The Desired Effect (A Multiverse Fanfic)

This is a story about a boy picked up by a god as his champion. Traveling through the multiverse the god will seek to ascend once more and reclaim his rightful place, while the boy will rise to prominence as his herald. There will be blood and many fights along the way, but there will also be friendships and romance. Truthfully I'm a bit tired of the current fanfics on Webnovel, so I thought I'd take a try at them myself. The MC will be not op at the beginning and he will have to work hard for things. I will also try to flesh out the relationship and the dynamics between the characters but I'm only a beginner so have mercy on me.

<3rd POV>

'Shit, shit, shit, shit, way to go Fey. I mean really, your debut as a demon slayer is going spectacular isn't it. I've only been outside for seven days and I've only been robbed once, and followed a pervert into his house.'

Starved as well as lacking in sleep and hygiene, Fey had done little to confirm whether the stranger was Urodaki or not. Admittedly, Fey did not think there were many people in Japan wearing red masks who were out looking for someone.

Even if there were a couple of said weirdos, how many of them would be south of the inn from where Fey had departed from.

Fey grabbed a handful of water and splashed it on his face. Although it wouldn't help him get rid of his fatigue, the cold water would help him wake up a little.

'I have to think of some way out. My options right now are to either intimidate him by drawing my sword or run away while he's not looking.'

Although both seemed like reasonable plans, Fey quickly crossed them off from his mind. Even if Fey were to intimidate him, the pervert could easily just follow him from a distance, and with how exhausted Fey is, it will be him who collapses first.

There are also no houses nearby and Fey hadn't seen anyone else walking nearby, so he couldn't depend on calling out for help, or rather he could but that plan relies too heavily on luck. Fey was not feeling particularly lucky right now.

The second plan has the same flaw as the first one with the only advantage being that the pervert wouldn't know in which direction he took off. However, Fey was not familiar with the area and he had only been spared himself of getting lost by taking the dirt roads.

'This means I'll have to face him head-on. If I can just cut his leg, then I can make a run for it without having to worry about him chasing after me.'

The only problem with this plan is that Fey didn't know if the pervert is a hidden master. Fey had considered the possibility of him being a demon, as they met each other at night, but he also deemed it unlikely as he didn't think there was a demon that would try to clean his victim before eating them.

In his mind, the stranger could only be one thing.

A pervert.

One who goes about looking for young boys and girls, before dragging them back to his house to commit sins unbefitting of this novel. Unfortunately for Fey, he didn't take into account how disgusting he smelled and just how unappetizing he looked in his current state.

While Fey did have the mind to finish this old bastard once and for all, He wasn't sure whether he had the resolve to follow through with it. Ending someone's life is not as simple as one might think, especially for the first time.

Once you cut them down, they will have left a permanent mark on you. Physically they will die, but that person will live out in your mind like a ghost ready to burden you with the weight of his life.

His past, present, and his future are gone, and the weight of that is suffocating and oftentimes might scar a person for life. It might be different for demons, as they have long given up their humanity, but even for them Fey still feels uncomfortable with the thought of killing something that looks human.

At that time it will be a fight for survival, so Fey is hoping that during his training, he will hone his mind to get rid of distracting thoughts.

For now, Fey plans to cut his leg, preferably cutting off his thing along the way, and run as far as he can before looking for someplace to rest. Then he will go to the next town and warn everyone about the danger, what happens after that is none of his business.

Having planned out his next move, Fey grabbed the pail and the small wooden bowl and showering himself with it. Not only will this help him wake up, but it should lower the pervert's guard against him.

After a couple of minutes had passed, he dried himself with the towel, put his clothes back on, and made sure to keep his hand over his katana as he should be using it soon.

"Urokodaki sensei I am coming out now."

As he came out of the bathroom, Fey could see the fake Urokodaki crouched in the corner inspecting something. His back was turned away from Fey and it seemed as though he couldn't hear him.

'Now's my chance'

Fey crouched slowly as he approached him, carefully making sure that each step was as quiet as the next. His anxiously beating heart was the only thing Fey could not control, but aside from that, he kept a steady and quiet pace.

Once he was close enough, Fey could see that the fake Urokodaki was holding his mask. Red horns protruded from the side of the mask whose lips were twisted downwards, as though it were in agony.

Fey slowly tugged his katana out of its sheath, unfortunately, in doing so he alerted Urokodaki

*Swiiish*

The sound of the katana scrapping against the sheath was not something Fey could prevent.

"Huh?"

The fake Urokodaki turned around, and for the first time, Fey could see his face.

His exposed pink flesh wiggled and pulsated as though it were following the rhythm of his heart. His nose was missing, and instead, there were just two hollow concaves making him look somewhat similar to a bat. His eyebrows were also gone.

His burnt and scarred flesh made Fey nauseous and he gripped his katana tighter. He didn't look so 'human' anymore and this made what Fey was about to do easier.

Now that he had turned around, there was no longer any point in being stealthy, and so Fey swiftly pulled out his katana from the sheath in one full motion.

Once it was out, Fey placed his other hand on the handle and swung his hands downwards as fast as he could. The katana made contact with the fake Urokodaki's legs and fiercely tore through his skin and muscles.

Blood splashed onto the air and floors, and had anyone happened to pass by they would've heard a loud pained cry coming from within the house.

"AAAHHHH, YOU BASTARD! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!"

'Now's the time to run.'

After having slashed the fake Urokodaki's leg, Fey turned around and bolted out of the house. Even though he was just placed in a very dangerous situation, Fey's heart burst with excitement. The rush of what he had donned and the danger of it was making his mind wake up more than the cold water ever did.

'Ahahahaha, that was crazy!'

Before Fey could finish celebrating, he felt a blunt and hard object colliding with the back of his shoulder. The force was powerful enough to throw him off balance and he rolled forwards awkwardly, before turning around to look at what had struck him.

'A rock?'

"COME BACK HERE! I AM NOT DONE WITH YOU BRAT!"

From behind him, Fey could see that the fake Urokodaki was standing just fine and in his hands were a couple of rocks that he had grabbed from the ground.

"How? I clearly slashed your leg just now, how are you standing?"

"Oh, you mean this?"

The fake Urokodaki pulled up his pant leg slightly, and Fey could see his wound closing up. The bloodstained and his ripped pants being the only proof of what had happened before.

It was also at this point that Fey realized this was no ordinary pervert he was facing.

"You're a demon!"

Sorry for the late chapter. I stayed up really late last night. I'll still try to finish writing another one, but it probably won't be out until early morning of the next day (eastern time).

Either way, I hope you enjoyed your day.
