Chapter 16

"Nah, I think I'm gonna head home and cook something up for myself. Besides, Brock told me he had plans tonight, Ellie's moving into their new place, and since Troy's classes started back up already I figured you and mom would like to have the house all to yourselves." I reasoned before hoisting myself up off of the small sofa and put my vest I'd discarded earlier back on.

"I knew there was a reason you were always my favorite kid." He joked before following me out of the office and seeing me to the door.

Pushing my apartment door open with my shoulder, I struggled with the numerous grocery bags my hands were overloaded with.

"Mm, what's for dinner? I'm starving" A gravely voice called from right behind me. I shrieked before flying around and dropping all of the bags. My hand flew to my chest as I struggled to breath.
