Yabemiya looked at him uncertainly. "10 bowls of rice? That's a lot."
"Four, then. We can always order more later, right?" Lulu asked.
"Sure." Yabemiya went back into the kitchen.
"This braised chicken is amazing, Amy," said Xixi with a radiant smile. "I envy you for having such a talented father. This is the most delicious food I've ever eaten!" She decided this dish had blown away all the other foods she had ever had.
Amy was very proud and happy. "Father is the best cook in the world!"
Suddenly, Xixi felt warm in her belly. She looked down, incredulous. She thought she had imagined it, but the warm feeling was becoming clearer by the minute as if her wound was healing.
Xixi made a heart shape with her hands over her belly, and whispered some spells. A green light appeared from her hands and circled her belly; then, a 10-centimeter-tall seedling slowly came out.
The tree had shriveled and looked dead, but on the top of it, a small leaf was turning green; it looked extra conspicuous.
Xixi was so happy that she cried. She looked at the little tree as if it were her own baby. "The World Tree has revived!"
Lulu stood up quickly. "Thank God!" He walked over to her, crouched down, and looked at the tree with a blissful look, his hands shaking with excitement.
Xixi's tears were streaming down her cheeks.
Lulu held her in his arms; she buried her face in his chest, tears wetting his shirt. "You'll soon be able to bear children again," Lulu said. "We will revive the dryads."
Over 100 years ago, the dryads had got wiped out. Lulu and Xixi had escaped with a seed of the World Tree, but their enemies had never stopped hunting them. Many times, they had found themselves trapped in dangerous situations.
Xixi got pregnant 30 years ago. They found a secret place in a valley near a lake to wait for the baby to come, but clearly it was not secret enough. They were found.
With a baby in her belly, Xixi was not as agile as before. They barely made it out alive, but a poisoned arrow caught her in the belly and killed the baby.
The seedling gave its vitality to her and brought her back from the brink of death, but it shriveled.
They had tried countless ways to revive it—they had even bought some water from the Spring of Life—but to no avail.
Because of her wound, Xixi lost her ability to bear children. It was cruel, especially for a girl who liked kids.
It really broke Lulu's heart every time he saw her play with children.
But now, everything might change. If the World Tree revived, it could provide her with energy and power. Her wound would heal, and she would be able to bear children again.
Hope had been ignited; they had found their purpose in life again.
Amy didn't understand why they suddenly started crying, but she decided not to disturb them.
The customers nearby looked at them, confused.
"The food is so delicious that it made her cry?" a customer whispered.
"Probably. I'm halfway through my life, but it's the first time I've eaten such delicious food. It's so sad when I think about the fact that I don't have many years to live to eat this," a middle-aged man said, wiping the tears off the corners of his eyes.
"You're so embarrassing, Father." His young son picked up his bowl and turned away.
The middle-aged man slapped his chopsticks down on the table. "Oh, am I?"
"I'm sorry, Father. Please don't do anything rash that might lead to us being banned."
His father looked at Amy, picked up his chopsticks, and started eating again.
Xixi's sobbing wasn't loud, so she didn't disturb other customers.
"I think the World Tree was revived because of this braised chicken, Lulu," she said. She had stopped crying, but her eyes were still red. "So I decided to have one more bowl."


In Chaos City on the Norland Continent, there is a strange restaurant.

Here, elves and dwarves share tables. Beastmen are prohibited from making a din, and giant dragons can only seat around the tiny square in front of the restaurant. Even demons have to bring their own stools…

The sun is up shining brightly in the vivid sky. She opened her eyes snail-paced as she checked the time.

"Anyway Mason, give me your address right now."

He was about to give the address to his mother but he realized that he didn't know where he was at. 

"Wait a second mom, I don't know where I'm at right now." Mason then realized what a stupid act that was. His mother sighed and didn't even say anything.

It seemed like in both world, his mother would always sigh whenever she was really disappointed at him or is she was really pissed off.

Mason stood up and walked over to the sign at the entrance of the park in order to find out the name of the park and when he did, he gave it to his mother. "Okay Mason. I'll send your sister to pick you up." His mother told him goodbye and hung up the phone but not before she sighed again.

"That's the first time I've heard her sigh twice in a row, she would never do that back in the old world. What happened to me?" Mason tried to find answers but decided to worry about that later because he currently had bigger problems. 

"I got a big sister now. I got a big sister who I don't know anything about. How the hell am I going to get away with this?" Mason thought about it for a while before opening up the AppStore. He looked at the app more carefully this time around. He noticed that there was a question mark on the top right of the AppStore.

He pressed on it and and the initial screen disappeared and replacing it was a new screen full of information. "If I have 10 fans, I get my first app. 100, 1000, 10000, and so on. Well this is extremely convenient. I get to choose what I want for my first app? There is three apps available to choose right now. After I choose all three then three more will receive replace them.

The first three apps are Makeover, Memory, and Money. Why do all of them start with M? Whatever. What's most important is Memory. I just need to gain 10 fans and I can select it."

He had ways he could get 10 fans. After all this world is supposed to be easier to blow up because of the decrease in quality of celebrities and the increase in quantities.

Mason waited for 10 minutes before he saw a white 2018 Nissan GT-R parked by the park. At first Mason thought that it was just another person visiting the park but when thinking about it, Mason realized that not a lot of people would go to a park during the nighttime.

What sealed the deal was when the woman inside of the car honked and screamed in his direction. "My family is definitely richer than I thought. That shouldn't be surprising considering the fact that we live in L.A. Hollywood. But then why am I working in a candle factory?"

Mason ran over to the car and entered the passenger seat. His sister had blonde hair and she had eyes that matched perfectly on her perfectly chiseled face.

The only reason why Mason didn't want to kill himself because of the way he saw his sister was because in the end of the day, he didn't know a single thing about her. She was practically a stranger, that was also his sister, that he supposedly knew for years.

She had sunglasses on her hair that was wrapped into a bun and it looked very expensive. It was the types you would see on commercials during big sporting events.

Mason wasn't sure if he should be happy of his family's new wealth or to feel kind of guilty because he got rid of his old life in order to get a new one.

He proceeded to put his seat-belt on and then leaned his head against the window of the car. He wanted to rest because he was technically awake for more than 18 hours if including the hours from his old life.

He thought that the car was going to start moving towards their house but when he turned his head around, what he saw instead was his sister looking at him dead into his eyes. She had the looks of the devil.

"Why the hell are you in Highland Camrose Park in the first place?" Elizabeth seemed very pissed off at him. Her face almost seemed to have been bleeding because of how red it was.

For the first time ever in his life, Mason was actually scared out of his wits. And this happened just by looking at her face. "I don't know... I guess I just wanted to see the nature." Mason gave her the first excuse that came to his mind.

"Nature? Mason, out of everyone I know, you like nature the least. Every time you got this drunk, the last place you would be is near parks. What's different this time around?" It was almost as if Elizabeth was inspecting Mason from his head to his toenail.

"Um... I don't know how to answer your question other than this. People change." Mason was actually sort of proud of his stupid answer.

Elizabeth's face went from slightly red to the brightest shade of tomato. "You was just drunk yesterday and you kept talking about how you hated the smell of flowers the whole car ride yesterday. You changed this much in one day?"

Mason shrugged and looked outside the window to hide his embarrassed face. Instead of answering, he just stayed silent. His answer seemed even dumber the more he thought about it.

Elizabeth kept talking while Mason stayed silent. He didn't want to turn back around just to see the devil in his face once again.

His hopes was that Elizabeth would begin driving if she noticed that he didn't want to talk anymore. After a while, it finally worked and she began driving towards their new home.

The car ride was smooth and was relaxing but any sort of relaxation Mason was supposed to feel was canceled out by the fact that it was the most awkward ride he's ever been on.

11 minutes later and Mason was now observing his new home. He called it a house but it seemed that he was wrong. He was going to his new house, he was going to his new mansion.

Not only did his sister own a sports car but they also live in a mansion. Mason knew that something was up. His family was rich but he was working in a candle factory.

"Why the hell do I work in a candle factory?" Mason couldn't hold it in anymore and shouted what he initially meant to say in a normal voice.

Elizabeth who just got out of her car stared at him for a while before answering in a much different mood and tone of voice than before. "You wanted to follow in dad's footstep remember. He used own the candle factory you work at and you wanted to take it back from that evil monster."

Mason stood still for a little bit before walking towards the mansion. If he was supposed to feel excited or happy at this moment because of the changes, he couldn't.

Inferring what his sister said, Mason knew that his father was dead. Back in the old world, his father was at his best health and was as happy as could be. Mason now regretted ever making that wish.

As he was walking, memories of father and son moments reminisced in his mind. Mason had on a slight smile when he thought of the time when they went fishing and he caught a fish so big that even when is dad came to help, they both ended up falling into the lake.

Mason tried his best to hold back tears but a few managed to escape his grasp.

"I'm so sorry father. I'm really sorry that your incompetent son did this to you." The tears kept flowing although he tried to hold it back. And as if it was planned, rain started pouring down on him.

There was a small amount of force being applied to his right shoulder but when he turned around, he saw no one other than his sister who was running from the rain.

He also felt warmth in his body as if somebody was telling him that it was okay.

Mason Cohen, a regular boy with a regular name. He was a regular millennial that followed regular news about the media. Only thing different was that he was also a fan of light novels.

That was him 4 years ago. Mason was now the highest paid actor in Hollywood and the owner of the biggest company in the world. He also took the spot of number 1 song in the world.

The change in his life was sudden and was so fast that Hollywood couldn't keep up.

And it was all thanks to a shooting star.

In that final week of that beautiful spring, I naively thought life would get better. I just finished college, got my bachelor's degree, which has proven to be as useless to me now as anything else in life, and I was ready to brave the big bold world. Naive, right?
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst and in a stupid accident: I drowned in my bathtub. As cliché as it can get it was all because of a misplaced bar of soup. My foot didn't see any consequences of stepping on it and it made me fall, hitting my head while passing out. 
My best friend Karl heard the sound of me falling and tried for two minutes to knock the door down. He finally got me out of the bathtub, called the ambulance and tried some CPR. As a sheer coincidence, the paramedics got there under two minutes. Some random kids had called them just for a prank. At least that was what I believe back then…
I was dead, clinically dead, for seven whole minutes as later I was told by the paramedics. I didn't breathe nor my heart beat. Until, as Karl said, I spit some water, looked at Karl and simply said "my head."
I got to make lots of exams and many people wished to see me, mostly doctors. As you can see, it's pretty rare for someone to die and live to tell.
Well, you might be wondering, lots of people die and come back a few minutes later, right? It's always on the news some incredible story like that.
And the injured party always claim some fake supernatural event. I never for once believe those bullshits. They clearly want some attention, right?
Well, my friend, here is where you get it wrong too. I saw it. I really saw. Not a tunnel nor a light. I saw myself down on the floor. I saw my friend Karl crying and desperate.
I saw his failed attempt at CPR. I saw the paramedics try and give up. I saw them trying to console Karl, that it was "God's will."
Of course, I didn't remember this until that night, where it all appeared to me in a dream. I didn't remember when I woke up from death, I was too drowsy, I wasn't myself. Only when I slept I remember. I was in that horrible bed of that hospital. I had some trouble sleeping and they got me some pills and I slept.
In that dream, I saw everything that has happened with clear details. I didn't believe a thing when I woke up, of course.
I only became a true believer almost a day later when I died again. I was still in the hospital and it was a few hours past noon. I had my horrible hospital lunch and did some exams. None has shown any signals of me ever 'dying'. I was normal as anyone could get. No trauma no nothing.
The silly doctors where perplexed with it, so was I back then. You might be wondering again now, how did I die again then? If I was fit as a horse?
Life is full of surprises my friend. And life is the devil in disguise. Life only wants to fuck you up and that's all. It tries to kill me, brings me back only to kill me some hours later, and by what? A fucking peanuts allergy.
The strange thing? I was never fucking allergic to peanuts! I just got my friend Karl, my good old friend, to get me some chocolate from a vending machine nearby.
He was so happy seeing me alive, he was constantly remembering that time when I laid flat on the ground and de despair he felt, and how happy he was, how happy.
When he brought me that candy bar he would have never thought that would kill me again. For the second time, Karl saw me die.
At first, things were normal, but less than 10 seconds later I couldn't breathe. Karl thought I was making a silly joke, a man from the grave joke. But I really couldn't fucking breath.
And don't be mad at him, the poor guy had been through a lot and no one would ever have thought I would die again, right?
He got some doctors when I got a little blue and started crying again. I never knew this side of him. Always crying for dead people. Life and death are so common to me now that when I remember that day I find it silly and comical. So many ways to die. Well, I would experience many of them myself in the near future.
The doctors treated me well. Got some injection on me, gave me something I don't remember the name. It's hard remembering things when you are dying, you see.
I didn't help much. For some reason, things escalated very quickly and my heart once again stopped beating.
If you think I died yet again for seven minutes you are deadly wrong. This time was only one minute. There were doctors doing the serious job this time.
When I was all safe and sound I got to do all sort of exams again, thus increasing my medical bill to astronomical amounts.
I think Karl said "I'm sorry" a thousand times, or at least very close to that number.
The funny thing was that I was never allergic to peanuts and I still ain't! But nevertheless, I've got to live, one more day. One at a time. Only to die in the next.
But it was in this second time that I turned myself in a true believer. When I woke up from death I remember what I saw, and I saw it clearer this time. I saw myself dead in a table with doctors nearby.
I remember every word they said as soon as I woke up. And a strange little idea popped up in my mind. An idea that would change my life forever. Can't I die?
That idea didn't leave my head for hours and hours. I became obsessed with it. I tried to see some articles on the web about near-death experiences but it was always full of bullshit. I would have a better time trying to see some real reports of UFOs…
In the next day, you see, I died once again. And this one was a pretty silly death. I still laugh at my naivety back then.
I wanted to test a theory I whimsically had and tried to kill myself.

How many times can a person die and still remain alive?
Would this be a gift and or a curse?

The next day.
The royal couple entered the prison room. Their children were already gathered inside for the family meeting.
King Antone went to his oldest son's side. "Zain, is this true? You are now ready to leave this room and live together with Hannah and your son under one roof?"
Zain smiled at his father. "Yes, Father. All you heard is true. I will also announce to everyone that Jessy and I are no longer an official couple. We are going our separate ways. I'm ready to leave this room today, Father," he said.
"This is awesome! I'm happy that you finally realized that staying here is a waste of time. So, can we now schedule Hannah's blood transfusion tomorrow?" the king asked.
"Yes, Father. As soon as possible," Zain answered.
"Where do you want to stay, son? Here in the Facility or the Habitat?" the queen asked.
"In the Habitat of course. I already had the house ready, remember?" Zain reminded them.
"Ah, okay. Don't worry I will get the house ready so that you and Hannah can finally transfer there... after she is done with the blood transfusion," Queen Margaret stated.
"Thanks, Mother. I'm so ready to get out!" Zain said in a thrilling voice. The expression on his face was that of someone excited to face the world outside after a long time of hiding.
King Antone wrapped his arms around his oldest son affectionately. "Welcome back, son!" he said teary-eyed.
"Thank you, Father!" tears shimmered on Zain's eyes.
Everyone in the room was emotionally affected by this milestone. Comfortable silence descended upon them, as they kept their thoughts to themselves, savoring this momentous moment, enjoying their togetherness.
"I want a family hug!" Abigail exclaimed cheerfully.
The family member gathered closer to each other and finally initiated the group hug.
Queen Margaret can't contain her happiness. "I love you guys! You are my only treasures in life! Thanks for this wonderful day. I've been waiting for something like this to happen for a long time, finally, the long wait is over! I'm so happy today!" she smiled as tears of happiness fell from her eyes.
King Antone rubbed his wife's back gently. "Shh, don't cry wife! You're getting ugly if you cry!" he joked.

I really wanted to explore what was inside, but we weren't allowed to enter, so we left the captive transport carriage at an outpost by the walls and walked back to Sachiru town. I have no idea why nobody in town had ever talked about such a conspicuous place nearby.
Once we got through the town's northern gate, Casath and Hanung parted with us since they lived somewhere in the west area, while we lived by the southeastern area. I really wanted to follow them just to know where they lived, but I'm sure I'll have other chances for that. Besides, Amber and I had to go talk to the owner of the carriage we borrowed to apologize for getting it destroyed. The owner was angry at first, but after I reimbursed him the full cost of a carriage, two horses, and the security deposit that Amber paid a few days ago, he happily forgave us. He even offered to let us borrow a different, more expensive carriage for our future travels.
Afterwards, we walked in the direction of the market district where our shop was located. Along that twenty minute walk, a reptilian carrying a large barrel walked by. Like Casath, he had an alligator-like face and large tail, but his scales were yellowish in color, while Casath's were a somewhat dark green. I had never seen him before in town, so perhaps he was one of the villagers from the wetlands that came over recently to help Casath and Hanung with their courier job.
"Ah, home sweet home!"
After all that unnecessary running around I experienced over the past few days, it felt relieving to know that I could finally stay put for two weeks. It was almost nine o'clock right now, so I asked Amber to go buy something for dinner since no grocer would be selling fresh food this late.  She wasn't happy with the thought of me lazing around right away, so she shoved a feather duster into my hand and told me to clean up the shop since everything had been left untouched for four whole days. I thought about refusing, but she waved her claws so close to my face that I couldn't do so.
"I'm back."
Twenty minutes later, Amber came back with two sandwiches, one for each of us. I only did a halfhearted job at cleaning since Amber usually did this each night while I was brewing potions, but it seemed like I did a good enough job in the shop space that she let me stop to eat.
"Thanks, Amber. Although… why sandwiches?"
This was what she got me on my first night here, and she would often get these on nights when she didn't feel like cooking anything.
"It's late. All the other food stalls are closed."
Couldn't she have easily gone into a pub and bought any other food to take away instead? Why look for a food stall in the middle of the night? Well, I don't particularly mind eating sandwiches frequently, anyways. It was certainly better than food scraps and leftovers.
I took a nice, refreshing bath after dinner, then retired to my room after a little more cleaning with Amber's help.

Some say that being an adventurer doing quests for a living was a wonderful job because of the freedom and exploration that comes with the job.

Unfortunately, that kind of life wasn't suited for everyone. A mage who found the life of an adventurer too difficult decides to retire and operate an alchemy store instead.

He gains a bit of fame from running one of very few alchemy stores in the world, but things don't go too smoothly for him, as he is once again forced to go on adventures...
