The result

After about five minutes, they both finished solving the question on the board, it was now time for the teacher to check and call the result.

"As you all can see, they both arrived at the same answer which I have check and they are both correct, now as we did in Sam and Jasmine, that's what we are going to do also, checking their time difference, and base on my observation, Lydia was three seconds quicker than Kiran, which made her the winner" said the teacher "Congratulations Lydia on making your group the winner of this competition,you have been awarded the number one brilliant person in this class" said teacher Andrew as he shook her hand.

"It's not quite fair, they should have been given another question, so they can go for it again" shouted one of the boys.

"If you think it's not fair, why don't you come and compete with her" said teacher Andrew which causes the boy to quiet his mouth.

"Kiran please follow me, I want to have a word with you" said the teacher which Kiran agreed to by walking out of the class with him.

"You did good Kiran, don't let this little defeat affect you in the future, instead use it as a way for you to study more, see her as a competitor which you have to win, do you understand me?" said the teacher.

"I understand you fully well sir" said Kiran.

"Good, now let's go back inside, I have an important announcement to make" said the teacher.

On getting back to the class, they could see some of the girls booing at the boys over the fact that they lost.

"Quiet down class, I have an important announcement to make, there would be a competition between class A and B, it's a minor competition to select the two people that's going to represent this school in this year most outstanding mathematics competition, so make sure to do your so you can get picked" said the teacher just in the nick of time before the bell was rang, signaling the end of his lesson and the arrival of a new teacher, "Good day class".

"Good day sir" replied the students in unison.

The moment the maths teacher left the class, Mikey quickly walked in before the other teacher could enter so as to not be told to stay outside or get punished. He quickly walked over to were Kiran and Caleb was, and sat down on the seat reserve for him.

"What happened, why are all the girls kind of looking down on us?" asked Mikey the moment he sat down, the behavior of the girls wasn't hard to spot on, because they were making it clearly obvious.

"We kind of had a little maths competition against them and they won by luck" said Caleb.

"Well winning and winning, there isn't anything like luck" said Mikey "but how come you guys lost to them?" asked Mikey.

"We were actually equal in points, till it was then the turn of Kiran and Lydia" said Caleb.

"Really, who won?, if I knew something like this would have happened, I wouldn't have gone to the infirmary, come on tell me what happened in details" said Mikey.

"What's there to tell you about, didn't I tell you they who already, Kiran lost to Lydia" said Caleb.

"I know dude, but what I want is details, how come Kiran has lost to her twice now" said Mikey.

"Thy both got the same answer, but Lydia was three seconds quicker than Kiran, that was how he lost" said Caleb.

"Kiran how's everything?" asked Mikey while grinning.

"Really Mikey?, do you intend to mock me?" asked Kiran while shaking his head.

"How could you have lost to her twice in a row, your position is slipping out of your hands every minutes" said Mikey while while patting Kiran shoulder "Wait, coming to think of it, how many people participated in this competition?" asked Mikey.

"It was five people in each group and we were picked using our last semester performance" said Caleb.

"Wait, those this means I was supposed to be in this competition, who took my place?" asked Mikey.

"As you were not present, Mark took your place, while Alex took his, they were next in line after you" said Caleb.

"If only I was in the competition, those smugness on their faces would have clearly been wiped off" said Mikey.

"Keep dreaming, why don't you and Helen go for it later, because she would have been your opponent in this competition" said Caleb.

Just when Mikey wanted to say something, he was interrupted by the presence of the teacher who walked into the class.

"Good afternoon class" greeted the female teacher with a stunting smile.

"Good afternoon ma" replied the students.

"My sincere apologies for not being here on time, I forgot some of my important things at my office when I was halfway here, so I went back to get them" said the teacher.

"It's okay ma, we understand" replied some students.

"Thanks very much for your understanding" said the female teacher, "Today we will me doing some oral text on the things I have taught so far, hope you guys are ready" said the teacher.

With every questions asked, Kiran it Lydia were quickly raising their hands to answer it like if they were competing with each other on who can answer more questions than the other. The worst part of it was that they were both getting it correctly.

Even the female teacher seem to have had enough of them, as she no longer permit them to answer any of the questions.

"We all know that both of you are intelligent, so no need to compete about it, let the others answer the question, so I can know they are part of this class" said the teacher.

The only time Lydia and Kiran were allowed to answer the questions was when none of the others were able to answer it.
