Tragedy (Chapter 1)

Jay is a normal kid that came from a normal background. The only thing that differentiates him from others is that his parents died a long time ago. Back then he was six years old, his parents went out with some colleagues to celebrate the new year. They got into an accident with a truck on the way back from the party. Based on the police investigation results Jay's parents might be too drunk and can't control the car and crashed straight into the truck. Jay attended the funeral without knowing what happened and only came to know about it a few years later after his mind was more developed.

During the funeral his parents' colleagues attended it and said sorry for his loss but one particular one asked him whether he wanted to live with her. She probably felt responsible since it was her idea to party till late at night. Her name was Alice, she took care of Jay like her own son and always made sure that he was not reminded of the tragedy.

When Alice took Jay in he learnt about his new step dad named Ben and his three-year old step sis. Jay's step sis was named Iris. Jay got along with everyone, especially Iris. She does not have many partners to play with, so Jay became her playmate and immediately fit in the family.

On Iris's thirteenth birthday Ben said he'll be running late so he asked everyone to eat the cake without him. Everyone at their dinner without Ben. After dinner Alice went and put Iris into her bed. Jay waited in the living room to watch television. After a few hours Alice made Jay sleep in his room and returned to the living room to wait for Ben. While waiting she was watching the news. It talked about an accident that happened quite close to their house. Alice got interested and continued watching. Then she heard something that she hoped that she didn't hear at all. Her husband got into an accident and was found dead.

She went to her bedroom and wept throughout the night and didn't get any actual sleep.

The next morning Jay found his step mom awake at 7 am. She usually wakes up after 8. So he asked her "Mom, what's wrong? Why're you up earlier than usual? Did something happen?". Hearing this Alice broke down into tears and hugged Jay tightly and said "Ben is not here anymore. Your father got into an accident yesterday" Hearing this Jay got into an emotional hurricane and was trying his best to hold in his tears.

After hearing about the news last night, Alice informed Ben's relatives about invitation to his funeral.

2 days after hearing the news Jay got ready for his second funeral he's attending in his life. Iris that doesn't know what's going on is comforting her Mom that's feeling down. Looking at this scene something wells up in Jay's chest 'I'll definitely protect them from any harm'.
