4 Chapter 4

It was a turtle-like creature. But it was huge. It reached his waist.

"What type of dog is this?" Max asked.

"We call it Tortus, this one is a youngling. You don't wanna mess with a mature Tortus." Captain answered.

"Anything I should be aware of?" The Max asked once again.

"As you can see don't attack the shell spare yourself from the effort and be careful of their bite as it can tear through heavy plating like paper. Other than that, they are slow at turning but beware not to be in front of it as it can stretch its neck with a high speed." And the captain answered patiently.

Instead of being annoyed with Max's questions, you could see appreciation in them because of him gathering information about his enemy. That was worthy of praise.

"Thank you captain." Max thanked him and approached the Tortus with cautious steps. His heart was about to burst from his chest but he had to do it because this was the best possible time to experience it. There were experienced people all around him ready to help him in case anything went wrong.

"You're not gonna ask for a weapon?" The captain asked from the rear.

"No, thanks I want to try this." Max said as he projected Marcus's sword in his hand and gripped the handle.

'Weird, it feels like I've been swinging this sword for years.' The sword felt so familiar that he confused his identity with Marcus's for a second.

'Okay, gotta focus. Don't attack the shell, don't stand in front of it and try to run circles around it.' He exhaled as he prepared for the incoming combat.

He gripped the sword tightly and rushed forward. The Tortus noticed him and intended to bite the human that dared to approach it but it missed as Max swung his sword with quick strikes towards the neck while leaving a few gashed that spew out blood.

His stomach churned from the sensation from his fingers but he didn't let up. He continued running circles around the creature while leaving gashes. He wasn't strong enough to kill the creature in one go so had to resort to accumulating wounds.

And a few moment later, the Tortus succumbed to its wounds as it stood still.

Max didn't approach it yet as he was being cautious. He had experience from the rabbit after all. These monsters were cunning.

So, he waited and waited until slowly approaching the Tortus while stabbing his sword through its head with all his strength.

*A turtle in pain noises*

The Tortus gave a final cry before dropping dead.

"Well done Max." The captain said while coming closer.

But the person in question didn't answer for a while as he was busy looking at the notification in front of him.

'I got assigned a class? And it is archer on top of it all? That's perfect! Now I don't have to get in the action, I can just snipe them afar. And I got Class Skills on top of Personal Skills too. I understand Magic Resistance but what is Clairvoyance? Can I see into the future.' Then he lifted his head up and looked around. 'Now that I think of it, I can see much better and much further than before. Is this Clairvoyance?'

Then he felt something being recorded in UBW. It was a huge black bow, easily two times his size that was made with a material much ahead of the current technology of both his worlds and a black arrow made with the same material.

'Awesome!' He exclaimed in his mind. Meanwhile Leopold came closer to him to check whether something was wrong. "Max?" He asked once more and the person in question managed to answer this time.

"Huh? Yes captain Leopold?"

"You alright?"

"Ah yes I'm alright. It was the first time I killed something so I was a bit nervous."

"It happens to everyone at first so that's normal. In fact I'm glad, I didn't want to see the kid I found in the middle of nowhere to be a murderous beast who enjoyed killing." He added the last bit with sharp eyes.

'Ah, he was actually testing me.' He was frightened at first because if he did anything wrong he might have been killed by this man but now that Leopold admitted it, there should be no more problems.

So, he gathered his courage and asked the man once more, "uh captain, can you leave one out for me each time? I don't want to be left inexperienced if I happen to be lost in the woods once again."

Leopold was thoughtful at first then nodded. "That's fine but you have to be quicker, we can consider this a training for a newbie hunter, and now that we have cleaned most of the area, we shouldn't be left with too much work."

"Thank you." Max expressed his gratitude and followed the group once again.

He didn't try Projecting the bow nor the arrows because he was certain that his mana would allow him to project more than one bow and two arrows at most. He could try training with a bow next time. He was here for the experience at the moment and that's what he did.

Each time, there was a monster left out for him to hunt and he was getting better and better.

The sky was slowly darkening when they were done and Max felt the hunger in his stomach once again.

Thankfully, the hunter group came prepared as he was given a share of beef jerky.

"Be careful of using too much magic as magic depletion can easily lead to death. And also eating food can also hasten your regeneration."

Max noted it down in his mind as he had experience from mana depletion. That time he depleted it was quite lucky as they were just cheap copies but if he had any blade of a good make, he was sure he would be dead by now.

By the time the sun set, they reached Horizon.

He couldn't see much because it was dark and the only light source apart from the moon that hid behind the clouds were the lanterns that gave minimal light to their surroundings but he could make out some stuff.

There were some mystical creatures in the stables. One looked like a T-Rex with short front legs and huge back legs but it wasn't as big. They were around the captain Leopold's height which was quite tall for him but smaller than an actual T-Rex.

There were horses too but they didn't look normal either. Some had eight legs and some had horns growing out of their heads.

'Unicorn?' He knew about those fantasy creatures. 'But what about those?' And there were also black horses that also had horns sticking out of their heads. But what was different about them was the flames that erupted from their hooves and horns. And weird enough, the flames did nothing to their surroundings.

'How magical.' He was full of curiosity towards these amazing creatures but they had enough of his time as he turned his head towards the place they were going.

There were guards on a patrol on the streets, who gave the captain Leopold a nod while passing which the captain returned.

And soon enough, they reached their destination.

It looked like a simple hut from the outside but was actually the hunter's guild branch located in Horizon.

It was named Drunken Huntsman. It also doubled as a pub for all kind of people.

When we got in, the others dispersed as only Leopold and Max were left. "Follow me." The captain said.

Max followed him to his office which was decorated with the heads and pelts of the creatures he has hunted all his life as a hunter.

Leopold took of his swords from his back and left them against the wall and sat on the chair behind his desk. "Now, Max. I know you have your story, so do everyone else. You may or may not have lost your memories, I don't care about that since you don't look like you have any sort of evil will under your motives so I'll let you be. Now, I will give you two choices. One, join the hunter's guild and become a hunter like us. You will be trained on how to fight and how to defend yourself, you will be given a shelter and food and also you will be paid a weekly salary of 3 silver. And your second choice is; I will give you 5 copper for all the monsters you have killed and you will walk out of that door, whatever you do will be none of my business. What say you?" Leopold said with a stern attitude much different from how he had been before.

Even though he was intimidated, Max already had an answer.
