CHAPTER 352

THEORY OF EVERYTHING

 

A quaint little street, decorated with hanging roses and brick-cast buildings, stretched in a faint arc around a spiral-shaped pothole descending into an underground labyrinth of tunnels. Ever so often light flickered inside one of the windows, chimneys on top of the coral-colored roofs spitting out black soot and smoke, cradling the entire street in a repulsive yet strangely welcoming scent.

The street was a home to many-a-hanging-signs, be it of wood or metal, hand-carved, depicting one sigil or another, hanging directly over the closed doors. Some of the buildings had wide window displays where a slew of shiny things glistened beneath the lights of gems and crystals embedded above the stand.

At the far-end corner, tucked in-between two much larger buildings looming over it, was a small smithy with only a single floor. It had but two windows, one on each break, and it seemed eerily out of place in the otherwise glowing surroundings. A simple sign hung above, a hammer superimposed over the sun carved onto the wooden board, fluttering faintly in the passing wind.

Insides, however, roared; sounds of hammers, shouts, fizzling flames and clashing metals cast together a pleasant, grating symphony of sounds that welcomed each unsuspecting newcomer. The smithy itself was stuffed behind the counter on the ground floor, with the remaining floor being dedicated for item display. Behind the counter, Edward was currently reading a book underneath the light of a gem embedded in the side wall, seemingly entirely oblivious to the sounds.

On the other hand, two young lads sitting on the solitary bench by the door had a much harder time coming to grips with their loud reality; Ion and Ryt sat on the bench, frowning, their hands plastered over their ears. They certainly could have endured a few minutes of this, yet it has been going on for hours now; they were tasked with acting the role of guards, and no matter the challenges, they were determined to fulfill their role. Leaving, however, was growing to be incredibly tempting.

On the floor above, hidden away behind one of the displays, was a small room hoisting a bed, a table, a chair, a bookshelf and a singular window looking out into the street. Lino was currently plastered next to it, humming a low tune as he absentmindedly stared at the passing souls down below. His eyes seemed dull, unfocused, yet his mind was reeling.

It has been nearly a week since the black fire broke out in the auction house, and though chatter reigned over the streets, there were no official reports released. A day after the fire broke out, he was contacted by the House of Gold and informed that they'd do everything in their power to retrieve his stolen items -- and if impossible, they promised they would pay him a full price as a form of reimbursement.

Lino didn't really care over the loss of items as much as the fact that the last one never got sold, and the item being sold into the right hands played a large role in his upcoming plans. He was half a mind away from starting his own investigation into the matter to uncover who took all the items and give them a good beating, but he held back in the end. Though his plans have been disrupted slightly, it wasn't as though it was impossible for him to craft another item like it, or at least similar enough to do its job.

Sighing faintly as he pulled himself out of the thoughts, he glanced down at the book in front of him that the house had sent him as an apology -- 'The Book of Wars: Abridged, as recorded by Ed Alric'. It was the original edition, preserved splendidly Lino had to admit; it was a rather thick book, over two thousand pages long, depicting a brief history of wars since the first War of the Four Races. Though it wasn't exactly helpful for his current predicament, it was still quite a learning experience altogether, especially when it came to his understanding of Angels, Devils and perhaps most-importantly, Gods.

Closing the book, he stretched lazily and yawned, taking out a bottle of ale and a cup and pouring himself one. The liquid revived his parched throat, soon giving him a wake-up kick of sorts as he felt energy gush out of his guts. Just as he was about to get up and leave, the doors to the room swung open as Ion and Ryt strut through in concert. They quickly bowed down before stepping up, handing Lino a parchment.

"What's this?" he asked, taking it.

"A man came to see you, Master," Ryt replied quickly. "He said you would certainly see him once you looked through the paper."

"... 's that so?" Lino mumbled with faint interest as he glanced down; one look was enough for him to realize that the plans drawn up on the paper were more than just strange -- he firmly believed they were impossible. It depicted a winged sort of a box, elongated from front to back, slightly bulged toward the center. Upon the stretching wings on each side were two more cylindrical objects, with fan-like shapes drawn up inside of them. "Walk him in." Lino mumbled, smiling faintly; he'd seen many strange flying objects used as a transportation, but all of them -- without exception -- were only capable of flight because of the intricate string of arrays attached to them. Object drawn in front of him, however, didn't have a single array drawn up anywhere.

Soon after Ryt and Ion left, a man walked through the small doors. Glancing at him, Lino quickly realized he was no Human; a tall, bridged brow with bushy eyebrows looming over full-brown eyes blending over into a thin nose and lips, both surrounded by pronounced cheekbones and encapsulated by a wide, squared jaw. To top it off, the man's skin color was that of dull ash and rock, with spot-marks repeating in strange patterns from time to time.

"... a God?" Lino mumbled, his lips curling up into a faint smile. The man walked up briskly and evenly, nodding lightly in a greeting. He wore a strange ensamble of clothes, with a black, leather trench-coat draped over a cotton vest and a shirt, with brown pants tucked into knee-high black boots. "Well, I'll be damned. Or canonized. Depending on the religious scripture, I suppose."

"Good day," the man said, smiling faintly as well. "Thank you for agreeing to see me."

"Well, you've thrown a rather compelling case at me," Lino said, flashing the parchment briefly. "So, what can I do for you, o' ye mighty God?"

"Liberate us, o' ye mighty Empyrean." the man said, cracking a wide smile to counteract Lino's shocked expression. It's not as though he believed absolutely no one was capable of seeing through his disguise, but it was on the pretense that they actually first meet; this man seemed to already know well before who he was, which piqued Lino's curiosity by quite a bit. He wasn't particularly fearful, as if the man had athwart intentions, he wouldn't have visited him in the first place.

"... many eyes, many sights indeed," Lino recovered quickly, smiling back and whipping out another cup and pouring it before pulling out another chair and indicating that the man sit down, which he did rather quickly. "I must say, the girl responsible for my disguise would most-likely die of shame if she ever found out I was seen through, so let's keep this between ourselves."

"Naturally," the man said, taking the cup and toasting Lino. "I am not here to seek trouble, but help."

"What do the mighty Gods need my help for?" Lino asked. "I'm fairly decent at telling indecent stories, but I'm quite lost when it comes to hymns and such I'm afraid."

"Ha ha, thank you for the offer, but as I said, we are seeking you to Liberate us," the man said. "As for what that means, I'm afraid I cannot divulge; after all, I'm a sole man, and a lot of others didn't take to my idea kindly."

"So, let me guess, you need me to come with you and charm them?"

"Something like that, yes."

"What's your name?" Lino asked.

"Tim."

"What's this, Tim?" Lino pointed at the parchment on the table, not refusing the request just yet.

"It's a design," Tim replied. "For a flying vehicle that doesn't require arrays to fly the skies."

"Yes, I can see that," Lino chuckled. "One of you certainly has a wild imagination."

"Hardly so," Tim said. "We've already built several dozens of them. As the matter of fact, I've traveled here in a vehicle similar to that one."

"... I can't believe my help is this cheap." Lino sighed as he put away the parchment, causing Tim to chuckle. "I imagine this is just a pre-course, right?"

"Precisely." Tim nodded. "If it all goes by my wishes, you'll not only have our gratitude and support in the upcoming Wars, but also an array of whimsical wonders the rest of the world is entirely blind to."

"Those are big promises Tim," Lino said. "I read that the Gods were quite vain, but even still, to claim to be in solitary possession of something..."

"It's not vanity, Lord Empyrean," Tim said. "Merely a fact. You will understand it better once you visit us and understand our circumstances."

"... aren't you afraid I'm just gonna go nuts and decide to take everything for myself without helping you?" Lino quizzed with a wry smile.

"At this point? It's a good as an end as any other." Tim replied with a bitter smile, causing Lino to simmer down and think for a moment.

"... recently, a lot of people are more than happy to throw their grand names behind my banner," he said after a few seconds of silence. "Rather, they seem to be doing it with joyous hearts. And while I'd be more than happy to credit my irresistible charms, I'm afraid even I'm not that egotistical. Can you enlighten me, Tim?"

"..." the man seemed to suddenly fall into a deep, internal struggle over something as Lino quieted down, silently sipping the drink and awaiting Tim's response. "Are you familiar with the term Origin Wars?"

"... yes." Lino replied, his expression turning serious.

"Though grand-sounding, the term is actually fairly grounded and simple," Tim continued, taking a deep breath. "It encompasses four stages of warring -- Continental Wars, Realm Wars, Gaia Wars and Primordial Wars."

"..."

"In essence, they refer to the scale of the wars; with your killing of Bearer of Light, we had entered the stage of Gaia Wars." Tim continued. "And, all the latest indicators call toward the transition into the Primordial Wars, which are marked largely by the fact that all larger factions, may they be racial, bloodbound, oath-bound and so on, are involved in a conflict on some scale."

"..." Lino continued to listen to the explanation patiently, waiting for the conclusion.

"Past the Primordial Wars, we have Origin Wars; there is no clear indicator for when the Origin Wars begin, but, in the past, they were usually started either by your ancestors, or by an emerging Race. For instance, Skyhaven Dynasty initiated Origin Wars during the era in order to conquer the world. The wars lasted for nearly four million years altogether, but it's practically impossible to pinpoint as to when exactly the Origin-scaled conflict ended."

"..."

"Truth is, however, that you were born into an age of destruction," Tim continued, taking a sip and catching his breath. "I've a feeling that, with or without you, we would have once again entered the Origin Wars. Your entrance only changed the timeline of it all. Are you familiar with the Theory of Everything?"

"... no." Lino shook his head, replying honestly, his interest at an all-time high.

"It's the penultimate framework describing everything," Tim explained. "The ends and the beginnings and the processes in-between. Anyway, one branch under it deals with the so-called Inevitable Infinity; during the early years of my race's existence, we focused largely on understanding how nature works. We fell short, unfortunately, by the end, but we did learn some things, and among them is that nature is enumerated through repetitive patterns -- and all living beings existing within the same framework are not immune to it, meaning that we inherently gravitate toward repeating tales-already-happened. What this all entails is that each event, no matter how large or small, has an interval set of preceding events that act as a building block for it; for instance, the Realm Wars stage of the wars began with your Awakening, but Continental Wars have been ongoing for nearly four million years now. In a pattern excluding you, the further build-up would have been slow, but consistent. You are merely a variable injected into the equation to speed things up."

"... aaand there goes a headache." both Tim and Lino chuckled for a moment as the former took another quick sip to fix his parched throat. "Kinda sucks being told your role in the grand scheme of things is irrelevant."

"... come with me," Tim suddenly said. "And, perhaps, you'll get to know just how irrelevant it truly is."

"... ah, very well," Lino raised his arms in defeat. "I suppose it makes me somewhat of a masochist, wanting to learn why I don't matter... at all. But, joy and happiness is for losers anyway. Lead the way Tim. Lead the way to the liberty of this self-importance."

As he walked around the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository, what he saw was a giant city.
An empire of books!
Many of the books gave birth to their own consciousness. They had their own hands, legs, and features and could speak. When they spoke to one another, they seemed really polite and knowledgeable.
It totally shocked Li Xiandao and opened up a whole new perception of the world to him.
Li Xiandao's arrival shocked them and two of them surrounded him. 
"It is a human!"
"It is a human. 10,000 years have passed, so has the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository finally been opened?"
"Is he our new Master?"
"That might not be the case. Let's take a look at the situation."
There were tens of millions of books in this empire. The entire mountain was dug out and there were a full 100 levels. Li Xiandao's arrival attracted their attention right away.
At that moment, everyone gathered together to look at Li Xiandao.
"I am your new Master!" Li Xiandao looked at them and was unafraid. He said confidently.
"You are our new Master?" A book that was wrapped in ice asked.
It must have been an ice element technique!
"Yes, I am the new Master of the Bank of the Universe and also your new Master." Li Xiandao nodded his head.
"Has the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository been unsealed?" A slightly yellow book with badly damaged edges asked.
Li Xiandao smiled, "Yes. I have redeemed the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository. From today on, you all can head out of the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository to play around the Bank of the Universe."
The moment he said this, many of the books started to excitedly show off their skills. 
Ice element books froze a region, allowing everyone to ski.
Some fire element books spat out flames which melted the ice, causing it to rain down on the dry roads.
Some wind element books caused a gentle breeze.
The other different element books were all dancing happily, showing off their joy and elation.
Li Xiandao looked at them carefully and didn't disturb them. He realized that out of the tens of millions of books, only 10,000 of them gave birth to their own consciousness; it was a really low ratio.
These books with minds of their own became members of the empire, each having their own homes. They studied and some even started to date, to marry, and think about how to give birth to new books.
These books lived and played around in the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository without any worry at all. They celebrated Li Xiandao becoming their new Master, dancing and singing to welcome him.
Li Xiandao looked at how happy they were and his mood instantly improved. 
This was a new race with no worries at all!
After they were done celebrating, Li Xiandao asked, "Is there a manager here?"
"Yes, the Ten Books of Heaven were the 10 managers before us." One book answered.
"Ten Books of Heaven?" Li Xiandao asked curiously.
"They were the 10 books that Shi Xiong created a long time ago." An old book coughed and replied.
"Shi Xiong?" Li Xiandao didn't understand anything that was being said.
After all, he had transmigrated and was a servant after he appeared in this world. Thus, he knew little about the world; one could even say that he knew nothing.
Shi Xiong created the Ten Books of Heaven a long time ago. The 10 were: Eternal Heaven Book, Book of Taixu, Book of Time, Book of War, Source Dao Book, Death Records, Moral Scroll, Book of Disaster, Guarding against Feelings, and Light of the Gods." The old book added.
Li Xiandao listened and didn't say a word.
"These 10 books were collectively regarded as the Ten Books of Heaven. The meaning of which was simple; if you get one, you will be able to fight against the heavens and compete against the earth." The old book explained.
Li Xiandao understood and asked, "Then, where are the Ten Books of Heaven now?"
"Nine were loaned out and only the Book of War is left in the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository." The old book sighed.
"Where is the Book of War?" Li Xiandao asked right away.
He looked around and didn't notice the tracks of the Book of War.
"It is sleeping. Last time after the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository was sealed, no one could enter and we couldn't go out.
It fell asleep and told us to wake it up when the Ten Thousand Country Book Depository was open." The old book said.
Li Xiandao was stunned and didn't expect that the Book of War had such a personality.
"Where is it now?" Li Xiandao asked.
"The highest floor. It slept for 10,000 years and you can go wake it up now." The old book said.
Li Xiandao nodded his head, "Go do your own things. I will head up to wake it up. As for your daily routines, just stick to what you are doing. I won't disrupt your way of life."
Those books, who were used to such a way of life, were at ease when they heard it. Their respect and impression of Li Xiandao improved greatly. 
Li Xiandao didn't want to revolutionalize this place and enact strict rules on them.
After all, they were just a bunch of books that had minds of their own!
They had their own consciousness. After years of studying, evolution, and reading other books, they were far stronger than Li Xiandao.
Even if Li Xiandao had the all-knowing talent, he didn't really know everything. He needed people to guide him.
Only with someone guiding would he be able to learn quickly.
He said goodbye to the books and walked to the highest floor.
There was only one platform and a book laid was laid on it. It was a really thick book and there was only one huge word written on it. 
War!
The moment Li Xiandao saw it, he felt like he was sucked into it.
He saw endless wars!
He saw the sadness of corpses!
He saw the tragedy of rivers made of blood!
He saw the catastrophe of families being broken up!
He saw how terrifying war was!
He also saw how amazing the Book of War was!
In just a short moment, Li Xiandao saw many wars that took place from ancient times till now!
This book was made up of those many different wars!
The Book of War was unlike the other books that showed their hands and legs. It was just a book that laid there silently.
If he hadn't seen the books that had their own minds previously, Li Xiandao wouldn't believe that the Book of War would give birth to its own consciousness.
He picked it up and asked caringly, "Have you woken up?"
The Book of War didn't move at all!
Li Xiandao flipped it open and he saw a bunch of words. 
Li Xiandao didn't even blink and activated the talent, using his omnipotent ability.
He quickly comprehended the techniques within the book.
Any book that could be called a Heaven Book had to be overpowered.
The Book of War was no exception.
If one cultivated it successfully, one's aura would be like that of an army. The more one fought, the stronger one would get. War songs would also be able to heal one's injuries.
One would be in the perpetual motion of fighting wars!
Li Xiandao's first thought wasn't to cultivate it himself, but to give it to the mini Flame Kings!
There were 10,000 of them and if all of them cultivated it, they would never have to stop fighting!
The Book of War had a larger buff to armies compared to that of an individual.
Just as Li Xiandao was looking at it, a person was suddenly floating behind his back!


Li Xiandao obtained the ancient Bank of the Universe, but the bank was now totally empty and there were no treasures at all. The only thing it held: a bunch of debts.
The Eternal Celestial King borrowed a supreme celestial artifact, promising to pay it back in two pieces in 3,000 years. He will pay an additional piece for every 1,000 years after the expiry date!
Moon Celestial loaned a high-quality face, to be returned in 10,000 years. If overdue, she will pay with her life!
Time Immemorial Sage loaned 10,000 years in life from the Bank of the Universe in order to break through. After he breaks through, he will pay back 10,000 years. If late, he must pay back 10 times the amount!
Li Xiandao looked at these debts and at the empty Bank of the Universe. He made his mind up to become a true expert, to find all these supreme beings to get back the overdue debts one by one!
A powerless mortal had became the biggest creditor in the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands and even the entire Celestial World!

Friday: Shinobi - The rise of the demon Hyûga -> A new fanfiction that I have on the side for a while. The guideline of the story has already been written, all that remains is to start the series. At the end of Naruto Shippuden, I thought I would move on to another manga universe without knowing yet which one and come back to Boruto later when the anime is more advanced. (I still need to change the tags in the description and the description ^^)

“Sovereign, what must I do in order to go participate in the Planar Wars?” Linley raised his head and asked.

The Chief Sovereign of Death said calmly, “The ‘Purgatory’ of the Infernal Realm or the ‘Tartarus’ of the Netherworld all have interspatial doors that lead directly to the Planar Battlefield. The Planar Battlefield is connected to all seven of the Divine Planes and all four of the Higher Realms. Hurry up and come up with a way of going to my Netherworld’s Tartarus. By travelling through the interspatial gate, you’ll arrive at the Planar Battlefield!”

Linley frowned.

Tartarus?

The book which Beirut had given him regarding the Netherworld hadn’t mentioned a ‘Tartarus’ region. Actually, it was the same for the Infernal Realm’s books; there had been no mention of a ‘Purgatory’.

“Sovereign, might I ask where Tartarus…” Linley was about to speak out.

“Hmph.” The Chief Sovereign of Death waved her hand.

Immediately, a very thin book covered in black light flew down, landing in front of Linley. The Chief Sovereign of Death stared down at Linley and said, “Since you have the courage to go to the Planar Battlefield, then I too am interested in seeing…if you, Linley, will survive to kill some commanders, or if you will be killed by other commanders who will then be rewarded for it!”

Linley wasn’t angry at all. Accepting the book, he bowed slightly. “Thank you, Sovereign.”

And then, Linley immediately began to flip through the book. The book was very thin, just ten pages long. Given Linley’s memory, all he needed to do was sweep through it with a few glances. A few seconds later, the contents of these ten pages were imprinted deep within his mind.

“So this Tartarus is deep within the Nether Sea?” Linley couldn’t help but raise his head to look towards the Chief Sovereign of Death.

It was too far away!

If he wished to go to Tartarus, he would first have to completely leave the Netherworld’s continent and enter the Nether Sea, then venture deep into the Nether Sea before reaching Tartarus. If he rode on a metallic lifeform and hurried forward, he would probably need three centuries or so. This took up far too much time, and…even if he hurried there, the Planar Wars might have concluded already. He couldn’t accept this.

“Sovereign, how long will the Planar Wars go on for.” Linley asked hurriedly.

The Chief Sovereign of Death said calmly, “Each Planar Wars goes on for a thousand years! This time, the battle between the Divine Light Realm and the Divine Darkness Realm has already gone on for nearly a hundred years. More than nine centuries remain. You have plenty of time to go!”

Plenty?

There was more than enough time to take part in the war, but Linley didn’t wish to waste any time. The more time he wasted, the greater the danger his father and brothers were in of dying a final death. In addition, the more time he took, the more of the weaker commanders would die in the Planar Wars. By the time he arrived, most likely the surviving commanders would be the exceedingly powerful ones.

Such as Beirut…Dunnington…Reisgem…Mosi….

The images of these figures appeared in Linley’s mind!

“Sovereign, then Bebe and I will head out immediately.” Linley said, bowing.

Bebe had to swallow his discontent and bow before leaving as well.

“Go then.” The Chief Sovereign of Death said calmly. “But I advise you that before heading to Tartarus, you should first become a Lord of Tartarus. That will also be very helpful to you in actually entering the Planar Wars. Arthurs, you lead the way for Linley. Send them out of the Abyssal Mountain!”

“Yes, Sovereign!” Arthurs bowed.

“First become a Lord of Tartarus, and then enter the Planar Wars?” Linley was rather puzzled.

But Linley didn’t ask any more questions. Linley and Bebe looked meaningfully at Bailey in an expression of goodwill, and then strode out of the Sovereign’s palace, following Arthurs and flying away.

“Mistress, that Linley seems to be quite confident. It seems he knows almost nothing about the Planar Wars.” By now, the silver serpent Yennaway was all smiles, quite delighted. Yennaway knew a great deal regarding the savagery of the Planar Wars, and the struggles between the commanders. In addition, this was a war! Not a one-on-one duel!

Sometimes, multiple commanders of one side would join forces to attack another!

“Thank you, Sovereign.” The silver serpent, Yennaway, laughed while bowing. She believed that the Sovereign had done this for the sake of letting Linley go and lose his life there as a way of helping Yennaway get revenge.

“Thank you, Sovereign.” The colossal gold snake and his nine children all bowed in gratitude as well.

The Chief Sovereign of Death glanced calmly at them. “Enough. You can all leave now. Bailey!”

Bailey’s eyes lit up, and he hurriedly walked forward to the center of the palace. The Chief Sovereign of Death finally was going to allow him to become an Emissary.

At the base of the Abyssal Mountain.

Linley and Bebe parted with Arthurs.

“Linley, before leaving, I must tell you something.” Arthurs said solemnly. “Perhaps you aren’t aware of this, but the Sovereigns all have an agreement. At most, they will give their Emissaries or their children a single Sovereign artifact! Regardless of which Sovereign’s Emissary it is, they will at most receive a single Sovereign artifact.”

“A single one?” Bebe frowned.

Linley was stunned. “Just one?”

But yes, that was indeed true!

For example, the Azure Dragon clan’s Patriarch, Gislason, only had a soul-protecting Sovereign artifact. The Grand Elder, Gaia, only had that armor-type Sovereign artifact that merged with her scales. Given how much the Sovereign Azure Dragon cared about his children, why would he give them just a single one each? Linley finally began to understand.

“The Sovereigns don’t wish for too great of an imbalance to appear amongst Highgods either.” Arthurs explained. “If, hypothetically, a Highgod not only had an armor-type Sovereign artifact that merged into his body, but also a soul-protecting Sovereign artifact and an attack-type Sovereign artifact, then tell me…even if this sort of Highgod was weak in terms of understanding the Laws, wouldn’t he be terrifying?”

Linley was stunned.

If one’s material defense, soul defense, and attack power was all powered by Sovereign artifacts! This sort of person would indeed be monstrous.

“That’d…be invincible.” Bebe muttered.

“Supreme experts who acquire one Sovereign artifact will naturally desire a second one! But Sovereigns can’t just give them one. But if they want to kill an Emissary and seize the Sovereign artifact…even if you kill the Emissary and the Sovereign doesn’t deign to lower himself to killing you in retaliation, the Sovereign will still take back his artifact!” Arthurs said.

“What? Take it back?” Bebe stared, wide-eyed.

Linley felt surprised as well.

Still, it made sense.

Each Sovereign artifact was the product of countless labors of a Sovereign, who then gave it to an Emissary. Not avenging the death of an Emissary was one thing, but how could they not take back their artifact?

“Thus, if you want to acquire a Sovereign artifact without being obstructed by a Sovereign, there’s only one method; to participate in the Planar Wars, and to have accomplishments in battle! If you kill ten commanders, you’ll be able to trade for a Sovereign artifact you want. If you kill twenty, you can trade for two!” Arthurs said.

“Arthurs, are you saying…” Linley frowned.

Arthurs said seriously, “The more powerful a person is, the more one seeks perfection! The Planar Wars only happen once every trillion years! Some supreme experts who, because of their prowess in battle, have obtained a second Sovereign artifact will then wish to acquire a third one. These experts are extremely powerful! Thus, you must be extremely careful. You cannot be the slightest bit incautious. There might even be Highgod Paragons amongst them! After all, although they have perfected their mastery of the Laws, they might not have a perfect set of Sovereign artifacts!”

Linley had a sour taste in his mouth.

This was completely understandable. If he were to have become a Highgod Paragon, he too would then desire to simultaneously wield three Sovereign artifacts! If he went to participate in the Planar Wars and encountered this sort of freakishly powerful individual, he wouldn’t be able to fight back at all.

“These people are too greedy.” Bebe felt frightened as well.

“It isn’t greed, it is desire!” Arthurs laughed calmly. “Only by having a desire will one have the motivation to move towards that goal! For those who have reached the peak…which one of them didn’t have a firm goal in mind? Which one of them didn’t have a desire? Everyone who can roam about in the Planar Wars is a supreme expert, the true kings of battle! Although I am a Sovereign’s Emissary, I haven’t participated in the Planar Wars a single time. That place…is a slaughter field! The place where experts fall! But also the place where experts are born!”

Linley shook his head and laughed.

“Haha…Arthurs, thank you for telling me these things. I’m mentally prepared now.” Linley laughed.

“Don’t worry.” Bebe said. “If someone wishes to kill my brother, we’ll first have to see if he’s qualified to do so! When my Boss and I simultaneously use our innate divine abilities…hmph!”

Arthurs glanced at Linley and Bebe.

“Just remember! It’s not just the two of you who have innate divine abilities. In the vast, myriad planes, there are quite a few other unique divine beasts who also possess extremely terrifying divine abilities. The others who have reached the pinnacle without a divine ability also have their own powers to rely on.” Arthurs chuckled. “Alright, I’ll say no more. I wish the two of you good luck.”

“Thank you.”

Linley and Bebe immediately bade Arthurs farewell, then transformed into two rays of light, flying away into the distance.

From the Abyssal Mountain to Tartarus, the distance truly was too great. After flying for some time, Linley said apologetically, “Bebe, if we ride the metallic lifeform to Tartarus, we’ll probably need two or three centuries. I don’t have any time to waste, so…I’ve decided to fly forward at full speed on my own power. I’m going to have to ask you to fly with me.”

“Haha, I love flying anyhow.” Bebe understood what Linley was thinking.

It would be rather tiring and taxing on his spiritual energy to whole-heartedly fly forward at high speed, especially on such a long journey. Very few people would rely on their own bodies to fly. It was indeed much faster to fly on one’s own, and one would travel far faster than a metallic lifeform, true, but it was too tiring. Still…what Linley needed right now was time. This was his only choice.

“Crackle…” Linley instantly Dragonformed.

And then, activating the Laws of the Wind, Linley flew towards the northern skies like an azure streak of light. If he were to fly at full speed, Linley would outstrip even Bebe, but Linley also used his divine wind power to help Bebe slightly.

“Boss, have you told this to my grandpa yet?” Bebe asked while flying.

“My divine fire clone has already gone to the Forest of Darkness to ask your grandpa. We will have some results soon. I don’t know what your grandpa will say.” Linley wasn’t confident about this journey either. Fortunately, his divine fire clone remained in the Yulan continent, and so he could go ask Beirut about this.

Moments later…

“Your grandpa has a reply for us.” Linley said.

“What did he say?” Bebe immediately asked. “He should allow us to participate in the Planar Wars, right? Actually, it doesn’t matter even if he refuses. He isn’t in the Netherworld.”

“Your grandpa agreed.” Linley chuckled. “Based on what your grandpa said…we need to be careful and not be greedy. He also said that you, Bebe, should go experience some real danger and so hopefully gain some insights. This would be of assistance to you in improving your understandings of the profound mysteries of the Laws.” Linley still remembered the tone in which Beirut spoke.

According to what Beirut had said…

Men were supposed to adventure. If they were always hiding and afraid of danger, it would be very hard for them to be successful.

“Right. Grandpa has already done enough for me. It’s time for me to work hard.” Bebe pursed his lips.

An azure streak of light flashed through the skies of the Netherworld, travelling at such speed that no bandits who saw them would dare to stop them. Even if they were hotheaded, they still wouldn’t dare to stop them, nor would they be able to catch them.

“Rumble…” A vast, endless sea of water was undulating slightly. Staring into this deep, fathomless sea was like staring at a titanic, man-eating beast.

This was the Nether Sea! The Nether Sea which was even greater than the Infernal Realm’s ‘Chaotic Sea’!

Suddenly…

A streak of azure light flashed past the skies above the sea, then in the blink of an eye disappeared from sight.

“Boss, we’re almost at the Tartarus region.” Bebe said.

“Based on the islands we saw earlier, we’ll need just a bit more time before arriving at Tartarus.” Linley couldn’t help but feel much better as well. After having flown at full speed for more than thirty years, Linley’s original body hadn’t rested at all for those thirty years. Fortunately, he was able to withstand this sort of exhaustion.

And in the past thirty years, Linley’s divine clones were all focused on training. However, in thirty short years, his power didn’t improve that much.

Fortunately, the soul-protecting Sovereign artifact, which had the ‘bandage’ over the flaw be broken through by the colossal golden snake, had been re-repaired quite a bit, after thirty years of effort.

“Boss, look! An island!” Bebe called out jubilantly.

Linley looked over, and saw that extremely far in the distance, land could be seen. “We’ve finally reached Tartarus!”

But that is not what is shown, instead I walk on the ash-covered ground. Trees are burning. Cities are obliterated to nothingness. The sun can't even penetrate the radiation clouds covering the earth, the sound of massive shells pounding the earth can be heard in the distance as spaceships move in. This is not Europe we remember, nor is it the beautiful earth as we know it, it is literally hell on earth. This is the last war, the most destructive war in our history, no one can escape the clutches of the blooming fires of war, there is no neutral, there is no good or bad guy, there is just me vs them...
It is World War Three.  

''Sir, the enemy 3rd Mechanized army is moving in from the North how should we respond?'' an Oberst came on his hoverbike to me giving a paper report. 

Weak radios can't penetrate the jamming mites both parties have thrown in the air, only strong Radio emitters can blaze a path through it. ''I shall take the 2nd Panzer Army to head up North to confront them, use the 182nd Airborne Battalion to cut off their supply lines, make the 46th Mechanized Army of the South move in from the left flank while our 6th Royal Navy will bombard them from the sea.'' I made some quick orders.

 I have seen many wars, old world wars, wars where destructive magic existed, wars in the shadows, I have seen it all. But this... this is a war that even disgusts me. The Orders were quickly relayed, I hopped onto my personal tank.
''MOVEEE OUT!'' I shouted, and immediately the 2nd panzer division started to move with ever increasing speed to intercept the enemy's Mechanized army.

 Suddenly a massive Siren sounded from the distance in the east, ''NOOOO!'' I shouted but it was too late the siren came too late.

 A flash came with a few seconds later a massive sonic boom, a Nuclear bomb detonated close by, ''NO NO NO!'' I shouted, to the east was a refugee camp we set up to help those in need, but they nuked it outright, ''SAVAGES!'' Commanders shouted in their tanks as their eyes turned bloodshot. 

With a crazed mind, we advanced, eventually we didn't even need any strategy. The tank crews were so mad that they fought even when their tank was almost obliterated, when the system sounded to get out, when fire started in the tanks, no matter what, these men still shot shell after shell after shell and in less than 10 minutes make the enemy Mechanized army vanish from the earth. 
Blood was everywhere, I thought I'll get used to the sight of it, but war is never kind. Even after 100 years, when I, no we should have died it still raged on and I still cannot account for the deaths it has caused. 

The year is 2115, on January the 27th, refugee camp Nova was hit by a 50 Megaton Nuclear bomb, destroying everything in a 50km radius, killing the 10 million refugees. As of now the current population of earth stands at 790 Million, which of 100 Million are active Personnel, 400 Million are in bunkers and 290 Million are Hiding around the globe.

''This is WAR! THIS IS A WAR WE MUST WIN!'' I shouted at the men in the Command Centre, 

''SIR! THE TRANSPORTATION DEVICE IS OPERATIONAL! WE ARE READY TO LAUNCH OPERATION XAVIER!'' The commander-in-chief of the army shouted. 

I nodded, ''For every man you kill, for every woman becoming a widow, for every child becoming an orphan, for every city you obliterate, I shall return it to you, A HUNDRED FOLD IF NEED BE, YOU HAVE STEPPED UPON THE DRAGON'S TAIL, WE HAVE LIVED THROUGH TWO WORLD WARS! WE STAND STRONG AND DO NOT FALTER. WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF EARTH!'' I first muttered before shouting it out loud, 

''OOH RAH!'' The men in the Command Centre saluted.

''Men prepare for the Invasion, I hereby declare unrestricted warfare on their planet. Nukes, Chemical weapons, Biological, WMDs, I DO NOT CARE, Flamethrowers, Napalm bombs, Neutron Bombs, you name it! If it causes destruction, USE IT!'' I shouted angrily. 

The year is 2115, on July 4th, the Nations of Earth have started their uniform Invasion of their enemies Timeline, The Battle which will decide the winner and loser shall be fought there. The Outcome is Unknown. 
But to know why this has occurred in the first place we must go through timelines, through the history of not only our own but others as well...

This has been written when I already Published Chapter 82, 
To my Dear Readers, I first off all thank you for using a bit of your time to read the 1st chapter to see if this is something for you. This is my very first book and also my own wild fantasy, I have always had since I started reading books. I have noticed that from ALL the books I have read on Qidian and other sites the Number of Novels which are set in WW2 or WW1 and focus on an organisation or Nation is minimal(In those periods, the book which inspired me was: Battle of the Third Reich). Hence I have taken it Upon Myself to start writing this Novel, It will be a long ride, and I am not thinking of stopping anytime soon. The Plot has been developed already, I will tell my Readers only a few things regarding the book that you need to know before you start reading:

1. My book will most likely have only a semi-happy ending
2. My book will have in either Arc 3 or 4 a Timeline which will not be set in the past of our timeline like the previous Two. But Set in a more Mythical setting, a place where Guns meet Magic. This Will only be ONE Arc, so even if you do not enjoy it I will make a separate chapter at the Beginning of ARC 4 which will go over the important Highlights so my readers can still enjoy a good Novel with no Magic and not miss anything.
3. 5 Arcs are planned. Originally it was Six, where one of the ones on the middle was the Renaissance period, but another book has already satisfied most readers hence I will focus on the Other time periods.
4. Every Arc will not be the same set of steps, but instead, every Arc will be totally different from how our MC handles things. Every Arc will also be a completely different scenario than the previous ones. I can only say that Arc 1 and 5 are slightly the same in the way our MC handles it, Arc 2-4 are slightly the same.
5. Sometimes I will make ahistorical things happen, and only the beginning of my Arcs are mostly Historically accurate.

It was a simple unadorned, rectangular Japanese style chabudai. It had no traces of any openings or any signs that it could, by any way contain an opening under it. 

Even still, upon hearing the chirrs and the charrs of a machine, the first thing Grim looked at was this table. After all, it was the only thing which could create such sounds in this empty room.

The plain, spotless table suddenly showed cracks, in the shapes of rectangles, which after a short delay sunk into the table. Grim looked under the table, but to his surprise, found no mechanisms under it. The table couldn't be any simpler, and the more it was so, the more magical it felt.

He suddenly heard his master's voice coming from in front, in a scolding tone " Book E-37689, Enchanting magic and it's uses, Types of enchantments, Spatial Enchantment. How can you forget such simple things. "

Grim rubbed the back of his head in confusion, and as if he suddenly remembered something, he slapped his forehead and said " Minor Spatial transfer between one location to another. Sorry, Master, I forgot. " before giggling cheekily as he imagined his master to be shaking his head with a slight smile.

The parts of the table, which had sunk just moments ago, slowly came back up. This time, with an ancient looking book on top of each of them. Grim knew these were the tomes that he could choose from, so he slowly and acutely observed everything he could from their outer appearance.

He once again heard his master's voice " Book T-213, Tomes And Our Discoveries, Recent discoveries. Say it out loud, in your own words, of course. "

Grim nodded as he went back to scratching his head. After a short while of scratching his head, he spoke with slight hesitation " January 27th, 2056, A nameless scientist made the observation that the types of magic a tome provided can be mainly classified into 3 different types, namely - " He paused as he pointed at the first book " The ones which record historical wars and records of other such times which contain violent and bloody history, provide people with aggressive magic, like Fire, Ice, Earth, Etc. "

He then picked up the tome and looked at it's spine " Cold Wars That Changed History, A book that records the summaries of all cold wars to date that happened till the year 2071. " After saying till here he properly put it back and pointed at the next book " Support type magic, that enhances the basic attributes of many things . These magic include Healing, Enchance, Enchanting, Etc. This is obtained from books that contain records of times of peace. "

He picked up the second book and looked at it's spine " Trade Records Of Ancient India. " Following which, he put it back properly and pointed at the third book " The variable type. This type of Tome provides random magic, and sometimes, even a combination of both support and aggressive magic. Just like my master, your, Frost Magic. "

He picked up the last book and read the spine " The Sword In The Stone . A book that can be considered both a record of history, as well as a fantasy from way back when magic was something very far-fetched. It was a time long before the Era of Magic and Absolute Slaughter. "

He put the last tome back properly and sighed. " Do I really have to choose from all three types of tomes ? Can't master just choose a tome for myself. It is proven absolutely impossible for me to choose another tome if I make a mistake this time and regret my choice later. "

Fuar looked at the room in front of him with a slight smile as he looked on at his stupid little disciple speaking endlessly about how he didn't want to regret his choice if he made a wrong choice today. Fuar himself was quite unsure about what he would do, if provided with the choice between the three tomes. Based on his disciple's personality, he was almost certain he should choose the tome which had a high chance of providing aggressive magic. Support magic was never suited for his disciple, who was quite headstrong and always wanted to be in the spotlight.

" It's your choice. " Fuar said, interrupting Grim in the middle of his long speech. " Bind a Tome as I taught you when you asked me how to do it back then. "

He saw his disciple sigh once again and nod, followed by looking with an unwavering gaze at the third tome. The tome which had a high chance of providing with a combination of both aggressive and support magic .

Fuar pressed a button, and just like how the tomes did before, a knife appeared on the table, right below the tomes.

His disciple held the knife in his left hand and resolutely extended his right hand above the third tome and slit a vein. His blood, like a river flowed from his cut wrist onto the tome on the table, and like magic, no blood feel on the other two tomes. Like a greedy sponge, all the blood the flowed from his wrist was absorbed by the tome, which slowly turned blood red, and following the path the blood came from, slowly swam up it, and into Grim's body .

The blood stopped flowing, and the tome vanished. Fuar had a shocked expression on his face and so did Grim, who looked at his wrist and muttered " Is this i... "

He suddenly emitted a blindingly bright white light from his entire body. Fuar panicked and quickly tried to enter the room , and when he reached the spot Grim was sitting at, he was surprised to find no traces of him.

He was even more surprised when suddenly a transparent interface appeared in front of his eyes after a long time and shocked the daylights out of him .
