Chapter Four: Where Am I?

You're brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed, but just as you finish, you hear your name being called. You quickly finish up before heading downstairs and see Mom sitting on one of the couches.

.

Mom: Come sit down. I have a surprise for you.

Y/n: Okay.

.

You take a seat next to her and face her. Your curiosity is piqued about what the surprise is all about.

.

Mom: First thing honey, I need to say how incredibly brave you were yesterday. You saved that little girl's life and everyone in the rodeo. You're a hero Y/n.

Y/n: Aw well, I just wanted to help. And I honestly thought everyone would be scared of me when I did that. Like if someone called me a witch or something.

Mom: Even if someone does call you that, you'll always have us to think otherwise. Now, I wanna give you this.

.

With a smile on her face, she then hands you a small white box. When you open it, you see a stainless-steel necklace with a pendant of your favorite animal.

.

Mom: I hope you like it. It's stainless steel, so you can wear it every day.

Y/n: I love it! It's so cute.

.

You put on the necklace, and the pendant falls perfectly over your skin.

.

Y/n: Thanks so much Mom. You didn't have to.

Mom: Don't mention it, hon, I wanted to. And I was thinking maybe you can help me make some pies for next week's church service.

.

.

.

...Later that Night...

.

.

.

You ended up sleeping with the necklace Mom gave you since you were just very happy to have it on. But what you don't know is that making this decision was for the best.

Several black armored trucks surround the house. Men in tactical gear start rushing out of them as soon as they stop. Some surround the home while the rest take the front door.

As you and your sisters lay in bed asleep, the men already got your father out to talk to them. One of them tells your mom to get all of her kids out of the house, and that's exactly what she does.

She hurries to the bedroom and turns on the light, which wakes Autumn up but not you or Miley. Mom hurries over to you and Miley and wakes you up by pushing your shoulder.

.

Mom: Wake up, we need to leave. The police are outside our house.

.

This makes you quickly get up. Mom then goes over to Miley and does the same thing while Autumn looks over the bedroom window. She sees that there are over two dozen men dressed in black tactical gear outside in the backyard. She also sees a couple of men dressed in white. Like if the two men were researchers of some kind.

.

Autumn: You think they're here for one of the workers?

Mom: I don't know, but they're telling us to come outside.

Miley: Won't they be surprised when they realize they went to the wrong house.

.

You quickly get dressed in the closet before you follow your mother and sisters down the stairs. You have a light jacket on since you know it tends to get a little chilly at night.

Bright lights coming from the armored trucks blur your vision for a couple of seconds the moment you walk out of the house.

.

Y/n: What's going on?

.

The men in tactical gear then separate you from the family. A couple of them lead you into the back of one of the armored trucks, while some of them place your family in another. Before the two men lead you inside, you look over at your family and see your mother. She looks over at you and she gives you a reassuring smile, silently telling you that it'll be okay.

The men place you in the armored truck before they get in as well and shut the doors behind them. You sit down on the bench to the left while the two men sit on the bench to the right. There's already a man sitting at the end of it and so now there's three men in this vehicle with you. All of them holding large guns. These guys look intimidating.

There's no window or anything for you to see what's happening outside. You did hear a rumor that one of Dad's workers is dealing drugs, but you don't know if that's true or not. Maybe that's why they're here.

Though you're not hand-cuffed or anything, you place your hands close together in your jacket pockets. You're so nervous and worried about your family, but you know that none of them have done anything illegal.

The ride to wherever is silent. The atmosphere here is really uncomfortable as you don't know what to say. Plus, these guys are just staring at you as if they're keeping watch over something. You can't see their faces since they're wearing black helmets and masks on. But when you look at their eyes, you know they're staring right back at you.

The police station thankfully isn't too far from here, but still. For now, all you can do is look down at the floor and wait.

.

.

.

Minutes go by. You don't know how many minutes exactly since you realize you left your phone and purse back in the house. But you're beginning to suspect that these guys aren't taking you and your family to the police station. Maybe you should ask where they're taking you. I mean, you're going to find out anyway when you get there but, it's too silent and uncomfortable in here.

So you lift your head and face the three men in front of you, who are still watching you as they keep hold of their guns.

.

Y/n: Where are you taking me?

.

Not a word comes from any of them. Maybe you shouldn't have asked. You'll just have to find out when you get-

.

Man 1: What's your name?

.

You look up again. Surprised that at least one of them is speaking to you.

.

Y/n: My name is Y/n.

Man: 2: Where are you from?

Y/n: Here but, if you're talking about where I was born, I don't know.

.

The air grows silent again. They haven't answered your question about where they're taking you. This is all a huge misunderstanding. If they're looking for the guy selling drugs, they definitely have the wrong address and the wrong family. You feel like you have to make this clear to the detectives when they these guys you into the interrogation room.

.

Y/n: Do you know what time is it?

Man 3:... It's a quarter past three.

Y/n: Thank you.

.

It's over three in the middle of the night?! Maybe you should take a nap in the interrogation room before you answer questions. You don't want to stay up all night answering questions just cause these guys got the wrong person.

Then the truck finally stops. The man close to the door opens it and the rest of them get out first before one of them tells you to exit the vehicle. You follow their orders and exit the truck, but as soon as you step outside, you see dozens of men in tactical gear lined up on both sides. Most of them have large guns, but a few are carrying a weird kind of gun that you have never seen before. It doesn't look like it fires regular bullets, but it looks like the end of what you see on a fire extinguisher.

Two men are walking behind you while two are taking the lead in front. All you can do right now is follow them and obey their orders until you clear you and your family.

The four-story building looks modern. It doesn't look like a hospital or something relating to office buildings around your town. If anything, this reminds you of a mental institution.

Once you're inside, the two men leading the way stop in front of a woman wearing a long white coat. The woman looks like she's in her mid-forties. She has short black hair and Latino ethnicity and looks more like a doctor than a detective. She sees you and instructs the men to take you to a specific room on the fourth floor.

They obey the orders and they lead you up the stairs and finally towards one of the rooms on the fourth floor. There, another woman is wearing a long white coat, and she stands in front of one of the doors.

.

Woman: Have a step inside, and we'll be with you when we're ready.

.

As she says this, one of the men opens the door for you. Wanting to be on their good side, you just listen and walk right into the room. The man closes and the woman in the lab coat locks it. You heard it, and as much as you wanted to ask why, you know they will apologize once everything's all cleared up.

The room has a hospital bed, a desk with a small black office chair, a nightstand, and a security camera in the corner of the room. There's no TV, but at least there's a window. You head over to the window and see the armored trucks still outside, along with some men in tactical gear in their positions. It almost seems like they're guarding the entire building.

It's still pretty late, and you honestly just wanna get some sleep instead of passing out in the integration room. Plus, you're pretty sure they wouldn't mind you sleeping here. If they didn't, they obviously wouldn't put you in a room where there's a bed for you to lie on. And it's still the middle of the night.

You remove your shoes and head to bed. For some reason, there isn't a light switch anywhere in the room to turn off the lights. Guess you'll just have to sleep with the lights on. Maybe putting the blanket over your head will help.

You make yourself comfortable and when you pull the blanket up, the lights in the room dim a bit. Not too much, but at least enough that you don't to place the blanket over your head to fall asleep.

.

.

.

...Meanwhile...

.

.

.

There are three people in lab coats watching over the young woman sleeping from the security camera in the corner of the room. They purposely turned the lights down to ensure that the woman was in a calm state, without any sleeping gas or tranquilizers.

Two of them are women and there's one man. They keep a close eye on the young woman sleeping while they talk.

.

Woman 1: So what time would you like to enter the room? We can get a couple of guys to come in there with you in case things go south.

Woman 2: That will not be needed. We need all guards in their positions in case something does happen.

Man: May I recommend we go with the sleeping gas when she wakes up? Not a lot. But enough to help her relax.

Woman 2: She's already in a relaxed state, but she's still confused as to why she's here. I plan to have a conversation with her without any substances in her system. That way, we will have genuine results and figure out if we need them at a later date.

Woman 1: One of the men told me that they asked for her name. It's supposedly Y/n. When they asked where she was from, she told them that she didn't know where she was born.

Man: We have the entire town in lockdown. No one goes in, no one comes out. Not until we have everything we need before the transfer.

Woman 2: Excellent. Testing will begin in the morning after she eats. I will enter the room myself and give her a physical exam. I will also ask questions I have here in my chart as well. You two are responsible for staying here, and if things don't go well, press the button to lock all the doors in the building. Only our teams will have access to enter throughout the building.

Man: Yes ma'am.

Woman 1: What meal should we give her?

Man: It wouldn't be coal, would it?

Woman 2: No. Our agent saw our subject eating normal food at the rodeo. We'll give her a variety to choose from and take notes on her diet.

.

An intern then comes in with coffee and snacks for them. They plan on taking shifts to watch the young woman sleep for the entire night. They need to make sure nothing happens on their watch. And if anything does happen, they have to document it and report it to the site.
