The Days When I’m With You

In the ocean of strangers, among billions of passerby, I who was reborn as Li Fei chanced upon you. And just like birds of the same feather, we flocked together. Seeking love and filling the empty hole, thinking the possibility of “us” that remained unknown. I couldn’t promise you my heart or forever. But know that if we did end up missing each other, please remember there was a time when we were in each other’s arms. There was a time when I had been your stranger and you had been mine. —————— “Woman, you should know that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” I sneered, “And do you wanna know the way to a woman’s heart?” “What?” I whispered closely to his ear, “It’s when the man do all the work for us.” Him, “...” With my index finger, I lifted his chin. “So, who’s gonna cook later?” “I shall gladly serve you, My Lady.” ________________ Follow my ig: @author_kiiara [Cover: credits to the artist | Source: Pinterest]

Taken Away

I thought I had to walk to get home. I was worried because I didn't know where home was.

Perhaps I could figure it out if I searched through my memories where Li Fei stayed. But would it be a 'home' that I wanted to go back to?

In addition, I had never been to the capital. Where I lived, where Airi lived, was in a small town at the edge of Country S. So, this bustling crowd in front of me was a bit nerve wracking.

I tried to take it all in, these foreign yet familiar view. The skyscrapers, the traffic jam, and the fashionable people. Not all of them put in that much effort but most of them were. I guessed image was the priority here.

Based on Li Fei's memory, I could attest to that. Apparently, I was now the shameless Mrs. Lu. Oh, I gave myself too much credit. It was supposed to be the shameless Ms. Huang. Because of this ruined image, my parents would surely threaten to disown me.

I scoffed at the thought of it. At least she still held on to her name. What about me?

I wasn't even given the option to defend my own identity. The existence of Airi Chang was no more. I had to live as someone else.

The thought of living as an abandoned young miss of the Huang family or the wife of the so-called Lu Tianfeng sounded absolutely mortifying if I thought about it.

My image was the lowest of the lowest especially when this woman Li Fei was connected to that big boss Lu. All the spotlight was on her but negatively.

Who would want to live as her if they were to be asked?

Perhaps only a gold digger or a too ambitious woman would agree.

But that wasn't the issue for me. I didn't care who Li Fei was, what was her problem, her friends, her responsibility or anything.

I became her but that didn't mean I would live as her.

If I wasn't even given a choice to keep my identity, at least I wanted the freedom to choose how I lived. Because this option, even God could not intervene.

It was all up to me.

So when the chauffeur who stood by the black Bentley greeted me, "Mrs. Lu, welcome back. I've come to pick you up." I took a turn and walked away from the car.

My memory was a bit hazy but if I remembered correctly, hadn't there been a guy who came and asked me to sign a divorce paper?

If so, there should be no reason for me to get into that car and took me back to the prison called "Lu Estate".

Li Fei might be a lost cause in love and did not have any regard for her dignity but I would not beg for love that wasn't mine to begin with.

I had only one love. A love that had died along with my heart.

I walked away gracefully like how I pictured Li Fei, a young mistress, would do it if she ever did. But because she didn't and she was helplessly in love, I would do it for her today.

It was the least I could do for her before I forged a new path for my own selfishness.

"Mrs. Lu where are you going?"

I could hear the panic in the chauffeur voice. But that was not my problem. I could care less even if he drop dead right at this second. Life had f***** me over, so why should I care for anything other than myself?

"Mrs. Lu wait!" Another male voice echoed from behind me and with that came the sound of hurried footsteps.

I knitted my eyebrows. 'Stop calling me Mrs. Lu!' I screamed in my head.

It was not some prestigious title or a lucky family name like the people had thought. For me it sounded like a curse. With the mention of that name, the memories of being unloved and left alone in that enormous cage, used like some tool by my own family, resurfaced in my head.

I hardened my heart and denied any emotions that tried to slip in, even if they were Li Fei's. I refused to feel again.

If it could only bring pain and grief, I rather chose not to feel anything.

When I heard the footsteps closing in, without a second thought, I dashed forward as fast as I could, making my way to the other side of the road even though there wasn't any crossroad. The roaming cars could help me slowed down those men.

One thing I had to be proud of now when I was Airi, I was a hyper kid, bouncing here and there. Hence, I made my way across the road with ease. Although Li Fei wasn't as fast as I used to be. It was still good enough to level with the bodyguards who were currently chasing me.

Many cars braked as fast as they could while they kept honking at us. The blaring noise was getting annoying by the second. Fortunately, I quickly arrived at the other side of the road.

To lose them, I dashed towards the small alley in between two shops and entered from the back door of a woman clothing store. It was a chic clothing store selling teen to young adult outfits.

The workers were shocked to see me, a stranger walked out from the storeroom and quickly deduced I was a thief. So they yelled in panic.

I clicked my tongue. I needed to move on because their shrieking voice had probably attracted those bodyguards.

However, the moment I exited the shop, I immediately came face to face with two men dressed in all-black outfits. I froze and so did they.

"Mrs. Lu!"

My face went pale as I took a step back. That was when I bumped into something hard. I turned around and it was all black in my eyes. I lifted my chin to meet another bodyguard standing behind me.

His cold eyes fixed on me as he said, "Mrs. Lu, please come with us. Don't cause any more problem."

My eyebrows scrunched up subconsciously. Now it dawned on me, Li Fei had completely lost all the respect from everyone around her. Even a mere subordinate who only knew how to follow orders had zero respect towards her.

He looked at me not only coldly, but with a hint of disdain. A self-deprecating smile bloomed on my face.

'Yeah, I guess I deserve this.'

With that, I had no choice but to follow them towards the car. One of the bodyguard opened the door for me.

I went speechless right away. I turned my head to look at him. He stayed silent while his eyes stared at me coldly.

Again, I smiled. A terribly bitter smile.

I guessed the level of respect I deserved now was only this small gesture of formality.

I got on the car and he closed the door before getting in on the shotgun seat. The driver started the car and my heart went completely numb.
