Chapter 10 - Hard Brawl

Both sides caught and retrieved their Bakugan. Volt looked at Siren with seriousness, taking a calm breath. They needed to be more careful as the battle continued. This Hydranoid evolution was different from most Bakugan he had seen. It was dangerous.

Siren, on the other hand, was momentarily surprised when she retrieved James. His ball form was glowing with a yellow light. James' satisfied voice was heard:

"Mm... I feel warm inside. Like I just had a good meal."

James' satisfaction confused Siren. He was glowing yellow for the first time. Naturally, she wanted to make sure he was okay:

"Are you alright, James?"

"I'm great," James answered confidently. "And I think I've gained an interesting ability."

He could sense the features of a few new abilities in his mind. Yes, Bakugan were born knowing their abilities. They could develop and awaken different abilities through training, but all abilities were already ingrained in their genes.

This included their knowledge and usage. At least, that was James' understanding of his own body.

Of course, he didn't expect the current result, but it was a very satisfying development.

Siren was surprised by what James said but then smiled. "Alright... Let's see what kind of surprise you have."

Meanwhile, Volt crossed his arms and felt uneasy. Should he use his trap Bakugan, Dynamo? Should he not? In a battle against the Resistance, he wouldn't hesitate, but this...

This... was fun. It was like the underground fights he used to have. This mysterious girl named Siren and her Bakugan had skills and tactics that challenged them. Unconsciously, he was smiling.

The Bakugan were thrown in succession. When James appeared, he clenched his claws into fists and took a stance. His body was washed in purple light, and his stats increased by two hundred points once again. Meanwhile, Brontes, as always, let out a mocking laugh and said:

"Yes, now you'll be taken down, reptile. Ha ha ha~!"

James provocatively gestured with his middle and index fingers for him to come. Volt quickly placed the ability card into play.

"Ability activate: Darkus Howl Trigger!"

Brontes opened his hands, and purple rings rushed toward James at a sinister speed. James tried to evade by flapping his wings, but a few hit him, pushing him back in the air.

As Brontes continued his attacks, Siren's sharp voice was heard:

"Don't rush! Ability activate: Light Eater!"

When the ability card was used, James' mouth opened slightly, and silence reigned for a moment. Then, the surroundings suddenly darkened. Purple particles quickly surrounded them, and a notification sound was heard, almost tearing through the silence.

The purple particles surrounding them gathered in James' mouth, and a violent purple beam shot toward Brontes. Brontes dodged nimbly, countering with more purple rings aimed at James.

However, James dodged them all this time. As the clash of beams and rings ensued, Volt's stern voice rang out:

"Ability activate: Maniactus Magical!"

At that moment, the purple rings that James was blocking and countering changed color to white. The sinister aura was replaced by an unexpected purity, and James took hit after hit, almost immediately reverting to ball form with the notification.

Siren looked at Volt's face, which was a mix of a grin and disappointment. Volt's expectant voice was heard:

"Let's see what else you have, stranger?"

He and his Bakugan truly deserved the title of Light Demon. As the shock Siren and James experienced slowly faded, a surprising smile appeared on Siren's lips.

James felt the situation getting more difficult. With fifty LP left, they couldn't afford to lose the next round, which made him feel on edge. He was about to say something when suddenly...

A chuckle was heard:

"Ha ha ha ha! Exciting! This is it! This is it! Just as expected from a Vexos!"

Siren was jumping in place, seemingly lost in the excitement of the battle. No one had easily challenged her in tournament battles, and she was feeling the long-missed challenge in her bones.

How could she not be happy and excited? While she laughed with such excitement, surprising both her opponent and her partner, she was also thinking.

'His abilities are very annoying. If I don't time it perfectly, we'll lose.'

James' abilities, without the sudden stat boost, were weak compared to the opponent. She needed to use them well, and the card she couldn't use in the last round... it was the only thing that could change the course of events.

As bright yellow waves formed on the ground, Siren grabbed Brontes and threw him:

"Let's give them a defeat they won't forget, Brontes!"

Brontes hit the ground, opened up, and appeared, laughing:

"Now you're speaking my language, partner! Ha ha ha ha!"

Siren took a good stance before throwing James, jumping and spinning as she threw! James spun quickly, hitting Brontes' body and flying back. Siren shouted:

"Now, James! Get up!"

With that, James quickly opened up, flapping his wings in the air. There was a good distance between them. Once again, a boost washed over James' body as he quickly launched himself toward Brontes!

As their hands clasped together, they engaged in a power struggle! Despite their equal stats, James seemed to be struggling a bit. Without using an ability, Brontes immediately activated one:

"Ability activate: Desert Python!"

Brontes' cross-shaped eyes glowed, kicking James back once again, and fired a bright, powerful light ring at him!

James flew to dodge it. At least he thought he did, but when he saw the golden ring following him, he was surprised. He flew quickly to evade, but it followed him. He grumbled:

"What the heck is this!?"

The ring followed him like a homing missile as he tried to escape. No matter how much he flew around, it wouldn't leave him. The sand grains around him scattered, and his wings raised dust with each step!

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA STOP FOLLOWING ME! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Volt explained while looking at Siren, "The ability will keep following the target until it hits. You're wasting your effort."

As Volt questioned Siren's behavior, Siren calmly placed the double ability card. At that moment, the two red stripes on her mask glowed.

"Ability activate: Umbra!"

As soon as this ability was activated, the glow on the pizza slices on James' chest faded. A crescent shape glowed on his chest as his body was enveloped in purple light. His escape sped up, and a notification was heard:

Volt didn't understand her intent when he looked at her. When he focused on his glove and saw no regular decrease or similar effect on Brontes' G-Power, he narrowed his eyes.

Seeing no activity, he got angry:

"It's time to end this nonsense! Finish it, Brontes! Gate Card open: Haos Reactor!"

As Brontes' body glowed with golden light, he laughed.

"Let me end your pain, you poor thing."

As rings much weaker than the ones following James but far more numerous emerged from Brontes' hands, James found himself in the middle of a double-sided attack! His shadow was faint as the light surrounded him, and his defeat seemed imminent.

Just as James closed his eyes...

Everything was covered in a cloud of dust and sand with the impact. Vision was temporarily lost. Frowning because he didn't hear the expected notification, Volt saw a glow from Siren's glove through the dust and sand cloud.

For a while, he had seen ability cards glowing with Darkus or white light. But now, it was glowing yellow!

When the dust and sand cleared, James' purple patterns had turned gold, and his horn pierced through the sand cloud with a golden light. Taking advantage of Brontes' shock, he flew upward quickly, and Siren explained with a smile to the confused Volt:

"Unfair Light returns the opponent's G-Power to its pre-battle state and changes James' attribute. Thanks for giving me the chance to use this, fool!"

Sticking out her tongue, James quickly dove down. Taking advantage of Volt and Brontes' shock, James opened his mouth, and Siren's voice was heard once again:

"Finish him, James! Light Eater!"

Unlike before, this time the Light Eater gathered golden particles, sending a beam at Brontes with unexpected speed, and directly defeated him!

Although it takes a long time to describe, it all happened in the blink of an eye. Brontes, in disbelief, shouted, "This is impossible!" as he reverted to ball form and fell in front of Volt. Pure shock was visible in Volt's eyes.

Winner: Siren.

James roared in victory, reverting to ball form and returning to Siren. Volt, stunned by the shock waves of the battle, stepped back a few steps but hadn't taken a severe enough hit to fall.

As everything returned to normal, Siren walked toward Volt. She picked up Brontes and handed him to him. With a kind smile, she said, "I think we can talk a bit now, can't we?"
