing something stupid." replied Mya getting frustrated at me.
    "Like what?" I snap back as I start to get a bit frustrated myself.
    "Well seeing as you screwed up and are angry my first assumption would be that you're going to the bar to get dead drunk!" snapped Mya before more calmly adding, "Yet I've never seen you drink once so I figure I can cross that off the list."
    "You've only seen me at work Mya and you should know I take my job seriously and prefer to be professional at all times." I reply.
    "Yah but I've also been to your house twice and have never found a single bottle of liquor nor a can of beer." replied Mya with a smile, "Besides you're more likely going down to the gun range since you've brought your gun with you."
    "Except police protocol dictates that you carry your side arm from threshold to threshold." replied Marcus, "Thus whenever I leave my lab, or house I have to have me side arm on me."
    "Except you're on vacation. Thus off duty and not completely bound by the rules of the police guide book." replied Mya.
    "What do you want me to say Mya?" I ask finally having enough of her games as I start to pull into the mall.
    "That you won't break Ruby and Damien's heart. That you're going to come into the mall with me and we're going to find something nice for both Ruby and Damien!" replied Mya looking at me waiting for a response.
    "I sure hope you're planning on being a prosecuting attorney because I really would hate to be across the court from you." I reply with a smile before surprising her with a kiss on the cheek before whispering, "I promise unless you want me to change your opinion on penises."
    "Marcus J Squirrel! How dare you." teased Mya with a smile. "You even put Mia to shame with that suggestion there mister."
    "Wow didn't know that was even possible." I teased as I parked the car and slowly got out.

    "Well what is it you want to get Damien and Ruby from here anyways?" I ask as we head for the entrance.

    We then broke into laughter and joked around some more before finally finding a store that would have some nice gifts for them. It was an adult shop but more then the normal kind you see. It specializes in curtain custom and fandom related toys. Now having spent three semesters with Ruby and one with Damien Mya knew what they liked.
    So first was Ruby's gift. For her we got her a dark purple with a pink stripe ponytail vibrating annal plug with light purple wings. Now I knew she liked the characters from the show this one was from because of the description of her stuffed animal collection as for the character I chose my favorite character from the show.

    Now I debated on actually getting liquor or alcohol but I know a bit about Damien's past and don't want to put him in a tight spot on our first Christmas. So I head to the sparkling wine sections and start browsing when I hear a commotion at the desk and drop into a defensive stance. I make a quick scan of the store to find two gun men one near the register the other near the door.
    My first move is to pull out my phone and send a message to dispatch. The message read, Code 223 Jones Liquors store it down town mall. Two gun men. Moving to intercept. Send back up.
    Then putting my phone away I draw my side arm and slowly make my way towards the door. I might as well trap them inside the store and leave them with one hostage instead of releasing them through out the mall. Once near the door I slowly step out into the open and raising the gun with one paw and using the other to flip the security cage door lever.
    With a grinding noise the security gate started to close and the gun men panic and the one runs for the door until I step between him and the door and say, "Anthrotopian Police Department Don't move."
    "Drop your gun cop or the clerk gets it." replied the gun men near the register.
    "Easy now how about we all lower our guns and think things through before we ruin anyone's Christmas plans anymore then they already have been." I reply.
    "We still out gun you though." replied the guy at the door as flashed his guy before putting it in my face.
    "Nice but you really should clean your gun more it's bound to clog and misfire." I reply before I pushing the barrel out of my face with one paw before adding, "You're licked in here and if you both still have your guns up when the police which I called ten minutes ago arrive which should be any minute now. They will not hesitate to shot both of you. Now there is no reason the four of us can't walk out of here alive and unharmed."
    "Yah but we spend the night in jail." snapped the one guy.
    "How about I make you a one time Christmas deal. I give each of you fifty bucks for your guns and IDs. You go use that money to get your families something for Christmas and then after the new year I'll come pick you up for shop lifting. You spend a few nights in jail then all is well." I offer before looking at the clerk and asking, "That fair to you sir?"
    "Please I just want to go home to my family to night Officer." replied the scared clerk.
    "And you will." I reply before addressing the gun men again, "So what will it be Christmas in Jail or the morgue. Or will you take my deal and spend Christmas with your family?"
    "Can you make it one-hounded dollars each?" asked the one gun men and I could tell he really only wanted to give his family a good Christmas.
    "I can do that but I will want prints and a DNA sample. If I have to hunt you down after New Years or you flea the city then deal is off and you get attempted armed robbery understood?" I ask as I holster my gun.
    Surprisingly they both freely hand me their guns as I approach them and we all walk up to the counter where I get some packaging tape from the clerk and collect finger prints and a hair sample from each of them. I then reach into my wallet and pull out two one hundred dollar bills and hand them to each man.
    As the clerk raises the gate the men remove their masks and I remind them, "First thing New Years morning or deals off."
    "Yes officer." replied the one man.
    "Thank you Officer." replied the other and they headed off looking for a place to by gifts.
    "You fool?" asked the clerk as I went and got the drinks I wanted and placed them on the counter. "You really think they will turn themselves in?"
    "If not my crime lab will find them and lock them away. It's Christmas time can't you cut them some slack?" I ask just as I hear the police come rushing into the store to which they approach me and the lead detective looks at me puzzled.
    "Lt. Squirrel we were alerted to a armed robbery in progress." questioned the lead detective.
    "Yes, I talked the men into surrendering their ID, prints and DNA as well as their guns. I will drop it all off at the lab on my way home." I replied and knowing what his next question was as he looked around the store I added, "I let them go home to their families with one hundred dollars each for my pocket as long as they turn themselves in first thing new years morning and pay me back once they get back on their feet."
    "Great now we got to mad men out there with two hundred dollars and a promise from the police not to bother them until after New Years. Just wait until the chief hears this." snapped the detective.
    "How about a wager then detective?" I ask, "And you can even run this by the chief if he wants in on it. If they don't show up on New Years I'll turn in my badge but if they do show up and turn themselves in then my team gets full access to your units funding and if the chief wonts in on the action tell him I'll settle for the lounge."
    The whole group of Officer look at me like I'm crazy and or nuts so with a smile I added, "He'll understand what I mean."
    I then pay for my things and head for the exit to see a wide eyed Mya holding the gifts. I walk up to her and wave a paw in front of her face before asking, "You okay Mya?"
    "You just bet your badge on some nobodies?" replied Mya as we started for the car.
    "You have to have more faith in people Mya. If we condone everyone just for trying to take care of their family then we'd be saying there was no hope for them. But if we show compassion and kindness then we can change anyone. Do I believe they'll show up yes. Why? Well because I have to believe that there is just enough good in this world that makes them want to do right not because of me but because they want their kids to grow up and do right." I explain.
    Now at the time I didn't know one of the men had heard my comment and as he looked at the gifts he'd purchased for his kids he realized I was right but that's for later. For now we get in the car and head back to my house swinging off and by the lab for me to quickly drop off the evidence and lock it in my desk. We then head back to the house where I find Damien in my study trying to suck himself.
    I instantly see why as I spot the photo of me and my friend from the academy having some gay sex and me sucking myself. I also notice the ring sitting on the desk and my heart sank but I hide the disappointment as I smile at him and tease him. I then help him clean up the book and himself before we head back out to join the others. Damien was hesitant for some reason as he looked around the desk worried about something.

Squirrel finds love in two places he must now work towards altering the out dated and bias laws of the land so that he might be able to finally have a family. This leads to a long battle that also brings out many ghosts of the past into the light only making the challenge even harder.

So thus begins the long battle to which one can only guess what will become of it and in the end which will win; Love or Law?

Note: This was originally six separate books which are being condensed down into one “book” for your ease and will even be gaining a seventh part. I chose to use the title of the first book as the title of the whole book but here is where the story all began. I originally made this as a side project with a friend not sure how long I wanted it to be or even if it was going to have any sequels. Thus the title yet as I got going I figured well once I hit the 50,000 word mark I'll break for a new book. So thus was born the first twenty-four chapters and then what is now volume two continues the story.

Christmas special 
 The morning dawned on the 24th of December when Yan Jun has woken up from his slumber, As he went downstairs he forgot that it was Christmas and that Xiao Ga, An Yue, and Xin Wu was going to come over so after he was done with his daily chores he took a bath and went to the mall to buy some gifts for the three and cake for them to eat for the evening meal and after he has bought everything he needs on his way home, He saw Xiao Ga go into a shady alleyway and saw him talk to someone weird and he hid in a large garbage bin and heard something 

  "Are we going to do it tonight?" The strange person said 

  "Yeah, We'll make sure to make sure that he won't forget it" Xiao Ga replied

  Yan Jun got nervous and held his mouth making sure not to let them notice that he was there. After a few minutes of talking Xiao Ga finally got out and opened his phone and called someone Yan Jun was looking at him and made sure he didn't notice that he was there...

  *Xiao Ga at the phone*

  "Hey, An Yue..."

  Yan Jun was surprised that An Yue was in on it and decided to tail Xiao Ga until they reached Yan Jun home and Xiao Ga took a picture of it and sent it to someone Yan Jun was shocked that he is the target and after Xiao Ga left Yan Jun entered his house and after he sets down the presents and cake he started shaking with fear cause he doesn't know what he did to Xiao Ga to target him.

  *a few hours later*

  It was 2 hours before December 25th befall on them and the first guess arrived was Xin Wu and she brought someone with her then after that An Yue arrived then the last one to arrive was Xiao Ga and there were three huge men that followed Xiao Ga inside and it made Yan Jun even more anxious and scared then after a moment of silence Xiao Ga stood up and said

  "This silence is tiresome I'll start" Xiao Ga ordered one of the men to give the others their gift Yan Jun didn't received one instead he was carried and the visitors were just smiling like normal but to Yan Jun they were like smiling because they were planning to do something to him if and while he was struggling to get out of the men's grasp after they got out of the house Yan Jun was surprised that his whole neighborhood was out there greeting him and he had nothing to say cause he was so surprised that he wept out of joy.

  After the party, he went to his grandparent's graves and put new flowers and lit a candle and after he was done there was someone who was waiting for him at the entrance of the cemetery. It was the girl the Xin Wu was with and as the last 5 minutes before Christmas while they were talking and got closer to each other and noticed a mistletoe hanging in the Christmas tree, As they realized that they got embarrassed then got closer then a firework blew up signalling that it was Christmas then shocked them and they were too embarrassed and just walk back to Yan Jun's house with red faces.

"Hi Jon, how are you? I hope you'd call me back." Stephanie Fox left a message on Jon's voicemail. It has been two days since they last spoke on the phone, which was a day after he flew to Los Angeles. They managed to speak everyday before he went to see Cathy. The last time they did was when he got in a quiet room and she asked him, "Are you in a bathroom?" and chuckled when he told her that he was in there since he does not want to awaken Cathy from her sleep. "I wonder why he liked her," she remembered herself speaking to Adriana and Vivian. At the night of the project launch, she had tried to get into Jon's way, but his attention was always a bit inclined towards Cathy. She was a simple assistant, with little to no make up at all, would occasionally dress up on chosen events. "She was a wallflower, how could he be so attracted?" she remembered herself asking the other two ladies on why they think Jon is a lot into Cathy. They all came to a conclusion that maybe it is because she seemed very innocent, that older men would always prefer younger women. 

After leaving the voicemail, she got up from her bed. She slid the door which handle was made of golden metal, walked out into the balcony and spread her arms in front of her, touched the metal railing which was made of wood, and the balcony wall made of glass. She closed her eyes and breathed, then put her right hand on her chest. She opened her eyes, and whispered, "I am going after you, Jonathan Albertson. No matter what." She went back in the room, slid the door closed behind her and dialed a number. "Hi," she said cheerfully. "Yes, please, a ticket to Los Angeles for Stephanie Fox."

Christmas went great for both Cathy and Jon. It was their first time of being together for a whole week, and it was "The best Christmas", as Cathy had told him when they woke up on Christmas day. There was a huge and beautiful Christmas tree on the ground floor of The Orsini, and Cathy did not wait for Jon to take photos. Lee paid them a visit, they all ate at the unit's dining area, as Lee had arranged a small feast for the three of them. They had turkey, red wine, fra diavolo pasta, cheese, chocolate cake which was Cathy's favorite and French onion soup which was Jon's. 

When they were done with lunch, they went to the living to hand over each other their presents. Lee had set up a reading nook by the corner of the living room, adjacent to one of the bedrooms. They sat on the mattress which he had placed on the floor. They took turns in opening the gifts that they received, Lee got a Rolex Submariner Gents watch from Jon, and a blue Karako Suits necktie from Cathy. "I am not expecting this dear, thank you." He gave her a hug, and gave them his gifts. Lee was a man of elegance as he always had been, since his younger years, which is why he was hired by the Albertsons as an assistant. He handed over to Cathy a double chain bracelet with diamond letters that spelled her name, Catie, from David Von. She was so amazed that she hugged him back tightly and thanked him for being such a wonderful man and for always taking good care of her and Jon. Her eyes sparkled as she had never received such an adorable gift in her life. "Thank you, Lee. I don't usually wear things like this but I would love to wear this everyday." Lee smiled at her and then gave Jon an envelope, which contained tickets to the FIFA championship in Germany. Jon looked at Lee, and then at Cathy, with his eyes starting to get red and wet with tears of joy." I,... Thank you, Lee. " The two men hugged, and Lee told him, "I hope you two could go together. I have never seen you so happy with someone, I am glad that you have met this Catie over here." Lee held her hand and told her, "Please take care of him, he is almost a son to me." She smiled back and went on to give Jon her Christmas present. "I know that you can buy anything that you want. My gift is not as expensive, but I.." Jon cut her off and held her chin. "I would love whatever you give me." They both smiled, and as Jon opened the box, a pair of grey Oakley sunglasses surprised him. He gave her a tight hug and a warm kiss on the lips, then told her, "Thank you, my love." He put out a small box, held her hand open and closed her hand with the box in it. She slowly opened it, and almost shouted with amazement. It was a Chanel small classic white flap bag. She took it out the box, felt the shearing lambskin through her fingers, unable to utter a word. It was so beautiful that she could not believe her eyes. Jon asked her, "Did you like it?" She looked up at him, and with tears in her eyes, she replied. "I love it!" She hugged him so tight that he almost could not breathe. The three were so happy that they took group photos, with all of them wearing red sweaters and blue jeans as a holiday theme. There were forty photos in total, taken from Jon's Canon EOS - 1 DS Mark II, and many of those were photos of them opening gifts, hugging and moments that would forever be kept in their hearts.

When Blake and Amy returned to Lake Miranda the week before Christmas, snow blanketed the compound.  After the lake froze solid, and Scotts students either hiked to the island or were shuttled by snowmobile.  

His last session before the holidays ended just before Blake and Amy came home, but the lodge had guests scheduled throughout Christmas and New Years.  Trina and the restaurant staff came up with a festive holiday menu, and Walkers on the Lake was completely booked for both holidays.  

When Jackie called her parents to ask about their holiday plans, she was surprised to find out that the elder Walkers had reservations for a Christmas cruise to the Caribbean.  Your father just couldnt stand the thought of all that snow, Ann laughed.  You all have a wonderful holiday!

Blake and Amy agreed to spend Christmas at Jackie and Scotts house, the better to enjoy the kids excitement on Christmas morning.  The day after they returned, Scott and Blake took Grant and Emma snowmobiling in the forest to find a proper Christmas tree to set up in the window of Scott and Jackies family room.  

  On Christmas Eve, after the kids had gone to bed, the adults gathered around the enormous festively decorated white spruce.  Light Christmas jazz played in the background, and outside the floor to ceiling windows, snow swirled lazily in the half moonlight.  

Jackie handed Amy a mug of warm mulled cider and settled beside her on a leather sofa with a mug of her own.  On the floor, Scott and Blake sat amid the scattered pieces of a pink Barbie house Santa had found on sale months earlier and had put away until now.  

Winking at Amy, Jackie suppressed a smile.  Did you guys read the instructions?

We dont need the damn instructions, Blake huffed, pushing a stray lock of dark hair out of his eyes.  Were two intelligent, grown men.  We can figure out how to put together a dollhouse.

The women clinked their mugs and giggled gleefully.

Amy looked from Blake and Scott to the twinkling Christmas tree, and to Jackie.  I love this.  Her voice was soft, and though she smiled, a tear was in her eye.  This is the Christmas I always wanted.

Jackies heart melted, and she reached for Amys hand.  Im so happy youre here.

Blake pushed up from the floor and pressed a tender kiss to Amys temple.  This is our life, kitten.  This is our family, your family.  You belong here.  

Jackie smiled across the room at Scott, who winked at her, and she felt a familiar tummy flutter.  She loved the man more than shed thought humanly possible.  And when summer came, shed marry him.  

After Blake and Amy retired to the guest room, Scott and Jackie went to bed, quietly making love, then holding each other until late into the night.  

They awoke to a bright sunny day, the sky crystal cerulean, the sun reflecting brilliantly off the sparkling snow.  Emma and Grant squealed excitedly as they saw the mountain of gifts under the tree.  Scott sat at the end of the sofa and Jackie snuggled up beside him, each of them sipping steaming mugs of coffee.  Blake and Amy sat opposite them on the sofas twin, smiling as they watched the children tearing into their gifts.

Once they were finished, the kids had fun delivering gifts to the adults.  Finally, all the gifts were opened.  Blake and Amy gave each other a conspiratorial look.  We have a few more gifts, Amy said.

More? Jackie echoed, thinking of the extravagant handbag for her, and the top of the line boots for Scott.  Youve done so much already, seriously.

Blake reached behind the sofa and picked up four identical shirt boxes wrapped in metallic red paper.  He glanced at the tags and handed one to each of the children and to Jackie and Scott.

Amy leaned forward excitedly.  You have to open them all together.  Ready?  One, two, three!

With a bemused glance at Scott, Jackie carefully opened her box.  Grant and Emma ripped theirs open.  Its a shirt, Emma said, holding up a pink t-shirt.  

Grant peered into the box.  Thanks, Aunt Amy, he said, making an effort to sound enthused about a shirt.  It sure ispink.

Scott tilted his head as he looked at his, then elbowed Jackie lightly.  She looked at his, then gaped at hers.  In sparkling letters across pink cotton, she read, Worlds Greatest Aunt.

Jackie gasped.  I knew it!  I knew you were pregnant!  Im so excited for you! she squealed, rushing over to give Amy and Blake a big hug.

 We didnt want to tell anyone until we knew everything was going to be okay, Amy explained.  

Cool, Grant said, pulling his new shirt over his head, were going to be cousins!

Aunt Amy, are you having a boy baby or a girl baby? Emma asked.

Blake grinned.  Its a little girl.  Thats why we gave you pink shirts.

Congratulations, man!  Scott grinned as Blake stood and the two embraced.  Thats great news.

I cant believe it.  He shook his head.  Im going to be a dad.

Jackie sank onto the sofa beside Amy.  A little girl, she shook her head smiling.  Thats fantastic.

Amy nodded, eyes shining.  Do you want to see the ultrasound pictures?

Ill get them, Blake said, heading in the direction of the guest room.

Grant and Emma returned to their new toys.  Scott perched on the arm of the sofa next to Jackie.  Im so happy for you two, he told Amy.  She laughed happily.  

From the direction of the guest room, they heard a tiny yip.  Jackie frowned.  What was that?

Eyes wide, Amy gave an exaggerated shrug.  I have no idea.

Uh oh, Blake called from the guest room.  I think I found another present.

Jackie looked up to see a shaggy black puppy with a huge red bow come running into the room.  He ran straight to the kids, yipping excitedly.

A puppy, Emma squealed.

Grant squinted at the tag on the big red bow and gasped.  Mom!  Its for us, from Santa!

Blake leaned against the doorway looking pleased with himself.  

From Santa, huh?

I think Grandma and Grandpa might have mentioned it to the big guy, Blake grinned.

Oh, for f Jackie glanced up at Scott.  Did you know about this?

He raised his hands in surrender.  I promise, I knew nothing about a puppy.

They love Bear so much, they need one of their own, Amy said, smiling.

So, what are you going to name him? Blake asked.

Brow furrowed, Grant watched the Newfie puppy for a moment.  Max.  He looks like a Max to me.

Ruffling the puppys ears, Emma nodded enthusiastically.  Yeah.  Max.

Jackie shook her head.  Hes cute, Ill give you that.  But I still want to see those ultrasound pictures of my niece.
