In the era of globalization, where everyone depends on technological progress. I was just an ordinary young man who had just graduated from high school and was unable to continue my education because I don't want to go to college. My parents sent me to live with my uncle and wanted me to learn the business from him, the current situation was so uncertain, many outbreaks of mysterious illnesses sprang up and sudden devastating natural disasters. In 2021 the end of summer when I was on my way to my uncle's place, suddenly the sky became dark, the sky that was once so bright turned dark clouds, covered with black clouds, rainstorms and lightning pounced as if it would pounce on the earth. Earthquakes occur and ground shakes cause the land to crack and separate, the ocean becomes fierce with a tsunami attack approaching the coast and nearby land. The volcano erupted as if issuing its anger, spewing hot phlegm of lava from its stomach, burning up the green forest on the mountainside, wiping out the entire green nature.
When the panic peaked, suddenly countless meteors fell from the sky like leaves that fell carried by the wind, hit the earth, and crushed the earth's surface. From the surface of the falling meteors came a dark, dark light that looked like it whirled slowly like a whirlpool but was very dark in color and gave off an aura like a cloud of thin black smoke.
The world immediately became quiet from the sounds of living creatures. There is no sound of life except the sound of natural disasters and inanimate objects, this is the end of the world that comes suddenly and unexpectedly.

(Thirteen moons ago...) 

The night sky is filled with stars. The full moon offers a soothing light as it illuminates a place of endless rolling hills. This place is owned by a race of busy people. Aubade Sylphs, to be more precise. A kind of mortal with skin as pale as ash, and ears long and pointed. They went about their business like normal, living their lives in the large, wealthy land of Sybilius. 

And in the far southeast corner of Sybilius, there lies a large, old palace surrounded by thick walls and a rich city. Beyond the walls were a few miles of the same rolling hills before fading into a dark, unnerving forest. 

Beyond the trees, a dark figure waits patiently. 

During this night, like always, the noble sylphs stayed inside their homes. The streets of the Royal City were barren, save for some drunken fools and a handful patrolling guards. 

The palace, however, was lit like a candelabra. Warning signs flared to alert others in the palace of an emergency. All while the citizens slept or watched blankly, unknowing of what it really meant. 

The cause of the commotion runs from the palace, beyond the walls and toward the forest. But sylphs are in deep pursuit, responding to the trouble with their crossbows and blades. 

Near the forest, about eight sylph warriors pause. The warriors are clad from head to toe in thin-but-sturdy armor. The violet plumes of their helmets flow in the wind, and moonlight bounces off the silver metal that enclasps them. They hastily scurry about, trying to stop the threat and prevent an ambush. 

"Take them down!" One sylph shouts. "Remember, defend-" 

'BLAM!' 

The sylph is launched back, the impact rendering him paralyzed. 

All that remains is the monstrous opponent before his corpse. A tall enemy, with animalian ears that protrude from atop his head, chilling eyes with slitted pupils, and a mouth full of fangs. He slides back the pump of his gold-tinted gun to chamber another firey, magic bullet. 

The marksman fires straight into the air, sending a bright light into the sky. 

Beyond the trees, a dark figure grunts angrily, fangs bared as his lip curls. 

Just like that, two more shifting figures creep out from the darkened vale. Even with only three opponents, the sylph warriors show obvious signs of discomfort, as they know a formidable challenge is ahead. Even so, they raise their weapons and press on. 

Swords slash, archers and gunslingers fire away, and even sorts of magic begin to flare. The battlefield is not terribly large, but it is gory enough to make one cringe. It would not last much longer, though. 

Beyond the trees, a dark figure glares at a newcomer, standing at the opposite edge of the field. 

This person is a regal sylph, clasped in violet-tinted armor and a gold crown studded with amethysts. Watching the horror of battle play out, she grows angered with each agonized cry and fallen soldier. More blood stains the tall grass, and the earth starts to scorch. Unable to stand it, nor the sense of failure, the royal sylph unsheathes her ornate sword and approaches. 

None of the opponents look happy. 

The female beast with a mace growls, "Corelia." 

The marksman cocks his gun. "Damn her; how is she not giving up?" 

A male with a golden sword steps up, pointing his blade. "It was stupid for you to pull a stunt like that. You should know; try to take one, and the rest of us fight back. Are you dumb enough to think we'd leave our beta in your hands?" 

The violet-garbed sylph looks to a much shorter male with dark green hair. Due to his being disarmed and weakened, he'd been avoiding the fight, even if it clearly made him very irritated. His clothes are stained with blood; filthy blood that is black as tar. Even in these conditions, he only glares and reflects no fear. 

The sylph's voice was strong and unwavering. "Everything I do, I do to protect my Aubades. I protect them from the monsters that try to kill them. Those like you." 

"Shut up!" The female snaps. "You think you can just-" 

"Enough." 

All four of the opponents stir at the voice. Despite it being dark and monotonous, they act like a gun was fired right behind them. The sylph only smirks, though. 

From beyond the trees, another monster steps forward, blending too well with the shadows of the forest and the darkness of the night. No one can tell who he is, although he certainly came from the same beastly race as the others. 

The figure speaks, "Can I not trust you idiots to complete one simple mission without letting the most dangerous creature follow you back to our territory?" 

The marksman looks down. "Sorry." 

The dark figure grunts. "Retreat." 

The swordsman snaps, "What?! What about the other sylphs?!" 

"Forget it," the dark figure responds. "It's not as if any of them are going to last long; we'll kill them sooner or later. Just keep your patience." 

Though hesitant, the swordsman retreats to the forest, with the one female and marksman following. However, the smaller opponent stands his ground. It's clear that even when defenseless, he does not want to leave. 

The sylph points to him. "A faithful one, isn't he? Can't abandon his master, even at a time like this. Strong loyalty is admirable, milord, but strict obedience is merely foolish." 

The figure ignores her, shooting a glare at the remaining troop. In response, he hangs his head and sighs, but still obeys and retreats. Now, all that's left on the battlefield is the strange dark figure and the violet-garbed sylph. 

The sylph sighs, "I don't understand. Your army is reduced to nothing, you and your sister are suffering, and my own people only grow stronger. Why do you keep fighting like this? Why can't you just admit that there's no chance for your survival or benefit?" 

"You know exactly why," the dark figure replies, his one-eyed glare reflecting a dark history. 

"Yes, I know." The sylph gives a dismissive wave. "You all swore you wouldn't stop until I am sent down with my homeland. But believe it or not, I hate this war." She sighs sadly. "I hate losing troops, and seeing lives ruined from grief. It's horrid; surely, as a leader yourself, you must understand the pain that comes with seeing your subjects suffer. Yet even after years of this, I am still a girl who can bargain. We could end this war, and you know that, if only you'd be willing to cooperate." 

The dark figure has no remorse. "Even a child knows not to deal with an Aubade, of all things. An orc would be more trustworthy than you or anyone else in this hellhole." 

"You're one to talk," the sylph mutters. Her eyes narrow to a glare. "Can't you see that there's no hope? At the rate you're going, you'll be sent to the grave. Just like the rest of your kind and that damn-" 

Suddenly, the sylph takes a sharp breath and quickly raises her sword. 

'CLANG!' 

Her blade is now holding back a jagged spear, which threatens to cut open her throat. 

The dark figure speaks, "Watch your tongue, Corelia. Continue to use it in that way, and I'll rip it from your skull." 

"I'm only telling you to give you a chance," the sylph desperately responds. "War doesn't have to be the answer. Maybe before it was necessary for whatever reason, but time passes and things change. My limits were crossed long ago!" 

"Since when are you such a sparing person?" The dark figure snaps. "Quit acting like some pitiful peace-maker. We both know this not only won't end, it can't end. Not until all the pawns of one side are downed, and there's no one left to fight. Our ancestors made sure of that." 

Quickly, the sylph draws back, attempting to strike again. The figure, fast as light itself, blocks and counters with a strike to the neck. The sylph easily recovers and presses forward. It becomes a savage parry between light and shadow; a figure of regality and a figure of malevolence. Eventually, she fails to hit him, but blocks the incoming attack. 

"Just wait," the sylph speaks, her breaths strained. "A war like ours can't go on forever, and I know you can feel it." 

"You wouldn't know," the dark figure growls. "All you do is hide behind your army." 

The sylph snaps, "I do not risk other's lives for myself!" 

Suddenly, the sylph's sword flies back; out of her hands, landing with its blade stuck in the dirt. She almost doubles over between the shockwave and how the dark figure slams his knee into her gut. She rushes back to avoid a fatal blow. She has to hide her anxiety as she sees the burning red orbs on the figure. 

The sylph looks irate. "Contain your evil! Arrogant creature, just wait and you'll see. Something big is coming; this game we keep playing is about to change. I can feel it in my veins, and if it's enough for me to notice, it's certainly enough for you." 

"I wasn't going to deny that..." 

As a cloud moves away from the moon, the extra light illuminates the figure's pale gold spear, and finally reveals defining features like his dark attire, countless scars on colorless skin, and hair blacker than a raven's feather. He keeps the right side of his face hidden. 

"Chaos is definitely lurking." As he glares up, his eye turns from red to dark blue. "But as with the last several ages, I think the source of it is right in front of me." 

The sylph's eyes narrow. "We'll see about that, won't we?"

A sudden halo appeared around me, which was a rare case, as skill books aren't suppose to have a 'halo' effect, only the 500th level up would do so.

I looked in awe, this is like saving 5/6 of skill points which should've been used for elements.

Transgrain and the receptionist looked intrigued thus I gave them a view of the skill.

Transgrain said 'This is utterly unfair, I believe you two will be the new generation that brings us to another level.'

As Lagura and I smiled, we paid for our skill books and left.

We decided to talk about the dungeon, which was a easy talk, the idea was that we shouldn't do another 1 month challenge anymore, despite Lagura being able to see the future, our reflexes may not help us that much if Lagura has to take time to shout and for me to move, we would have to train our way dodge and attack by experience.

The three cobra-like flames leapt forward into the air at extreme speed. The atmosphere immediately became extremely hot. The flames in the fireplace jumped up in response.
Van recalled his power quickly, afraid of damaging his room.

Extremely satisfied with his new move, Van practiced Searing Serpent Strike for another two hours.
When he finished practicing, he immediately turned his attention back to Dark Seas Palm. Now that he had reached the expert-level in Dark Seas Palm, he had unlocked another move!

An invisible, icy wind moved his robes as a chilly qi filled the room. In the centre – just above his bed – a tiny spinning vortex began to grow and grow.
The windows rattled, and the glass frosted over.
Seconds later, an enormous spinning whirlpool of dark, icy water filled with vicious qi encompassed the room.
Van felt the power of the whirlpool getting stronger and started to struggle to control it.
[Such attractive power…! I feel as if my whole body is being pulled towards it!]
Van grimaced and forcefully cancelled the move.
The whirlpool collapsed into a tiny dot.
Van breathed heavily. He pulled out the Dark Seas Palm manual and flipped to the relevant page.

Van sat down and meditated on the move. He familiarised himself with it by envisioning the flow of energy and the rhythm at which he needed to channel his qi.
After that, he stood up and practiced it for two hours. When he was satisfied with his progress, he grabbed dinner with Ryan and then returned to his room to cultivate.
Van did not sleep until it was nearly morning.

"Sect Master Musheng," Tutor Zhang said as he bowed deeply.
"Old Zhang," Sect Master Musheng hurried forwards and lifted Tutor Zhang from his bow, "No need to be so courteous with me, old fellow. A teacher for a day is a teacher for a lifetime. You may not be my Master, but you have taught generations of disciples. You are worthy of my respect."
Tutor Zhang tried to resist only for a moment. When he relented, he straightened his back and pretended that he had not been moved by Sect Master Musheng's words. Although he had only tutored Musheng once or twice when he was a child, and could not be considered Musheng's Master, seeing how grown up that little brat Musheng had become nearly brought a tear to his eye.
[Late Sect Master!] Tutor Zhang called out in his mind, [You would be so proud to see your son like this!]
Musheng tilted his head. With his purple eyes, he looked quizzically at Tutor Zhang, "Why have you come to find me today, Old Zhang? Is there something urgent?"
Tutor Zhang was shaken back to the present. He dipped his neck, "Indeed, Sect Master. I was under the impression that you were having a headache regarding those outer disciples of yours?"
Musheng's elegant smile sagged a little. He sighed.
"It is not that my outer disciples are weak, it is just that there seems to be a big gap between the new disciples and the older ones. The top outer disciples and the other famous ones are strong enough, but there are no stand outs in the cultivation levels below the 7th…"
"Besides that, they also lack good leaders…I'm afraid they'll be a disorganised mess in the Monster Mausoleum. Then our chances of sending more disciples to the Secret Realm will decrease."
Musheng sighed again. His black hair blew lightly in the wind as he looked contemplatively in the distance.
Tutor Zhang smiled.
"Actually, I may have a solution for you, Sect Master. You see, during my public forum today I bumped into two very interesting outer disciples. I believe they may be the gems you have been longing for."
Musheng heard the old tutor's words and looked curiously at him, "It is rare for you to heap praise upon disciples, Old Zhang. Who could have impressed you this much?"
Tutor Zhang chuckled, "Two outer disciples, one in the 4th and the other in the 5th level of Qi Distillation!"
Musheng's curious expression faded somewhat, "Oh. That's very good. However, their levels are a little low…"
Tutor Zhang felt Musheng's disappointment, "Do not worry about their current cultivation levels."
"One entered the sect a month ago and has shot from the 1st level to the 5th, as well as achieved the expert-level in their 'Seven Stances of the Sand Scorpion'. The other is only in the 4th level of Qi Distillation and has achieved expert-level in their skill 'Dark Seas Palm'!"
"A cultivation genius and a martial genius! They have already gained fame in the outer sect as the 'twin dragons!'" Tutor Zhang told the Sect Master.
Musheng had regained some excitement in his eyes, "Is this truly as you say?"
"Yes! Swear on my life!"
Musheng nodded, "This is indeed very good. If they are as talented as you may them out to be, reaching at least the 6th level should qualify them to enter the Monster Mausoleum in two months' time."
The Sect Master looked up into the clear blue sky, "If they can enter the 6th level of Qi Distillation in two months' time, I will let them enter the Monster Mausoleum…"
Tutor Zhang was surprised, "Eh?"
Sect Master Musheng smiled, "Tell them that if they are willing to lead a group of thirty disciples during the Monster Mausoleum and ensure not a single casualty occurs, I will directly grant them the title of 'inner disciple'!"
Tutor Zhang felt his mouth drop to the ground, "S-Sect Master! Leading a battalion of thirty disciples? Directly entering the inner sect without passing any of our exams? All of the protocols will be broken!"
Musheng smiled, "So be it."
The old tutor shook his head, "They are only young, that is a heavy burden!"
The old man continued to shake his head, but several moments later he realised something, "Did you say achieving 6th level of Qi Distillation in two months? That is impossibly hard as well!"
Musheng's smile deepened. His eyes felt fathomless.
"If they are true geniuses, they will not back off from a challenge."
Tutor Zhang heard these words and felt them knock him on the head. Eventually, he sighed.
"That is true, Sect Master. That is true…"
In the end, Tutor Zhang still felt a slight discomfort in his heart. He struggled to put this discomfort into words, but eventually realised the cause of it.
"Sect Master… May I ask you something?"
Musheng nodded, "Speak, Old Zhang."
Tutor Zhang explained his thoughts, "This time, the opening of the Secret Realm… I feel we are placing much more weight on it this year compared to ten years ago!"
Sect Master Musheng's face darkened. He drew the old tutor to a corner of the pavilion they stood on.
"It is as you say, Old Zhang. I am indeed placing much importance on the opening of the realm this time… And I'm afraid that…"
Musheng narrowed his eyes and spoke quietly, "What do you know about the sea that borders our realm, Old Zhang?"
The old tutor shook his head, "Barely anything. It surrounds our realm and we cannot pass through it. It is the end of the world."
Sect Master Musheng leant closer, "What if I told you… it's not?"
"What if I told you that beyond the sea is a wall, and beyond this wall is a vast space beyond our wildest imaginings? What if it is filled with dangerous beings who could kill us with a look, who were waiting for the chance to enter our realm and plunder it?"
Tutor Zhang felt shaken, "All the scholars have dreamed about the space beyond the sea…are you telling me that we actually have known all along what is beyond it?"
Musheng nodded, "The Late Sect Master told me a tale that had been passed on to him by his Master, and his Master before him, and his Master's Master and so on."
"The mystic sea surrounding our Divine River Realm. It has always been there. But the barrier? Someone put it there, hundreds of millions of years ago. Master guessed that it was to protect this realm from the world beyond. The barrier in the mystic sea has been opened before, however."
Tutor Zhang gasped, "It has been opened before?"
Musheng nodded, "It has been opened multiple times. Each time, it was opened with a very special key. A singular key. The person who held this key was known as the 'gatekeeper,' and he controlled who entered and exited the realm."
"From ancient records handed down in the Cedar Sect, we know that people have only ever entered the Divine River realm. Never the opposite."
"Do you know what is even more shocking?" Musheng asked.
The old tutor shook his head vigorously, his heart was beating fast as he listened to the Sect Master's outlandish story.
"The last person to enter our realm from beyond… they came here only a couple hundred years ago. They are still here, and they are still alive!"
Old Zhang gasped, "Still alive? Then we could ask them what is beyond the barrier in the mystic sea!"
Musheng shook his head, "That person's identity is unknown. They have been in hiding since they arrived!"
Tutor Zhang found one curious point, "You said that this person who entered our realm… you said that they are still inside the Divine River realm. How do you know this?"
Sect Master Musheng leaned forwards once more. His purple eyes flashed, "Because I know they could not have left our realm. They could not have. The precious key was destroyed into three fragments and hidden all over the Divine River Realm!"
Tutor Zhang suddenly felt that he had learned something deadly, he couldn't help the patter of his heart.
"Sect Master, you are telling this old man that not only was there a key that could allow one to enter or exit our realm, it was also split into many pieces? And they have been hidden so well that no one could find them for hundreds of years?"
Musheng shook his head, "It is not that no one could find them. It is that they could not be found."
"However, all signs are pointing to the opening of the Secret Realm. Not only does it open rarely, but only those under the Sea Establishment realm can also enter and survive within it. Sect Master Musheng looked deeply at him, "Indeed. That is why we must stop them at all costs!"
Tutor Zhang continued to press, "Then why do they want to open the barrier? Do they not know the dangers?"
Musheng raised his neck and stared once more at the blue sky. It was just slightly beginning to darken.
"I suspect there are other forces working behind the scenes. Perhaps the Star-Cutting Sword Sect believe that untold riches lay beyond the barrier and untold opportunity. Perhaps they have been blinded by their greed…" The Sect Master trailed off.
He looked down at Old Zhang in front of him and felt a little bad for revealing such heavy secrets to such an old fellow.

"Old Zhang, I shall not trouble you further. Just tell your disciples what I have told you. I must increase the number of people we can take within the Secret Realm and stop the Star-Cutting Sect's nefarious plots at all cost!"
