A Night of Apologies

"Lai, can you believe this?" Zhihao playfully pouted, directing his attention to Lai, "He ignores my calls, my messages – it's like I'm the forgotten older brother."
"Who's my older brother, you?" Bai rolled his eyes, looking at the menu in his hand, "Since when? I only have a younger brother."

They continued with their banter. Lai, who had been quietly observing their banter, couldn't suppress a soft laugh at Zhihao's theatrics and Bai's feigning nonchalance. The sound rippled through the air, catching both Bai and Zhihao by surprise.
They turned their gaze towards her, the playful banter momentarily halted by the melodic sound. Caught off guard, Lai quickly stopped laughing and offered an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt," she cleared her throat, "Your banter just caught me off guard, and I found it really amusing and somewhat cute."
