Wu Yi soon ran out of oxygen. He grabbed his throat as he began to panic. His chest rapidly moved up and down as he tried to fill his lungs with whatever was available. He began hyperventilating as he wheezed creating a horrifying sound. In the darkness, this was the only sound that could be heard. He could not even scream, as he fell deeper into the unknown darkness.

His heartbeat became faster and his chest moved up and down. He became dizzy and his vision became spotty. His eyes slowly began closing.

Thoughts of his impending death filled his tiny mortal brain. He completely closed his eyes and all that was left for him were the terrible memories of his past . They played in his mind over and over giving him not even a moment of peace as he fell into the cold embrace of death . He saw his childhood in the spirit mine working as hard as he could to try and attain even the smallest morsel of love from his 'father'. He remembered the beating he had gotten from supervisor Wu for not meeting his daily quota. He was just five years old but the man showed no mercy .Wu Yi had screamed in pain as he begged for mercy that never came .The whip ripped his back apart leaving him in a bloody mess.

This was the time he decided to give up all hopes of attaining love from this man .He decided to hold onto Old Man Mu who was more of a father to him than the supervisor .

He saw the face of the first person he had killed, the boy whom he had killed for the axe. He saw the boy's horrified gaze and his fear as he faded into the darkness of death.

He saw his torture in the Wu mansion and the death of Old Man Ma. He remembered the old man's words to him and the images of his death made him continue his struggle against certain death.

He saw his life in the Lion Heart Dojo and his subsequent rape and murder. He kicked in the darkness as he tried to scream but with his lungs empty, nothing came out. His feeble struggles came to an end as his body completely stopped moving. His mind could still work but all he could think about was what a waste his life had been. He had struggled for a good life and he got to enjoy it for just a few months after escaping the Wu mansion. Those months were the happiest of his life and also the saddest due to how they ended with the death of the only person he had ever loved in this world. To distract himself from his sad life, he forced himself to stop thinking about his memories and he instead began thinking about some of the stories he had read.

In all these stories, the hero was betrayed and he forced to jump off a cliff into some dangerous place where no one ever survived. The hero of the story somehow survives and not just that, he even finds some powerful inheritance from ancient times giving him great power. The hero comes back as a new person with great power ,determination and confidence . He then gets revenge against his enemies, becomes the most powerful person in the world and creates a harem of the most beautiful heroes. He then lives happily ever after.

In some books, the hero dies but he is somehow reincarnated with all his memories and sometimes ,he is even sent back in time giving him a chance to fix they mistakes .

Wu Yi was falling deeper in the darkness but when he remembered these stories, he somehow found the energy to smile. His smile was not that of happiness but from the realization that he was not the hero of the story. He was not the protagonist in his life story. He was probably not even worthy of being a side character in the story of life. This realization was something very few people ever reached or accepted. Everyone thought they were the protagonist of their story. They go through life trying to prove this to themselves not knowing that they were nothing in the grand design of the world. This was a harsh realization but Wu Yi came to accept it. He could not stop himself from smiling widely as he plummeted to his death.

His life had been a complete waste, If he had realized this sooner, he might have made better decisions to save himself from all the pain and suffering. He realized that he did not have to try seeking vengeance on the Wu family. Not immediately. After all, revenge is a dish best served cold. After reaching the second level of cultivation, he should have escaped immediately instead of sticking around hoping that things would naturally work out in his favour since he was the one with righteous vengeance burning in his heart .The world did not work like this. Even if he was the one owed a debt, the world did not care. He began analyzing his life from the moment he could remember his childhood to his night with Daoist Jade Lion.

'Since the heavens have decreed that I am not the hero of this story, I will be the villain for all ages' thought Wu Yi as he began trying to cultivate. His spirit had been shattered but he was not ready to give up. He was determined to do as he pleased in this life. He was determined to have his way. He was determined to be the villain to be sung about for all ages. He began absorbing qi from the surroundings and the moment the first strand of qi entered his body, it passed through his meridians and entered the space where his Spirit used to be.

Wu Yi had wanted to avoid the loss of his cultivation if his Spirit were ever shattered but he had yet to strengthen it further when it was destroyed. Wu Yi hoped that the uniqueness of his spirit could be of help. He had gained full control over his spirit and this was his only hope for survival. The stand of Qi stayed stationary as it had nowhere to go. At this moment, Wu Yi began cultivating as though his spirit still existed. The strand of qi moved in circles and to Wu Yi's eternal joy, the qi formed a circular grey ball that looked like his spirit. It began small but as he absorbed more qi, it became larger. Wu Yi made the new spirit rotate as fast as he could force it. He put all his willpower and soul into cultivating as fast as he could. He wanted to regain his cultivation so that he could stand a better chance at survival. He did all this but he had forgotten something very crucial. Daoist Jade Lion had destroyed his heart leaving it in pieces. Even if he were to regain his cultivation, he was already dead.

Wu Yi subconsciously chose to forget this little piece of information as he absorbed qi as fast as he could.

Booom, he felt an explosion in his body, he had regained his cultivation as a Spirit Gathering cultivator. His spirit rotated in the anti-clockwise direction faster and faster. He wanted to break through to an even higher level but he did not have the cultivation skill for the fourth stage. He did not even know what it was called.

Still, he was determined to break through to a higher level.

At this moment, his blood circulation finally ceased completely. He lost consciousness and in a few seconds, he was dead. His Spirit continued rotating and absorbing qi from the surroundings as though it would never stop even if Wu Yi was dead. It had been imbued with its owner's will to continue absorbing qi. Bang, Wu Yi's body finally hit the ground. All his bones were broken and his organs torn asunder. Blood pooled around him and his body became completely lifeless.

He was dead and there was no coming back from death.
