Surprise Surprise

On every special happening, may it be a birthday, graduation, or every small gathering, Mayen always decorates and plans the special day ahead of time. She would prepare the food, drinks, desserts, and even wine.

Since today is Chared's birthday, every side of their house is filled with sparkling and fabulous presence. Clean there, cook here, organize this, she always gave her best for the celebration to be an enjoyable moment for the family.

As 6:30 p.m. struck, everything was set. The theme is black and gold, like a trendy style birthday. It suits their home well, with their house being spacious with two bedrooms and a master bedroom, with a large bathroom and an expansive kitchen. Every part of the house looks fashionable.

Mayen likes to style the house and keep it clean all the time, she does the chores every time she sees a speck of dust. Having a condominium unit with a modern minimalist aesthetic encourages her more to keep the house looking great.

Their condominium is also designed with a pocket garden to provide a breather and comfort to the residents. It's a natural outdoor feel within the busy city.

While standing near the table, Mayen asked Chared who was sitting on the sofa in their living area. "Try calling your brother, ask him where are they right now? They should be here."

Chared who's glued to watching the television while sitting on a modern-style recliner sofa, gets his phone that is on his right side, "I'll just text him, Mom!" After sending a text, he continued watching a replay of a soccer game.

"Someone special? Do you even know what that means?" Zee's head tilted, he looked puzzled.

"I know what that means, What do you think I am, stupid?" Jen replied with her eyes widened. "Let's go now, your mom must be waiting."

Zee smirked and started the engine of the car. He turned to the right of the corner instead of the left corner.

"Why turn here? It's the other way around," Jen quickly said as she pointed out the other side of the road.

"Aren't we going to swing by your house first?"

"Why?"

"For you to change your clothes."

"I don't need to change. Why would I have to change?" Jen sneered.

"Okay..." Zee muttered.

Before 7 p.m. struck, while Mayen was putting lipstick on, she heard a knock on their door. "They're here now, let's welcome them." She grabbed Chared and excitedly walked to the door to let them inside.

"Happy birthday!" Jen cheerfully greeted as Mayen opened the door. "Hello, Auntie and Chared."

"May I ask who you are? Are you Zee's girlfriend?" Mayen's brows arched, waiting for a response.

Zee and Chared both laughed softly and glanced at each other.

"I told you, you look entirely a different person today," Zee said while looking at Jen.

Jen giggled, "It's me, Auntie, I'm Jen."

"Oh!! You're Jen... You look very pretty today, you are different today," Mayen exaggeratedly said as she observed her with amazement from head to toe.

"I think you're a very great match to any of my sons. Who do you like between them?" Mayen said as they all got inside the house.

"Mom, please," both Zee and Chared said. Jen and Mayen smirked.

"I'm just kidding! Let's eat now, I prepared a lot," Mayen started to flip the plates at the table. Jen helped her and got the juice drinks in the fridge.

"Here is your gift. Happy birthday," Zee handed the gift box to Chared. "I did not know what you would like so I just bought this."

"Mm," Chared with little expression received the gift and put it on the table in the living area.

"Make a wish first," Mayen carefully opened the box of cake, a giant chocolate cake, that was at the center of the table, and then she lit up the candle. Even with just the four of them, the celebration was fun and their mother Mayen enjoyed a lot catching up with her two sons while they were all eating.

"Look, these are all your favorites, eat a lot," Mayen poured some food onto her sons' plates. While catching up, Mayen did not forget to ask about the dating news of Zee.

"I almost forgot, where is your girlfriend? I thought you already have one. You should've invited her here," she said as she swallowed the food.

"How do you know about that, mom?" Zee replied, his eyes startled.

"Of course, I'm always updated. I watch news and celebrity news nowadays. So where is she?" Mayen asked looking amused. "I bet she's pretty," she whispered.

"Hmm. Yeah, she's pretty just like you, mom. But you're prettier, of course!" Zee smiled widely and gave her mom a thumbs-up.

Mayen's face blushed. "Invite her here sometimes, I want to meet her." She paused for a bit, then she teased her son. "Then, I can have Jen for my Chared instead?"

Jen chuckled, "I already have a boyfriend, Auntie."
