Tara’s new crush
Jay had followed Nancy to the cafeteria to get lunch, they both sat next to each other while eating.
"Yes you are right, I have never seen Mr. Rutherford laugh since I transferred to this Westwood, he always wears a straight face", Jay agreed with Nancy.
"He could actually be nice, there are people like that, they appear so grumpy in public but super nice in private", Nancy said as she chewed on her food gently.
Jay nodded and glanced at Nancy, they both smiled and kept eating.
A few weeks ago, Nancy was all alone in Westwood, coming to school and leaving alone, eating lunch on her own, but here she was making friends, she never thought this could happen since she believed coming to North Carolina or a new school would be extremely hard.
She found herself being free with Jay, he was a cool person with a great personality so far, and super funny too.
Nancy was laughing at what Jay had said when she suddenly saw Nolan and Stacy coming into the cafeteria, her face gradually dropped and her eyes followed the two as they both sat among his group of friends.
She instantly forgot how to chew and kept her gaze on Nolan who put his arm across Stacy's neck while talking to his friends and eating out of their food.
"Do you know them?"
Jay's question caught Nancy's attention, she turned her head and smiled at Jay who seemed curious about what was happening at Nolan's table.
"No no, I just thought I saw someone I know", she answered and kept eating, trying not to think about Nolan and Stacy or the conversation she had heard earlier or about Stacy confessing to him.
Jay knew she was not being truthful but he ignored it.
"You said you live with your Aunt?", he asked.
Nancy nodded, "she is drama itself… but these days I am enjoying living with her, but she is drama!", she answered.
"Explain drama", Jay asked.
Nancy took a last sip out of her juice and dropped it on her food tray, she turned to Jay and laughed.
"Aunt Kat literally has ten different men and they all think they would marry her".
Jay raised her eyebrows and widened his eyes, he laughed and turned to Nancy.
"Ten!"
"Literally… and they are so in love with her so much that they cook breakfast sometimes, I saw one in our kitchen early in the morning making bacon", Nancy said while laughing hard, she never thought it was funny until saying it to someone else.
Nolan was eating the apple he had stolen from one of his friends when his eyes caught Nancy from across the room, laughing with Jay.
He immediately stopped eating and took his arm off Stacy while staring at how much Nancy was laughing heartily with this boy, a lot of questions popped up in his mind as he kept staring at them with a straight face.
He has never seen her laugh that much and there she is laughing with him, who even is that? He looks new, Is he Nancy type? Does she like him? His body language shows he obviously likes her, are they dating? Is that her boyfriend? What are they laughing about?
Nolan's mind was filled with this thought and his fixed eyes were still on Nancy's wide grin as she spoke with Jay.
Stacy noticed Nolan was quiet, she turned and saw his curious face, she followed his eyes and saw Nancy.
She immediately recognized her from the bathroom and also remembered where she had seen her, she was the one Nolan had left her to go rescue from Jackson, she scowled at Nancy.
"Does Nolan like her? Why is he always looking lost whenever he sees her, who is she", Stacy thought.
"Hey… Nolan", she called and saw him turn and look at her.
"What are you looking at? Come on let us go back to class, remember what you asked me to teach you from the last Spanish class, I am ready now", Stacy said while standing up, she pulled him up before he could change his mind.
He stood up and looked at his friends.
"See you guys around", he said before turning to leave with Stacy, she held his arms and walked out with him.
Nancy saw them leaving, but she ignored them and kept talking with Jay.
"How has Westwood been so far? What university would you like to go to after high school?", Nancy asked and before Jay could respond, they noticed someone sitting opposite them.
Nancy looked up and saw Tara bringing out her lipgloss from her bag.
"Hey Tara..", Nancy excitedly said.
Tara who had not looked up or noticed who was sitting next to Nancy, pulled out her lipgloss and immediately applied it on her lips.
"Nancy… how is…..", Tara paused on seeing Jay.
The boy smiled at her.
Tara had never seen anyone with such pretty features, she slightly narrowed her eyes and smiled back at Jay.
"Who… who is this", Tara asked Nancy without looking at her.
"Jay… Jay this is Tara, I told you about her", Nancy introduced them. She noticed Tara's flirtatious expression but she did not want to jump to conclusions so she ignored it.
"Nice to meet you Tara, Nancy told me how you two met, I think it is wonderful to have great friends", Jay politely said.
Tara immediately felt butterflies in her stomach and a big thump in her heart on hearing his voice, she smiled coyly and nodded.
Nancy gave Tara a confused look, she looked at Jay who also looked confused about why Tara would not talk but kept smiling at him.
He suddenly looked at his wristwatch and hurried up.
"I need to see the principal, he asked me to see him and I am yet to do that… I will see you girls around, bye Tara nice to meet you again", Jay said.
He looked at Nancy and gave her a warm smile, "bye Nancy", he added before walking off.
The two girls waved at him.
Tara hit the table, "I am in love with that boy, oh my God, his face is so heavenly, he is tall and got pretty brown hair, he is the most beautiful boy in school right now… did you see his smile? Oh my! And his pretty eyes and… pretty nose", she exclaimed and gasped.
"I bet seeing him shirtless would drive me crazy!".
"Tara", Nancy called her delusional friend back to reality.
"Nancy, I want that boy".
