In the search for a publisher

Chapter 3: In the search for a publisher

The following days passed very calmly and nothing special happened to Hayen. He got a call from the construction site for a new job, but Hayen declined politely and said: „Thank you, but I have found a better job!"

In reality Hayen bet with himself to copy the novel in five days and try to publish it in one month.

And so five days passed and Hayen finished copying the book.

„Finally, this is really a masterpiece. Whoever wrote this book should get the price for best author!" Hayen said happily while putting his hands in ice bags. His hands were red and swollen after five days of nonstop typing. The other people in the Internet cafe thought that he was going crazy and they all tried to ask him what he was doing, but to no avail. He was silent like a rock and ignored everyone while writing.

„I have enough money to stay in this Internet cafe for another month and for white bread and cream cheese for a month. The rest must be saved!" hayen was already planning the next month and how he should give out his money.

„I am lucky enough to have worked in the summer, if not the 500$ dollars would never be enough." Hayen sighed internally while looking at his aching hands, but he knew that it was worth it and that he would be successful publishing this book.

„I should start writing to publishers!" said Hayen after a short break and a cup of water.

He copied the first 50 pages of the book and put them in a different document, then he wrote an email that could be sent to many publishers without having to change anything. Then he googled: „top ten novel publishers and how to contact them."

Shortly after that he found the emails of the publishers for authors who wanted to publish their books. The publishers didn't need too much, only a probe of the book and a letter presenting the book and the author. So, it was what he expected. They also wrote that they would make an investigation to see if any copyrights were violated.

And then he sent a dozen of emails to all the publishers he found in his google research. Only then he was able to relax and to sleep profoundly, because it was already dark outside and he was very tired too.

The next morning in many publishing houses an email was opened by the workers there like every day. Usually, there weren't many emails sent to these email addresses, because there weren't enough new authors to make the publishing houses feel pressured. If three to ten authors send them a new book every month, then it could be said that it was a good month. But the publishing houses didn't care that much, because they worked with established authors that published books regularly.

It could be said that an author is like an idol, he or she would become famous with a bestseller and they would have to take part in public activities and travel around to see their fans. But if your book fails, then it will be as if you didn't even exit at first. Your published book will become only a ghost in libraries and no one will ever pay attention to them.

So, few people dared to publish a book, even if they have written one. They would push it back because of insecurity and because they fear failure.

In the number one publishing house in the country, a veteran editor opened the file in the email he got yesterday evening.

„Let's what we got today, if it is some noob s*hit again, I will kill myself!" This veteran editor worked for decades in this publishing house and he has always been in charge of finding new books to publish, which meant that he had to read a lot in work time and to find a suitable book with potential. The problem is that such books are very rare.

„The last time I found a bestseller was three years ago and if I don't find anything new soon, then I shall forget my bonuses!" The man was frustrated after so many years, he wanted a little fame in his company soon or they would forget about him.

And then he started to read the book with the title: The Immortal tale of the Lion Guardian

The same situation was happening in other publishing houses around the country.

Only a little time later, the same situation happened: All those people jumped from their desks with a copy of the probe in their hand and ran to the head editor.

In one of the publishing houses…

„Team leader, I have found gold! I have the next Harry Potter in my hands! A real goldmine!" the person shouted excitedly.

„What are you talking about, show it to me." The team leader wasn't a polite person at all, he grabbed the copies from his hand and began to read. Only to stop a few pages later and said rapidly: „Contact this person and bring him to me!"

…..

Hayen, who woke up on his desk feeling his neck aching and seeing his picture on the screen in front of him and the empty spaces beside him, had no idea what he had caused at all. He would have never imagined that publishing houses worked so hard and fast to find new books, but he will know it soon, when he opens his email account later in the day.

For him this day was a day he wanted to continue exploring new pages, since he didn't have the opportunity in the last few days. He wanted to find new valuable information that could make him rich too.
