Chapter Nineteen

Sunset of the third day came too early, too fast. Amaris sat at the table of the small dining room, their own little planning and preparation base for the past two days. The chosen group of infiltrators around her were all as anxious as she was, all trying to hide it just as much as she was. She watched her friends silently as she divided the small metal balls into seven equal piles.

Ash and Ombretta sat in a corner talking quietly while they cleaned the pistols. Mirage was watching them silently, that same calculating gaze in his eyes, the one she was so terrified of when she first met him. She did not blame him this time. Ombretta was too recent an addition to this crew. Too new, too unpredictable. It felt reckless to make her part of the plan.
