“I guess they’ll be doing a lot more laps,” Jizelle said, “until Roger quits and gives in.”
“Jojo always wins?”
“In swimming, yes. Roger’s a good swimmer, but Jojo’s been swimming since he was two. We used to have a pool at the house.”
“Yes, I saw that. Now it’s a rose garden. Was there a reason that the family doesn’t have a pool anymore?” Adam asked.
“We had a pool until Julius passed.” Jizelle paused. “When my parents went to Lourdes, where they made a pilgrimage, I went back to school. Jojo hired a company to get rid of the pool and put in the rose garden. He didn’t tell anyone. He didn’t get permission. I wasn’t there, but I heard my parents were extremely upset with Jojo when they found out.”
“That’s weird. I know Jojo loves to swim.”
