Another Boring Day

'Whosh! I am so tired!'

Aiden said as he tossed his socks into the laundry basket. He just returned from school and exhaustion had taken the best out of him.

As he stepped into his room,Aiden couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. The room was dark, and his eyes took a moment to adjust to the dim lighting. The streetlights out side let out a dim dull light into his room.

Aiden dragged his exhausted feet across the floor, each step feeling like a heavy burden. He collapsed onto his bed, feeling the softness of his sheets caressing his tired body.

'Why is life so boring?'

As he closed his eyes, he couldn't help but sigh heavily, the weight of the day weighing him down like a ton of bricks.

His gaze drifted to the mirror in the corner of the room, revealing a reflection of his lean and malnourished frame.

'I have to take care of myself well. It seems like the snacks I have been taking are finally showing results'

He couldn't help but feel a pang of self-consciousness, as he realized just how much weight he had lost due to his hectic schedule and lack of proper nutrition.

As he lay there, his mind wandered to the app he had been working on for months. It was a project Aiden had been pouring all his time and energy into, and it was finally starting to show some signs of progress.

Early this morning, he had finished the programming the app and he had started the build process before heading out to school, hoping that by the time he got back, it would be ready.

'Hopefully... it is done...'

He muttered, dragging himself up from the bed, his eyes heavy with sleep, and made his way over to the computer. Jumping from one place to the other, Aiden was able to make to his computer without stepping on any wire or clothe littered on the floor. He sat down in front of his computer, staring at the dark screen.

"Wait, it's still loading?" he gasped as he realized that the build process was taking an exceptionally long time. He had never heard of an app taking this long to build. He had been working on this project for months, and it was frustrating that it still wasn't ready.

As he stared at the loading bar, Aiden remembered how it had only been at 10% when he had left for school early in the morning. He had expected it to be done by the end of the day, but it was still stuck at 83%.

"Seriously? It has been 10 hours already. What kind of application takes so long to build? Or is it because my computer is an old one?"

Aiden said as he stared at the computer screen angrily. He couldn't believe that the build process had taken so much time. For a moment, he even considered punching the computer with his fists however, he decided to stop when he realized that it was still stuck at 83%.

'I have come this far... I have to calm down. I am sure it will be done in a few hours,'

Aiden sighed, realizing that he would have to wait for sometime before it finishes. He glanced around the room, taking in the mess around him.

'Sigh, I guess I will clean this room tomorrow. For now, I should be resting. I am too tired!', he thought as he looked around.

He knew he should clean up, but the exhaustion had gotten the better of him. He decided to take a quick nap while the app built. After checking his digital watch and realizing it was already 6:15 in the evening, he yawned lazily and sank back onto the bed.

The night arrived quickly, shrouding the world in a cloak of darkness. The crisp air carried the scent of damp earth and distant smoke, while the sound of rustling leaves and chirping crickets filled the silence creating a peaceful atmosphere. Rows of houses lined up by the side of the street, their windows aglow like tiny stars in the night sky.

In one of these many houses, the moonlight cast a pale glow, illuminating the face of a young teenager deep in slumber.

It has been a few hours since Aiden fell asleep and the clock had already hit 11:50 pm. However, at this moment, Aiden was still lost in his dream world as he lay on his bed. All of a sudden, the still, quiet room was suddenly interrupted by the ringing of a very familiar ring tone.

*Cring, Cring, Cring*

The alarm clock jumped into life as its loud pealing disturbed the peace in Aiden's room. Despite of this noise Aiden continued to sleep oblivious of the noise coming from the clock.

After 10 minutes, the loading bar finally hit 100% announcing it's completeness with a ping. Just then, a small spark erupted in the room. The crack started to spread and soon, Aiden's room was filled with countless of these sparks.

The room was silent as the sparks of electricity started to appear at random places, crackling through the air.

Suddenly, the sparks started to spread rapidly, forming cracks in space. At this moment, all the clothes scattered on the floor started to levitate a few metres above the ground. A while later, a huge rift appeared in the room, dragging the objects in the room frantically towards it. As the various clothes and objects entered into the room rift, the rift's force of attraction started to increase as it pulled the unaware Aiden into it.

From start to finish, Aiden remained asleep, unaware of the strange event that was happening around him.

*****

"Where am I?"

Aiden said as his eyes fluttered open. His vision was cloudy and he couldn't see the things around him properly. Standing up from the 'floor', he started to immediately inspect his surroundings. However, because his vision was clouded by what seemed like tears, he couldn't identify anything around him apart from absolute darkness.

Rubbing his eyes with his hands, Aiden proceeded to inspect his body. Looking around confusedly, as he reorganized his memories only to remember that he was very tired after school and proceeded to sleep. Remembering this, Aiden found something strange.

'I don't feel a shred of tiredness. Could I have slept for too long?'

Aiden pondered as he hurriedly checked on the time on his watch only to realize that he couldn't see anything. Not even his own hands!

This pretty much made Aiden more unnerved. Just a few hours ago, he was tired and went to bed and then he finally woke up and realized that the fatigue which led him to sleep was gone. Yes, he didn't feel tired at all. He felt absolute refreshed and alive as if he had never worked or he just woke up from a really long sleep.

"Where the hell am I?" Aiden muttered as he stared at the space surrounding him. He couldn't see anything at all. He was surrounded by darkness at all sides.

The more he inspected the environment, the more unnerved he became. Moreover, he just realized something. It almost seemed and felt like he was moving but he didn't know why. It was as if some one was pushing him slowly somewhere but since he couldn't observe his environment really well, he couldn't confirm the truth. From the start to the finish, everything felt like a nightmare.

Just as Aiden was lost in his thoughts, a small blue light appeared in the dark, empty void. This small blue light immediately attracted Aiden's attention because it was the only source of light in the entire space.

'Huh, what is that?'

Aiden said as he stared at the blue light. He tried to reach up to it but it seemed like he wasn't moving at all. Sighing, Aiden shook his head. It seemed like he couldn't move for sure.

At this moment, the blue light started to expand quickly as it grew a few metres in radius in seconds.

'It's growing bigger?'

Aiden grew ecstatic from the fact that the blue light was growing larger. He was really hoping that that would happen. If the ball continued to grow bigger for sometime, it would take a few minutes for him to see where he is in an instant. By now, he could already see his hands and feet even though he couldn't see what was around him.

"Hmm? Wait?!" Aiden said staring at the blue ball which had already grown hundreds of metres in radius, "Why does it seem like it's becoming hotter?"

A few minutes after the ball of light had started to grow, Aiden started to feel the temperature rising. At first however, he hadn't been too concerned. Yet, as the ball grew larger, the temperature continued to grow and soon enough, it became unbearable even for Aiden.

Feeling the temperature continue to rise, Aiden realized something was seriously wrong. The moment Aiden realized this, he immediately understood something.

'Wait! It's not growing larger. It's already big it just that it's heading towards me!'

Aiden thought panicking at the sight of the ever-growing blue light. His ecstasy immediate turned the opposite way as he started to panic.
