Chapter Eight So Many

My nigh omnipresent senses within my territory watched over the villagers. It's been eight days since the completion of the wall and all the villagers were still hard at work. Many weapons were made between then and now. While the construction of houses were almost completed. Well, not really. Our woodstock was out and I won't send them out again.

I spotted thousands of monsters on the horizon, running in a wave from the forest, right towards our village. Today will be the day we test the walls.

The village was in an uproar. The women gathered the children and brought them to the lodge. While the men gathered the spears and bows. Few towers had been made along the wall, to allow some villagers to shoot and or stab the monsters next to the walls.

Every kill they would get would be shared equally between them, kind of. While I take four fifths of the energy, the killer gets a tenth of the energy, while the other tenth is spread equally between the rest of the villagers. This way even those who don't get a kill still slightly grow.

Like last time the wave of monsters wasn't made out of strong monsters. Instead it was made out of wolves, goblins, kobolds and such. The kobolds were few, while the goblins were many.

By the time everything was prepared and all the villagers that would fight, amounting to thirty had taken their place, the monsters had become visible. Thousands of monsters running at a speed of fifteen kilometers per hour. Nothing much, but still fast for a wave this size.

Time passed and soon there was only a kilometer between the wall and the monsters.

I stood in a small tower connected to the wall. Next to me were three of my childhood friends. In our hands were sharpened spears. None of my friends had taken a life before and slight shaking could be noted from them. But despite their fear their legs were strong and their facial expressions didn't falter.

"The monsters won't stop to kill us, but they won't run around. So all monsters blocked by the wall will become our enemies. That is why all our forces are located at the front. In about four minutes they will arrive, when they do we might fight for hours." I told my friends in the tower. A glint of resolve passed through their barely opened eyes.

Four minutes turned into an eternity, as the dispense was killing us. But finally the hour of our reckoning arrived.

At the front of the horde were hundreds of wolves. They were the first to meet the wall and they scattered. Two big waves of hundreds of wolves ran around the wall. While about fifty didn't follow either of the groups and kept running towards us.

Me and my friends were the first to meet the monsters head on. One of the wolves took a big leap and jumped over the wall, while getting scratched by the spearheads of the wall. With a shallow cut it landed on our outlook and attacked my friend. In a moment of instinct my friends pointed his spear at the wolf, when it jumped at him. Due to the spear's sharpness it penetrated the wolf, but it didn't die. An angry dying wolf now laid on top of my friend, its strong jaws about to claim his life.

I quickly stabbed my spear into the monster's back, while my two other friends did the same. It howled out in pain and managed to scratch my friend's face before laying flat on its stomach. We quickly worked together to remove the wolf from him. While we were distracted two more wolves had jumped up on our tower. WHile three others had passed and were running towards our ten ground forces, guarding the lodge. The final line of defense.

"We have to kill these two before they join their friends!" I ordered my friends and hurled my spear at the closest wolf. It managed to dodge my attack at the last second and bite my spear. It jerked it towards itself and our scuffle quickly became a fight over the spear.

My three friends were fighting the other wolf together, but I didn't trust them to do it alone. I was quickly filled with worry and when the wolf jerked with all its might at the spear again I let go. The wolf became unbalanced for a second and I used that time to smash my fist into its head.

The wolf hit the wall from the impact and I picked up my spear and used its moment of immovability to stab down my spear into its brain. One down, one to go. I turned around in haste, to see two of my friends on the ground with bite marks. While the last one was fighting for his and their lives.

I threw my spear into its sides and ran towards them. Being caught off guard from the attack my friend managed to stab the wolf in the face. The spear went all the way through its skull, going out on the other side of its head. Its gray fur turned red, as it fell on the wooden floor.

The towers around me weren't as lucky as us and one had actually been wiped out. Five of us had died so far. The men on the ground were still going strong. Every now and then I would feel a small bit of energy strengthening my body. Similar to when I kill a monster. So my best guess is that we get a bit of the power from each kill. With that, we might be able to survive this ordeal.

The last wolf was killed shortly after. Now was the next wave, the goblins and kobolds. Over a thousand of those pesky bastards came running towards us. Like before they split into groups and only some actually attacked the wall. Over a hundred goblins and kobolds started working together to attack us.

They used their own bodies as a staircase to get up. The hunter could be seen shooting his arrows at the goblins, but he failed to notice that it didn't change anything. Those goblins would have died of suffocation anyways.

About five goblins came into our small tower, targeting the closest living thing. They had no weapons and were slightly smaller than us. While about twenty goblins and ten kobolds passed through all the tower's defenses and rushed towards the final defense.

My spear found the closest goblin head and obliterated it. A small wisp of energy entered me and filled me with renewed vigor. My friend did the same and managed to kill a goblin. Making the standoff a three versus two. My other friends were still laying on the ground. If one looked closely they would see their injuries slowly heal. Soon they would join the fight again and with new strength.

My friend and I attacked the middle goblin. My spear pierced its ribcage, while my friend's spear went through its heart. We quickly distant ourselves again and felt a small wisp of energy entering us. Guess we shared the energy for the kill. I hurled my spear at the closest goblin and hit it in the head. While my friend used the spear as a club, beating the poor goblin to death.

"Ykrus, go down and help the others, I'll hold this tower till you're back. We can't lose them now!" I ordered my friend. He nodded and without a word jumped down from the tower with his spear in hand. He sneakily ran towards the final line of defense. Which had seen better days. One had died, while two were severely injured. About seven kobolds and ten goblins were left alive. Strike that, six kobolds now.

Ykrus spear pierced the backhead of one of the kobolds, but he didn't stop there, using the moment of surprise he smashed a goblin's head like a watermelon, while piercing the second nearest goblin. With his surprise attack he managed to kill three monsters, now they just needed to kill fourteen monsters.

As I watched my friend fight, four kobolds came up on my side to greet me. I turned around ready to face the tides.

Next chapter comes on wednessday. More chapter will be made, but writing two books is hard :) Hope you liked the chapter.
