Rescue

Feng Mingli stood at the snack table talking with some of the other guests when suddenly he heard someone scream his name. He turned towards the sound and saw two figures falling in the pool.

At first he planned to ignore it but he stopped when he noticed one of the figures looked a lot like Meng Suyin. He quickly made his way to the pool to take a closer look when he saw a guy break the surface of the water.

The guy muttered that she should have been back up by now under his breath. Feng Mingli grew worried and he looked into the water and saw a flash of white.

Feng Mingli quickly jumped in when he saw the familiar sundress. He swam down to Meng Suyin and saw she was unconscious. The shawl had fallen off her shoulders at some point and he could see her shoulder needed to be treated again. The bandage had come undone and showed bits and pieces of her wound. He could even see where the stitches had been torn open.

He didn't have time to ponder on this though so he quickly wrapped his arm around Meng Suyin's waist and swam upwards. They broke the surface and Meng Suyin was layed on the ground beside the pool still unconscious.

Feng Mingli quickly checked up on her and noticed that Meng Suyin wasn't breathing. He kneeled down beside her and gave her some chest compressions. When he saw that she wasn't reacting he quickly leaned down and tilted her head back and gave her some air. Then he returned to doing chest compressions.

A few seconds passed and Meng Suyin jerked up and coughed up a bunch of water. After coughing her lungs out, Meng Suyin turned to Feng Mingli and started crying.

She felt very afraid since she was this close to dying again. She had already almost died twice in this place and right now she just felt like crying. So that's just what she did as she started crawling closer to Feng Mingli. But she underestimated her exhaustion and fell forward.

She closed her eyes prepared to hit the ground, but instead a pair of arms reached out and held her up. Meng Suyin opened her eyes and looked up to see she was in Feng Mingli's arms.

Feng Mingli felt helpless when he saw her watery eyes but he reached out and patted her head and said," It's alright. You're okay now. Nobody else is going to hurt you here."

Feng Mingli watched as Meng Suyin showed a small smile as her eyes closed and she eventually fell asleep. Unbeknownst to them there was another ding.

Feng Mingli picked her up and carried her inside. He didn't know where her room was so he walked towards his room and set her down on his bed. He tucked her in and quickly walked back outside after calling a number on his phone.

He remembered that he left her with his fiancée, Meng Yun, so he looked around and when he spotted her, he quickly walked up to her. When Meng Yun saw his approach she smiled but that smile disappeared when she saw his dark expression.

Feng Mingli looked at her and said," What happened while I was gone. Why was Meng Suyin in the pool?"

Meng Yun shook her head and said," I don't know. I did comment on her outfit, but Fan Ling was the one who told the guy that Meng Suyin wanted to go in the pool."

Feng Mingli looked at Fan Ling and saw her looking at Meng Yun shocked. He looked between the two and felt like something wasn't right.

He looked back to Fan Ling and said," So why'd you tell the guy to throw her in the pool?"

Fan Ling shivered when she saw his gaze focused on her and said," Well Meng Yun said she liked swimming so I thought it'd be a harmless little prank."

Feng Mingli looked back at Meng Yun and said," You said she likes to swim? We both know she can't swim. Your brother even brought it up during the engagement dinner before. Something about her almost drowning as a child."

Meng Yun tensed and avoided Feng Mingli's gaze as she said," I didn't know. I thought she got over that. I just thought it'd be fun to swim together."

Meng Jianyu appeared when Meng Yun looked like she was about to cry. He walked up to them and asked them what was going on.

Feng Mingli looked at him and told him what happened.

Meng Jianyu just looked at him and tilted his head as he said," She's fine though right? Then can't we just put this behind us."

Feng grit his teeth and clenched his fists before saying," Fine... She almost died. She stopped breathing. I had to give her CPR. She also needs to see a doctor to fix up her shoulder."

Meng Jianyu looked confused as he said," What's wrong with her shoulder?"

Feng Mingli sighed in frustration as he said," I've already told you she needed to stay home for a few months to recover right?"

Meng Jianyu showed a guilty looked and said," I forgot. Still, what happened to her shoulder?"

Feng Mingli said," Well you never gave me the chance to explain before when you suddenly ran off. But, she took a spear to the shoulder."

Meng Jianyu and Meng Yun both exclaimed," A SPEAR!!!"

Feng Mingli nodded and said," Yeah she blocked a spear aimed at me and got hurt in the process. So she was thrown in the pool when she already couldn't swim but she also had a hurt shoulder. So when she was struggling underwater she tore the stitches on her shoulder and now she needs to see a doctor to get it fixed."

Meng Jianyu nodded and said," Where is she now? Has she already seen the doctor?"

Feng Mingli said," She's in my room, and not yet. I've called one of my family doctors, but he hasn't arrived yet."

Meng Yun looked up and said," Wait, why's she in your room?"

Feng Mingli stared at her for a couple of seconds before saying," I didn't know where her room was so I just took her to mine."

Meng Yun interjected and said," You could have just asked one of the servants and they would have told you. Meng Suyin's a girl. She shouldn't be placed in your room."

Feng Mingli glared at her as he said," It was an emergency. I didn't have time to go looking for one of the servants. That would have been a waste of time. I needed to hurry up and lay her down so I could call the doctor. Or do you have a problem with that."

Meng Yun quickly shook her head and said no. Meng Jianyu watched the exchange between the two and once he saw they were finished he looked at Feng Mingli and asked him if they could go check on her while they wait for the doctor.

Feng Mingli agreed and the four of them walked back to Feng Mingli's room.

On the way Feng Mingli couldn't help but think that Meng Suyin might not have lived a happy life in this house. Her parents treated her like a nuisance. So did Meng Jianyu but he looked like he at least cared for her a little, considering how worried he was when he heard she had been hurt by a spear.

Meng Yun, Feng Mingli didn't know about her. She looked worried like Meng Jianyu when she heard about her wound, but something still seemed a little weird. For one thing, it was suspicious that she said she forgot that Meng Suyin couldn't swim. Especially when Fan Ling said that Meng Yun was the one who told her that Meng Suyin liked to swim.

Feng Mingli was confused but decided that he would pay more attention to Meng Suyin and her family in the future.

Since Meng Suyin was still unconscious, she didn't hear the familiar ding.
