The Iceberg

Started with a dream, Rumi a commoner with only his dying mother by his side, and a past filled with tragedy finally finds and pursues love. Fighting the endless, vague dreams- tormented by faceless silhouettes. With many obstacles yet to conquer, and misfortunes to avert. Will he in the end meet love and happiness, or dwell in the endless void of nothingness? 'Darkness enveloping, alone I stood in my infinite depth of misery- all alone. Suddenly. A sharp blinding light illuminated in front of me, cutting through the darkness. Leading me towards a path. I sprinted ahead to keep up, when I saw- a silhouette...'

The 4 Horsemen

"Thank you..." Were the only words she managed to say to me.

"Oh my... and here I thought we were friends." I smiled cheekily. "However, I didn't expect him to leave you so easily." I finished.

"Why would you do that?" She asked me, her expression numb.

"Would I do what?"

"To get rid of Jonas (Her bodyguard, aka the man in black.) and have a walk with me in this park."

This was the first time I noticed that we were in the same park from back when we had first arrived here, 'Was it Highland Park' I thought to myself when I felt a light tug on my black T-neck, which was also borrowed from the man in black.

"Cuz I wanted you to get some freedom. I'm confused at the thought of why was he so easy to get rid of?" I was bewildered by how easy going the bodyguard actually was.

"I'm still not alone, Rumi." Was the only thing she said, and looked straight ahead towards a lady with a stroller.

"Oh, don't tell me she's..." I stopped mid-sentence as I saw her nodding and hiding her face.

After a few minutes of idle strolling I snatched her away from their sniper view and rushed her towards a vacant bike and quickly shoved her in the back seat, I looked either side, and dashed towards the exit. The wind blocked the angry voices coming from afar, were they of her bodyguards or of the angry owner of the bike, I will never know.

"Rumi!!" She grabbed my shoulders tightly.

"Careful there tiger! I don't have a spare one." I screamed and chuckled softly.

I slithered through the New York traffic, and when it got crowdier. Yes, yes I chose the sidewalk (Pavement in British English) I was roaring on top of my voice to shove people away from our little detour. I couldn't hear any sort of resentment in their voices, it's not like New Yorkers aren't angry or anything, I couldn't hear them because of Sasha. Her silvery voice laughing in the back, there was this imaginary void which only we shared, and the rest was a blur. Then a light tap on my shoulders extended that void into reality.

"Let's go back." She said with disappointment in her voice.

"Aight." I answered and this time took the road back to the park. I didn't want to disturb additional 'happy' New York pedestrians.

The atmosphere while going back to the park wasn't like before, although I couldn't see her sullen face, I knew she wasn't very enthusiastic to go back to her 'guardians'. As we grew closer to the park her grip became stronger on my shoulders, which led towards me twitching and struggling for control. The bike wiggled and weaved it's way towards the main entrance, where 4 exhausted guards were waiting for it's arrival, and an angry owner itching for revenge.

"You brats! Do y'all have a death wish?!" He shouted and reached for Sasha. The minute his hands reached her, the 4 'Horsemen' quickly forgot their weariness and each of them held one of his limbs.

The gardener cosplay guy, who was looking quite old for this job, first reached next to him and held his left arm. The stroller lady, who was wearing a really uncomfortable costume, held his other arm. The two twins, who were wearing matching pinafores, with perfect coordination each held one leg, making the old owner squint, struggle, and freeze in his stance.

When the gardener released his grip, the others followed suit.

"It would be better if you could keep your hands to yourself sir." The gardener bowed.

"Yeah... umm." The owner struggled. He shrugged and after a few moments of awkwardness, walked backwards, towards the safety of grass.

"Sir atleast take your bicycle with you!" The two twins exclaimed in unison. "It's a bike, you moron! we're not in the UK anymore." They both corrected each other in unison again. They're interlocking voices made it feel like it was echoing.

"No... No ummm you can keep that. Com... compensation for troubling you." He smiled and slowly went deeper in the park, finally he turned and ran as if there were dogs chasing him. 'I thought he was old, many people sure look older than they are in New York' I thought to myself.

The gardener turned towards me, at that moment reality struck me, 'it's me next' but to my astonishment he completely ignored me and looked towards Sasha.

"Ma'am are you alright? I'm truly sorry my team wasn't prepared for..." He looked towards me and I swear I could see pure hatred in his eyes, "his..."

"What should I tell my father then?" Sasha interrupted him. "Hmm... what would he do if he knew, you couldn't even stop a 19 year old kid to 'kidnap' me."

'Kidnap? I'm dead, aren't I?'

"We're extremely sorry." the pupils of his eyes shifted from hatred towards utter shock.

"Well... Rumi, what should we do with Ralph here?" Sasha turned towards me, her hand gesturing towards Ralph.

'Wait what? Hahaha I'm surely dead now.'

"Ma'am why-"

"Rumi..." Sasha interrupted him again and started gesturing towards the bike with her eyes.

'I swear she has a death wish, Sasha, I don't wanna die so young!'

"Umm... I dunno, maybe we could do this again. We even have a bike now." Even before I finished I saw Ralph clenching his fists, so I could clearly see the white of his knuckles.

The other three behind him chuckled.

"Alex, you know I can't ride a bike right?" Sasha looked at the stroller lady.

"Yes, which again is quite shocking, if I must say." Woah they seem kinda close, unlike Ralph.

"Rumi will be my tutor from today onwards.!" She announced beamingly.

When did I ever agree to this? And I bet she won't even pay me!

"Hector, and Robin" She turned towards the twin brother and sister duo, "You're gonna explain the situation to my father and ask his permission to let me go out with Rumi."

"Go out?" I asked.

"Ahh yes, you'll have to come pick me up from my house every morning." She winked.

'Kill me now!'

"I'm in your care now Rumi!" I swear I could see the devil in her eyes.

It's funny how things work out for the better when you just do one good deed, or a selfless act. I don't know what she's thinking but I should really avoid Ralph from now on. I could see death in his eyes.
