A maths quiz

On the scoreboard, Lydia came first while Karin second, Sam third, Jasmine fourth, Caleb fifth, Natalia sixth, Helen seventh, Mikey eighth, Mark ninth, Alex eleventh and so on.

"Where is Mikey, he clearly should have been in this group" said the teacher to those who were representing the boys.

"He isn't feeling too well, so he went to the school infirmary to get himself checked" said Kiran.

"Okay, then due to some minor changes, Alex will take his place, Mark will represent the fourth position while Alex the fifth, now let's start from the fifth position, Alex and Catherine please step forward and solve this question which I'm about to write on the board" said the teacher while going facing the board before writing the question.

Mikey was the one who was supposed to be in the fourth position, but due to the fact that he was not present, Mark has been assigned the fourth position and Alex the fifth.

After finish writing the question on the board, he gave both of them their respective marker to start solving for it.

The moment they were given the signal to start,they both quickly started solving. In not more than two minutes, both of them has already arriving at their answers. The whole marker board has been completely covered with calculation.

The teacher inspect both of their answer, because their answer were different from each other. After inspecting it, he called the result, the winner being Catherine.

"Alex you did well, but your answer came out wrong because of the complicated method you used" said teacher Andrew, "Now let's continue, Mark and Helen, get ready to solve the next question".

Alex and Catherine walked back to their respective group, Alex was kind of down because of his lost and the fact that the girls group was now cheering for Catherine was making his mood worst.

"Come on dude, don't think much about it, you. did your best, but next time don't go with a quick and complicated method, use the easy one, even if it will take you a lot of time" said Sam.

"You did well Alex" said Kiran while patting his shoulder.

After the teacher finished putting the question on the board, mark and Helen walked to the board to start for it, after solving for their answer, the teacher observe it and called the result, with Mark being the winner, making the competition a tie on the scoreboard.

"Now for the third party, Caleb and Natalia please step forward and get ready to solve this question" said the teacher.

After solving the question, the result was called with Caleb being the winner, now the boys were leading with the scoreboard being two to one.

"Sam and Jasmine, please step forward and answer the question on the board" said the teacher after putting the question on the board.

Sam and Jasmine quickly walked forward to the board the moment the teacher gave the go ahead to start solving for it.

This time around both parties were finding it difficult to solve fit it, because this question was a bit more difficult than the others that have been set.

Luckily for them, there was no time limit on this competition, so they took their time in solving it. After six minutes of solving, they both concluded their answer.

The result was called with Jasmine being the winner because she was the first to finish. Their answers were the same but due to the fact that Jasmine finished some few seconds before Sam, made her the winner.

The girls group all jumped up in joy as the result was called to their favour, they all knew that if Jasmine was to fail, then this would be the end of the competition for them. so the moment Jasmine was announced the winner, they all celebrated in immense joy.

Now it was the turn of Kiran and Lydia, the two people who has the chance of winning the competition for either of their team, the tie breakers in this competition. The scoreboard was now two to two, indicating a tie.

"Now without much saying, we all know the last parties, so Kiran and Lydia get ready to go for it" said teacher Andrew.

The teacher started writing the question on the board, the question along was like a long note itself, luckily the board was big enough for there to be enough space for them to start solving for it.

The question was a confusing and long one which could take close to forty five seconds just to read it.

"Okay, at the count of three, both of you should get started" said the teacher as he count for them to start.

Karin and Lydia didn't rushed to start like the way the others did theirs, instead they kept on reading the question over and over again before one of them manage to make a move.

The first person to make a move was Kiran, although it couldn't be considered a move because all he did was to break the question down by taking the meaningful words from it, which is better than nothing.

After reading the question over and over again, Lydia finally made her mind to start solving it.

Those in the class couldn't say anything because the question was something they haven't come across before or even know anything related to it. Even those who were among those selected were looking at the question in a dumbfounded way.

Everyone who were looking at Kiran and Lydia couldn't help themselves as they imagine them as robots, because the way both of them were solving for it in a face pace wasn't something they could keep up with.

Even the teacher was looking at his textbook once in a while to keep up with them. This was considered a fierce battle between the two smartest people in the class, and everyone was eager to know who is going to come out in first place.
