Chapter 6 Egg heist

Waking up from my slumber with the worst hungover I ever had, I want to go back to sleep but I'm way too hungry and thirsty for it. The fight I had last night was a vague memory, I would have called it a dream if not for my aching side. The wound was quite bad and I could only hope it doesn't get infected.

If I remember correctly there should be a chicken sitting on its eggs just above me. The hole I made for myself was quite small, so I make more room just enough to fit four or five of myself. After that was done I parted the straws upward making sure it was perfectly vertical, few minutes later and I made a break through. The hen was still sitting and directly under it now, I saw an egg just to the side of the hole I make and slowly roll it towards the hole. Taking care not to alert the hen I did my best attempt at a stealth mission.

The hole was too small so I made the entrance a bit larger. The egg was bigger than me so it was still a tight fit in the hole, slowly I push it down taking the extra effort to close the hole. Well over and hour had pass and I finally reach the widen area I was sleeping on.

Now it was just me and the egg. I nibbled at the top part of the egg, careful to not crack it and spill it's contents. The egg was fresh and it smelled good to my rat nose. I've eaten my fair share of raw egg as a human but none come close to what I'm currently eating. Maybe it was because of my rat taste or my starvation/dehydration or the egg of this world are higher quality. I couldn't tell and I wasn't complaining.

It took me at nearly two or three days to finish the egg. I could fit inside the egg so it wasn't much of a surprise. I looked at my stats and see the [Evolution point: 4] I was immensely pleased.

Immediately I scrolled through the menu and found the one I needed. It was a sub evolution that would extract more evo points form food. Along with that I took the growth, which now cost two evo points, and started my sub evolution.

I didn't take long for my evolution to be complete.

Not the most impressive but I'll take it. Also I should reach adulthood but the next growth so I'm interested in what change that would bring. Surprisingly the wound on my side is gone, not even a scar remained. Was it the growth or the sub evolution itself? I do not know.

Doesn't matter I'm back and stronger than before. I'm also a bit bigger, at first I could fit in the egg but now I don't. Around ten percent bigger I guess. With my evolution done I started digging up the straws again, there was alot to be done.

I poke my head up and I see the eggs, this time I didn't take any and just make a mental note of there location. I close the hole I make and went back down, with my impeccable memory I started marking the location of the egg on my roof. The marks were directly beneath the egg or should be close. I had to expend my room quite alot, instead of just clearing out the area I made tunnels, so the roof doesn't collapse on me.

I place the egg shell I had emptied directly below the mark, covering the base of the egg so it doesn't move around. I carefully climb over it and directly into the mark. When I reach the egg instead of directly stealing it I used my fangs to make a small hole into it. I rushed down the hole into the room and the egg was pouring slowly into the egg shell I placed earlier.

All according to plan, the first egg I eat, I was careful not to crack it. The opening was only a small hole enough to fit my head, it was so I could use it a a bucket later. Now I don't need to steal any more eggs I just need to make a tunnel connecting the egg to the room, make a small hole on the egg and let the contents flow into the egg shell I already have. Not only do does it save me a lot of time, the empty egg shell is still left up above and you won't know it is empty unless you actually lift it up. The perfect crime, the world is so not ready for my rat ingenuity.

What felt like a week had passed and I had eaten seven eggs. This week I had thought about my life here a lot. Mostly about the fight with the cat, wasn't much of a fight but we were both injured. What really had my curiosity was the fact that the cat should be more than two or three years old, yet it didn't use a single skill or ability. That fight was the greatest fight I had been apart of but it was a not a magical one just a normal cat and rat fight. Maybe it didn't have a skill it could use in that particular situation but for a cat in a farm to not have any it could use to hunt a rat was a bit of a stretch to me. I'm most likely wrong but if I'm right than you don't just get to use your skills and abilities there is a requirement, and just living for a few years and killing rats, I'm assuming that the cat had kill rats before, is not enough to unlock mana. You eat to evolve and most likely you kill to level up but there is something you need to do to get mana and I had no idea what it is. Those are problem for later, now there is one way of getting stronger that I know off and that's eating, so we eat.

Nine eggs were laid and only two more to go, but I was not in a hurry. I held off my evolution for the extra points and I was currently sleeping on my back.

A slight tremor shook the ground and it got more and more intense. I licked some of the straws that got egg spilled over it, I was intent to on waste a drop. The tremor stopped, I could hear the hen clucking. After a few moments the roof was torn open and I could see a human holding the hen on one hand and my roof on the other, I could tell it was also seeing me.

The human screem and I hightail out. Too bad I couldn't finish the eggs, I ran towards the rat cave.
