Chapter 22 - Pest

"It's been great showing you guys around. Hope to do it again soon."

After a long day, the group decided it was time to rest as they went ahead accompanied Melissa back and got AllMight from David shield. 

They had been engrossed from chatting that it had already sundown when they finished. AllMight learns more about dating and being a father while his friend laughs at the whole ordeal. 

He never expected that his old friend would finally have someone and settle down. This causes him to smile and be proud that he is becoming less selfless and be selfish for once. 

AllMight had lived a life of selflessness and now it was time for him to be selfish. Like someone in another timeline, an old veteran is finally getting his dance. 

"Yeah, we'll have more fun for the next 2 months! Maybe share some ideas in tech!" 

"Just ask and I'll happily teach you how to use a guitar." (Jiro)

"Of course! We would love to hang out with you." (Momo)

"Glad you all had a fine! Tomorrow please head to xxx xxx building where you can start your training. Melissa can guide you guys there."

"Great! We will surely do that! See you tomorrow, Melissa-san, David-Dono."

"Also, regarding the research, if you don't mind, can you come to our facility first to help discuss the mutated spider?"

"Oh right, Sure thing!"

Moments later, they waved their goodbye as All Night helped them head to their hotel to rest while Melissa's gaze was in deep turmoil that his father notice rather quickly.

He vaguely understood that his daughter wanted to explore and experience the outside world. David patted his daughter's head, easing her mind. 

"Whatever you do, you'd be great."

Melissa turns to see her father's reassuring smile. Something inside her heart was reignited, the passion of being a hero.   

"If you doubt being an inventor like me then don't hesitate to pursue what your heart wants and I'll support you till the end."

She felt her heart pounding, feeling the burning passion that long dwindled. Melissa heard stories from Izuku's past until eventually gained a quirk. Melissa was inspired to try and decide on something.

"It's not that I don't want to be an inventor but after hearing Izuku words perhaps I could try being both."

Izuku was a different breed being a living prodigy in martial arts and super genius before getting a quirk. It was unbelievable his quirkless.

Regardless, Melissa wished to still be an inventor while being a hero. It would be difficult to be both but not impossible. 

David smiled at the development only hoping that she would spread her wings and live freely.

Melissa arrived at her room to take a rest, she lay on her bed recalling everything that had happened with a smile on her face. It has been a while since she felt genuinely happy.

Izuku had mainly stuck in her mind constantly replaying the moment of his speech about heroism. She could see the resemblance of her uncle to the speedster.

Her mind was too occupied to not notice a spider crawl its way into her hands before being bitten into her flesh. This brought Melissa back to reality and unconsciously smacked the spider.

"Ow! A spider?"

Melissa saw the spider that instantly died before feeling a sudden headache and numbness course through her body. It didn't take long for her to pass out and rapidly have her body rearranged.

The genetic structure of her body was being deconstructed and reconstructed.  She felt her body burning to breathe restlessly and fortunately, it happened when she was in her bed.

The next day, Melissa woke up covered in sweat having a severe headache trying to recall what had happened to her the other night. She then turned to look at the time and found that it was the time where the others would meet at training grounds.

Melissa quickly took her glasses only to be shocked that her vision was blurry when she tried them on.

'What's going on? Why can I see better without my glasses?? Wait! Izuku mentioned a spider with a quirk that he and papa have been working on!?'

Her mind is at an all time high trying to figure things out. It was already amazing that she wasn't having a panic attack.

'Is it possible to transfer a quirk from another!? Or even make an artificial quirk?

She is smart enough to understand her situation and calmly analyze everything. It was the most logical answer seeing how dramatic her changes are. 

Melissa's senses are disoriented at how highly enhanced they were. She could hear her own heartbeat while her eyesight could precisely see tiny details.

However, the young inventor felt both joy that she had acquired a quirk but also anxiety as it could still have risk. An artificial creation of quirk is highly dangerous as it may cause some complications.

Unlike quirk which comes naturally and lets the person adapt at a young age that would develop through their life. Essentially, the artificial quirk is a disease that the body would reject.

'I need to tell Papa about this!'

She quickly went ahead freshen herself up and as the blonde girl about to grab the faucet was instantly broken like a stick spraying water into her causing her to move frail hers hand.

This led to her palm sticking into the curtains of the bathtub and stumbling into it. Melissa having difficulty adjusting to the new sensation.

While she was struggling, early before she woke up, Izuku visited the research facility to assist in the development of mutated spiders. The laboratory only had Izuku and David analyzing the spider on display.

"This is the mutated spider that has been completed using your old formula."

Izuku examines each spider containing a mixture of different spider species then produces a new species that contains quirks genes that came from people. It assimilates to the spiders having their natural ability enhanced by several folds 

"We only manage to create 12 spiders that successfully contain the genome of electric quirk and camouflage quirk."

"Is that so? I didn't expect that a fusion of  an Emitter and Transformation quirk type along with placing them on an animal is evolutionary."

There are three types of quirk in the world, Emitter, Mutant and Transformation. A record of having two types is yet to be seen in the world. 

To put it simply, Emitters are a type of quirks that alter and emit certain things in the world while transformation is a temporary change in someone's body and Mutant is the opposite of being a permanent change.

"I do hope you receive the additional information that I've developed recently. "

"I did, I have to say we might be able to create a machine that could heal Toshinori." 

The two both feel that the symbol of peace could be safe and given a chance to live normal lives. 

They made sure that two were the only ones present at the lab. Izuku notices one of the spider cages doesn't contain a spider. This causes the speedster to grow pale from the revelation.

"Wait, Mr.Shield! Look, I think one of them escaped!!"

"Did I hear you correctly!? Oh no! This is not good! I'll try to contact the securities to be on the lookout."

"I'll also do the same. It won't take a minute so long the pest resides in the public areas."

They both grew worried as the spider could either have died or had started biting people. Moments later, Izuku used his super-speed to find the spider spending the whole remaining time scouring the whole I-Island, and found nothing. 

'Where the hell did that pest go?'

Izuku became increasingly worried about the fact that it might have gotten to the people's room but let David handle it.

In the end, he gave up for the time being and started to head back to his hotel to visit Itsuka. 

"Itsu-chan! Are you ready?"

"I told you not to call me that!"

Itsuka came out of her room freshened up wearing simple clothes. The speedster opted for a teasing smile.

"Morning, sunshine! You look great today."

This causes her to blush from his flirtation. Izuku had gotten used to teasing her after becoming a couple along with the other girls. He's better when it comes to smooth-talking with women. 

"You too, let's get the others before heading out."

"That's the plan!"
