Chapter 5

"I choose to be a hunter." He answered.

Upon hearing his answer, the captain seemed relieved as his features softened. "Good. Go to Marcus. He will show you around."

"Thank you." Max said as he turned around and walked towards the door but he couldn't make it there as Leopold stopped him.

"Wait."

"Yes?"

"Tell him to bring you to Adrian after that. He will teach you about magic."

"Okay." Then he continued walking when he was stopped once more. "Wait."

Max turned around in frustration this time. "Yes captain?"

"Get your salary from Orianna from accounting."

"Got it." Then Max turned a few steps more and stopped before turning around and looking at the captain. "Uh anything else I should know?"

"No." Leopold answered as if there was no problem.

"Alright." Max continued walking with fast steps until he finally got out of the office and closed the door.

Once he was out he breathed a sigh of relief and went to find Marcus.

He didn't need to search around for too long as the group was seated at a table and were drinking to their heart's content.

The group noticed him walking towards them as Marcus asked, "'Sup kid. You didn't leave yet?"

"No, not yet. In fact, I'll be here for a while. The captain told me to look for you for my settlement. I'm also a hunter now." Max shook his head then explained the situation.

Marcus slapped his knees in humor as he said, "hah I knew it was gonna be like that. Don't kill me in my sleep, okay weird kid?"

It was obvious the group didn't trust him yet as his story was too suspicious but since the captain didn't say anything, it wasn't their place to question him.

"No promises." Max replied.

"Follow me, I'll show where you'll be sleeping." Marcus got up after downing his glass and went upstairs with Marcus.

There were a few rooms some with closed and some with open doors.

"You will stay in one of the rooms until you have enough money to get the fuck outta here. Trust me, you won't want to continue living here." Marcus explained as he led Max to one of the empty rooms.

It was a simple room with a bed a desk a wardrobe and a bookshelf.

"Bathrooms are downstairs. And that's it got to go." Marcus turned around to go back to the table but was stopped by Max. "Wait, captain told me to find Adrian. He is supposed to be my magic teacher."

"Did he now? Well follow me then." They climbed the stairs once more as weird laboratory looking room appeared before his eyes.

There were tons of books shelved on the bookshelves with papers strewn around every where.

There was an alchemy equipment on the table and beside it was an old man with a white long beard and hunched back doing something with it.

He was pouring something out of a potion into the vial.

Upon seeing this, Marcus signaled him to be quiet until the old man finished what he was doing and turned to them. "What do you want Marcus?" The old man was dressed in a fantasy magician robe and had old age spots all around his showing body parts.

"This is the new kid. The captain wants you to be his teacher." Marcus explained while pushing Max towards the old man.

The old man looked at Max for a while as he said, "You want to learn magic kid?"

"Yes. Please. Yes." Max nodded his head without stopping.

"Alright, then come tomorrow afternoon."

"Got it. Thank you very much." Max expressed his gratitude but the old man was back to his work as he only waved his hand.

"Alright, I'm leaving now." Marcus said as he was leaving but he was stopped once again. "Wait."

"Gah! What the fuck do you want now? Just one captain is enough where the hell a devil like you come from." He was frustrated from seeing a young Leopold before his eyes.

Max didn't show that he was enjoying the situation as he said, "I need to get my salary from Orianna."

"…follow me." This time they went down the stairs and got back to the bar area, passed the captain's office and entered another one.

"Orianna, this kid is here to get his salary."

A spectacled woman was sitting behind a desk while writing something on a paper. She had green eyes and a blonde hair.

She was dressed in a uniform with the badge of a bow and arrow fitted on her collar.

"Ah Max isn't it? Captain gave the notification just now. Here you go." Then she picked a pouch from under the desk and passed it to Max.

"Thank you." Max who took it gratefully expressed his gratitude then turned to Marcus who was looking at him in annoyance.

"Anything else?" He asked but this time Max shook his head in denial.

"Nope. All good."

"Great. Now, if you'll excuse me." He said with annoyance and turned to go back to his table where his fellows were waiting.

"Took you a while Marcus." A man with brown hair said while sipping on his drink.

"Yeah, the kid is like the devil. Acts like the captain for the heck of it." Marcus sighed as he put his glass on the table.

"He actually joined the hunters didn't he? I don't know what the captain is thinking. Now matter how you look at it, he is suspicious." The woman who wore the leather armor during the day said.

She had blonde hair and surprisingly her ears were pointed, showcasing her different ancestry.

"I don't know either but he is not the captain for nothing." Marcus shrugged. "Anyways cheers!" Then he brought his glass up as the others followed.

Meanwhile Max was in his room, laying on his bed while looking at the ceiling in deep thought.

'I wonder if I'll wake up in reality after I go to sleep? Sigh who am I kidding, the matter has already been concluded there is no way back right now but it doesn't have to be so for the future. Let's look on the bright side, I can do magic.' He thought as he conjured a black bow in his hand.

The bow was sleek in design showing that it was made with high technology.

No matter how much he tried to understand about the bow, he resulted in failure. He didn't know its history now its make but it was quite flexible and durable.

He was sure that he could even use it as a blunt weapon if he needed to but of course instead of using the bow, he could project a mace or something instead.

It was unknown when but he slowly drifted into sleep while in deep thought.
