Chapter 32

After the damage inflicted on his career and reputation, Lawyer Lawson became a wounded animal. He went from being fearful and wanting to hide his tail to baring his teeth out in search of an ally just so he could destroy the Ford group. Yet, despite the pain and loss, Lawson was smart enough to know that the Ford group wasn't an easy enemy and could crumble on his own; he had to search for allies.

Someone reached out to him with a promise of a big reward if he sabotaged the Ford group. Being smart enough to have run one of the most successful law firms in the country, Lawson knew that the Ford group was just a cover-up. Mr. Ford was the one that this mysterious person was going after.

He was stupid for accepting the offer without meeting the face behind everything, but the milk had already spilled. Mr. Ford didn't even give him a moment before he ended his career. Having heard that the Ford group had turned their back on Lawson, most people couldn't be seen rendering help to him for fear of falling down too.

Lawson his home every day because his face was plastered all over social media. He thought that going quiet and disappearing from the public eye would erase his memory from the public. But unfortunately, he forgot the strength that social media held primarily in keeping history. The worst part was that the most powerful man in the country was after him.

Lawson went from holding his head high to want to disappear into his home. The wife who treated him as a king now spat when she saw him. Well, who would blame her? She, who always flaunted herself proudly like a peacock because of her husband's riches and influence, was hiding too.

While exposing his corruption, Arnold did well enough to spread Lawson's adultery and dirty deeds. He was indeed a promiscuous one.

Now standing outside a mansion, he rang the bell with determination. With the bit of influence and money that he had, Lawson could track himself to the home of his supposed backer. He would be a fool to leave empty-handed after offering his neck to the enemy while trying to work for him.

Seeing the despair on Lawson's face, one could tell how everything worked out. Yes, the deal was tempting, but for someone who could stabilize his foot in the corporate world because of the Ford group, he was stupid enough to throw caution to the wind. The enemy might have believed that Lawson would have succeeded, but after his failure on the first attempt, he might have turned his back on him.

No one would blame him; he didn't want any of Lawson's sins to be traced back to him. But unfortunately, Lawson did have a lot of dirt on him for a man who worked in the law sector. One that was so strong to drag whoever was associated with him down the drain too.

"Who are you, and what do you want here?" Lawson looked up at the man who approached. He seemed to be a bodyguard or a right-hand man.

Whoever was inside must have wanted to scare him because he sent the bulkiest and most built-up man. "Did he send you to scare me off?"

They had really forgotten that he was wounded and angry; there was nothing more to lose at this point. "Go in and tell whoever sent you out that I am going nowhere. He was brave enough to look for him; now, he hides like a little pussy. I can just hand everything over to Mr. Ford; it would be his turn to crumble. And I know he is so powerful, so he may not go down completely like me, but we all know who Alexander Basil Ford is." Lawson must have ruffled some feathers because another person was coming from the inside towards the gate.

His idea must have really worked. He guessed whoever was inside must be listening in and watching. They underestimated him to think he was going down without a fight. Ford group pushed him to the point of no return, but the person inside set him up as bait for the sharks, and he would be a fool to silently turn back.

"The boss says to let him in" Another man dressed just as the bulky one delivered the message causing a smirk on Lawson's lips.

"He surely does know how to pick you out. Was ugly one of the qualifications to work here? Hahaha," It was definitely a win for Lawson, especially after seeing how the men's jaws were tightened. He laughed more.

Unknown to Lawson, though, the bulky man was praying for an order just so he could rip off his head. The nerve of the short thing to come and threaten their boss in his territory. He surely knew nothing of whoever was inside.

Lawson was led inside the gigantic structure and mesmerized by the beauty. Whoever owned this place was undoubtedly rich and not one to be messed with. He was at his last with luck and would be damned if he left this place without a fair deal.

When Lawson met with the man himself, he couldn't believe his eyes. "I now understand why you wanted to go against the Ford group. But why not stand head to head with him? I believe that you have the resources to do so?"

"I don't understand what you mean," The man behind the office table said, and he squashed the head of the cigar in the ash bowl.

"I might look so stupid for you to feign ignorance. I know that the Ford wasn't your direct target, and I can confidently say that Mr. Ford was it. Putting him down would mean crumbling the Ford group" Lawson was not an idiot.

The little speech from Lawson might have hit home because the supposed boss became colder towards him, but that wasn't what Lawson meant for. He just wanted to let the mighty man get off his high horse and realize that he understood him well.
