Monster Hunting (2)

"Ver, I think it's a D-Rank by the quantity of mana radiating off of it. we have to work together to take it down so forget about the competition," I yelled at her as I dashed for cover behind a tree.

"Hey! who gave you permission to shorten my name?!?" she said as she ran for cover.

"Is that really what you're worried about right now?" I shouted as I raised my rifle.

Training my rifle at the beast as it began emitting its blood lust, I pulled the trigger.

The beast howled as it turned its attention to us, its huge jaws wide open.

It roared as it swung its head towards me.

In a flash, I fired three rapid shots.

Two hits in the chest and the other on the forehead, it was knocked back by the shots.

I quickly aimed my rifle at the beast, pulling the trigger once more.

I cursed as the bullet missed and glanced at Vera, who had also missed her target.

"Fuck! these rifles suck I thought you said they were Specialized?" I cursed.

Normally a Specialized MSM such as a rifle would have an auxiliary spell cast on it to assist with aiming however it seemed these did not.

"They are supposed to be!" she yelled back as she fired several shots of her own.

"Well-" I began before my eyes went wide and I dove to the side as the tree I was using for cover exploded sending multiple flaming shards flying.

"Holy-, it can use the spell [Fire Ball]?" I muttered.

"No shit!" she spat back. "Now get your ass moving or we're both dead!" she yelled.

I jumped back to safety, seeing the monster charge towards us.

I turned my gaze to Vera.

She glared back at me, fire burning in her eyes as she pulled out a slender red bow from her spatial storage.

"Really? red... that's kind of demon like no?" I uttered cheekily before I could stop myself.

Her head creaked as her menacing gaze washed over me, raising one eyebrow she glared at me.

Raising one eyebrow back, I pointed toward the beast and shrugged.

Then she was off, leaving an afterimage in her wake.

I followed her into the thick foliage, my rapier in hand as I quickly scanned the area to make sure there were no other monsters waiting to ambush us.

I had decided I should pull out my MSM as well since this was no ordinary Monster Hunt.

We reached an area where the canopy was lower, allowing sunlight to shine through the branches that blocked out the sky.

I could feel the hot heat radiate from the ground below the trees, its energy making it hard to breathe.

"Let's work together here," I said to Vera who stood beside me, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared at the beast ahead.

"Agreed, I'll shoot from behind, you cover me," she said.

I was sure that the only reason she even wanted to hunt with me was to get closer to me.

So I might as well take advantage of it.

GROARRRRR-!!!!

The beast once again let out an earth-shaking cry.

'I guess somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.' I thought to myself as I got into an offensive position.

It's a good thing we decided to do this early and not wait until nightfall when things would be more dangerous.

"Ready?" I said to Vera.

Her face scrunched up in annoyance and she snapped, "I'm fine either way."

She was probably still annoyed from when I shortened her name.

"Let's go then," I said as I readied my rapier.

Nodding, she raised her bow as a glowing red arrow materialized on her bowstring.

This was the Spell that she possessed [Fire Arrow] which allowed her to materialize an arrow made of Fire-Type Elemental Particles.

She fired at the beast with a steady rhythm, hitting the beast in the leg.

The beast roared, its body shaking as it leapt high into the air.

It quickly formed a fireball in its mouth before sending it flying in Vera's direction.

However, since she was so focused on hitting the monster she didn't seem to notice.

Running with all the speed I could gather in my legs, I quickly dove at her sending us sprawling Not a second too soon as a massive steaming crater lay where she once stood.

"Really?" I heard her ask.

Turning my gaze, I finally noticed that my hand was on her chest.

"Seriously? Not the time…" I said through grit teeth.

She raised her eyebrows at me before quickly grabbing hold of me and rolling us to the side as something heavy impacted where we were lying.

"Definitely not the time…" we both muttered as we stood up and got ready to fight.

"You got a plan?" I shouted as the monster dashed at us again.

"No, you?" she shouted back, steadying her bow as she aimed it at the approaching bulldozer.

"I wouldn't have asked if I did," I said, before charging at the approaching beast.

Dashing ahead toward the beast, I channeled my Mana through my MSM and cast [Meteoric Blade].

My rapier was wrapped in a blue light as the blade emitted a powerful aura, quickly consuming a third of my mana.

SHINGGG-!!!

I swung my sword at the beast and watched it collide with the monster's front paw severing it cleanly.

A loud crunch could be heard as the creature fell to the ground, its stump gushing black blood everywhere.

The beast turned toward me as the severed appendage flopped around, before letting out a low roar, it lunged towards us with a terrifying speed.

Vera fired another arrow at it, this time it set the monster's front leg on fire as it bounded toward us, its jaw snapping.

For a second I thought we might have bought some time, however, I was sorely mistaken.

Snuff-!

The fire was quickly snuffed out and the creature leapt toward me.

I deftly dodged to the side as the ground where I previously stood was upended sending debris flying everywhere.

"Shit." I cursed as it swung its claws at me.

I raised my right arm to block the attack as I cast [Blockade] however due to my low man control and the high level of the beast it wasn't very effective, feeling the air leave my lungs as the claws of the beast hit my blade.

"Guh-!" I grunted, pain shooting through my ribs suddenly.

It seemed I hadn't noticed its other claw as it swung it into my rib cage.

I was thrown backward as Vera was flung away as well. We landed in a heap, gasping for breath as we struggled to rise to our feet.

We turned toward each other just in time to see a massive shadow loom above us.

The beast howled in triumph as its fanged maw opened wide.

Its mouth was filled with sharp fangs as black blood dripped down its chin.

It had two legs but its body was much larger than I expected, easily reaching twenty feet in length if not more. It had long muscular thighs and thick forearms with large muscles bulging from its backside. Its tail was whip-thin and was tipped with sharp curved blades. It had two eyes in its skull-shaped head; one was yellow with a slit pupil while the other was red with a black circle around it. Its eyes burned with an intense murderous intent as they locked onto us.

It was a nightmare come alive.

I watched as it gathered a large fireball in its mouth and shot it toward us.

I was about to close my eyes as I watched it fly toward us, my only regret being that I hadn't managed to survive long enough and maybe even found a way back to my sister.

I looked over at Vera next to me, her eyes wide with fear.

Now that I took a good look at her, she reminded me a lot of my sister and her constant bickering.

Chuckling deprecatingly, I waited for our fiery end to come.

The beast's jaws opened wide and an enormous fireball engulfed everything in sight.

That was the last thing I saw before everything went black.

hmmm maybe the whole reviews thingy wasn't a good idea, idk anyways though i guess I'll just post the illustration of Vera anyway 😜😜 but yeah hmmm let me know if you want an illustration of this fight scene.
