"Uhm, where are we? What do you mean summoned heroes?" Aiko stared at the old man with a staff.
"You are summoned to this world, Tortus, by the God, Ehit, to save this land from its darkness." The old man calmly said.
"What do you mean save this land?! They are just students! Bring us back home!" Aiko shouted at the old man.
"Unfortunately, I do not know of such a way to return you." The old man said as the others despaired by the thought of not being able to come back. Many are worried about their parents, friends, and family.
"Everyone, since we don't have any way to return back home, why don't we help them in cleansing the lands from darkness? Maybe we can find a way back home after completing our mission." Kouki suddenly stood up gaining everyone's gaze towards him.
'Ah. Forgot about him. The local idiot. Well, he could make things easier with him around.' Vergil thought as he eyed Hajime, who was one of the people despairing about the fact that there's no way back home.
"I'll fight with you." Ryutarou said as he supported his friend.
"What are you saying?! Its dangerous!" Aiko shouted once more but her words only entered their ear and came out of the other.
"Well, if its you guys then I'll fight with you." Shizuku said adding support to Kouki.
"If Shizuku is in, I'll join and fight with you guys as well." Kaori said as she looked at Hajime with a sad face.
"Of course we won't let you fight the demons of the land without preparing you all. What you see in front of me, is a profession ball. The profession you will get, depends on your body's stats and potential. You will also get skills accordingly with your own profession." The old man said making everyone marvel except Vergil.
"Woah, then isn't it like an RPG game? Like leveling up and getting stronger!" Hiyama said, gaining the interest of everyone in the room, of course, except Vergil.
"Yes, the more monsters you slay and level up, the more you'll get stronger." The old man said.
"How does it work then?" Hiyama asked excitingly.
"Just place your hand on the profession ball and it'll grant you the job that suits you the most." The old man said and Hiyama immediately placed his hand on the ball.
"Please, we have rooms containing profession balls. It would be faster if you use the room and we will start training immediately." The old man said as he gestured the knights with his eyes. The knights then lead the students one by one to the rooms with profession ball.
"Woah, I've got a fighter profession!" Hiyama shouted. His excitement got carried over to the students who became excited at their own prospects as well, except Vergil.
"Please, follow me to the special room and place your hand on the profession ball to be granted with a profession fit for you." The knight said to Vergil who followed behind him silently.
Entering the room with a passive expression, Vergil looked around to see nothing in the room but a small crystal ball. Vergil placed his hand on top of the ball and the profession ball shined light to the dark room. A string line of words suddenly appeared in front of Vergil.
[Shadow Samurai]
'Is that it? Well, that was anticlimactic.' Vergil thought as he went out the room.
"Did it go well?" The knight who brought Vergil to the room asked.
"Yes. What now?" Vergil asked.
"Let me bring you to the Grand Hall." The knight said as they walked to the Grand hall. A few students were already there bragging about their classes or profession.
Vergil sat down at a random and almost wanted to plop down and sleep.
"What kind of class did you get?" Shizuku whispered to him.
"Nothing special. Just Shadow Samurai." Vergil said making Shizuku raise her eyebrow.
Nothing special? What she got was a samurai, that's all, and Vergil got a different samurai class, if that wasn't something special then her class was trash.
"What are you planning to do?" Shizuku asked Vergil.
"Nothing, first of all, I'm not an idiot who believes that just because they summoned us and gave us a class, they're the good guys. Did you guys already forget? They're the ones who summoned us here with no way back." Vergil said in a muffled voice as his head was plopping down the table.
Shizuku thought of what Vergil said and frowned deeply. Why did they summon them in the first place? If they got the profession balls, why not use it on their soldiers or citizens to fully utilize their strength?
"Vergil, what class did you get?" Hajime's voice entered Vergil's other ears.
"Nothing special. Just Shadow Samurai." Vergil answered as if on auto pilot.
"Well, I got the synergist class. Although I don't know what it does, I'll do my best to help everyone." Hajime said in a cheerful voice. Of course with Hajime being cheerful, Kaori, who's been glancing at the smiling Hajime became happy.
'Ah, another local idiot who wants the happiness of everyone.' Vergil thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Hiyama saw it all happened and thought of causing trouble for Hajime but after looking at Vergil, natural fear took over Hiyama as he trembled in place.
"Hiyama, You alright?" Kondou asked Hiyama.
"Yeah, I'm fine, thanks." Hiyama replied as he regained his body functions. He steeled his heart that if he's stronger than Vergil, he'll make him pay back all the humiliation he felt.
Vergil sensed the malice, he's not dumb to know who that was, the taste of power, he and his master knew it all too well. Hiyama thought that because he got power inside him, he gotta trample down those below him or just plain Hajime since he's a love rival for Kaori.
"Everyone! Settle down!" Kouki's voice gained the attention of everyone, with the exception of Vergil.
"Let me introduce to all of you, our kingdom's Hero Class bearer, Kouki Amanogawa." The Old man with the staff or the Head priest said. Many students clapped in joy while others in envy.
"We will give you your own status plates that would record all your body stats." The head priest said as he motioned for Kouki to sit down at the lead table.
"Before we start the training, let's have a feast. A little celebration for our heroes!" The head priest said as he stabbed his staff in the ground and the doors opened. Batch of servants in maid outfits started coming out with trays in their hands. Now this gained Vergil's attention.
Some of them have collars in their neck while some of them have one in their wrist, and others in their ankles. It is faint but Vergil felt mana swirling around the choker, if not for his astounding senses, he would've missed it.
"Your type?" Shizuku asked when she saw the maids gaining Vergil's attention.
"Nope. Just curious as to what those chokers are." Vergil said and Shizuku understood why it gained his attention.
"Do you think that they're-" Shizuku stopped and looked at everyone chomping on the food to make sure that no one is listening to their talk.
"Slaves or they just like to wear a choker." Vergil said and Shizuku lowered her head while forming her own thoughts.
"Anyway, I'll just do what I want and enjoy this life of luxury." Vergil said as he started eating.
After the celebration, the Head Priest stood up and walked into the middle.
"Since you've all had your fill, let's begin your training. Meld!" The Head Priest shouted and a well-built man with short spiky brown hair and a short beard appeared. He had a small scar on the left side of his chin.
"He is the Knight Commander of the Heiligh Kingdom and will oversee your training." The head priest said.
"Pleasure to meet you, heroes from the other world. Before we start training, do assess your stats." As if on cue, the maids came out and placed a little stone tablet in front of the students.
"Those tablets are your status plates. Just say [Status] and your stats will come out of the tablet as well as your class skills." Meld said and a lot of people started saying status to share see their stats. A lot of people were disappointed when they saw their stats, like Hajime, who got E on all his stats. Vergil on the other hand, had all B-rank stats.
"How did you do?" Shizuku asked Vergil.
"So-so." Vergil replied.
"Are you all done? If so, let's go to the training room and start your basic training." Meld said as he motioned everyone to follow him.
