Family Day

As a few hours passed by, Red and his family happily went to the nearest park.

With the doctor's guidance, Jayce was able to safely leave the hospital for a while.

However, Jayce's doctor told them that they could only go out for a couple of hours. He also advised them to be careful and not do any strenuous activities that may tire Jayce out.

Eniah and Jakob made sure to follow the doctor's advice as they strolled around the park.

Walking hand-in-hand, Jayce and Red walked at a moderate speed. They were in front of Eniah and Jakob, who were in the back, making sure that the two of them were following the doctor's advice well.

"Brother! Can I buy an Ice cream?" Jayce excitedly muttered as he saw an ice cream stand in the distance.

Unsure of what to answer, Red looked back, asking his parents if it was fine. It reminded him of when he was still a kid, always asking permission from his parents.

"Just a scoop, Jayce," Eniah answered.

Jayce happily nodded his head. Just that much was already enough for him. He just wanted to taste it again after not eating it for years.

Hearing the answer from their mother, Jayce lead the way towards the ice cream stand. He pulled Red, who was chuckling as he watched Jayce's excited movements.

"Jayce! Stop running!" Eniah's eyes widened after seeing their fast-paced movements. Her heart beat out loud as she ran after them.

"I'm not running, Mother. I'm fast walking!" Jayce countered. He made a face and slowed down his walk.

"Y-Y—"

Red chuckled, cutting off his mother's words. "Let him be, Mother. It's his first time walking that fast. The ice cream stall is not that far away too," he assured Eniah.

'I am overreacting.'Eniah sighed and nodded. She let her sons do what they wanted after even though she was still worried about Jayce's sudden actions.

She was worried that he'd soon get tired after being energetic since waking up.

"Brother, I want the chocolate."

"2 chocolate ice cream, Sir."

Red smiled at the vendor as he said what Jayce wanted.

When the vendor heard it, he immediately scooped some ice cream and placed it in a paper cup before handing it to Red.

"Here, Jayce. " Red handed once of the ice cream cup to Jayce after paying.

"Ice cream!" Jayce happily exclaimed, just like a little kid. He raised his arms and reached for the cone that lied in front of him.

Jayce's smile reached his ears. His eyes sparkled while his heart warmed, even though the ice cream that he had was cold.

The familiar feeling of coldness and sweetness made Jayce super happy.

Red chuckled after seeing Jayce's reaction. It was his first time seeing Jayce this happy after a few months.

He realized that Jayce must have been feeling so lonely and bored in the hospital room, that a simple walk in the park could make him this happy.

"Let's take a seat first and eat these packed meals we made," Jakob instructed as they crossed an empty bench after walking away from the ice cream stall.

Jakob knew that ice cream wouldn't be enough to satisfy their hunger.

Jayce nodded. "Okay, Dad!" he enthusiastically answered.

As they sat on the wooden bench, Eniah took out their packed lunch from her eco bag. Thinking of spending some quality time together, they all contributed to packing their lunch for the day.

Their packed lunch was full of healthy things. Besides the sandwich, they packed steamed vegetables and fresh fruits.

"Brother, let's go to the swing later!" Jayce looked at Red, his eyes sparkling.

Jayce just took a seat and yet he wanted to stand up and play more already.

Red chuckled and nodded. "If that's what you want, then we'll follow that."

Red, looking at his younger brother's expression as he ate, couldn't help but get teary-eyed.

As he glanced at his parents, he noticed that they were also looking at Jayce. His parents were barely eating.

Red laid comfortably on the back of the bench. As he took a bite of the sandwich, he raised his head up, looking at the clear sky.

It was fortunate that the sky was clear. It wasn't also very sunny as if giving them the chance to spend some time as a family.

Red thanked the heavens for it. At least after a while, they were able to create good memories, and not just ugly ones.

Red looked around, observing the whole area. He noticed that the whole park was divided into 3 sides.

The side that they're in, consisted mostly of free space where people could freely walk around. There were a lot of benches scattered around, for people to sit on and eat. It was also the only area where food and drinks were being sold.

Besides that, their area had the most trees, making it dimmer compared to the rest.

On the left side, there was a flower garden with a picnic groove. As it was still afternoon, and the sun was still glaring at the ground, there were only a few people on that side.

"I love the air here," Red couldn't help but point out as he closed his eyes, inhaling the fresh air.

It was rare for him to inhale such nice air, as being in the city meant air pollution everywhere.

"The playground is also nice," Red uttered as he glanced over at the right side, where a huge playground was located.

"I know right, Brother! After eating, I'll immediately go there!" Jayce excitedly agreed with Red's words. It has been so long since he saw a playground.

Red flashed a smile and nodded. Jayce must have been jealous when he saw that there were a lot of kids playing around in the area.

"Finish your food first, Jayce." Eniah reminded him first.

"Yes, Mom," Jayce nodded and smiled, already knowing about it.

"Mother if I'll be allowed to go out, let's go here again," Jayce exclaimed which made all of them laugh out loud.

"Sure, then. Anything for you, darling." Eniah softly patted Jayce's head.

Hearing the answer, Jayce couldn't help but smile. He wished that time would soon come.
