CHAPTER 3

Tessa fell flat on the floor, blood was oozing out from her head, her vision immediately went black. 

Tessa's heart was racing, numerous scenes of David kissing Olivia were rushing through her head. She could see David's hands on Olivia's thigh, and Olivia's hands were on David's chest, they were probably going to have sex if she didn't step in, who knew what he had been doing all this while. 

Tessa's heart started pounding heavily as the scene came running through her at once, she opened her eyes in shock. 

Her breath was vibrating, her first sight was the white ceiling. She remembered everything that happened, Olivia hit her with a bottle, and they left her on the floor. Tessa heart tightened as she thought about it.

She took a deep breath when she felt the sharp pain in her head, her sense focused on the ceiling again. 

She must be in the hospital, she could feel the bandages, they wrapped her long black hair together. 

Her blue eyes suddenly turned wet, she still couldn't believe David did this to her, after the love they confessed to each other before they got married. 

She thought they loved each other, wasn't marriage for those who love each other. Why would he propose marriage if he didn't love her? 

Tessa was lost in thought when the room door suddenly pushed open, David's mother, Mrs. Penelope stormed inside with an angry expression. 

"Tessa, wake up now, wake up you bastard!"

She came closer to Tessa, seeing Tessa was already awake, she brought out the divorcement paper and slammed it on the table close to Tessa's bed. 

"How dare you try to ruin our family, you ungrateful hag. My son took you from the dirt, from the waste bin. He brought you up to the woman that you have become and you dare to ruin his image"

Tessa was confused by Penelope's words, she believed David must've lied to her. 

"Mom—"

"Shut your mouth. Who is your mother, do you have any idea what we just went through because you slapped Olivia? Her family is one of the ten richest families in Cherry City, if David wasn't close to her, you would've been dead by now!"

She pointed at the document on the table. 

"Sign this document now, I don't want a hag like you in my family!"

Penelope glared at Tessa, thank goodness, David suggested the marriage contract, now Tessa would get nothing. No wedding was done, for some reason Tessa didn't wanted a wedding, she foolishly agreed to all of David's terms, they only got their marriage certificate and that was it. 

Only the families and some staff knew Tessa was married to David, divorcing Tessa wouldn't raise any questions in the public. 

Tessa closed her eyes, she forgot David's mom had been heartless to her since she got married to David, she used to be nice, but after a month, her behavior changed completely. 

She started saying she married David because of his money, to please her, Tessa started doing all the housework in the house and running errands for her, but that only made things worse. 

David proposed a cruel marriage contract to her, and now David was cheating on her, Tessa believed his mother was behind everything. 

Penelope frowned seeing Tessa wasn't saying anything. 

"Oh, now you finally realized how stupid you were, did you think you could come into our family and steal everything that belongs to us"

Penelope reached Tessa on the bed, she sounded in a deadly tone. 

"You would get nothing from the divorce, the contract still stands, and if you are thinking of waiting for it to expire, I would choke you to death before it does. You are just a commoner, nobody would even notice if you die here"

She brought out a pen from her mini bag and placed it on top of the document. 

"You will be discharged tomorrow, I am giving you now till tomorrow to sign the document or you will disappear out of thin air"

She smiled brightly before she turned towards the door. 

Tessa had already made up her mind to divorce David, and nothing was going to change it, but she wanted to know if Penelope changed David or if David never loved her. 

"Why did he marry me, why did you allow him in the first place"

Penelope stopped in her tracks, she thought Tessa would never ask, she had always planned to tell Tessa since the old man died, but Tessa never asked. 

Without looking back, Penelope said. 

"That stupid old man said he won't give David any of his inheritance if he doesn't get married, David's heart already belonged to Olivia, but Olivia wasn't ready and she wasn't in town, so he had to look for somebody that he could easily manipulate"

She turned to face Tessa with a big smile. 

"Do I have to explain further"

"No"

Tessa moved her attention to the white ceiling again. Penelope smiled walking away. 

Tessa's tears dropped when the door closed, she couldn't believe it, she thought it was love, she worked as a sale girl in a coffee store, David was a regular customer, one day his attitude suddenly changed, he took notice of her, asked her out for a date, on the third date, he proposed marriage to her. 

Tessa's eyes turned wet completely, she ran away from home, she left her family, her dying grandpa, everything, she left it behind to get married, only to be used as a fool. 

She stood up from her bed and stepped to the document on the table, Tessa's fist was vibrating as she stared at the title on the document. 

'Who do they think they are, Who do they think I am'

Tessa picked up the pen and signed the document. She threw the pen on the floor and squatted close to the table, the anger inside her was boiling, and her body was shaking vigorously. 

She couldn't believe the cruelty of this world, evil sure does reside in this world, and she had seen it. countless times. 

Tessa searched for her bag, she saw it on the floor, she fetched her phone out, and swiftly dialed a number.

The call went through immediately. Tessa sounded, she wanted to sound normal, but she couldn't suppress her emotions. She cried. 

"Dad, please... Please come get me.. please.... "

Tessa took a deep breath and sounded again. 

"I am ready to accept who I am"
