The Grimms were hot on their heels. Their breaths came in desperate, ragged gasps. Their hearts pounded in terror. And the heat of the molten streams seared their lungs with each inhale.
Unconsciously, Spheris was running behind the two girls, a role that seemed incongruous given he was considerably faster than the two. But there he was, putting his life in danger to protect them.
The Grimms however, were closing in on them quickly, their snarls echoing through the fiery air. But the trio continued forward, knowing they had a chance to outrun the creatures.
But that was before they a Grimm pack appeared in front of them. Hurriedly and in unison, they diverged and managed to squeeze through the tight space between them and the incoming pursuers. But no matter which direction they turned, they found themselves met with a wall of snapping jaws and gnashing teeth.
"They've got us cornered," Cerene spoke in a frightened murmur.
